  1. AL is also really weak after Houston. NL you're facing two monsters in WAS and LAD come playoff time, big difference. That said, this type of deal would have been something up our alley imo if we hadn't pooped the bed since the ASB since it's relatively low cost of prospects.
  2. I said aroundthe break that the 10 games right after (plus the Cubs series before the deadline) would be critical on a decision. If we'd have won 7 or 8 vs the blah competition while the Cubs continued to struggle and won like 4. Then all of a sudden you have a 8-9 game lead with 60ish games to go, in that case you kind of have to go for it. Or if the opposite happened, then it would be a good reason to just ride it out, maybe add some marginal bullpen help at most. It's actually gone even worse than that so far so I think it should make their decision easy to not go overboard unless somehow this week goes incredibly our way.
  3. Exactly. Guerra has shown life the last two so have to give him a few more and see how it goes. At the same time Woodruff gets some practice in and makes sure to have the stamina built up to give normal 90-105 pitch games.
  4. So far the starters have been holding their own just fine. Might as well ride Suter as long as it lasts. Woodruff to AAA to sharpen back up after the days off seems to make sense, have him ready for injury or if someone starts slipping badly. I feel like I'd rather keep him ready to start than putting him in the pen right now.
  5. Cubs down 3-1. We'll have our solo first place stranglehold back in about 45 mins if this holds up.
  6. I actually feel like Verlander's contract makes him a liability. If we took that on along with Wilson it should reduce what we have to give them, at least that's how I'd view it. He's owed a ton of money and has been bad this year, and I think is 34. That said, our financial situation would allow such a risk and I'd rather pay $$ than prospects.
  7. Offense just seems tight or anxious all of a sudden. Just need to get a W tomorrow and get back to loose fun way they'd been playing all year. The pressure is still on the Cubs, not them, get back to playing with that attitude. ETA: Also, I think MKE has 3 more wins than the Cubs.
  8. Win 2/3 at Philly and they're fine. Win all three and I'm back to confident in the WS. Just need to get a W out of the way and get back to playing loose and fun again.
  9. That's the thing really, the team has such an inconsistent day to tday lineup with all the depth it has that it's probably not worth fretting over it too much. There's always one or two people in or out most days. Just get in there and start mashing again like they were just a few days ago
  10. Win today and get 2/3 from Phi and we're fine.
  11. I've been thinking for a bit with Thames struggles of late to shake it up with him and go with Sogard/Villar Santana Shaw Braun Thames/Aguilar in pretty much platoon Brinson Catcher Arcia Tempting to put Arcia at leadoff but also don't want to rock the boat yet. Let him keep doing his thing at the bottom for now and see how Sogard/Villar do for a couple weeks. Then maybe flip flop them.
  12. I mean, we've gone 2-3 since the break. Not ideal or anything of course but really it's only 1 game off what you'd realistically expect. Thing is if the Cubs decide to win at some ridiculous clip like they've done so far there's really nothing we can do about it. And that's not some indictment on our team, these 3 games have all been winnable and could have easily gone either way. It's not like there's some massive signs that the team has lost it or anything. Key hit here or there, that's just the nature of baseball. Keep plugging away and play the 2nd half at .500 or better ball and make the Cubs play out of their mind to beat us, it's all they can do. It all starts today, get a W today to stop the bleeding and move on.
  13. Yea it's baseball, it's part of the 162 game season and can't overreact so much game by game. We're a slightly above .500 type team. you're going to lose games and sometimes they're going to be 2 or 3 in a row. Even the best teams do it, let alone slightly above .500 teams. And it's not like they were some embarrassing losses, few breaks here or there and each game goes our way. They've had this happen multiple times this year and have bounced back every time, probably the thing I've liked most about them all year. So resilient, not only game to game, but within so many games themselves. Of course this could be the start of the regression but I don't how people are going to enjoy the season if they think every loss or two means the team is done.
  14. Seems like Oakland just got less for two solid guys. Heck I'd have just beat that offer and been done with it, roll the dice and hope they hold on.
  15. Good post, FTC. My guess is that the price on starters is just going to end up being too high to make it worth the risk given the situation you outlined. But the opportunity that fell in their lap this year shouldn't be ignored, so hopefully they can find some reasonable bullpen options for relatively little prospect cost. Someone like Neshek who shouldn't be too pricey. And I've kind of been enamored with David Robertson, with his bloated salary I'd be curious if they get any significant prospects back for him as long as the team is willing to eat all the salary, and the Brewers are prime position to eat that salary for a proven reliable guy like him. Toss them one OF prospect that's floundered a bit and one lower level lottery ticket and hope it's enough.
  16. One would think Vogt is at least going to hit the concussion list so Bandy will be back up. And the BP is consistently overworked so I can't see them thinning it anymore. So I'd think Rivera goes down for Guerra, heck I forgot he was on the roster until the post above. I guess we'll know soon enough. Then I'd think Phillips goes down when Sogard is back in a few days.
  17. Jeez people, relax. They lost two in a row, both close games, not blowouts. And we're actling like the sky is falling. Of course this could be the start of the expected regression, or it could just be two losses in a row which happens to every team no matter how good they are. People said the same thing after those Dodgers blown games and some other heartbreaking losses, and so far this team has come back with a vengeance every time. Hope that continues starting Tuesday
  18. I think I'd have a stance of only one P prospect or I'm walking. IMO, what makes us able to pull a trade off is that we have so many OF and middle IF prospects, so trade from the glut. We do not have an abundance of pitching, so can only give up one there. I think Phillips is an obvious choice due to the numbers game at the big league level and Santana doing so well. That's a reasonable starting point to me (one P and Phillips), then find a position player at the lower levels that works.
  19. Agree. Has there been any news recently on when he's supposed to be back? ETA: recent update: http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2017/07/16/notes-making-no-progress-ankle-eric-sogard-given-injection/478187001/
  20. Phillips, Ray, Ortiz. Too much? Logic being Phillips is essentially blocked. Ray is several levels below and years away but still has some shine in spite of his rough year. And you have to give up a P prospect. I think I'd rather give Ortiz than Hader, Woodruff or Burnes.
  21. That's what i'm getting at. I of course agree they're still set up better than MKE, no doubt. Just not near the unbeatable juggernaut we feared 1-2 years ago.
  22. I'm not saying they're going to suck. Just that it's not nearly as imposing as it looked a year or two ago. They have a lot of stuff to figure out in spite of their financial advantages and Bryzzo. A year ago we all would've been willing to write off having any chance to beat them for 3-4 years and they'd be clear NL powerhouse for those years, that's far from the case right now.
  23. I suppose but again that's nothing they can bank on right now. Yankees will be all over him and Machado as well. If I'm Harper I probably go to NYY for the most money and launch 55 ding dongs a year in that RF launching pad. I know they have their advantages, I'm just saying that so far all their mega prospects have pretty much flopped offensively besides Bryant and now their farm is garbage. A lot more beatable than we all thought a year or two back when all those prospects still had their shine. And I know they're rich. But they'll have to give mega deals to both Bryant, Ryzzo. And they have no pitching prospects so they'll have to pay up there too. So you'll have 4 big deals there, plus Lesters crap deal as he ages(assuming he regresses), Haywards crap deal. Now they have to find 40 mil for Harper too. That's even stretching them pretty thin. You'd be looking at 150 mil just on Bryant Rizzo, Hayward, Lester, Harper. Then you have to pay two more top FA pitchers and 18 other guys. It's going to be an interesting path to navigate.
  24. I know the common notion is their offensive players are set for years and they're loaded. But let's dig a bit deeper. They have Bryant/Rizzo two MVPish level guys, yes that's huge and I know a huge advantage to have. But what do they really have offensively after that? RF can't hit, CF is Jon Jay right now, LF completely flopped this year (and is brutal on D). SS basically can't hit. Baez is nothing special as a hitter. Zobrist is ancient now. Contreras is a solid hitting catcher. So, they only have a plus hitter at two positions as of now but I could see an argument for Contreras, so lets call it 3. Of course there could be a leap coming from SS, Baez, and wherever Happ plays. But as of now, nothing is for sure anywhere else. I would strongly argue the Brewers core back in the day was better Braun/Fielder IMO beat Bryzzo. Then we had plus hitters at 2B, SS (Hardy days), RF and even C with Lucroy. Long story short, they're not quite the juggernaut we all thought since so far only Bryant has really popped offensively for all their position player great prospects. Their rotation just got a big boost yesterday but will have to go through an overhaul this offseason.
  25. Lets start this with a Brewer win and Cubs loss, get the 2nd half off right. Get 7 or 8 of the next ten while they get 4ish. Then sweep them at the end up the month at MP and put it on cruise control the rest of the year.
