  1. Surprised they didn't need Franklin's lefty bat vs a hard throwing righty.
  2. Yea a Guerra last year or Jungmann the year before type hot streak from a young new pitcher could make the difference. Or if out of the pen just one can flip to being reliable so at least 8th and 9th are covered.
  3. Nationals need a ton of help in their bullpen.
  4. Haha, sorry guys. You're right, that was too realistic...
  5. I was just looking at the schedule too. Very good for the next 3 weeks or so which should hopefully allow the team to stay above 500 and involved in the race longer even if Chicago picks it up. Chances are they're not a real playoff contender, but I'm just happy with the longer they keep hanging around the more we can be entertained by it and still have that chance at one hot/luck streak that gets them in. And really if they could just get one or two relievers besides Knebel to start performing it would make a huge difference.
  6. OK, so that's the excuse, thanks. You need that .200 hitting lefty bat in there. If Broxton is in that ball is likely caught, Brinson in left. I said it a few days ago how awkward Franklin looks on routine plays in left. I'm fine with him as an emergency 25th guy that doesn't play, but I don't see why he's out there when we have so many other players with positional flex to be out there.
  7. And Phillips is still here isn't he so you don't even have the lefty excuse?
  8. Well I hope they fire their GM and he comes here as some kind of senior adviser to Stearns. Cardinals should basically be the model we're trying to replicate.
  9. So one of the most consistently winning teams in baseball year after year, and their best fans in baseball think the GM and owner should go? In spite two WS titles in the last 10ish years and I think have missed the playoffs once in the last 8 or so years.
  10. Thing is the only area in the minor leagues that doesn't have significant strength is high ceiling starting pitchers in the upper minors. And no one is going to trade them, so you're going to end up with other younger OF prospects and younger IF prospects, which we have tons of already. Or you could get pitchers but younger, so of course a lot more risk and many here would say that's not enough to get back for him. I admit I'm nowhere near the minors expert as many here so take with a grain of salt, but that would be my general look at trading a guy like Santana now. Plus Thames is older and only signed for 2 years after this, Santana seems like a prime candidate to move 1B down the line to take over there later on. Heck, maybe you'd be better off selling high on Thames.
  11. Gotta be kidding me with blown double play. Would've been a fitting thing to get in the 9th the way the rest of the game has gone. Just need a K to start from Knebel and get the heck out of here
  12. Can you adjust that say May and beyond though? Everyone was well aware of how awful Broxton was in April. Aside from striking out too much overall he's been ok since then but apparently not as good on D as last year, but obviously that horrendous April is going to hold down his cumulative numbers for a while.
  13. Yeah you have to love relievers who strike out 4 in 16 innings. Pure dominance. Don't think I said I loved him anywhere there. Just said better than those guys. but yea I didn't look up any stats, just off the top of my head. ETA: Just went to game log and kind of backed it up. Scoreless in 8/12 appearances(this is actually a stat that should be tracked much more), sometimes going more than 1 inning. Before his last two games in was 8/10 with 2.03 ERA. Last night almost got through 2 innings scoreless before friggen Aaron Hill got that double down the line with 2 outs and i think 2 strikes. 34 innings last year with 3.4 ERA. Seems to be kind of the definition of average to me. And sadly, might be our 3rd best guy right now.
  14. I actually don't think Scahill has been half bad. I'd rather have him than Hughes, Drake, Feliz at this point.
  15. I think they should let Franklin go and keep Phillips up too. I just looked today for an update on Braun, and best I could find was about 5 days ago saying along the lines that they expected him out several weeks. So we probably shouldn't expect him back before say June 20 at the earliest. I'd rather have a real OF as an option instead of hybrids like Franklin/Sogard. IF is covered by Perez and Sogard. Last night there was at least two routine balls that Franklin looked really shaky on. Plus, it just seems Craiger insists on playing everyone no matter what so I'd rather have Phillips there instead of Franklin. Basically with all our depth and versatility with Perez I don't see why Franklin needs to be on the field other than emergencies and pinch hitting, but if he insists on the 25th man starting then might as well have Philipps there. And obviously being a lefty he's a good backup to all 3 of our main OFs, and he's a plus on D so could be useful as a late inning defensive sub for a guy like Braun or Thames in left.
  16. I know Felix has been bad and I wouldn't complain if he just got let go. However, he's hitting 97/98 consistently. Have to think something could be salvaged there somehow. But yea for now, he should be the 2nd to last guy used when the game is still winnable after Drake.
  17. But Dyson has been good for like 3 years. This is a 25ish inning stretch, very small sample here. Could be a prime buy low situation.
  18. Yea with our low salary why not take a flyer on him and hope to fix him.
  19. Anderson looks great again today. So have Guerra and Jimmy lately. Rotation isn't awful if all 5 can just be solid, don't need anyone to be some superstar or anything. Could be enough to hang around for a while longer in this thing.
  20. As much as many of us probably just viewed Gallardo as just a good pitcher and not a star/ace. He should definitely be right near the top of this list due to how weak it is, and he's probably currently a bit underrated/under appreciated among our fans. I was surprised to see he's MKE's #1 for K/9, thought that would be Sheets for sure. Top 4 of Teddy, Sheets, Caldwell, Gallardo in some order is probably fairly clear imo. Then there's a big gap.
  21. Yea I don't care if he's there as the emergency guy, good for him. Broxton's days off can easily from from Perez. As you said, you have two guys that can play everywhere already to move around and give everyone normal days off.
