  1. Huge hit by Domingo. Let's put this one on cruise control for once tonight...
  2. Almost sure it was the Marlins who beat the Mets on the last weekend and game in 2008 to get us in the WC. Hope they keep doing good work for us the next couple days in return for the good treatment we gave them in MKE during the hurricane, #karma
  3. IDK, I feel like maybe the Pirates and Rays are thinking they should have went all in and to get the last piece or two to get over the hump rather than holding onto all their youth and prospects. And the Royals are probably happy they made a few 'go for it' trades that helped them win. I'm not saying that route is the only way. I'd more say that each situation is different and needs to be assessed as it arises rather than stick to one mindset no matter what. In the Brewers case, they knew they had a WS level lineup for those years and their assessment was that they had no pitching coming so they only way to get value or a deep run out of all those hitting prospects that did pan out was to find a way to add ready made pitching. If Gallardo was a notch better than he was, Jeffress panned out as a legit starter, Estrada was better than he'd shown up to that point, Jorge DeLaRosa lived up to the potential. Or whatever that would have led to having deep pitching instead of the nothing they had it would have altered their thinking a bit and likely gone a different way. A Tampa always knew they had young pitching in the works behind the guys at the big league level, so thought they could ride it out a longer time so did it their way. You can go through each team's choices and see the logic.
  4. Yea I would expect them to pitch but with limited counts. Feel like this is the best way to stay sharp. Unless of course there is some kind of injury they're nursing, then maybe skip them.
  5. In 2008, you're adding CC to go with at the time a dominant Sheets. You're looking at going into a playoff series with those two starting 4 or 5 of the games in a 7 game series. You had a legit shot vs anyone, but of course Sheets got hurt and it ruined it. And of course they had a very good lineup with two MVP level hitters in Prince and Braun. Also, the WC wasn't a one game playoff back then.
  6. So the Cards likely would not have Molina, David Freese, or Jon Jay. I'd have to admit we would actually have a chance of winning then... but I'm sure someone else will step up as a Brewer killer
  7. Win today and a Col loss and they're 1/2 game out with 5 to go. Sitting really well if that happens tonight. Just win
  8. If they're already looking at this stuff immediately then they need to just speed things up. The average must about just under 90 seconds for the replay itself (forgetting the 20-30 before and whatever aftermath), some go a bit shorter, some longer. Tack on the 30ish seconds before it and you should have been able to watch everything 20 times. Then of course tack on the 30ish seconds blown another 10 times throughout the game to him and haw. IDK, I'm in the camp of dedicate one person to each game and do it like CFB. Find a way to make it so no putzing around delaying the game. And maybe give each team 2 challenges they can use if for some reason the booth doesn't stop, which should almost never happen or be needed.
  9. I agree on that problem. But that's already a problem with the current system, they're stopping over and over all games while the manager stands on the step waiting for word from his people. And if there is someone dedicated to every game like in CFB, he's already looking at every play immediately. Most would be done very quickly. Whereas now, the guys don't even look at it until requested. So you have somewhere in the 30-45 seconds gone before they start looking at it. This way the guy is looking right away, and would have like 30 seconds to buzz. Most times he'll already know by then or just after. Note that I'm just spitballing here and haven't really looked into this much. Just thinking as I go and of my general thought the last couple years that CFB has the best way. I suppose another tweak to the current system would be to not allow someone in the clubhouse (or whoever is watching and telling them now) to tell the manager what to do. So you have your challenges on gut and what yours or basecoaches eyes see. Hopefully would get rid of the standing around waiting thing that goes on
  10. This, to me, is just the most obvious way to do replay in all sports. Giving teams a limited amount of challenges means any mistakes after those challenges are gone go uncorrected which defeats the whole purpose of having replay. Since a lot of people seem to have an issue with pace of play, this would add even more time to a game. Every close play would result in a team slowing things down to see if the call is getting reversed or not. That is my biggest complain as it is, the stand around for 15-30 seconds over and over all game while their guy looks at it. Then you still have to wait for the booth to look at it. I've been saying for a long time that all sports should go the CFB route and just have a guy buzz down to give them a quick second to look at it. Rather than the stops you see in the NFL/NBA and then the on field ref has to go look. The decision could be done before those guys would even get to the monitor if done properly. To try and ensure nothing gets dragged out you could have something in like if the booth doesn't call for the stoppage in X amount of seconds then it can't be stopped. So the teams would have no incentive to kill time.
  11. When Cubs are beating us 3 of 4 in our ballpark overtaken by Cubs fans, you bet I'm going to blame our supposedly best fans for literally selling out to them. I have a big beef with Cubs fans sitting in the park's best seat, closest to home and the field. Cubs fans might be the worst lot of human beings around, but no one sells out like a Brewers season ticket holder. I hope you went to all 4 games. All the 'solutions' mentioned here don't really solve anything. They'll just go up on the secondary market or it will cost the Brewers money, which isn't an option either. All the team can do is win, which will generate more fans for themselves and make the Cubs less enthusiastic.
  12. C'mon don't go down this whiny route. Think about it, these guys travel all over the country. It's only logical that if they have guests for a game in whatever city that they're going to be fans of the local team. IN this case both teams are local. Especially since there really wasn't anything to complain about other than balls and strikes which can be done every game. Perhaps their guests she told to where neutral clothes but I'm sure this happens all the time
  13. As long as our guys take enough steroids. That's the only way anyone ever hits off him. How awful was lackey yelling at the ump all game? The guy is a joke at this point, not surprising for a guy who's last 3 team are Cards, sawx, and Cubs. If I was an ump I'd call every borderline against him, what's pathetic is the whining works and umps actually give him calls. Looking like 2 out after tonight. That is not insurmountable just gotta win tomorrow
  14. Netting doesn't bother me at all behind the plate. Eventually you don't even realize it's there. It's as inevitable as the DH, just do both already. I'm also not a fan of blaming people for being distracted as if it's their fault. You are constantly being distracted ,there is no way to have your eyes right there for 260 pitches in a row. Food vendors beer vendors, getting up to let people through, passing money to help the vendors, events on the board, checking stats and score on your phone, interacting with friends about the game on your phone. Then add in that even if you're paying attention and see it coming you just might not be quick enough to do anything about it. How many here know people who've been smoked in the face playing softball? This is way faster and unexpected.
  15. Nah nothing to complain about. Nothing close to that one villar had at third vs the cards a few weeks ago that was blatant
  16. North burbs people have an easier drive to mke than wrigley too. It is what it is, nothing can be done while the Cubs are good. The only example I remember is when we were good and the Cubs were tanking I was at games at wrigley that were majority Brewers fans. It happened. We bought like 8th row behind a dugout for like 30 bucks too. Granted, most of these diehards weren't even fans 3 years ago so it's a bit different now
  17. Sogard grinds out at bats really well, takes his walks, and plays solid defense at SS. He doesn't have the flashy ability of Arcia, but he's far more consistent. I don't necessarily agree with Arcia sitting everyday, that's probably Counsel's reasoning though. Sogard's line in September: .194/.325/.245 Not sure that screams needing to be in the lineup and leading off every game. Since Sept 12 when he's been basically playing every day Sogard is 6/21 with 9 walks. 286 BA with a 500 OBP. If I'm adding stuff up right off baseball ref. I think that might have a part of it ETA: just got the time to check Arcia. To my surprise he's 11/31 with 5 BBs since Sept 9. So he has been doing well also. Tough call at this point so I guess he's just playing the L/R splits.
  18. I see both sides of the debate of course, there's logic both ways. That said, I'm assuming the tipping point for CC is that generally speaking the offense has been the problem so he's doing whatever he can to up their chances of scoring more runs. And it's not like Sogard is bad on D, it's not a Villar playing CF type thing. And off the top of my head/eyetest without looking it up it seems Arcia really hasn't hit well since that hot streak he had around early August. So I get it, hope it works and they get a W. Haven't looked up Sogard either, but after the awfulness when he first came off the DL it seems he's been having good ABs, getting walks and making good contact of late. We'll see, would love a nice easy win tonight. Also, anyone who went last night have any feedback on dealing with Cubs fans? I went and it was was majority Cubs around me. Almost all of them just cheered for their team and kept to themselves, just like you'd want. Other than of course you have to have a couple dudes who have to stand up and loudly boo in brewers fans faces whenever Braun is up just to try and start an argument. In their defense, most have probably only been fans for 3 years so they don't realize they had Sosa. Still, not much of an issue. Some good natured chanting back and forth, that's what sports is all about.
  19. Braun's so competitive you'd think he'd want everything to be out there. He has ok numbers vs lackey but nothing crazy so that shouldn't factor much in. Something around 300 with 3 HRs. Hopefully he's got all his tests done for the year and popped a gummy last night and is recharged today.
  20. I agree with bill. I could see the argument for not pitching Swarzak Wednesday because of 2 inning outing before and knowing Knebel wouldn't be available Thursday so he'd be the 'closer' Thursday. That said, that's not what cost them this game. They didn't lose the game because Jeffress was in, he did his job. They scored on two basically IF hit dribbler types one off a pitch the guy dug out of the ground, just horrible luck.
  21. I've been saying for months that I can't believe Drake was still on the team. I know they didn't have much of a choice last night or anything. Just that they didn't figure it out months ago that this guy can't hack it and found someone else somehow to be worthy of that spot. It is what it is I guess, obviously they did add two guys in Jeffress and Swarzak, just hard to believe we're needing to use Drake in close games.
  22. I actually thought Oregon ST was a good fit for GA. Spread offenses all over the PAC 10, no academic standards and very used to bringing in transfer and JC kids, his west coast recruiting ties. But the results have been horrible. They showed signs of life in winning their last two games last year including beating Oregon. But they look like a real chance to not win a game vs an FBS program this year. Yet somehow he got an extension last offseason (2 years into a 6 year deal) likely giving him at least a couple more years of job security. How bad are the negotiators at these schools? As much as people pick on him here, if not for him we would not have had Aranda to bring in the D that has made UW good the last few years while the offense regressed.
  23. I hope PIT continues to make bad baserunning decisions like they've done several times this series. Anything helps. Let's get an early lead and cruise guys
  24. I've been thinking his swing lately has reminded me of Jim Thome's pure upper cut HR or bust type swing. IDK if it just didn't occur to me earlier or if anything has changed. I'm probably crazy, but that's just been in my head lately. He's still done fine, hits the ball hard a lot, just not as good as earlier in the year. I also get the vibe he's fairly banged up at this point. but overall he's the least of our problems.
  25. If we can win tonight and Cubs lose they'll actually be sitting in a fairly good spot. Cmon, let us catch a break today
