  1. Garrett Cooper in RF today. That's an interesting development. But Tyrone Taylor in center better be prepared to run today between Roache and Cooper.
  2. Manatees are 20 minutes late and counting in starting the game. No rain in Daytona. Apparently, you can't listen to the radio feed until the game starts this year. That's unfortunate. You could get information from the pregame material last year. Not sure what the hold up is. I'm checking out. Will check it later or in the morning.
  3. Chris Carter: .784 OPS last year: .764 lifetime Adam Lind: .820/.797 Jason Rogers: .808/.786 Can we stop please. This move was not made in isolation. It was necessitated by the trades of Lind and Rogers, which is NOT an upgrade. I guess everybody values the arms Stearns got in these trades more than I do. None of them seem to be game changers. All are years away if they ever make it which is doubtful. Lind and/or Rogers could just as easily been flipped during the year as Carter. I would say more so. Generally, I look at the moves Stearns has made and I have to wonder where he is coming from. How are the Brewers going to compete at all during the Arcia/Phillips era? It looks like they will have black holes at 1B, 3B and C if Lucroy goes. He's even flipped prospects like Cy Sneed for Major League utility guys which is a real head scratcher to me. As well as getting rid of Rogers to bring in an older player. I just don't see how the Brewers are going to be competitive.
  4. Obviously, the Pirates disagree with your assessment. They could have had Carter without giving up anything.
  5. Tanking worked in Houston It did? 6 straight losing seasons, 3 with 100+ losses netted them one 86 win season so far.
  6. Broxton is not much. .273/.357/.438 at age 25. Logan Schafer did .278/.332/.438 at age 26. They could have just kept Schafer for nothing. This all rides on Supak and as John Briggs points out, he hasn't done much yet. Hopefully, they can make something out of him but at some point, all these guys do is take away innings from better prospects. At best, Broxton will play one year until Phillips is ready. Supak is years away. In the meantime, the Pirates are contending for another playoff run. I understand the need to rebuild but I'm afraid Stearns will be creating black holes at 1B and C that could go years as problem areas. Rogers could have been a partial answer for a few years.
  7. You really have to wonder about Frazier outside of GAB: Home: .278 avg, .550 slg, .883 ops Away: .233 avg, .448 slg, .733 ops Is he just a product of Cincinnati? Especially a factor in New Comiskey, which I don't think is a hitter's park.
  8. Human interest story of a Cub who was beaned on the first pitch of his first Major League at bat: link
  9. The Nationals were never going to re-sign him. They think it's too much of an injury risk for the money. Therefore, they're not getting even, they're getting taken again.
  10. QT--Whitewater still going strong. Deer--take your foot off the brake if you have to hit it. Braking lowers the front end making it more likely the deer will be thrown up into the windshield.
  11. Be nice if Dominic Ficociello were the PTBNL. He had a pretty good year at Lakeland last year, plays 1B and has played some 3B. That would fit the Brewers' needs.
  12. Shawn Zarraga was catching for the Netherlands? Also, Henry Statia playing for them. There's a Brewer connection for you.
  13. Washington Post doesn't like it from the Braves' standpoint: So the gold, for the Braves, must lie in the pitching prospects. And the concern about Newcomb is obvious: In 150-1/3 professional innings, he has 82 walks. (Even in college, at the University of Hartford, he walked 75 in 165 innings.) One scout’s evaluation: “Newcomb will always be a high-pitch-count starter who will end up in the pen because he doesn’t throw quality strikes even though he can touch 96 [mph] and he’s left-handed.” This, then, would not be the kind of player for which you part with Andrelton Simmons. Disclaimer: Braves are in the Nationals' division link to whole article
  14. Via The Brewer Nation twitter feed:
  15. Mike Maddux to take reins as Nats’ pitching coach Maybe this will offset the Dusty Baker effect?
  16. Bobby Jo from Petticoat Junction Even I don't remember this one too well. For the record though, I think she was the middle sister with black hair.
  17. I'm guessing that while it's harder to win in Miwaukee, it is also harder to get fired versus Boston, New York, LA, etc. A GM can stay here a long time if he is remotely competent (see Doug Melvin). That has to be a plus factor.
  18. I think he hit Tejada before the ground. That isn't a clean slide in my opinion. So you think Tejada should just concede the base? No. I would expect the Brewers runner to take out the baseman in a clean manner by sliding into his feet not doing a football type block.
  19. My opinion on Utley: That "slide" should never happen in baseball. There is a right and wrong way to do things. I will take Utley at his word that he did not deliberately set out to injure anyone but that was a football type tackle you might expect against Ron Dayne because the safety is too small to bring him down any other way. Should have been ruled interference since Utley was not attempting to make 2nd base and the "slide" was ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned, Dodgers are now evil like the Cubs and Cardinals. I hate to be put in the position of rooting for a New York team but there is no other option now.
  20. Chase Utley slide: Story Slide was very late and broke Tejada's leg. To add insult to injury, the umpires reviewed a play that is not supposed to be reviewable (neighborhood play) and called Utley safe as well. This turned the game for the Dodgers. Opinions?
  21. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Brett Phillips 3. Trent Clark 4. Zach Davies 5. Monte Harrison 6. Jorge Lopez 7. Gilbert Lara 8. Josh Hader 9. Kodi Medeiros 10. Tyrone Taylor 11. Devin Williams 12. Cody Ponce 13. Michael Reed 14. Adrian Houser 15. Yadiel Rivera 16. Marcos Diplan 17. Demi Orimoloye 18. Tyler Wagner 19. Cy Sneed 20. Clint Coulter 21. Jorge Ortega 22. Tyler Cravy 23. Jake Gatewood 24. Joantgel Segovia 25. Yhonathan Barrios Left out Kirby and Taylor Williams due to injury question mark.
  22. Matt Williams fired Along with the entire coaching staff. This is the other shoe. He came in as a disciplinarian and didn't even know about the fight somehow. Look for them to try to bring in Cal as the manager. Maybe they should just make Pap the player/coach?
  23. I would like to see them use Wagner/Lopez as a 6th starter and just let one of the real starters get some rest on the DL for a stint. That is, Wagner/Lopez pitch in AAA and come up when one of the starters is being rested. You rotate the starters through the DL to accomplish this. The Red Sox did this while winning a World Series and I wish the Brewers had in '14 because their staff seemed to wear down at the end.
  24. Arsenal and Chelsea go down today. Saw the end of the Roma game. Gervinho was going through Bate like a cheetah through a herd of buffalo but they still lost somehow.
  25. Log Lady Passes Probably most of you don't get this. Twin Peaks character if you're old enough.
