  1. I'd play Hernan at 3B a lot and get Sardinas up to get ABs at all three spots. I wouldn't complain about playing Dominguez at 3rd either and see what happens. Being the Brewers, he'll probably do well to finish the year and then we'll bank on him for the future and he'll never live up to it. Sorry the pessimism creeping in
  2. The Brewers are 17-7 in their last 24 games. It’s the best record in the NL since June 23rd. In July the Brewers offense leads the NL with 97 runs. They also lead the NL in Hits, HR, BA, OBP, and SLG.
  3. I read through that and agree. MKE should be holding strong for Gomez since we still control him and trade later. You know teams are asking the world for Price, Hamels, Cueto and he should be right there with them in what you get back.
  4. I'd just keep him there to fill in due to an injury and/or when a game is out of hand. Unless he makes a fuss about that role and would be a distraction and asks to be let go so he can try to sign with Cardinals for the rest of the year. He seems like a pro though so I wouldn't expect something like that.
  5. Right, I said that from the beginning. I was just curious where he fell in that because I remembered in the past being shocked at guys that counted as compensation worthy even though they hadn't been good in a year or two. Apparently, that was an absolute ridiculous thing to ask even though the system still exists but with some tweaks over the years.
  6. Ha, I thought so too. Also, didn't the Mets give up a first round pick to sign Michael Cuddyer just last offseason and everyone laughed at them?
  7. I'd be fine with that but I think the simpler route is just to put him in the mop up role so that's what they'll do. Someone will probably have some kind of injury at some point for him to pick up a few spot starts.
  8. Really, I just saw yesterday on ESPN someone receiving a pick if the guy left in FA rather than trading him now? Pretty sure it was David Price they were talking about. And last year it was a factor in Morales and Drew not signing until late in the year? And the year before was Lohse. Regardless, we'd have to make a qualifying offer which no way we'd do so it doesn't matter.
  9. Curious if he would net us a compensation pick next year. Obviously not a first, but don't they go as low as 3rd? I know he's been brutal this year but his track record might inflate it, however I'm sure no one would sign him until after the deadline if that were the case. I was just curious if he'd stall fall in that system
  10. But who was his replacement, there's not just some endless string of people that you can pluck from AAA to play competently as that stat seems to imply. How many 'replacements' did we go through at 1B until giving up on that and trading for Lind. I just did a quick search to see who's been getting Miggy Cabrera's ABs for Detroit, guy who seems to be starting a fair amount is Marc Krauss, up to 70 abs now with a .148 avg and obp. I said at 2B and SS, have to figure he's better than at least 10 at each spot. I actually agree with your assessment on Segura in the last two paragraphs. I'm just trying to make a point about taking WAR too literally.
  11. Who was our "replacement level" the last few years? Elian Herrera. Yea now we have Sardinas so he could be shopped if you get something you like. Not everyone has that and this WAR stat acts like you can just pluck a guy from nowhere and he's going to be a competent MLB player. If half the teams are playing someone worse than him at either SS/2B there must not be all these replacements sitting around as the stat implies with it's name. If you don't see something you like trade him, otherwise I'm fine with keeping him and Sardinas coming up and splitting some time at 3B, 2b, SS and see how he hits.
  12. Did anyone hear the TV announcers discussing how hard of a decision it is on who to take out of the rotation when Peralta is back? It's an absolute no-brainer, Lohse should get put in mop-up role to save others innings and in case someone else gets hurt. And of course he gives up a bomb to start today's game as I write this
  13. Bill absolutely nailed it. In addition, if someone is willing to cross this well known rule to bet on his own team, it's only a matter of until he starts betting against his own team. Slippery slope and with true degenerate gamblers it's only a matter of time.
  14. Makes you really wonder what happened behind the scenes at the end of last year and beginning of April. Seemed like they had tuned out RR for some reason. We'll never know, although I wouldn't be surprised if Lucroy spoke freely after he gets traded.
  15. [sarcasm]But if you take Joe Schmo AAA and replace those guys with him he's going to play adequate D and hit above 260/310[/sarcasm]
  16. In our situation we actually do have a guy in Sardinas sitting there who should get reasonably close to him so I get why they should look into it. Not every team has that at SS or 2B and that's why there should be some demand for him, of course you're not getting some elite prospect or anything but plenty of teams should view him as an upgrade one of those two spots. I get what WAR tries to do but I think the name should be changed somehow, I think too many people take it too literally. That's really all I was getting at. Call it Player Value Rating or something like that.
  17. I understand the usefulness of WAR as way to factor in all aspects when valuing a player(similar to PER in NBA). But I think it get over used as an absolute sometimes and people tend to act like you can just pluck anyone from the minors and stick them in there, and I just don't think it's that simple. Look at our 1B situation the last few years as an example. I just did a quick scan of SSs and really only found 7 that I viewed as no-brainers over Segura. Then there's a pile of comparable guys to him. Then throw in another half of the teams that he'd be an upgrade at 2B and he should have some value.
  18. WS or bust. Even with trading at least Parra/Lind they can still be entertaining and competitive to finish the year. Davis will be ok in left to replace Parra, but 1B will be the black hole it's been the last few years. If more gets traded than just them and K-rod it might start to look like April again.
  19. Parra is an absolute must trade. Lind is nearly a must trade. And if you get something good back for K-Rod you take it. After that they don't absolutely have to do anything. Gomez/Lucroy/Segura are the next best chips and there's no rush to do it.
  20. So Garza is back tonight. Anyone heard an update on Peralta lately? Would like him back so they can put Lohse in mop up duty and continue this run for the WC
  21. Fair enough, you seem to be a little pre-dispositioned to dislike such a thing. Maybe to the average joe who doesn't really care much about PEDs and it would come across. IDK, just saw it mentioned in some articles and a few people I work with said it. I got the vibe he kind of poked fun at himself. But whatever, I can't believe they even felt comfortable enough with him to nominate him for the award and then to have him there.
  22. · Since May 30th the Brewers have 22 wins. Only two MLB teams (Pirates 27, Cardinals 24) have more. I got this Friday in the weekly email from my ticket rep. 3rd best team in MLB in the last almost two months, yes much funner to watch again. Next 6 games vs just ok teams in Cle and AZ. Go 5-1 and they're in it!! Bench Lohse for Peralta fairly soon would be nice.
  23. And with an option for next year you don't have to trade him I guess. Though I don't think his value will be higher than it is now. Of the guys that can get a solid return Parra is the only absolute must trade, the rest can wait, put Davis back in LF and keep this run going and win the WS. Too bad NL lost the ASG for home field. Really though I think Parra and Lind should go now, value won't be higher. Maybe play Ramirez at 1B some to finish the year and let the Sardinas/Perez get ABs at 3B. Gomez is starting to look like himself, if you get a great deal you kind of have to take it.
  24. Yea I'd go Rose, Braun, Favre too. And I was generally a Favre hater thinking he was overrated his last ten years or so, living off what he did earlier. I hated his back and forth every offseason but it doesn't really approach Rose or even Braun. Interesting take SRB, never would have thought of it that way. Try making that argument haha, Braun is a hero because he risked personal disgrace to try to win the WS.
  25. Yea that's fairly spot on. The risk for him is that if he has two more years like this one then he's looking at 2/15 type of thing. No way I'd offer up a Molina type deal now with two years left, only if it's super team friendly. I'm fine with waiting until the offseason for Gomez and/or Lucroy, let them rebuild their value a bit the rest of the year.
