  1. You just have to take it for what it is, a best estimate. To act like its possible to predict this stuff 100% is just foolish. They've accumulated years and years of data, created the best formulas they can and this is the best estimates they can make. I'm sure they'll continue tweaking as best they can, but just take it for what it is.
  2. Frankly unless Moose really does need to miss some days I don't see the rush to bring Shaw back. Sure you owe him another crack since he's been so good here, but he really didn't do well in AAA so far so no need to rush. I don't think it would be insulting at all to tell him to take another week down there and he'll be back for Houston when we need a DH. Buys another week to see what else happens with the team/roster/injuries.
  3. Right. But then we have to limit expectations a bit in both sports and be content in the 2-3rd tier of teams like we are now, with the occasional 'stars aligning' year in either sport that could make a serious run at a title (the two FF teams, and 2017/2011 football). And can't stop our feet and complain about the coaches not recruiting better when they essentially have one hand tied behind their backs due to academics and not paying players (at least not nearly the level of the top programs), plus of course cold weather.
  4. They combatted a bit by going back to the 15 day IL. I think that starts again next year, maybe it's two years. Of course doesn't fully stop it or anything, but makes it tougher. And just not as easy to fabricate DL stints around off days basically to get an extra roster spot while skipping someone in the rotation.
  5. Well I guess I'd hope for Shaw to get his ABs at 1B if that's the case and let Hiura keep playing, assuming Moose is playing. Though if Shaw is up he might as well get regular ABs to give him the best chance at getting going. Really seems to me the 1B logjam is the roster issue to me. BAsically saying you'd want Huira playing everyday and Shaw playing vs all righties. So really not a lot of ABs left for Thames/Jesus until you get the DH, and even then Gamel is better. Slight nitpick, yes Hous has small LF but still wouldn't need to force Thames out there since you're allowed a DH in Houston. Barring some injury needs of course.
  6. Van Vleet was probably their second best player last night and plays great D on Steph.
  7. No, not worried, because if he does go down, it likely won't be for long. He's made a very nice first impression in his first taste of the Show. Well yea I'm not worried about him overall. I meant just worried about him going down, just that it's going to happen. As in, he's doing well so I'd prefer him just to stay up.
  8. Aren't we still kind of worried about what they're going to do here with Shaw already said to be coming back? It seems Moose does not need a IL sting so I'm still worried Huira is going back down. This is also relevant for fantasy this week
  9. Lasry wanted to stick to the plan which was promoting Zanick to GM. They hired him from Utah to take over for Hammond. Hammond left and he just wanted to stick to the plan. The other guys put up a stink about and they couldn't agree, thus Horst. My recollection of the situation was that Edens was the one making a fight. In hindsight it seems like a good call as Horst has done well, but note Zanick is now GM in Utah so he's probably good too. But really I don't think it's on Lasry for having the opinion of "guys we had a plan a year ago, why are we not sticking to the plan". Plus it's basically stabbing Zanick in the back after you lied to him. Long story short, it seems Edens has been the more disruptive owner thus far, plus he's had some personal life issues publicly as well.
  10. I was going to say the same as Harvey. I remember the rumors/speculation is that we were holding out for him and they wouldn't include and that's basically why it fell through. Of course we'd need High Heat to verify.
  11. If this were the NBA, yea. Baseball is flukiest of all sports come postseason (besides NCAA bball). Get in and anything can happen. There's really no reason LAD hasn't won a WS in this recent Kershaw era run other than 'that's baseball'. Same with the run the Nats just had, yet no WS for either. Of course I'd pick them right now. But remember Ryu always gets hurt and Kershaw has been hurt a ton lately. They are so deep overall in pitching and hitting though, they're a really great team. But anything can happen in baseball.
  12. If Shaw doesn't rebound they essentially have nothing else to play at 3B next year without Moose. You're going to have pay for someone. I could see the logic of working something out now. Even if Shaw were to rebound you'd still be able to let Thames go and play one at 1B. So the logjam wouldn't exist anymore. That number said here seems a bit much, but probably no harm in talking to them and seeing what can be done.
  13. Yea that was said for him too but some have refuted. Stone actually might not have had time to retake now that I think about it, or he had retaken already and that was it. He committed around March Madness, so obviously very late. So yea that was probably it for him, no more time. But that was the story on him, he got that score back and the committed to MD. I wanna so Bo's daughter at some point verified it on twitter.
  14. FVV is quicker than Brogdon because he's like 5 inches shorter, if not more.
  15. Generally agree. And also think with home court and no KD that we'd have beat GSW as well. But, I'd also say Tor winning would also kind of justify our loss to them in a way, if that makes sense. So that's kind of good for the Bucks. As in, most of the reaction towards the Bucks is kind of around us blowing it, we're better, you know kind of blaming them and making it like this shows they can't win it all with this team and were fake contenders, etc. Well, if the team they were up 2-0 and went to the wire in 3/4 losses vs goes onto win the Title it shows Tor was just really good (not that we suck as the narrative is now). Hope that make sense. Going into this I've been saying Tor has a way better chance than people think as i thought they showed themselves to be really good to me, deep team, good D, Kawhi, no KD, etc. I'd say it's tough not to root for the forgotten market underdog who's done everything right in building their team and has never won before over the megateam who's kind of started acting cocky the last few years. But, it's probably best for the Bucks for Tor to lose so it makes it easier for KAwhi to leave. Plus, GSW winning without KD would also make it much easier if not locks in that KD will leave. Thus, Bucks top two contenders lose their best player.
  16. My best memory on Stone is that he was a silent commit to UW pending his academics, which I think was ACT score. He got the results that weren't good enough and said F it, didn't want to take it again and went to MD. How true that is, who knows, take it for the internet rumor mill that it is. And yes, he was caught in the scandal taking money from MD/UA as well. Which was reported at the time along with a rumor his dad was given a 'consulting' job from Under Armour. I don't know if that was ever substantiated, but it's basically what Zion's mom just got caught doing so....
  17. Yea I'm by no means sure either. The way articles are written it implies it went beyond rather than over but still not 100% sure, and the pics I saw seemed the opposite. But yea I don't see the harm in putting it further down the line.
  18. The last time this was argued I posted articles after LBJ, Melo and others lost weight and their comments on it after and how much it helped with speed, stamina, wear and tear on their knees, etc. And it's not like anyone would've called them overweight before either.
  19. The UW thing isn't not only that they have a foreign language but that they have 3 years. And they don't flex off it. I do think most if not all school do require some foreign language, but not 3 years. That third year seems to be the real killer. Note, I'm talking for athletes here. As just said Michigan is viewed as good or better of an overall school than UW, but for athletes make these exceptions to basically allow minimum qualifiers. UW is flexible for athletes vs non athletes (just think of the big nationwide scandal with the celebrities) but not as much as the Michigans, OSUs, SEC. It's kind of like UW, Stanford, Vandy, NW, and a few others that still keep a higher standard. And for some reason UW has a stick up their A about this foreign language. This is the first thing UW should do to help recruiting, get rid of the foreign language extra year. And there was one other core class thing they demand that others don't, I don't remember what it was though. Just get rid of those is a good step, even if you still want to hold higher ACT and GPA standards. I also agree that for such a supposed progressive and liberal school it is kind of a racist policy in a way. That said, I don't think this is nearly as big a problem to basketball as it is for football. Just purely based on the numbers of how many kids are needed in football.
  20. I do believe it is extended for them, but I could see it going even further down the line. In Japan it extends around the whole line, I believe. From what I could see, this went over the net. But IDK for sure, just basing off how far back it was and from when I stopped it seemed they were still close enough to Home to be behind. So, they'd need to make it even higher to stop this. They have to be 8-10 ft high as it is. This probably comes off like I'm anti-net. Which I'm not, when I sit behind it blends in immediately for me. Just saying, they did do the new precautions and you're never gonna eliminate the possibility to 0 when a hard object is flying into a crowd of thousands. Some fluke bad luck stuff will occur.
  21. You're not wrong that streaks happen. And he just went through a hot one so regression is likely. But he's a 38-40% shooter, which is obviously good. Going 14/17 is obviously ridiculous but take away the couple slop bounce ones he got lucky on at 12/17 isn't that crazy off a hot streak for a good shooter who's usually shooting wide open. The folks acting like he was terrible based on a few bad games previously were the ones overreacting. Good coach trusted a good shooter
  22. Pretty much a perfect summary by Plush. They have to make some tweaks, can't just bury their head in the sand. Also, Bo was a master of getting the most out of guys, development, Xs and Os, all that stuff. Generally speaking Gard looks fine in that regard, but fine isn't the same as one of the best ever like Bo. So chances are you're going to need some more talent to make up for that difference. Plus, other schools have caught up to some of the philosophies/strategies that Bo was way out in front of as his points of emphasis so some of that margin is now gone too.
  23. From what I could tell the Astros do have the extra netting that so many teams put in recent years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the first thing I thought of and stopped a replay and it sure looks like it's there to me. With that is going to be extremely rare now since it's no longer a straight liner and people affected are further away so folks have more time to react plus it's just a weaker hit ball
  24. Admissions standards are a legit issue. But generally overblown and I think it should be way less of an issue for the 50-150 area of recruits as a lot of them should be realistic that they're going to be in college for 3-4 years so need to factor in academics and the value of a degree. Top guys of course are frequently just going to have no interest in it. That said, most kids coming from any public inner city background just are very rarely going to have the ridiculous foreign language credits UW requires (due to going to poor schools) and why would they bother getting it when no other schools ask for it. Basically that whole faction of kids is out for UW. And really any kid that gets to his junior/senior year of HS and hasn't done the extra foreign language just out of not knowing the would need or just not liking it (totally fair, I was the same way) are out for UW. And at that point it's probably too late to get it and again why bother when your other 15 scholarship offers don't require it. So do the math on those 50-150 kids of first narrowing to midwest, then take out academics/foreign language issues and how many are really left to fight for? Specific to the last few years though: Hausers, Halliburton, McCabe all fall right in that category and they didn't get any. Probably a few more if I dug instead of just memory.
  25. Generally agree, localness is huge in football but not in bball among the top top guys. For football there's data out there about how rare it is to leave a few hundred mile radius of home. Basically within the region or within a state or two away. Which is why it's very difficult for UW to get elite speed guys at WR/CB and why the SEC schools are at such an advantage (besides rampant paying players and no academic standards) in that the best size/speed combinations are more frequently local to that region. Basketball is just different. For the top guys it's a national recruitment from the beginning since the kids travel the whole country all summer. Get to that #50-150 area that UW should be focusing on and region is very important though. As you see, we basically only get guys from WI/MN and occasionally as far as Ohio. Once you get further down the list I'd guess this holds true for most non elite schools in bball and is similar to football in that kids stay within a state or two away.
