  1. IDK, seems a fairly negative view of it all to me. Seems to have set himself up perfectly with good moves for years to acquire assets. Didn't give away assets for nothing. Made two trades for AS level guys while giving up very little. Made good draft picks for years. Most trades all worked out well. Go back and look at some of the trades he's made and its almost comical how badly he ripped people off. And then yea he got lucky with the Kawhi situation happened, but good management for years allowed him to make the move. ANd lucky that GSW got hurt too of course. BTW, that same Kawhi opportunity fell in everyone's lap but he's the only one who did it. Take the DD signing. yea, a treadmill move on the surface and an overpay or whatever. But, he didn't just let that trade ticket/contract go for nothing like so many MKE fans want to do with our guys now because he knew he'd need the contract and ability to operate above the cap. And if something didn't come up or work out, well then in the meantime DD keeps helping you be good, filling the seats, keeping fans engaged, etc.
  2. Yea it could very easily just be ramping up after the long delay. But, combine with his late season issues last year (don't recall if his velo was down) and 'could' be a bad sign. Still way too early to know or make anything of though
  3. Yup the reasons are gone now. Shaw: given his chance he deserved/earned as a solid player for two years. Super 2: should be done now. You don't lose any organizational depth by putting Shaw in AAA (whereas before you would've if you put Jesus down). So, the time seems right.
  4. I'm done here. You're completely fabricating statements to try to further your argument. It was a regular season award. The Bucks improved by 16 games. Toronto by negative 1. Which GM did a better job improving his team during the regular season? Relax man. What did I fabricate? Are you arguing that playing Kawhi in those games wouldn't have increased their chances of winning those games? Logic would be if they won the ones without him they very likely would have as well if he played. Then logically their chances increase in the losses. Then apply this to Lowry as well. And again, it should be a credit to him that he built a team deep and strong enough they could do this in order to prep for the playoffs, that is a good thing he should be credited for. Just like how it was dumb to hold it against Giannis in MVP that he did so well that he sat 4th Qs and games late in the season. It is not a most improved team award, you're essentially saying a previously good team can't win this award and ignoring that they overhauled the team. And while yes it is a yearly award looking at it this narrowly ignores years of work that lead to building a team. You're missing that Tor turned over 4/5 starters and got a new HC this year and still won the same amount games while sitting their two best players a ton. They did not run back their team, he very astutely remade the whole team and it all worked. He also made a great HC hire, just like ours did. ETA: So in this way of thinking, if GSW makes a bunch of great moves to still win the same amount of games they just did this year their GM can't win this award even though he would have had to build a completely different team? Also, it's funny Orlando improved 17 games this year, Hambone FTW, haha. Also made me remember a COY quirk my Jazz friend always brings up, Coach Sloan never won a COY of the year, essentially because he won every year. 2nd ETA: GSW won this award the first year of KD in spite of winning 6 less regular season games. Houston improved 14 that year, and of course several normal improvements in the 7-10 range
  5. Next to no way Hiura gets traded guys, relax on that. There's just almost no way it happens since there is no true ace level pitching available. Sure, I could see Dubon being used now since his shine is probably strong (same way that tried to sell high on Brinson). that could totally happen. But my guess is they plan on Perez being gone next year and Dubon taking that spot. Plus, with Arcia still not a great hitter who knows how committed they are to him longer term
  6. But, the Kawhi trade was for postseason and he made a great deal on it for what he gave up. Stole him with eyes on playoffs only, not regular season. Then sat him a ton of games, which hurt the record you bring up. They went 18-4 without Kawhi playing. That's a 67 win pace. How is that a bad thing? Sounds like a GM who built a deep great team, so good that he could rest it's best players a lot (lowry also sat 17 games) and still win, that was well rested and ready to win in the playoffs. Yea, definitely a knock on him.
  7. My take would be that Pitching coaches matter way more than Hitting coaches. And I think I could probably even get behind an opinion that really only the truly top notch pitching coaches matter or make a significant difference (rather than marginal). Think your Dave Duncans and the old ATL coach, looks like a real possibility DJ is one of those types of guys. Seems like on hitting really all they can do is some marginal differences, and I'd say that's all we've gotten this year from the change. Generally I like the approaches better. More oppo for some, seems like better RISP results (off eye test, haven't looked up stats). Overall results are jsut better, but of course helped by Moose/Grandal over blackholes at those spots last year.
  8. Meanwhile, we're almost halfway through the year and Cin has a 3.6 ERA for 3rd best in all of MLB after having a garbage staff last year. It's tough to blame anyone for this as we have no idea on the negotiations and whatever personal situations that mattered to him. But let's just say it should be clear that it was a loss for the team instead of stomping our feet and arguing that pitching coaches don't matter. Personally, when you're spending 130mil on the roster one would think just paying whatever was needed to keep him would've been a drop in the bucket, but again we just don't know what the story is on it.
  9. There was plenty of logical reasons to give his Shaw a chance. Personally I would've let Shaw play in AAA for a bit instead of rushing back so quickly. But it was fine. But it just hasn't worked out. You did right by him and there's no way he can be bitter that he wasn't given a chance or anything. But at this point I think you just have to swap them and let Shaw play everyday in AAA to get right. You've given him plenty of rope and the result is 174 avg and barely 300 obp since he's been back. Jesus has been respectable of late and of course can't be optioned, so I think this is the move any day now.
  10. B99 and Veep, totally agree with you guys. Amazing shows. Veep was top notch through the end. Latest season of B99 maybe took a dip down but still very good and worth watching. Archer: Agree this season is way better than the last two that just go so out there. Not at the original levels, but great to see them getting back to the basics a bit that made the show great to begin with
  11. The outcome of that episode was fantastic. I was rooting for that outcome since being introduced to that character. Can't wait to see the effects on the rest of the season/series. I used to make fun of all the GoT fans around me, now I get it! Yup, kind of reaction and feelings of how good this show was is what made it so great to begin. which makes the last seasons so frustrating. Seriously the show had legit argument for best show ever and this person is experiencing it now. It really was that good.
  12. ChWiz last points on overall results in the 4 years has obviously been great. All I was getting at is that has been on the back of the defense while the offense has scuffled since he's been back. If we get taht fixed and D maintains being strong then they're going to do very well. Note that expecting top 5 Ds like they had before last year is too much to expect, but still being very good consistently with the system brought in by Anderson/Aranda is very realistic. They've recruited great on both sides of the ball to seemingly do all of this, now they need to execute it.
  13. Horst signed Lopez, brought in Budenholzer, Hill and Mirotic. They went from 44 to 60 wins. Toronto went from 59 to 58. Horst also had nothing to do with Giannis. Of course I see the argument but when you're at 58 wins you obviously have next to no room for improvement for regular season wins. And of course, as I said it's a regular season award so it's fine and it make sense. But, the Kawhi trade was for postseason and he made a great deal on it for what he gave up. Stole him with eyes on playoffs only, not regular season. Then sat him a ton of games, which hurt the record you bring up. Then the Gasol trade which was also for postseason and done so late in the year it doesn't affect regular season record. Their GM also fired their coach and brought in a new coach this year who won 58 games, so also a good hire. Then combine it with all the past moves he's made that led to this team and I think he deserved. I assume he's won one or two in the past though, so whatever it's fine and not a big deal. I mean, the Bucks probably gave up more to acquire Hill, Mirotic than Tor gave up to aquire Kawhi/Gasol. I actually saw a tweet that laid it out that way and it shocked me. Again, it's fine. Not an egregious mistake and certainly debatable since it's voted at end of regular season. But that's where I'd have voted. Of course one could argue that all awards could be voted after postseason, which I'd generally disagree with as everyone would get too Ringzzz obsessed and be skewed by recency bias. But if there is one that could be argued shouldn't be voted til after postseason I'd say it's executive.
  14. I know, but that's the point those teams still scored tons. Paul scored a lot at Pit with obviously way less quality of line play there. He did have the one awesome WR in Boyd. So after 4-5 years I was expecting the offense to just be flourishing but the reality is it's been holding them back. I know the OL of the last two years got hyped like crazy but frankly it just wasn't as good as the lines of the previous Chryst and just after Chryst era. That's really been the issue imo. I know Melvin was ridiculous, I've never seen anything like him, but often times he didn't get touched for 8 yds and we had just as poor of a passing game then. It was most evident in that whichever RB you put behind those lines would kill it and have really high YPC. Personally I think Bostad should be back on OL but I don't know the story as to why it hasn't happened. For all I know he doesn't want to do it and likes coaching D, IDK. But some people report that he still spends some time helping with OL after practice and on the side. We also can't get a clear answer as to who's calling the plays. My best guess is Rudy is calling plays with of course PC heavily involved in pre game planning and is on the headsets so can chime in when he wants. But PC was one of the best play callers in college football, no reason he shouldn't still be doing it, especially as the O has stagnated the last couple years. To get off the negative. Yes the recruiting uptick has been evident the last few years. All stuff we've been wanting to see. It's all set up well. Now we have to execute it on the field like I'm saying for the offense. And on D they have to stick to the aggressive blitzing 34 D that made them great leading up to last year. Imagine if we had those Ds at the same time as previous Chryst Os, that's true title contender status on the tier right below OSU/Clemson/Bama.
  15. I think they just need someone that can throw a big boy pass. Yea it should help. But they were scoring 40-50 pts a game with Tolzien and even the remnants after Paul left and all they had was Stave they were still just manhandling teams and scoring a lot even though they had a very limited passing game. Essentially, just saying they only had an elite QB one year yet they were just rolling over people. Waiting for that to return. Play actions, less predictability due to personnel on the field, passing game not only being shotgun. There's lots of room for improvement, I expected them to be back to a prolific offense by now.
  16. Generally agree all the pieces are in place. General area of concern for me is we're going on like 5 years now of Chryst being back and the offense hasn't taken off to anywhere near it was when he left and he generally scored a ton of pts at PIT as well. Still waiting for that shoe to drop.
  17. Well OAK is a prime candidate to move, probably 2nd most likely after TB. How funny would it be if they had to share a stadium with the Raiders again as they wait for an MLB stadium to be completed. It would also make sense for the CA connections just mentioned, and that it doesn't mess up the divisions/leagues. Jericho just made a great point though in that the LV TV market likely wouldn't be great so targeting a larger population city in order to rely on TV could be more important than worrying about in game attendance.
  18. Not an "event" to travel to for road fans? I would easily go to Vegas to see the Brewers for a 3 game series, and I'm not a Vegas guy by any means. Cheap plane tix and rooms and endless things to do and see and eat when not going to the game. They'd have to be in an A/C dome though. Well maybe it would be moreso than I think. I was generally thinking of it 'relative' to an NFL game though. Yes, of course some will plan a trip around for baseball or NBA. But I would assume over 50% of fans attending Raider games will be road teams traveling in and the Raiders won't have attendance issues due to this influx. Note that I have no idea the estimated percentages for their NHL right now and how much people are traveling in for it. It seems the attendance is great though. But still with so many games in a season for all other sports it just seems each game is less of an event or spectacle than it is for football. I would just guess it's not a huge factor for hockey for a random Tuesday night regular season game, but yes I don't know. Again though, I just meant relative to NFL. Still can't believe UW hasn't played a game at UNLV in forever now. Feel like they should have a regular 2 for 1 with them every few years with a few off years in between. Especially now with the new stadium coming in LV.
  19. Still think Tor should've won Executive of the Year though. Granted, this is voted after regular season but still. Look what he picked up for last season and how little he gave up. And past moves like Siakam and FVV paying off.
  20. I personally don't think MLB would work well in Vegas either. Games too long, too hot in the summer, not an 'event' to travel to for road fans, stadium likely would be far off strip, now have NFL/NHL already, etc. My guess is that it would make sense to see how NFL/NHL do for a few years before investing more unless it's for the NBA (which is perfect for Vegas and blowing up in general in popularity). NHL is killing it so far but it's skewed by the team immediately being good, what happens if they're not? But, that doesn't mean an investor isn't trying to do it. As noted, there is two teams currently in desperate need of a new home. And of course VEgas has never been a spot that gets shy about going big. Still, i think you'd be an idiot to build an MLB stadium without a team committed to use it. It's not like when they built TMobile Arena, even if they failed on NHL/NBA the building would still be used for so much else. Initially the rumor was the Rio is being destroyed and the plan was using that for the stadium. Within the last few months I saw that rumor I think got squashed (though if I remember Rio going away is still happening) but there was now a different site. I don't recall the details on that one but one would think if people are exploring this they've at least had some back channel talks with TB/OAK about moving. That said, I likely used poor phrasing on my initial post on the topic implying it was more 'done' than it is.
  21. Snowbirds line is great, well done. Being a somewhat Vegas regular/insider it's my understanding that an MLB stadium is as good as happening in Vegas. OAK is the easier and more logical move but someone is gonna end up there and TB seems more urgent of a situation. It would just get weird trying to move around divisions. One of the TX teams would likely have to move to the central and Cleveland or Det to the East. Messes up old rivalries quite a bit.
  22. Presumably they'll waive Leuer(if can't find another trade) which would bring this years savings down closer to 10 mil, which could be important for resigning everyone else. Would obviously slightly lower next years savings though too. I'm sure they're exploring using his contract in trades right now too.
  23. Not a particular fan myself. I initially thought he could be protection if we lost Lopez and Mirotic. A stretch 4/5 who can help Giannis. That was based on my memory of him as a Badger. He has not been a good 3 point shooter in the NBA. I saw the debate about draft picks vs cap room....I'm with Patick on this and OTB said he'd be in favor of it if we could get someone of value for Snell and a 1st. Instead, we got just...a guy. Maybe if we extend him, he rediscovers his 3 point shot that he had in college and to be fair, he only attempted more than 1 per game three times in his career and he shot 47 pct, 38 pct and then 29 pct roughly and he's a good rebounder. He's also played on teams that don't exactly use their bigs in that type of role in Memphis and then in Detroit. Snell though...he's underrated. He's a guy who can defend the guards and forwards, he's long and he's a 40 pct 3 point shooter during his time in Milwaukee. I feel like if you're going to make this deal, you should be getting back someone better than John Leuer and you should at least get a 2nd rounder coming back. But I'm sure I'll be in the minority on this one. Pretty clear sign that you have an agreement in place with at least Middleton though. I can't see moving Snell, the guy who would be best suited to take over for Middleton(though obviously not as good) to dump salary if you don't have a deal in place with Midds. Yes your value on Snell is drastically off from the league. He was for sure one that you had to attach something in order to dump his salary, not one to get anything back. Granted, he's probably gotten too bashed here as he is a competent NBA rotation player and at this point we all view him so badly that we think he's unplayable (you know, ignoring that he just did play a bunch for a 60 win team). But at 11ish per year it's way out of line and why you had to attach an asset to move him.
  24. Dubon could. I wouldn't totally rule out an Arcia demotion again at some point if he doesn't get it going. Well that's a different discussion than what we were having here in regards to getting Hiura back up. Still, yea I don't foresee them giving up Perez's massive flexibility this year. Could for sure see it in the offseason as he gets more expensive though
  25. Yea frankly I'm shocked they're in 1st. I guess the positive spin is that if they ever do get their head on straight they should win the division easily.
