  1. Everyone thought that but so far it's been almost all 5 year deals. I guess these guys still value locking in the guaranteed money over taking that risk. Lebron might be the exception because his salary is a blip on the radar of his overall income. There's another unknown stipulation that if you have 10 years of experience your max is higher than when you have 9. So there's even more motivation for a guy with 8 years to take a two year deal, then re-up again after the 10th. I think this factored into Millsap doing a short deal and it could become relevant for Durant too.
  2. I read something the other day too that non-destination teams like MKE should try to make their signings this year because not everyone has space. Two years from now, all teams will have massive cap space so no one will sign in Milwaukee. So they could be factoring that in
  3. I totally agree, I'd rather wait a year or two because they're not winning the title right now anyway. It seems they're determined to do something though and you for sure can't just let Middleton walk for nothing. I wish it was only 4 years just to decrease the commitment and make trading him easier if needed. DeMarre carrol just got 15 mil and Middleton is way better, other similar guys are getting right in the same ballpark, it's just the going rate now. To me a guy like Monroe doesn't make them a title contender anyway so I'd rather see how Giannis and MCW develop and if Jabari is ok before making big financial commitments. You might need that money for a PG or a wing scorer if Giannis doesn't learn how to shoot. But really though let's say you get Monroe, trade MCW for Lawson. Lawson, Middleton, Giannis, Jabari, Monroe with Bayless, Vasquez (might have to trade Vazquez to get lawson too), Zaza, Henson, Mayo. Really that might be 2nd best team in the East assuming improvement from Giannis and Jabari being respectable. I'd probably say Chicago is 2nd but we'd be in a battle for 3rd with Washington/Tor/Atl. If Lebron gets hurt you might find yourselves in the Finals.
  4. If they get a good deal for Gomez or Lucroy now you take it but no rush. Can just do it in the offseason and I think that's the best route. Neither has performed this year, mostly due to injury. So if they finish the year strong their value would be at it's peak. All other should be dumped for whatever they can get
  5. regarding comments on him betting on his team to win: can you really believe this? The guy has lied about everything the entire time, if he know his SP had a dead arm or a cold I'm pretty sure he'd bet against. And at least he wouldn't bet on them, which in itself is a bet against. Guy is a dirtball, good riddance.
  6. I want Jimmy up to work through it at MLB. I'd prefer to keep Jungman up too. You have to remember that AAA is in Colorado Springs, terrible for pitchers and could hurt them more than help. You have to let guys learn and trust that they'll improve. Not everyone comes up and dominates. Even Kershaw sucked when first came up too, yea he was 19 but it just shows you have to let them figure it out. This is from CBS Power Rankings today: In 2013, Dallas Keuchel had a 5.15 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. In 2015, he should be the AL starter in the All-Star Game.
  7. Only 11.5 back in WC. We'll be right back in it before we know it. Seriously though it's good to see them still putting in effort and caring about winning even though they know it's over. Good sign for Counsell being a good manager.
  8. Put Jungman in the bullpen as a long guy until you can hopefully trade one of Garza/Lohse, someone else gets hurt or just release Lohse after the deadline? These guys get rocked often enough that Jungman would still get plenty of opportunities to pick up innings and it would keep his total innings count down. Just an idea.
  9. some info on Monroe here. I guess I'm on board with him. Sounds like a great passer along with good post game. And shows good effort/attitude on D in spite of not being a rim protector. Interesting thing in here is it says Brook Lopez is really good on P&R, I had always heard the opposite. Doesn't matter as he's back to BKN anyway, but I know it was talked about in this thread http://www.thebirdwrites.com/2015/1/28/7925463/the-argument-for-greg-monroe-over-omer-asik-synergy-sports
  10. BJ makes some good points. I generally agree and will add to it. I think one thing people don't remember accurately about Bo is that he played relatively wide open back in the Harris through Butch type era. He really only slowed it down to a slog during the Jordan Taylor era because he had no talent besides Taylor (Bruzsiwitz/Evans were just brutal). Then the last two years he was able to open it up again. Yes the pace still isn't high but they weren't draining every possession down to the end of the clock like in the Taylor years. During the Harris/Tucker years those guys were basically free to do whatever they want and the majority of the Harris offense his last two years were simple ball screens with Wilkinson. Not really the swing, just like the last two years weren't really the swing. The question would be whether Bennett has that same flexibility? We don't really know but at UVA he faces similar academic restraints we do so he understands what he'd be getting into
  11. Jordan operates all off the ball, like Chandler/Sanders. Screen/roll/catch/dunk, that's it. I'm not an expert on Monroe but I think he's capable of getting his own buckets but I don't think he's a black hole like Mason or say Al Jefferson. This was in a grantland article about Ty Lawson, who i've mentioned earlier as a potential target: The Bucks: Imagine Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo running with a guard who can actually score. Trade Michael Carter-Williams, throw in a pick, whatever it takes. Like Minnesota, this is probably too much fun to really happen, and that’s for the best, because if it did, I’d probably have to move to Milwaukee tomorrow.
  12. 5/70, yea I'd prefer a little less too but it's the nature of the league now. We just have to get used to it. One thing about that though is that I believe they can only have one 5 year deal at a time, I don't know exactly how it works but this may prevent them from giving more than 4 years to Giannis or Jabari, whichever is better. Essentially this is what screwed the Wolves with Love. They would only give him a 4 year deal because they wanted to save the 5 year for Rubio (who isn't good), and it ticked him off. Not sure why someone here thinks Monroe is bad at offense, unless they're saying he's slow and won't be able to keep up in the open court. Few bigs can really but I wouldn't be concerned about that with him. I'd be more worried about his D, he's considered a poor P&R defender so I doubt he'll be able to switch much on D and that's not what they want. And I'd be concerned what someone else said about him being more of 4/5 mix than true 5, so he'd have trouble against bigger lineups. However, the league is going small so that will be rare. Should be able to run a Monroe, Parker, Giannis, Middleton, MCW lineup a lot. If they're determined to sign someone I'd rather have Chandler due to shorter term contract and being cheaper, and I think he fits what they need better. But of course he's old so you have the injury risk.
  13. Smart wouldn't be a fit. He plays an uptempo full court press that requires athleticism, it would be completely starting over. And frankly we can't get the amount of athleticism needed to run that system admitted to UW academically. Gard and Bennett do the same basic system and understand the unique academic situation UW is in. Either works for me, I'd be shocked if it's not Gard though as he'll be much cheaper and UW is cheap, plus he's earned it.
  14. I wouldn't even waste time on DJ if I was them. From TX and played in CA. This guy isn't coming to WI. Re-signing with LAC or going to Dallas IMO.
  15. Exactly, the trade was an old regime move. Not the new regime who claim to be all about the future. yet we give up a first round pick for one year of a backup G. would rather just sign a guy off the scrapheap or play ennis and then use the pick to trade up in a future draft or in this one. I don't care if they finish 6th or the 9th in the conference next year, all about the years after next.
  16. Trade them MCW for Nerlens?
  17. Dekker will be able switch positions 2-4 on the floor and play as a stretch 4 in today NBA in the right situations. He's 6'9 with super long arms for his height so really he could switch to anyone on the floor since he can jump too. Who knows if he'll guard them well but being able to switch everything is what the bucks are supposedly targeting. Of course he needs to get stronger and improve quickness before he can do it well but no one is a finished product. It's not about 1on1 anymore in the NBA. He's the same as Jabari Parker. If we didn't have Jabari or Giannis he would have made sense. I'm with you all on not getting the Vasquez thing at all
  18. I think Dekker fits what they're looking to do in that he can play and guard multiple positions. I think it's more that they have those spots covered by Giannis, Jabari, and presumably Middleton already. Hopefully Vaughn can develop a bit of a handle so that you can play lineups in the future of those three, Vaugh, and a big. Even if MCW stays there's teams you could play MCW too and have Giannis guard the C. I just don't get giving up a first for a one year deal that is unlikely to be back. Unless MCW is on his way out and they need a stopgap
  19. I wonder if 2B could be an option for him ala Biggio. He'd be a good hitter for 2B but again you can't pay 20 mil like Mauer.
  20. I hope they gave the Clippers pick instead of ours since it should be higher. I don't know what they're thinking considering they have good backups in Bayless and Marshall, plus the wild card in Ennis. Only thing I can think of is they're dangling MCW or a sign/trade of Middleton.
  21. I think it speaks more to how tough the league is and that there isn't a good minor league/feeder system established. It is also because each team only starts 5 guys, not a lot of spots available. NFL needs 22 players and half the league gets injured every year. MLB gets 0 ready players each year. The NBA system would work better if they were required to stick 3 years like the NFL but that's not the case and frankly I don't see how it's legal to not let 18 year olds work. Think of how much harder the NFL draft would be if they had to drive people out of HS if some court said their age discrimination was illegal. They'd probably expand rosters or add like 6 development roles on the roster or something.
  22. I did some reading on him today and taking him at 17 really seems like a stretch. He's more of a traditional SG, not a ball control type. Good shooter/scorer though which we need but seems like he has a lot of work left before he can get on the floor in the Association. If they traded up for a late first or early 2nd I'd love to have him though.
  23. and CP has never made it past the second round 10 years in. Regardless of that, I don't think any of us on here are saying to write him off for being short. We're just saying it seems to be the opposite of what they're targeting for team construction so it would be surprising if they took someone like him. And if they were ok with it really I think I'd rather give the pick to Denver for Lawson so at least you know you're getting something good. Young is a good idea, could be the replacement for Mayo after next year. If they take a G like Vaughn though I would expect a big in the second. I've seen Vaughn pegged as a late first rounder. Maybe they'll trade next year's pick to move up for him or and use their own on something else.
  24. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that he agreed to the lifetime ban in order to avoid criminal prosecution. Whenever someone has argued that he should be in that was always my take. At least that's the way I understand, if an old timer knows better just correct me. This was negotiated and agreed to, and then he spent the next 30 years lying about it. Then 'came clean' a few years ago and now it turns out he was still lying when he did that. The guy is a joke and should never be allowed in the HOF or to be honored in anyway.
  25. I know a little about Vaughn and like the idea of gambling for very high upside, similar to what they did with Giannis. I've never really seen him play as I'm curious if he has the ballhandling ability to be a lead guard in the Rose/Westbrook/Harden mold where they're basically the PG and constantly creating/driving or is he more of Bradley Beal /Ray Allen traditional off ball shooting guard? Thanks for some support on Boogie. Sounds like the Lakers is where he wants to be, so us getting him would probably just tick him off and create a situation, so not going to happen. Kings are asking the world from the Lakers though so it could fall through. Could create a fun season of him and Kobe bickering. If he goes there I predict they win a title within 6 years. Sounds like Aldridge might go too and of course Love is a possibility if he doesn't. Cousins and one of those PFs as building blocks, just need to snag a guard/wing to replace Kobe and they're title contenders. Conveniently Westbrook is from LA and FA in two years and will likely demand a trade if KD leaves OKC next year. And he's good friends with Love.
