Braun is at 125 OPS+ versus 90 for Sandoval. Braun is at 2.8 WAR versus -0.3 for Sandoval. Baseball wise it's probably a bad deal for the Brewers but it would free up some money and provide a position of need. I wonder if Sandoval has no trade clauses though. He probably wouldn't want to come to the Brewers.

Lakeland scores late to beat Manatees, 1-0 August 23, 2015 3:52 PM MST http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/f7/86/f7867c97dc056205c54dddd0d43d9c2f.jpg?itok=FaRCfRaY Jorge Ortega was the tough-luck loser Sunday, despite throwing a complete game. Lakeland scored a run in the eighth inning and hung on to win, 1-0. Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography (used with permission) After taking two of three games in Clearwater, the Brevard County Manatees continued their road trip in Lakeland, opening a three-game series on Sunday. The teams traded zeros for seven innings, before Lakeland scored a run in the eighth and hung on to win, 1-0. Manatees’ starter Jorge Ortega (9-9) suffered the loss, despite throwing his sixth complete game of the season. Ortega allowed eight hits, struck out one and walked one. He worked out of a couple jams along the way, including the third inning, where he got some help from his defense. The inning started with back-to-back singles by Jared Reaves and Tim Remes. Tyler Hanover laid down a bunt, but Ortega pounced on it and threw to third, getting the lead runner. Ismael Salgado followed with a single to left that Jose Pena fielded. He threw a strike to catcher Dustin Houle, who put the tag on Remes. Trent Szkutnik got the start for the Flying Tigers and pitched five shutout innings. He allowed four hits, two of those coming in the first inning. He walked one and struck out one. Gage Smith (1-0) took over in the sixth and earned the win, allowing two hits in four innings of work. Ortega gave up the only run of the day in that decisive eighth inning. Reaves led off with a single and was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Remes. Hanover’s line drive single to center, plated Reaves, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Brevard County (24-31, 53-71 overall) went down swinging in the ninth, with a two out rally. Garrett Cooper was hit by a pitch and went to second on a Houle single. Pena came up with a chance to tie, but he hit a weak grounder back to Smith on the mound, who threw to first, ending the game. Houle had the only multi-hit game for the Manatees, going 2-for-4. Salgado went 2-for-4 for Lakeland and Reaves was 2-for-3 and scored the game winning run. Lakeland moved to 48-74 on the season. Game notes: Taylor Brennan, who missed the last handful of games for the Manatees was back in the lineup Sunday and went 0-for-4. The reason for his recent absence has not been released. Omar Garcia was not in the Manatees lineup on Sunday. The series continues Monday night at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. Brandon Woodruff (3-5, 3.75 ERA will pitch for the Manatees, against Lakeland hurler Kevin Ziomek (7-10, 3.70 ERA). First pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Jorge Ortega: 8 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 6/11 GO/FO It remains to be seen how well all those fly outs will play in the upper levels. Dustin Houle 2 hits, Michael Ratterree with the only extra base hit for the Manatees, a double. Brevard County Game Log

As frustrating as the Manatees' offense has been (they are 9th out of 12 teams in runs scored), the pitching has been worse overall (11th worst of 12 in runs allowed).

Another complete game for Jorge Ortega but takes 1-0 loss. ERA down to 2.40 now. This gives him sole possession of the Manatee record for complete games. Game time: 2 hours, 5 minutes.

Salas, Seidenberger Dominate in 5-1 Victory Coulter and Cooper Homer in Brevard County Win By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 08/22/2015 11:48 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/5/0/121645550/cuts/IMG_3176_1fns03sk_y8swfq0u.JPG Brevard County starter Javi Salas, seen here from a game from earlier this season, earned his eighth win of the season on Saturday night. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Clearwater, FL - Javi Salas dominated over six innings as the Brevard County Manatees (24-30, 53-70) defeated the Clearwater Threshers (34-22, 71-55) 5-1 on Saturday night at Bright House Field. Salas (8-8, 4.21 ERA) allowed just one run on five hits and one walk over six frames to earn the win. He struck out five. Trevor Seidenberger tossed three shutout frames to earn his fifth save of the year. The Manatees opened the scoring and took the lead for good in the fourth inning. With two outs, Clint Coulter smacked a solo homer to left field. It was Coulter's 13th home run of the year. The next batter, Garrett Cooper, homered to the opposite field to double the Brevard County lead. Cooper's eighth homer of the season marked the second time this week that Coulter and Cooper launched back-to-back home runs. The duo also hit consecutive homers on Monday night in Daytona. The lone Clearwater run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI ground out by Dylan Cozens. Brevard County added an insurance run in the seventh. Cooper and Rafael Neda singled consecutively to start the frame. Two batters later, Michael Ratterree lined a single to left field. Cooper scored and gave the Manatees a two-run advantage. The Manatees completed the scoring in the ninth. Cooper was hit by a pitch with no outs. After two outs were recorded, Ratterree drew a walk. Steven Halcomb then drilled a two-run triple to left field and made it 5-1, Brevard County. Victor Arano (4-12, 4.89 ERA) took the loss. He gave up three runs on eight hits in seven innings. After taking two of three games in Clearwater, the Manatees will head to Lakeland to start a three-game series with the Flying Tigers tomorrow. RHP Jorge Ortega (9-8, 2.48 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. The Flying Tigers will send LHP Trent Szkutnik (1-4, 6.75 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Brevard County Box Score This was the best start for Javi Salas since June 17th. It's been quite a while. Trevor Seidenberger has also struggled a little bit but did fine here. Omar Garcia, Garrett Cooper and Steven Halcomb all had 2 hit nights. Manatees "improved" to 22-41 on the road (they are a couple of games above .500 at home). It's been kind of a lost year for Michael Ratterree but remember he had that hand/wrist break in Spring Training and may not be fully recovered from that. Brevard County Game Log Brevard County Top of the 9th Steven Halcomb what happened here? Garrett Cooper hit by pitch. Rafael Neda strikes out swinging. Jose Pena strikes out swinging. Michael Ratterree walks. Garrett Cooper to 2nd. Steven Halcomb triples (1) on a line drive to left fielder Andrew Pullin. Garrett Cooper scores. Michael Ratterree scores. Early Runs Propel Manatees Over Threshers Brevard County Defeats Clearwater, 6-5 By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 08/21/2015 11:53 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/4/0/123072740/cuts/IMG_3870_gw6x3c5q_ds8omdt6.JPG Jose Pena, seen here from a game earlier this year, went 4-for-4 in Friday night's victory. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Clearwater, FL - The Brevard County Manatees' (23-30, 52-70) offense scored early and often in a 6-5 victory over the Clearwater Threshers (34-21, 71-54) on Friday night at Bright House Field. The Brevard County offense struck early. With two outs in the first inning, Clint Coulter and Garrett Cooper walked consecutively. Dustin Houle then singled to right field and plated Coulter. The next batter, Jose Pena, lined a base hit to left and scored Cooper. The Manatees made it 3-0 in the second frame. Steven Halcomb lined a single to right field to lead things off. Halcomb then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After an Angel Ortega walk, Omar Garcia grounded in to a double play, but scored Halcomb in the process. After Clearwater plated a run, the Brevard County offense responded immediately. With one out in the third, Cooper clubbed his 32nd double of the season. After Houle was hit by a pitch, Pena drilled an RBI double to center field. Pena finished 4-for-4 with 2 RBI. With Michael Ratterree batting, opposing starter David Whitehead uncorked a wild pitch and plated Houle. Ratterree then drove in Pena with a sacrifice fly to left field. The Threshers made it 6-5 with a run in the third and three runs in the fourth, but never truly threatened again. Johnny Hellweg (2-5, 6.00 ERA) earned the win. In four innings, he surrendered five runs - two earned - on four hits, three walks and two hit by pitches. Hellweg fanned three. Tristan Archer tossed four scoreless innings of relief. He allowed three hits and did not allow any free passes. Preston Gainey tossed a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to notch his eighth save of the season. The Manatees and Threshers will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Javi Salas (7-8, 4.35 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. Clearwater will send RHP Victor Arano (4-11, 4.95 ERA) to the bump. Brevard County Box Score Tristan Archer: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 6/2 GO/FO Preston Gainey: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Fabulous night for the bullpen. Threshers Win Big over Manatees, 11-1 Numata Knocks in Four, Rios Shuts Down Brevard County in Opener By Kirsten Karbach / Clearwater Threshers 08/20/2015 10:14 PM ET CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers exploded for ten runs across the sixth and seventh innings on Thursday, on their way to sinking the Brevard County Manatees, 11-1 at Bright House Field. Chace Numata led the way with a four-RBI night, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Yacksel Rios meanwhile shut down the Manatees for six innings in the start, limiting Brevard County (22-30) to just three hits while striking out five. The six innings for Rios (6-3) matched his longest of the season, with his other six-inning outing also coming against the Manatees back on July 4th. Rios tossed 80 pitches in the win, 52 for strikes. Clearwater (34-20) grabbed the advantage in the second off Cy Sneed (3-3), after Rhys Hoskins rocketed a triple off the top of the wall in right-center. He would score with two outs on Numata's infield single. It remained 1-0 until the sixth. With two men on and one out, Numata sent a single toward center that plated both Hoskins and Aaron Brown to make it 3-0. Mitch Walding followed with a single, his second of the night. With runners at the corners, Walding took off for second and was caught stealing, but Numata broke for the plate and scored as the throw went to second base. Up 4-0, Clearwater broke it wide open in the seventh. Hoskins drove a two-out RBI double to left off reliever Stephen Peterson, and Andrew Pullin reached on an error on the shortstop Angel Ortega, his second of the inning. That miscue opened the floodgates, as the next five batters all collected hits off Peterson. Jesmuel Valentin capped the scoring by shooting a triple just over the head of centerfielder Omar Garcia, scoring two runs to make it 11-0. All told, Clearwater brought across seven runs - one earned - on seven hits and three errors in the inning. Clearwater has won four straight, and will battle Brevard County for game two of the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. David Whitehead (7-10) toes the rubber against Johnny Hellweg (1-5), and the call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 6:15 p.m. Friday will also feature a Threshers Spirit Socks giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, presented by the Tampa Bay Times. Brevard County Box Score Ugly, ugly game. 3 walks by Cy Sneed, 2 errors by Angel Ortega, Dustin Houle threw behind a runner only to see him safe at second without a throw from Garrett Cooper, errant throw by Clint Coulter and Clint Coulter caught stealing. Stephen Peterson, who has been pretty reliable, gives up 7 hits in 2/3 of an inning. At least they got a run. Coulter with 2 hits. Home runs carry Daytona to doubleheader sweep of Manatees August 19, 2015 7:47 PM MST http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/6b/5b/6b5b69020a997450f360b1acd8dfdc91.jpg?itok=uR8BFwqE Phillip Ervin played both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Manatees. Aldrin Capulong (used with permission) The Brevard County Manatees traveled to Daytona Wednesday night to complete the home-at-home series against the Tortugas, with a doubleheader consisting of two seven inning games. Daytona hit a home run in each game and went on to sweep the doubleheader, 4-0 and 3-0. Daytona starter Amir Garrett was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout and earning his ninth win of the season. Garrett did not walk a batter and struck out six. On the other side, Wei-Chung Wang (9-5) got a complete game for the ‘Tees, but fell to 9-6 on the season. He walked one and struck out five. Daytona (32-19, 69-52 overall) got on the board early, scoring one in the top of the first against Wang. Carlton Daal singled to start the inning and came home one out later on a single by Phillip Ervin. The home team added to their lead in the fourth when Taylor Sparks tripled home Joe Hudson, who walked to lead off the inning. Sparks dealt Wang a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Joe Hudson hit a one out double and Sparks followed with his 12th home run of the year, giving the Tortugas a 4-0 lead. Sparks went 3-for-3 with a triple and the home run. He had three RBI. Omar Garcia, Dustin Houle, Rafael Neda and Angel Ortega all had singles for the Manatees. Sparks was the only hitter on either side to have a multi-hit game. Box Score Game 1 Wang with the complete game although he didn't pitch particularly well. Game 1 Game Log Brevard County Top of the 3rd This is about it for the Manatees' offense tonight: Steven Halcomb strikes out swinging. Angel Ortega singles on a line drive to right fielder Sebastian Elizalde. Angel Ortega advances to 2nd, on a fielding error by right fielder Sebastian Elizalde. Omar Garcia singles on a ground ball to left fielder Phillip Ervin. Angel Ortega out at home on the throw, left fielder Phillip Ervin to catcher Joe Hudson. Omar Garcia to 2nd on the throw. Christopher McFarland called out on strikes. Game two got off to a bit of a scary start. Manatees’ starter Zach Hirsch hit Daal with a pitch to start the game. The ball got Daal in the face and he was removed from the game after a lengthy delay. Wendell Soto entered the game to run for Daal and was moved to second on a Junior Arias single. After Ervin reached on an error to load the bases, Sparks hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. The sac fly turned into a double play, when Ervin was thrown out at second. Sebastian Elizalde’s RBI single scored Arias, to make it a 2-0 game. Arias gave the Tortugas a 3-0 lead with his ninth home run of the season, in the top of the second. Ortega got the Manatees first hit against Tortugas starter Seth Varner, a double in the third inning. Garrett Cooper hit his 31st two-bagger of the season in the fourth. Brevard County came up empty in both frames. Varner pitched five shutout innings of shutout ball for Daytona, allowing only the two hits. He walked one and struck out six. El'Hajj Muhammad came on to start the sixth for the Tortugas and gave up a single to Clint Coulter. One out later, Jose Pena hit a grounder that looked like it was going to result in an easy double play. Instead, Sparks throw to second was wild and Coulter got to third. That brought the tying run to the plate, but Paul Eshleman flied out to end the inning. Hirsch, who pitched a complete game for the Manatees took the loss. He settled down after that shaky first inning, but didn’t get any help from the Brevard County offense. Hirsch gave up six hits, walked one and struck out four. Brevard County (22-29, 51-69) will travel to Clearwater tomorrow to start a series against the Threshers. Cy Sneed (3-2, 2.60 ERA) will pitch against Threshers hurler Yacksel Rios (5-3, 3.03 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Game 2 Box Score 7 hits in 14 innings for the night. Always tough to come back from the scary HBP but Hirsch settled down pretty well after that. Two complete games from the starters. At least they saved the bullpen. Game 2 Game Log

It is worrisome that Clint Coulter seems to go long periods with lesser hitting. Let's not get crazy though - it is still the FSL. Let's looks at Victor Roache splits: April .312/.398/.558 May .254/.309/.447 June .188/.245/.297 (A+ only) July .307/.386/.602 (Biloxi) So his hitting exactly parallels Coulter's except for the jail break to Biloxi. I think part of it is that weather conditions in April were conducive to hitting before the hot, humid conditions set in. In comparison to the league, Clint is 2nd in HRs (1 behind the leader), 4th in doubles, 2nd in total bases, 11th in walks and 4th in slugging. He is still having a decent year relative to the league.

Woodruff Fans Career-High 10 in 5-1 Win Manatees Smack 10 Hits in Victory By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 08/18/2015 11:26 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/6/6/142829066/cuts/IMG_1873_frq2g4zo_0vne1kfe.JPG Brandon Woodruff, seen here, struck out a career-high ten batters in Tuesday's victory. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, FL - Brandon Woodruff dominated into the seventh inning as the Brevard County Manatees (22-27, 51-67 overall) defeated the Daytona Tortugas (30-19, 67-52 overall) 5-1 on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Woodruff (3-5, 3.75 ERA) struck out a career-high 10 and surrendered just one unearned run over 6.2 innings to earn the win. He allowed five hits and two walks. The Manatees scored early and often in support of Woodruff. The leadoff batter, Omar Garcia, was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the first. Chris McFarland then singled to right field and moved Garcia over to third. Clint Coulter drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center. After back-to-back walks to Garrett Cooper and Taylor Brennan, Dustin Houle lifted a sac fly to center field. In the bottom of the second, Jose Pena reached on a fielding error by Taylor Sparks with no outs. After a Steven Halcomb single, Garcia successfully sacrificed the runners to second and third. McFarland drilled a two-run single to left that scored both Pena and Halcomb. After a walk to Coulter, Daytona removed starting pitcher Nick Routt. Cooper greeted reliever Scott Brattvet with an RBI single to left-center and made it 5-0, Manatees. Jeff Gelalich got the Tortugas on the board with a run-scoring single in the fifth inning. Trevor Seidenberger threw 1.2 hitless relief innings and gave way to Preston Gainey with two on and one out in the ninth. Gainey induced a game-ending double play off of the bat of Junior Arias to record his seventh save of the season. Routt (5-3, 3.56 ERA) was hit with the loss. He gave up five runs - four earned - on three hits and three walks in 1.1 innings. Brevard County and Daytona will wrap up the series with a doubleheader tomorrow night in Daytona Beach. LHP Wei Chung Wang (9-4, 3.72 ERA) and LHP Amir Garrett (8-6, 2.52 ERA) will toe the rubber for game one. LHP Zach Hirsch (1-2, 5.09 ERA) will get the ball for the Manatees in game two. The Tortugas will send LHP Seth Varner (1-4, 4.32 ERA) to the hill in the second game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Since his mini shut down, Brandon Woodruff has been electric. Final line tonight: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 5/2 GO/FO Trevor Seidenberger was virtually unhittable early in the year but has struggled with control issues since he was promoted to Biloxi. Here he walked 3 in 1.2 innings although not giving up any runs. Preston Gainey finished out. Garrett Cooper led the offense with 3 singles and a walk raising his batting average to .299. Clint Coulter was 2 for 2 with 2 walks and a sacrifice fly. Chris McFarland added two hits and Omar Garcia stole his 48th base. Brevard County Game Log

Power Surge Supports Ortega Shutout in Game One Triumph By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 08/17/2015 8:28 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/7/0/119206470/cuts/IMG_2726_6dg3g2ya_p5fk4k4r.JPG Clint Coulter, seen here from a game earlier this year, hit his 12th home run of the season in game one's win on Monday. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Daytona Beach, FL - Buoyed by another stellar performance from Jorge Ortega, the Brevard County Manatees (21-27, 50-67 overall) took Game One of their doubleheader with the Daytona Tortugas (30-18, 67-51 overall) on Monday night, 3-0. Daytona's best chance to score came with runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the third. As Brian O'Grady went to steal second, Rafael Neda looked the runner back at third before throwing to second. Steven Halcomb stepped in front of the bag to cut off the throw and went home in time for Neda to apply the tag on Ronald Bueno and keep the 'Tugas off of the board. The Manatee breakthrough came in the top of the fifth against Tortugas starting pitcher Jackson Stephens with Taylor Brennan leading off the frame with a base hit to center. After Dustin Houle and Neda flew out, Brennan stole second with Michael Ratterree. He would draw a walk after fouling off several pitches to keep the inning alive for Halcomb. With two strikes in the count, Halcomb ripped a double off of the wall in left to bring home Brennan for the first run of the game. Insurance would come the following inning when Clint Coulter launched a one-out solo home run to left, his 12th of the season, to double the lead. On the next pitch, Garrett Cooper clubbed a home run to left center for his seventh of the season and cap the scoring. Ortega gave up just four hits in seven innings of work, striking out a season-high seven and walking none to record his fifth complete game of the season, which ties a Manatee single-season record, and his second shutout. Neda had two of Brevard County's six hits, the only multi-hit game in the lineup. He recorded his tenth double of the season in doing so. Brevard County Box Score Jorge Ortega's ERA down to 2.48 and leads the Florida State League in that category for starting pitchers. Clint Coulter is 2nd in HRs to Ericson Leonora of the Tampa Yankees. Garrett Cooper is 2nd in slugging to Alex Blandino. Brevard County Game Log The second game of the double header was rained out.

Brevard County Game 2 delayed by rain. Looks like a pretty extensive rain. They are supposed to make it up on Wednesday if game 2 is rained out today.
-
Jorge Ortega ties the club record (held by Timmy Dillard and 2 others) of 5 complete games. 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K's in 7 innings. Clint Coulter and Garrett Cooper homered on back-to-back pitches. 3-0 win in game 1.

Omar Garcia starting game 1 so it looks like he is okay (hit by pitch yesterday).

Manatees view point story: Tortuga Pitching Dominates in Series Opener By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 08/16/2015 10:49 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/6/141668686/cuts/Hellweg_cbolu2o7_qofm563u.JPG Johnny Hellweg, seen here, did not allow an earn run over five innings in Sunday's loss. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, FL - The depth of the Daytona Tortugas (30-17, 67-50 overall) was on display Sunday night as they stifled the Brevard County Manatees (20-27, 49-67 overall) 4-0 at Space Coast Stadium. Both teams had chances in the early stages as each starting pitcher struggled with command but the breakthrough would come in the top of the fifth inning. The frame started with an infield single by Carlton Daal, who then advanced to second when Manatee starting pitcher Johnny Hellweg's pickoff attempt went wide of first base. Sebastian Elizalde moved Daal another 90 feet on a groundout to second. After striking out Taylor Sparks, Hellweg then had two strikes on Phillip Ervin when he was called for a balk with Daal doing plenty of moving off of third base. The Tortugas would put the game on ice in the top of the eighth inning against Javi Salas. Ty Washington would start the rally with a one-out double down the left field line. Brian O'Grady would bring him home right away on a base hit to right. Wendell Soto then sliced a single into right center to put runners at the corners for Daal. A wild pitch would allow Soto to move up to second but Daal had a grounder to Angel Ortega on a drawn-in infield who would throw home to erase O'Grady at the plate. Elizalde then lifted a fly ball to right that Jose Pena misplayed, allowing Soto and Daal to score. The Daytona pitching quartet of Nick Travieso, Nolan Becker, El'Hajj Muhammad and Carlos Gonzalez combined to retire the last 20 Manatee hitters following Chris McFarland's one-out single in the bottom of the third. It was one of just two Manatee hits on the night. Hellweg gave up just the one unearned run on two hits while striking out two and walking six in five innings of work. Omar Garcia stole his 46th and 47th bases of the season before having to leave in the bottom of the third inning after being hit by a Travieso pitch. The two teams will meet again on Monday at Radiology Associates Field in Daytona Beach for a doubleheader. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 5:05 p.m. with a 30-minute interval in between games. Travieso leads 'Tugas to two-hit shutout Combines with three relievers to retire final 22 Manatees batters By Combines with three relievers to retire final 22 Manatees batters / Daytona Tortugas 08/16/2015 9:16 PM ET RHP Nick Travieso has thrown five scoreless innings in each of his last two starts for Daytona. (Aldrin Capulong) Viera, FL - The Daytona Tortugas (30-17, 67-50) improved to 8-4 against their I-95 rivals, the Brevard County Manatees (20-27, 49-67), with a 4-0 two-hit shutout win on Sunday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Tortugas drew six walks in the first four innings off Johnny Hellweg, but could not break the 0-0 tie until the fifth. SS Carlton Daal beat out a leadoff single on a chopper to second, moved up on an errant pickoff throw, and advanced to third on a groundout by RF Sebastian Elizalde. With two outs, Daal crept down the third base line and drew a balk from Hellweg. The balk gave Daytona a 1-0 lead before LF Phillip Ervin struck out on the next pitch to end the inning. RHP Nick Travieso (W, 5-5) left with that one-run lead, working around a pair of walks and a pair of singles to post five scoreless innings with two strikeouts. He retired each of the last eight batters he faced, and has not allowed a run in any of his last 10 innings. The bullpen was perfect. LHP Nolan Becker (H, 4) retired the side in order and picked up a K in the sixth, RHP El'Hajj Muhammad (H, 7) induced a pair of fly balls and struck out a batter in a flawless eighth, and RHP Carlos Gonzalez retired the final six hitters of the game and recorded two strikeouts. Daytona broke the game open with three runs in the eighth. DH Ty Washington grounded a one-out double down the third base line, and scored on a ground ball single to right field from 1B Brian O'Grady. After a 2B Wendell Soto walk and a Daal fielder's choice, Elizalde skied a pitch to right field that Jose Pena dropped. Two runs came home, and the Tortugas had a 4-0 lead. The two teams will match up for eight more games in 2015, including a doubleheader on Belly Buster Monday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
