  1. I have a weird feeling we're going to win this game. I liked how hard they came back after that horrible inning last night to score a few runs and give it a shot. I know Scherzer was rough last game out so one would expect him to be unhittable today. But weird feeling the O is going to score today
  2. It's very tough to manage the pen when virtually no one can be trusted. Any of the guys on our team can lay an egg on any day, impossible to predict when. Though last night if he wasn't going to go with Hader another hitter then I'd have just went with Knebel, roll with your best guy and see what happens. Seems consensus here was to let Hader go, if he walks and/or gives up a hit to the next guy everyone would be ripping for leaving a lefty in vs a really good hitting righty, manager is always going to be nitpicked.
  3. Always oved this guy too. Played 3rd base for years without a cup. Probably has at least a couple solid years left to pad those stats a bit more too
  4. They could have thrown Suter tomorrow easily on normal rest. None of those options match up the next two days? Really? Didn't someone just post the normal options we'd think of and it didn't work out? I thought so anyway. Then you look into when you'd rather have your bad option go, vs Scherzer when you likely won't win anyway or vs Cubs and a winnable game vs Hendricks, obviously just way more important since it's the Cubs. ETA: it was that Jungmann didn't work. And Woodruff got beat up. No one said when Wilkerson pitched last that I saw. But then you're left with Wilkerson, Espino, or pulling Burnes from AA. They probably figured one game out of Blazek is just as good an option as that and now they can do it tomorrow (with a fully rested pen) instead of vs Cubs.
  5. Seems kind of like bad timing that their other minor league options don't line up. Bad luck, and what better day to punt a day than vs Scherzer when you probably only had a 15-20% chance anyway. Just need the W tonight.
  6. So I know we all like to nitpick lineups for us. I was thinking this last night and it happened again today for the Nats, and how they put poor hitters at 1 and 2 while having four of the top 10 hitters in baseball batting lower. Classic Dusty old school thinking that you have to put a fast guy there.
  7. So it looks like a legit injury to Garza and they probably had to kick around what to do about it. Decided after the game to just roll with Blazek instead of the minor league options to bring someone up, so then just got Brinson instead of a P since the bullpen is fresh.
  8. WAS has a lefty today and Cubs do on Friday. Cubs have righties Sat/Sun so Brinson could go down Saturday if they bring a starter up for that game. But without a trade I think they'll clean the garbage out of the pen instead.
  9. Maybe, just maybe they didn't decide to do it until he'd already gone out? That is the most likely scenario, way too much read into him playing one inning. Relax. Relax with telling people to relax. We're fine. It is the trade deadline, and roster moves have been made in ways that are not typical. How many roster moves have they had this year? 6,782? Have they ever pulled a player out of a game to make a move? I don't think so. Garza didn't pitch last night. He realized in the locker room after the game he was injured? And don't announce it until now? Nothing unusual about any of this. Either way, we are perfectly relaxed. Yea feel free to wildy speculate based on a guy playing one inning. Starting pitchers do physical things on their off days and someone can get hurt doing anything. What big thing that we know changed is that our starter went really deep in the game for once so can be confident the next few days of having a short BP once the new guy is added tomorrow (I'd guess a reliver goes out, not Brinson, but we'll see then and on Saturday for the replacement starter). They could have simply been kicking around options and didn't make a decision until after the game. Of course there's talks in the works and something could happen anytime from here out but him playing an inning is not a clear sign of a conspiracy of some kind. Often times the simplest thing is the answer and so far it looks like just that, some roster juggling just in time to start Brinson vs a lefty while having Brinson physically with the team in case something happens between now and the deadline. ETA: I will grant some frustration if we roll a bullpen day out on Saturday in a big game. Hope there's a clear plan that shows itself soon and I'll generally welcome a trade.
  10. I agree with you. Something had to have been (or maybe still is) in the works last night. Why else do you send Brinson out there for one half inning (after a rain delay) only to pull him before the bottom of the 1st. If they were simply bringing him up for another right handed bat, they would have already known they were going to do that and wouldn't have done all of that. Likewise, wouldn't they have known about a pending DL stint for Garza (if this is truly a legit injury)? Unless if he literally slipped on a banana peel in the clubhouse after the game last night, it again wouldn't explain why they sent Brinson out there for 1/2 inning. Something is still a little fishy with all of this. Maybe, just maybe they didn't decide to do it until he'd already gone out? That is the most likely scenario, way too much read into him playing one inning. Relax.
  11. I've wanted Drake out for a while and the implosion Saturday should have been his last straw IMO. He was also the guy used in the 9th last night in the blowout if that's any indication.
  12. It may eventually amount to much ado about nothing, but the way things have gone down and the direct quotes from Stearns certainly indicate there was at least a chance something was/is going on. I really think the primary force behind this was the lefty starter today for WAS combined with the great start from Davies resting the bullpen. I'd view the trade aspects of it as kind 'just in case'. I'd be happy to be wrong, no matter the trade it creates some action/entertainment/excitement.
  13. I kind of feel like everyone is worked up about nothing here. Likely just some roster juggling but of course they're talking to teams and it's good to have him physically with the team in case, but it's not a clear indicator some grand deal is done/imminent. Relax.
  14. Bullpen is fresh, I'd guess whoever is going out for the new guy will go out today. Brinson gets his spot to start vs lefty tonight.
  15. There was some scouts take on Verlander written on CBS a week or so back. Long story short (off the top of my head so take it with a grain of salt), the summary was that he expected him to bounce back. Velocity and things like you just mentioned are in line like last year. His biggest problem apparently has been just lack of control on first pitch as compared to last year, starting a ton of batters at 1-0 vs what he did last year. That's not to say they thought he'd be worth 80mil but the guy was kind of expecting a bounce back to finish the year and seemingly would be confident in him still being good next year.
  16. Could just be a lot of plates in the air and they want Brinson physically with the team in case something happens. Also, it's said the new reliever won't be there until tomorrow. If nothing happens, send down the reliever going down for him today, start Brinson in CF vs lefty today makes sense too. Then activate reliever tomorrow and send one of the OFs or another reliever down.
  17. x100... It is amazing how we don't appreciate a guy that turned 24 and is having a very good offensive year. Just continues to get better but a lot of fans just disregard him. 290/380 with 25-30 HRS and 20 SBs do not grow on trees.
  18. Santana continues to be disrespected. No way he's the one going out. He's all of one year older than Phillips/Brinson and is doing great in MLs right now. There is no guarantee what the others will provide but we're going to make a win now trade while starting two unproven guys in two outfield spots? Just not logical but falls in line with the boards generally love affair with prospects. Maybe in the offseason or something, but not right now.
  19. Could just be as simple as they have no backup OFs right now. Perez is all they have and he's not a true OF, plus hasn't been great. And generally they had too many lefties for the platoons. Then combine that with Braun's daily iffiness and sometimes logical need for a defensive late game sub for him. Bullpen has been rested now for a bit without being overworked so can go back to a normal amount of relievers. Could be as simple as two relievers out (or what Jericho just said below me), the traded guy in and Brinson in. Could be that simple, or there could be more, we'll see.
  20. Man people like to complain. This is exactly the type of trade I thought they'd do and they should do, doesn't risk any significant future pieces while improving our biggest weakness this year. Sure it would've been nice if the guy was controlled for next year too, but then it likely would've cost more. Then people would complain we'd given too much up and risking the future. They traded a guy who was likely never going to play in MKE due to the OF depth ahead of him (and they had a good shot at losing after this season for nothing) to help make a push now, I don't see how anyone can complain about it.
  21. I like the shakeup to get Thames out of 2. Maybe i'd prefer Santana 2 and Braun 4, but obviously it doesn't really matter. Just like shaking things up with Thames and seeing if it can get him going again.
  22. I'd say Phillips would qualify too. But I think I saw a tweet from Rosenthal yesterday saying the Brewers had been fading in these talks. Presumably pulling back due to the poor play lately.
