  1. Generally agree, especially since they wouldn't even get a home game. But it is what it is, it's better than nothing and it would be cool to knock of Greinke in that playoff game. Then who knows, the Dodgers have been finishing poorly so anything is possible. Baseball is the sport where the worst team has the best chance of actually winning it all (that phrasing sounds bad, can't think of a better way to put it but you know what I mean) compared to the other major sports. If you're in, anything can happen. Caught a bit of this game with the volume on when Sandoval was hitting and it's COL announcers. They have his month by month averages up. And May is .750 because he only played 1 game and went 3/4, obviously every month is awful. Announcers had some pretty sarcastic picking on how bad Sandoval but how much he dominated May, moderately funny stuff for baseball announcers.
  2. Braun historically crushes LHP. Almost never going to sit him vs a lefty. Eyetest this year without looking it up it doesn't seem as drastic, but some years the numbers have been absurd vs lefties.
  3. I saw something earlier that since some date in late July, something like the 28th the Reds are the 3rd best record in the NL (hope I'm not remembering wrong that it's 3rd best in NL central). I'll see if I can find it. Here it is: "Since a loss on July 29, the Reds are 25-22 -- and that's only four games worse than the Cubs and Nationals for the best record in the NL in that time frame." I'm guessing there's a bunch of teams clumped right there and that might not technically mean 3rd in the NL the way I remembered, but still.
  4. Rox game is on MLB network now for anyone interested. Giants start with a man on 3rd 1 out. We could be tied for the WC tonight if Giants can win this
  5. Probably the most realistic 'solution' to this is more revenue sharing as opposed to a cap. Some issues with cap system were just pointed and just overall I think we all know it's not realistic to get the big markets to agree to it. They've obviously tweaked towards more revenue sharing and competitive balance at every new CBA. Just have to keep going that direction little by little, it's really all that can be done. So maybe the ~120mil we see as the Brewers breakeven points goes up enough to match inflation but to nudge closer and closer to the top teams. Next thing you know you can afford 140-150 mil and an 11mil albatross isn't a killer anymore
  6. I was there this weekend and did notice they still have the Wild Card pennant thing on the left field wall.
  7. At this point I'd think even most adamant Counsell bashers have to admit the overall handling of the pitching staff through this stretch has been great, the results speak for themselves.
  8. Call me crazy but I was never a big fan of the last few years of relief pitching strategy of walking the first guy you face like 95% of the time. Glad that's not the case anymore.
  9. Cleveland just won 22 straight. I don't see any reason the Brewers can't win 25 straight right now and win the WS. 11 to go in regular season and 11 in playoffs to go with the 3 in a row now. Maybe they might lose one or two at the end of the regular season I suppose to set up the rotation though to break the streak.
  10. Proof that a bad arm behind the plate doesn't lose games. Especially in today's game, teams don't run like they used to. Nah, I was told that every single and walk was an automatic double
  11. Tyson Ross is now a year and a half removed from thoracic outlet surgery. After he came off the DL for blisters his fastball was up, but ended up getting released. Not sure what the success rate is after that type of surgery, but from what I know it's better than rotator cuff/labrum surgery and just takes a while. An injury/performance risk for sure, but he won't command more than a one year deal and it won't be for much. Will be 31 next year. I know what you're getting at, but quality starting pitching under the age of 30 without injury or performance risk is going to have an awful price tag. Exactly, I didn't spend a ton of time on it but yea the options seem pretty limited. The names thrown out here by you and some others above seem like reasonable things as 1 year stop gaps. That might have to be the route because of what you just said. And really it's just a little insurance for Jimmy, by midseason or next year you'd think we'd have enough guys. It might just be that there is no one that makes sense and they just have to roll with what they have, which isn't the worst move or anything. Better than signing someone and forcing yourself to play him even if he sucks
  12. But that's the issue. It isn't a binary equation. I think Phillips had some great AB's today and as a manager I would have given him his normal AB. But there are scenarios where bunting is a fine thing to do Anyhow - Nice Win!! Yup, and honestly this is the time when it most makes sense. Where one run is all you need. To me it went too far when you tried to squeeze. You have the IF in and a guy who's been having good ABs. Hey it worked out so I'm happy. But during that massive cold spell you just saw a ton of folks online or twitter saying the problem was the lack of bunting, as if that would've fixed the RISP issues or something
  13. Every game I get nervous thinking how due they are for Knebel or Swarzak to blow one of these and they just keep on grooving. That 9th was impressive. Let's go Giants
  14. I think the Giants have Cueto going tonight. Hopefully he's on his game. I think Matt Moore tomorrow too. I know he's had a rough year and all, but at least we know he has the talent in him to have a good game. Better than some no name jabroni, unless he's pitching vs MKE I suppose
  15. Yea I hope the You Need to Bunt crowd paid attention tonight.
  16. Remember when TB scored I think only 3 runs vs us a few weeks ago in 3 games? Goes around comes around I guess. But yea very frustrating we've done everything we could reasonably expect since the cinncy sweep and it's not getting us there. Just keep winning, it's all you can do
  17. Yup, just a few months ago instead of bickering about the backup C it was bickering over who was the least bad option in the 7th and 8th innings and how big of a moron the manager was for whichever guy he chose. He's stabilized everything. Huge pickup for next to nothing. Just one Badger Mutual Insurance Run would be huge. anyway to get one over
  18. IF you have it up you could add up the ERA pretty quick too. the guy just hit 385 last month. Clearly slumping now and I agree to play Pina more but the manager's not a moron for trying to get him kickstarted again with how well he was just doing, rather than just benching people after a few bad games. And again we have no knowledge if there's a reason they want to be limiting Pina now due to some nagging injury or something... Way to go Swarzak, what a pickup he's been.
  19. Yea probably too strong of a word to use 'off limits'. Maybe, preference not to use would have been better. Who knows, maybe it was Swarzak and Knebel sharing these two innings was the plan the whole time.
  20. First two outs happened so fast I didn't even notice it was Swarzak instead of Hughes. With only 9 pitches you'd think he goes two, or at least until he gives up a hit. I wonder what the plan would be for the 8th otherwise, or if he'd needed like 19 pitches to get through the 7th. I would guess Hader would be off limits today to be ready to go 2 innings tomorrow and having pitched last night.
  21. I've only been to the two Chicago and the two in MKE. Kind of surprising when I think about it, I've been to almost every big ten football. Sox is just the definition of blah and the area sucks. Wrigley is a dump but you really can't beat the Wrigleyville area and energy, kind of a college football vibe to it which I love. I actually like just going down there for games and not actually going to the game. Ones I've liked from TV and what I hear, so kind of on my to do list would be PNC, San Diego, Colorado, San Fran, and the Dodgers. I suppose Cleveland too for the stadium but I hear their fans are awful.
  22. The two SBs one was to MArte who would steal 40+ in a normal year and an 80% clip, so not easy for anyone and the second he literally had no chance no matter who was catching. It hasn't been a big deal, yet, hope I don't jinx. I get it, but yesterday is blasphemy for Santana, couple days ago it was that Sogard was in over Arcia. I know it's crunch time and I'd prefer rolling with your best everyday but this is clearly their strategy to give tons of rest, play platoons as much as possible, keep everyone fresh and involved, and seemingly it's working so I'm just trying to support the team. Wow what an AB by Phillips. Let's cash this in. I think Villar is 2/2 in the last couple games of pinch hitting. 3 in a row is asking a lot but lets do it. Thames is on fire and hasn't had any luck tonight so a bit due there
  23. Chase, you the real MVP. Man, he's doing great and sure seems like his catcher is calling a great game
  24. That guy didn't even think of testing Phillips after last night
  25. Well discussion of the lineup is definitely part of the game. Sorry for defending the manager of our massively overachieving team and just not thinking that every little thing is a huge deal. Yea this is crunch time hear. one run at most please. Heart of the order too
