  1. He grabbed Howard's arm and then stepped in front of him...thus not allowing Howard to walk away. That is essentially restraining Howard. Grabbing someone and then using your body to prevent them from going where they want is physically restraining them by definition, in my opinion. I mean...I am not blaming Gard for doing it, as I can't imagine many just letting someone walk away after that. But thus, he did it.
  2. I understand this POV but I also guarantee you that Tom Izzo, Bo Ryan, and many a coach would have done or have done the exact same thing. I've seen coaches not happy with each other stop each other in line to talk before - that's not unprecedented. Grabbing someone by the shirt, much less taking a swing, is not something I've ever seen. What Bobby Knight would have done I would have paid money to see... Oh sure, I am not shocked Gard did what he did…I’m guessing almost anyone isn’t letting Howard say that and walk off like some kind of coward. But thus, it’s still not ‘right’.
  3. Well he knew Howard was upset. Howard said “I’ll remember that.” and it looks like Howard MIGHT have actually been going for the handshake after saying that…but hard to know for sure. Howard wanted to take his little shot at Gard and walk off. Gard really didn’t have any of that and stopped him. It’s hard to know if Gard was going to have a constructive conversation/explanation…but obviously it escalated into a full blown yelling match quickly. Certainly, it’s not easy to let someone make come dumb comment at you and let them just walk away like that. Especially when the guy making the comment is quite in the wrong, for the most part.
  4. From a non homer point of view: I don’t agree with Howard being upset with that…he was playing his team 100%, don’t be mad when you get it back from the other side. Clearly he then made some snippy comments in the line, was going to walk away without a handshake or a conversation. Pretty lame and uncalled for. That being said Gard grabbing him wasn’t really in the right either and certainly caused things to spill over. I’d expect Wisco to proactively suspend Gard/Neath as it looks better that way versus the NCAA doing it. Howard’s certainly has got some issues though.
  5. Facebook is typically better. Either via marketplace or buy/sell groups.
  6. 1) The Brewers aren’t getting a new stadium any time even remotely soon. 2) They won’t leave Will they demand a new stadium or threaten to leave as a negotiating tactic? Yah, definitely so…that’s just how it works. I don’t think they really care for a new stadium. They know Miller Park is still modern and has been updated impressively well. I’m not going to predict where the money comes from, but the reality is the Brewers do generate millions and millions in tax revenue for the city/state/surrounding area. So if they can lock the Brewers into another long lease throwing some cash every year for an improvement fund really shouldn’t be a major obstacle in the end.
  7. Looking at the Badgers schedule you just feel like they will likely lose one of Mich, @Min, @Rutgers so it would come down to beating Purdue at home. But who knows, this team keeps surprising me. I mean, they did beat Purdue on the road already, so it isn't that far fetched. Maybe the tables turn this time, but they could also go and beat Rutgers to flip that script. They are going to have to play well, that is for sure. I do think they can afford a loss though. I doubt they can afford a second one though.
  8. Illinois loses, opens up the door for Wisconsin to grab a part of the regular season title. I doubt any of the 4 loss teams will win out...in my opinion. 5 loses probably can get a piece of the pie. Illinois probably has the upper hand to win it with 4 losses. Outside of their road game against MSU they should be winning all those games. If they steal the road win that may be enough...but that is a big ask.
  9. I didn't say we would fire him, but he doesn't have to resign. It also could just be a mutual parting of ways. If Stearns doesn't want to do a rebuild here, he ain't doing. Doesn't matter if he has 10 years on his contract or zero. The Brewers won't want a GM who isn't committed to whatever process is at hand. Be that competing or rebuilding. He may not get dropped onto a team coming off the postseason or anything. But a larger market with good assets in place...that is a quick rebuild in a really generous situation.
  10. I always thought punishing programs for this kind of thing was a slippery slope. Sooooo much is slipping through the cracks it seems questionable to really drop hammers on some few programs. I mean a big part of Kansas' probe is Zion Williamson...a player who never even ended up on the team. So it seems pretty obvious that Duke paid Williamson, there just isn't any proof. So Kansas, the team that didn't even end up paying him, is going to take the fall for that situation? At some point someone should go punish the leaders of college basketball. They are the ones that let this run beyond wild and have caused it to be totally out of control.
  11. Most teams that need a GM are probably in a rebuild. Otherwise the old GM would probably still be there. Not necessarily...and even then there is a difference between the end of a rebuild with lots of assets/payroll space and the start of a rebuild with all kinds of problems with little assets.
  12. Trading him would be interesting if our team just fell apart somehow, but I guess he isn't as attractive at that point. He isn't going to sit here through a rebuild. Good GMs don't need to do that. Just like Epstein he can just jump ship when it looks to be going south. Good GMs know that rebuilding teams suck and make them look bad. Get in the life boat with some of your closest personnel and float off to the next tropical island. Then we got to find a new guy looking for his big opportunity.
  13. Yah, by then our entire front office is under the Stearn's mindset. If you really want to continue that you just promote from within and keep it chugging. It wouldn't be woefully different after Stearn's leaves...at least not the way people think it would.
  14. The winter Olympics are soooooo confusing, for most I am sure. I watch it, but it is incredibly hard to follow most events. You watch people do runs and it may hold, may not. So often guy sit in first place and have zero shot of winning. Cross country skiing has penalties and extra laps in many times. One race some people start 4 minutes back depending on how they jumping earlier. Swimming and track races are not only quick, but pretty obvious what is going on. Winter Olympics just doesn't have a simple H2H concept.
  15. The end of cross country skiing races is oddly more intense than you would expect. The announcers are garbage though....so bad. I gotta be honestly, despite 30 minutes of Shiffrin coverage, I still wasn't 100% sure what exactly happened. I think I do from watching it that event a bunch...but the announcers don't explain it. "She missed a gate" doesn't quite make sense to most people watching. Because that "gate" is a stick.
  16. The girl redeeming herself from 2006 to grab the gold in the snowboard race was a nice story after the depressing Shiffrin ordeal.
  17. Yah, he really didn't give much of an effort on defense to stop Kofi. However, every time they did Illinois got a nice jumper for a bucket. Illinois was doing just enough in the mid-range and from beyond the arc, I am not sure it would have mattered much. Personally, when a big guy dominates you like that, you gotta get him on the other end of the court. Try to get him in foul trouble from his defense or try to wear him down. In that aspect, the Badgers just didn't do much if anything at all.
  18. Badgers shot terrible, but then again they are one of the worst shooting teams in basketball. Kind of amazing the score was as close as it was in the end. Kofi against a team the size of Wisconsin was kind of ‘LOL’. I mean wow that is a one big dude with great moves and a nice little shot. Don’t think Wisconsin did enough to try and force the rest of the team to do something.
  19. Outside of Duke and Kentucky, who is even churning through brand new squads like that? Seems like transfer are the new fad though with the COVID instant transfers that were allowed.
  20. I mean, at the point, cashing out even if you kinda think Love is a flop is still tempting. If Rodgers returns, how long will he be here? Is it going to turn into a thing where ever few years we have to go through this again? Maybe, maybe not. Does it become a year to year basis? If there is a reasonable way to keep him around that would be my preference....but I could see where one might want to kindly cut it off even if they have no high expectations for Love. You'd have the resources afterwards to draft up in the next two drafts to pretty much any spot you want to go grab a QB.
  21. Why does everyone keep saying this like it is a cold fact? What if they immediately suck and pick a QB in the top 5? If there's one certainty in the NFL it's that you can go from dreadful to good in record time. You are just reading it that way I think.
  22. Maybe they give Love a year before they do so, but I imagine the Packers might use some of their massive surplus to draft another QB pretty high in the draft. So even if Love flops they may still have a better than average opportunity to find that QB of the future.
  23. I really don't find the whole intentionally losing thing very shocking. NBA teams pretty much do it openly. I guess I would be more interested to see how exactly one goes about intentionally losing in the NFL.
  24. I think about that just about every year. I find myself going to fewer games and becoming less interested. This just adds to that feeling. I tuned out of baseball right after the season because of the lock out coming. I honestly have forgotten about baseball for the most part for months now. I just now pondered, who are the Top 10 free agents this offseason? Couldn't think of one. Now writing this I pondered, who did we sign before this lockout? I remember doing something and getting someone. Oh yah...we dumped that bum JBJ. That is as much as I can remember. Don't ask me what we got in return, I just remember laughing at whatever team it was wanting him. Just when I think baseball can't self-implode any more they do this garbage. This is the third year in a row you can't even look forward to baseball starting. 2020 - COVID and their drama trying to figure out to even play. 2021 - Baseball returns, but with frustrating COVID rules and going to a game was more aggravating than fun 2022 - Lockout And then being a SSH. All that does it tick me off more with all the decisions they do for tickets and other SSH garbage.
  25. Yah, the Aaron Rodgers thing is a great reason why Jordan Love has essentially no chance to lead them deep in the playoffs for 3+ years. It took Aaron Rodgers three years despite being very very good right from the get-go. Not only that, but he fell into a pretty nice roster situation and they built it up incredibly well in those first few years. Rodgers was gifted with a Top 5 defense and a receiving core of Driver/Jennings/Nelson/Jones/Finley. I am not saying that can't have a quick turnaround...Not inferring it will take a half decade plus. However, yah, I am saying they won't be a legit Super Bowl contender for the next three years. Which is where my point of, who cares about the cap space issue and the veterans on the team in the short term. Losing a useful guy or two because of cap really just won't matter. Best case would be a soft rebuild where Love is looking like the answer, they have some cap space to play around with, and can build the roster. I don't really see, considering the cap constraints, how they can make this a run/defense team. Not in the sense to nearly instantly makes Jordan Love able to lead them to a Super Bowl. I think the utter best case you would be looking at is a Jimmy G type scenario. Which every one here seems to make fun of. If we have to dump some guys to trade Rodgers/Adams...do it. Not saying we should go pawn off young long term pieces. Just don't see losing sleep over 30+ year old guys if we have to dump them to make cap room.
