  1. Also, virtually every pitcher in the pen is a two pitch pitcher. That's usually why they end up in the pen. Of course there are exceptions, but in general. And of course it seems our new coach seems to think only 1 pitch is enough. For example, take your Black and Peralta examples, they're two pitch guys and Peralta was kind of used as a righty specialist out of the pen last year. Then this year he's been turned into a mostly one pitch guy so even worse. But hey, he did throw 8 good pitches the other days so he's BACK!!! They simply do not have anywhere near 7 reliable guys. They have 1, and even he had a bad stretch not long ago. Seems to have it fixed now though but he's the only guy you can put out there without everyone being anxious that something bad is gonna happen.
  2. I’d have kept Perez down. Gamel down. Called up Freitas. Traded for Castellanos. Outfield: Grisham Cain Yelich Castellanos Braun Infield: Moose Arcia Hiura Thames Grandal Pina Freitas Arcia plays every game. Don’t need Perez. Vs LHP it’s Castellanos in LF Cain in CF Yelich in RF Moose at 3B Arcia SS Hiura 2B Freitas 1B Pina C Freitas hit .530 vs LHP so he’s my 1B over Grandal who’s best side is LH. He can rest up, because he’s played a lot the first 4 months. So yeah, I have a grasp of roster construction, and this lineup kills LHP. And I would argue we’d be right there with the Cubbies. Sorry no you don't. That roster construction is absolutely terrible for an NL team. You have no one that can functionally play any IF other than the 3 starters and a bunch of corner OF/1b/C. Not sure if you noticed, but two of our IFs got hurt, you have to plan on that. You have multiple guys overlapping at the same positions even though only a fixed amount can play each day. It's brutal. Moreover, you're giving up all that flex to "improve" from Grandal vs LHP to Freitas, even though Grandal has a mid to upper 8s OPS vs Lefties. And giving up at least two good prospects to improve from Cain to Castellanos for 2 months, which might not actually even help the team because it would create the worst defensive OF in baseball. Plus, management correctly viewed this year's deadline as not a 'lets go for it' type of year so didn't wanna blow more prospects. And remember, it's not like Castellanos has ever hit like this before so it's a massive lucky fluke. Again, this makes no sense.
  3. We all know Jackson is a 2 pitch pitcher. Slider is his best pitch. He’s not really effective vs Lefties, but can dominate RH batters. So with this information in the brain, why pitch him vs a team in a tie game, with R L R L????????????? Why not pitch Black or Nelson or Peralta or Guerra. That’s 4 better options right there. Bring Jackson in later to face a tough RH batter only in a tight game. Here's why it doesn't make sense. 1) You consider him good, but admit he can't get 1/3 of hitters out according to you. 2) You consider him good, yet guys in AAA 5 days ago are supposedly better options according to you 3) He literally just pitched against this team and did well. Yet the manager should not have used him again because it's clear he can't get this team out I don't know how many just blatantly wrong and contractadictory takes you needed pointed out to you before maybe you just chill a bit.
  4. Man this is just too funny at this point.
  5. It seems you don't grasp there has to be a spot to play these guys. There is not unlimited rosters and these guys can't play SS, 3B, CF (plus we're paying a CF 17 mil and is gold glove on D). You don't have the roster spots and you don't have DHs for multiple positions. You're now claiming we needed Castellanos who plays the same spot as our two best hitters this year combined with needing a 3rd C to help at 1B/C when our current 1B/C combo vs lefties did great vs lefties and our normal 1B has mid to upper 8s OPS. None of this makes any sense.
  6. Well Huira came up at that time improve it. Aguilar was jettisoned to improve and play Grandal instead. Where would you have played Castellanos? Yelich and Braun have been our best hitters this year. They banked on CAin improvement 2nd half, which he generally did but still not great. So, in your plan our daily OF would be Braun in LF, Yeli CF, Castellanos in RF. Potentially one of the worst OF Ds in the league Also, Cubs gave up their 2017 #1 pick and I think the other guy was a recent #2 pick.
  7. Peralta "probably good"???????????????????????????????? You realize that he has a 12.96 ERA, 2.64 WHIP in his last 9 appearances? Counsell has only used him 1 time in the last 20 days. But at least you've finally demoted Burnes from "MLB high leverage use only" to "bad." You realize this all game by game sweeping comical level hot take overreactions don't you? Peralta: Demoted to AAA because he was so bad, comes back up and throws 8 pitches and now he's "Good". If you don't see it you're wrong as its a 'no brainer', then 4 days later it changes. IMO: Burnes should be listed as Good too. I read an article he went to the lab and now he's got it all figured out. High leverage ACE reliever now!!!
  8. Yea I wish as well. Issue is they don't have anyone else as they're just not that good. Use Guerra there instead and then you're scrambling later and will need Albers then. It's a no win situation. PItch Guerra and he gets lit up you'd be here saying Guerra shouldn't be in either since he's been so-so lately and kind overrused a bit lately. So it's a no brainer he shouldn't be in so the manager is an idiot.
  9. FYI: Last weekend Jackson pitched 3 innings vs the Cubs and gave up no runs on 3 hits. Fast forward 4 days and the manager is an idiot for pitching him vs the Cubs because it's a no brainer.
  10. Pomeranz is fine. One bad pitch, it happens. Jackson shouldn’t be pitching vs the Cubbies and I already explained why, And a could be good pitcher(Albers)should not be pitching in a tie game vs a team that we have to beat, when there are 4+ better options. You have to cover 5 innings at least and you don't have any other options. Ah, so a good guy can't pitch vs certain teams and/or can only face hitters of one hand, is he really that good then? I can't believe how you can't see the flaws in everything you're preaching. If Jackson mowed them down, Albers got nothing, Pomeranz does well and Hader/Gurra finish you'd be in hear screaming told ya so about how awesome the pitching/pen is. Instead, it's obvious none of those guys should have been used. Reality is none of these guys are that good, so bad days like this happen just too much and it's a crap shoot day by day
  11. Agree. He did the rebuild quickly and quite well, A+ there. Now, it's the next step of making a consistent winner/contender for several years (Cardinals type style). We'll see if he can do that as it is obviously very difficult. Hopefully he learned a lot on the pitching staff this year and does better with it next year. I'd also add that we should remember that in spite of the frustration and disappointment in this year technically they are in it near the end and likely going to be above .500. So I guess technically you could say it's now been 3 years of contending in a row. And we have to remember we're still MKE so can't just dump money and make the playoffs every year like so many other teams. For the LHP thing. Yes, clearly an issue now. But ripping Stearns on it from a team building perspective I think is a stretch if you think deeper than recency bias. At team building stage he had Jesus and Cain as returning all stars as RH hitters. RH masher Hiura on the rise to spell the Moose/Shaw combo and Braun crushes LHP. SH Catcher and good backup C vs lefties. Cain/Jesus had awful years and Braun while having a good year did not have his normal crazy LHP stats. Going into next year it should be addressed but I think you're stretching it to blame him for how the team was built this year on it, those three things happening couldn't be planned.
  12. Yea general issue with pitching all years has been way too reliant on just fastballs. Seemingly comes back to coaching a bit when it's this much of a trend. For now ripping on this pen by Bc92. Going into this game he had Jackson in Probably Good, Pomeranz in Good, and Albers in Could be Good. Now, manager is an idiot for using them.
  13. Well, luck combined with guy hitting massive bombs. Tough to call it all luck. Sure the dribbler before the slam happened, but the slam wasn't luck. And it's not like Rizzo didn't hit that ball hard down the line.
  14. Exactly, he has very few reliable options combined with starters who can't go deep. Nothing you can really blame the manager for here, all he can do is try to pick the least bad option. You put a better guy like say Guerra out there in the 5th and does ok and on, well then you need a guy like Jackson to pitch later in the game and if he gets lit up then its "why the heck is CC using Jackson in late/close situations". He can't win and it's a crap shoot with most guys at this point.
  15. Well if you signed him you'd be planning on him playing everyday and not being part time platoon. His career splits are fine. Sure he crushes LHP but is fine vs RHP too. That said, at his age and with some regression showing the last two years already I don't think you can go substantial length with him. If you can get one or two years then it could make sense but I'd guess Sox trump anything we should be willing to do
  16. I don't really wear jerseys for the reasons mentioned by most of just being too old for it. Exceptions being actually going to the game, and really all I have for that is a couple older Brewers ones, like Greg Vaughn. Another exception I see and I think makes sense is basketball jerseys if you're doing outdoorys active things, stuff many people wear a tank top for anyway. So, why not where a bball jersey as its just like any other tank top? Think of playing volleyball, boating, pool days, jogging, etc. Another note: If you're around a younger crowd at all (I'm in Madison so a younger city) it is very very common for people mid 20s and under to just wear basketball jerseys just for the heck of it for anything. Bit of a newer trend the last 5ish years. That said, they're young so it's different.
  17. Yea after those first couple ones late in the season he went to the Cubs it's been kinda normal. There was one at Wrigley where Braun hit 2 HRs off him early and they kinda lit him up. For your carry over points and Braun being the only one, Braun has a 1.001 OPS vs him. Still, no Hiura right now really hurts in this matchup. Hope we're due for a good one tonight on him
  18. I personally take credit for the retro jersey trend and MKE bring back the ball and glove. Had legit 80s Bird and Moncrief jerseys I'd wear in the late 90s as a high schooler. And found a bunch of old actual 80s ball and glove hats in my parents basement and wore in the late 90s. Like 3 years later the trend started, I assume I crossed paths with Nelly somewhere
  19. 3 up 3 down to start and Braun to left and deep in the 1st would really help. Getting about as close to must win as you can get at this point, game 1 is huge in this one.
  20. I saw a Zion Williamson Pelicans jersey in Madison the other day. My basic prediction for the year is a return to the playoffs for GB but no SB. Bears will not make the playoffs and have their usual dip after a good year like has been customary for basically my whole life. Obviously tonight could go a long way in that prediction. Bears should be fired up and have a big advantage, but this is typically when Rodgers rips their hearts out. So that's what I'll predict, but I'm by no means confident with how poorly GB usually starts on O and Rodgers being hurt a bunch already and not playing at all in preseason with a new offense.
  21. My best guess would be that he's not more than a borderline starter, so basically a utility IF. But, I also think he could've had good value for MKE in that he's at least a much more contact friendly type hitter than what Arcia has been so far. So I could've seen him has an alternative there and profiles as the type of hitter we'd like to see more of (even if his %s and OPS etc don't end up that great), but if the powers decided they're sticking with Arcia for another year or two then I understand the urgency to move him now. I'd say if we get value will come simply down to Black/Pomeranz and if we get more than just this year out of them. If you get multiple years of solid contribution I don't think anyone can be too upset. If both guys are gone this year, well then we probably didn't get much back and might've been better to keep as insurance policy at IF. We'll see, hope the guy does well and at least one of these guys does well for us the next few years too.
  22. Yea if I'm guessing right now I think they pick him up as I don't think a significant every day type upgrade will be available without much more money. Two in house platoon options on the team already in Braun/Grandal. Obviously who knows if Grandal is back though. If Moose is gone, the replacement could be RH who can play some 1B. With the 26th spot maybe a backup OF can play some 1B and is RH, but I doubt it with Gamel/Grisham. Since it's 1B/3B related, I'd also be guessing Shaw isn't picked up as of now. I mean he still looks completely lost, good thing we didn't give him a 6 year deal after a good few months huh. Also, absolute blast reading back on the hot takes of months past here
  23. One factor that probably comes into everything is if someone is going to let him try to start again. As in, he might value one more opportunity at it and choose that route with a non contending team that gives him that chance. If he fails, go back to the pen again. That could also factor into what money he gets as well. In other news, Dubon did hit a ding dong the other day. He's at 4/16 with a HR so far.
  24. Guy's gotta get his posts in while he can before the next pitching staff blowup dampens the September callup narrative that he's been parroting for the past 3 months falls apart. Well a mere 2-3 weeks ago management all had to go due to how horribly the team is built and managed. Now, apparently they're one of the best teams in the league. I already addressed that. But I’ll do it again. I was wrong. I was angry at Stearns for the specific roster imbalance, and Freitas being kept down with a .530 batting average vs Lefties. Our lineup against LHP, no upgrade at SS. I’m not angry anymore, it’s over, he’s more than made up for with the deadline deals he did make, and the planned September roster. But that’s fine, some on here can keep bringing up our 13 th ranked pitching, ha, or how we have too small of a sample size, blah blah blah. ahh, but this time you're right and we're all just too blind to see it. Just like we were then as well. OK
