  1. Here are my thoughts: *Braun is done as a superstar and is merely average: You'd be delusional to think he is a superstar anymore *Ramirez is done. Period: No, he can still hit, but is a 120 game guy now. *Gomez reverts to the pre-2013 Gomez: No, he is a star and I'd love to see him traded for a huge package *Segura is who he has been for the past year and a half: I hope he is still a talent, but he needs to turn it around *Scooter cannot hit LHP and hits .260 as a full time player: I think he is Jim Gantner and he will be fine. *Lind cannot stay healthy: See Ramirez *Lohse is done. Period.: No, he will be a gritty vet who gets it done. I think this is his last year of any kind of ability though *Fiers is a fluke: No, I think he is a legit #4 *Nelson is not ready to be an everyday #5: Id be shocked if he isnt a legit #5.
  2. Braun had everything it took to be the face of the franchise and the greatest Brewer ever. A great player and a likable person. I just dont see it anymore. I saw him play plenty last year, and not trying to pull a Olney, but I just didn't see the elite talent that made him what he was. He performed and more importantly looked very much like a 750 player instead of a 950 player. I have to attribute that to lack of PEDS. You are kidding yourselves if you think he will ever be a 950 guy again w/o PEDS.
  3. This lineup is in big trouble. You have to assume Braun, Lind, and Ramirez are 120 game players at best. Without them playing at career norms, this is a really soft lineup by Brewer standards. Coming off that disastrous 2nd half last year, Im quite surprised the team elected to pretty much stand pat with the exception of Lind and the Rangers trade. Not exactly breaking new ground with that statement but this is a 500 team or worse unless some unexpected players make a VERY big leap in 2015.
  4. I am more and more convinced that Braun is a PED guy and that's that. His body cant recover anymore. I was such a HUGE fan of the guy but its clear he isn't a star player anymore.
  5. I read one report that suggests he is now the 10th best prospect in baseball. I wonder how the first 9 feel right about now? How about Brady Aiken? Baseball seems to have a huge amount of "unwritten" rules around respect for the game and the other players. Just ask the Cardinals, they are experts. This signing and the Cuban loophole is ultimately bad for the game.
  6. Kidd targeted him, so that was going to be his guy. The pick was available to the Bucks, but they (meaning Kidd) preferred MCW. If MCW shows the kind of improvement in the last 20 or so games + the play offs that Knight showed post Kidd, then the Bucks could flip him for better than the Lakers pick.
  7. As a Brewer fan, this is pretty typical, and sadly, expected. However, just be glad we aren't Yankee fans. Losing out to Boston when you have that checkbook is inexcusable.
  8. It's all about Braun. If he is back to a 950 ops guy, the offense looks great. If not, this team will be lacking. Yes, it's over simplification, but who else can make the leap to fill in for his expected bat if he is back to 750? I like the rotation, the bullpen looks good even if Broxton is the closer.
  9. Sure, they weren't actually in possession of the asset but they could've been. That's the point I was making. By just cutting Philly out, that pick could've been theirs. And yeah, they probably wouldn't get the pick this year but it's only top 3 protected for the next 2 years and unprotected in 2018. You think the Lakers are going to have a mid 1st round pick next year? To me they're almost a guaranteed lottery team. At best I think they're 11th in the Western Conference. I'll take that gamble all day long, especially when the other gamble is a player as bad as MCW. The Bucks weren't going to make that trade without getting back a starting PG who could play D. We all know MCW's offensive advanced stats, but for whatever reason, Kidd wanted him. So that was that. He didn't want the Lakers pick so it was never going to be LAL Pick plus two young guys for Knight. As for the Lakers pick, we went from 15 wins to 30 at ASB, so given the Lakers check book, anything is possible. If you want to feel better, remember we turned Jennings into Middleton, MCW, Ennis, and Plumlee. Id say we won this.
  10. Can't we consider Lara and Gatewood possible 3B candidates? Yoan is exactly what the Brewers need in terms of plus plus impact and position, but I can't possibly see how we can outbid a motivated Yankee checkbook??????
  11. MCW has been brutal on the offensive end, brilliant on defense. The bottom line is Kidd loves him so thats his guy. Kidd has taken us this far, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt here. The Lakers pick could have been perhaps the 6th pick this year or the 4th pick next year. OR....it could be the 20th pick next year based on FA and the Lakers spending like, well, the Lakers? Knight, who was much better on the box score than using advanced metrics, was going to lose a lot of asset value once he signed his next deal, so the Bucks made an excellent trade. A rebounding center, and two young cheap PG's for Kidd to coach and build around our core players.
  12. That's the buyout number. I guess LS decided he wouldn't ever play nice, or give up his "hobby" so with suspensions he was never going to see the remaining contract anyhow. This is a shame, he was exactly what this team needed going forward. Either way, this deal frees up a ton of cap room and allows the Bucks to go out and pick up RFAs on the cheap at the trade deadline.
  13. Ersan to go would free up money to sign Middleton, who is borderline irreplaceable. This team is interesting; way past being able to tank and just good enough to tantalize to go for a decent run this year. However Id keep my eye on next year, not this year. If they can land a young talented but flawed big like Kanter or 1-2 year lottery ticket like Stauskas on the cheap, do it. Edit: Bucks just reached a buy out agreement on Sanders for $13-15??Mil. That frees up a lot of cap money due to the "stretch" provision. I am unclear on how much this year and in subsequent years.
  14. I'd be looking to move Ersan, Mayo, and maybe Henson if we can land a serious PG and rebounder.
  15. I'd make Larry the last guy on the roster, test him regularly, and hope someone gives you an asset in the hopes of resurrecting his career. Like pick up a 2018 1 and take back a slightly less bad contract. Rim protectors like him are very rare. He is done with the Bucks, but Im sure there is someone that thinks they are smarter than Kidd and can get Larry to play. Edit: Looks like they are close on a buy out.
  16. We don't usually get a good handle on the personality characteristics of the player. With all of the advanced metrics, this is one critical area of analysis that is well shielded from us, the fans. I have a feeling, and it's just that, that Delmonico was not a guy that was going to "get it" despite his obvious plus talents.
  17. Just saw the Brewers released Nicky Delmonico. EDIT: Thread discussing White Sox signing of Delmonico includes comments from Chicago management
  18. This is the only answer. Pap is one of the highest paid closers in the game, has declining skills, and the Brewers have decent options to close. The Brewers are not an elite closer (and Pap isnt projected to be that in 2015) away from the play offs. Unless its a pure salary dump on the part of the Phillies, there is very little value for the Brewers to justify giving up a meaningful package.
  19. Does anyone think the Brewers are a Pap over Broxton/Henderson/KRod upgrade away from a play off spot? If not, the Phillies can keep him if they want anything other than a AAAA player in return.
  20. Yep, but even that is a massive upgrade from where the club was even just 5-10 years ago. Not to mention that 'just' a back-end SP saves your team from purchasing that on the FA market at something like $8-10M/yr. You can use guys like Jungmann for sure and they do have value. Im pretty bullish on him because of his high floor, so Im not cutting him down as a player. Some mentioned him as a possible trade for Pap which is why I brought him up and immediately suggested Jungmann for Pap+ contract is an over pay. But you don't win championships when guys like him are your "next wave". You need to bring on future All Stars, not just future replacement level types.
  21. Its going to be a $60M to $100M total investment. I don't see how the Brewers fit into this at all. If they were to sign Shields, they would lose their pick and this guy would replace it, but at a massive cost. Both Shields and Moncada would be approaching $170M?????
  22. What is this strange new world where the Brewers have pitching depth (& most of it home-grown)? This is the issue with the Brewers farm system the past few years. Lots of guys who will play in the majors, few that project to be plus plus though. Jungmann is the prototype Brewer Prospect IMHO. Will play, probably start, but back end type. Hopefully that is changing with the last draft and Lara, Coulter, Taylor.
  23. I think you are right. I played in HS and the team was a bunch of alpha males who found many creative ways to act like a jerk, and that was with no money, living at home, and with a HS structure during the day. Wasn't the Brewer's trade of Lawrie essentially due to these issues rather than talent for talent? I always thought teams should invest in more coaches in the minors to keep the player to coach ratio manageable. I wouldn't trade anything of value for Pap. The Brewers simply don't need him that badly relative the very low market value of him/his contract.
  24. If they want those guys, let them keep that contract, and the Brewers should roll with Broxton and/or KRod and move on. Pap wont keep that 2 HR allowed into 2015 with his declining velocity. Throw in that contract and you know why he is still a Phillie.
  25. The vesting option is the reason this goes a lot closer to need to dump vs want to dump. Apparently he has worn out his welcome in Philly too. Though maybe that makes him OK in my book? I probably value Jungmann, Lopez, and Reed more than the rest of baseball. If for no other reason than Id like to see those guys go in a trade where we actually need to part with something to get something. I can't see there is any kind of market for Pap right now? If the Brewers are expected to taking on much more than $7M AAV, I would assume this is a pure salary dump with at most a AAAA type going back. DM has shown he will part with top prospects for a key piece. Does he think Pap fits that category?
