  1. At least we got some proven MLB talent.... a guy with 4/5 seasons with an ERA north of 4 in the bullpen and another bullpen guy who is 31 years old with a mid 4 ERA this year. But of course...we shall see what they do on the buying end in the next few days. Unfortunately giving up major prospects for relievers is not in the cards of MLB teams these days.
  2. Well teams tried to pull Ohtani away and the Angels stopped listening. So he is either not available or you would have to make a borderline idiotic offer to make it happen. There is nothing impressive about acquiring guys at the deadline. You just gotta keep throwing stuff at the other team until they say yes. Then you hope to get lucky and hope you didn't give up anything that amounts to anything.
  3. I would have let Hader walk away for nothing after next year over taking this offer. Hopefully I can LOL at my comments years down the road...but I don't really like this trade even in the slightest at face value. Maybe I will feel better after looking at the prospects closer.
  4. I mean I doubt it entirely outlaws shifting. Just won’t allow 3 guys on one side or a 3B 50 feet in RF. Guessing guys can still stand pretty far back and have a guy essentially up the middle if you want.
  5. All it takes is one person with a lot of money. Wouldn't really shock me. Especially if said person has aspirations to move them to a bigger market.
  6. It is called constructive feedback so he doesn't ruin the website he just bought. What works on the Twins site may not work with this demographic. Not to mention a big part of the commenting/traffic here is a focused group of people. Probably don't want to make those people mad. If they leave you lose a lot of knowledge and activity. Does he want me to view 13 ads once a week or 5 ads multiple times a day nearly every day of the week? A huge amount of the traffic daily is during the season via IGTs. If the ads/videos are constantly popping up and it is a massive annoyance no one is going to waste their time logging in to be on his site.
  7. As a Kansas fan (top overall team that year) I still groan even thinking about that canceled tourney. Then of course Wisconsin won the mock tourney. Worst though...the poor Dayton Flyers. 29-2 and were going to be a one seed.
  8. There should just be a like button. Definitely not a 'Yikes' anything and probably not even 'dislike'. If you want to oppose someone write out a logical response. This forum has been built on actually voicing your opposition and not one word responses etc....if I responded "Yikes" to a post right now the mods would delete it and angrily PM me. Negative related down-vote type stuff is just going to create drama and complaining. We already see that now.
  9. There is a lot of competition for those seeds though. The Big 12 could poach a lot of those Top 8 seeds between Kansas/Texas Tech/Baylor. If Texas Tech finishes off strong it is pretty likely all three of those teams are 1/2s. Not to mention Arizona, Auburn, Duke, Kentucky, and Gonzaga. Might be a stretch for the Big Ten to end up with no 1/2...but there is the possibility. Especially if Wisconsin went and flopped in their first game of the Big Ten tourney. Purdue could still end up a #2 if they went and won out in that scenario.
  10. This will only get way worse as childcare becomes even more scarce/hard to find. It is to the point in some places planning a family involves wait listing for over a year and then trying to time out having the kid when your spot comes up. I knew someone who was so desperate they paid childcare a little over a month before the child was born so they didn't have to sacrifice their spot.
  11. There's no beating around the bush; ads suck. But let me address this in two parts: 1. We pride ourselves on paying most of our revenue to our core content creators. We take a very bottom-up approach and nurture and encourage the next generation of writers and video creators and as a result, proportionally we pay *much better* than the corporate conglomerate team sites that have sprung up in the past decade (who shall be left unnamed but we all know who I'm talking about). And we can't do that without the ads. So, yeah, no one likes ads but I hope the content is so good and in-depth that tolerating new ads is something we can all deal with in the long-run. 2. The ads need work. The way ads are delivered on Twins Daily is that our ad provider chooses where they go on the site and then delivers them. Over time, this has led to some "ad bloat" on Twins Daily that I'm not fond of, particularly in the forums. At some point, I will find the time to methodically go through the site, find where ads are populating and why, and then send a list of changes to the ad provider. When will that happen? Dunno, but it's certainly on the list. I use the site more than anybody so if something bugs you, it probably bugs me, too. Again, if new and better content/features outweigh it...then I think people will be okay with it. The mobile browser is pretty concerning though. I am sure a lot of people are like me and sit on their phone with the forum. Ad pop-ups and little 'content videos' appearing as I scroll/click is pretty unbearable. Not to mention the ad provider intentionally makes it so clicking the 'x' is almost impossible without opening the ad on a mobile device. Now all the random ads that are stationary...meh, you get used to those.
  12. I don't think anyone is assured a #2 after tonight. If either one won the B10 tourney and the other got bounced before that championship that could swing things. Especially if said team were to beat Illinois.
  13. Hopefully there will be enough positive changes to outweigh getting pelted and assaulted with a trillion ads all over the screen. The front page of Twins Daily features 13 ads by my count. including multiple obnoxious pop-up ones. The forum is a little less aggressive, but every time you click on something new causes the pop-ups to once again resurface. Those ads are even more annoying on mobile...holy smokes.
  14. Yah, that is a big chunk of how it got paid for, was taking into consideration all the tax collection from it. They then added a surcharge to ticket sales to reduce the amount they are paying in the long run. If all they are trying to do is save for renovation over time it is honestly a really easy way to pay for it. Of course the politics around that gets complicated because usually it involves cutting budget from something, helping pay for the stadium, and then all that tax revenue from having the pro team suddenly starts going somewhere else whoever in office wants it to go. So in practice it doesn't really work out how logic should say and instead becomes overly political. Of course part of the problem is the state isn't getting any additional money because the team already exists here. So they would have to cut budget to then send money to a general fund for stadium improvements. If they don't think the team has much ground to stand on to move...the state/government probably won't be running to give them money. Part of the reason it worked for the Bucks is the fact the NBA was going to move them if they didn't get a stadium. So in that case the state did have motivation to help as that lose of money was a very real risk.
  15. Rodgers has already denied the report about him wanting to be the highest paid player/wanting $50mil.
  16. Usually wise to figure out what they tend to wear at said company. Anything extra is unlikely to impress them.
  17. Over $600 million in taxes have been collected for the Miller Park/AMFam construction and maintenance for a 30 year lease. That's $20M per year. The tax revenue to equal that amount (or $20M) to make a net zero in cost to the taxpayers (assuming the current 7.6% top rate) is $263M in payroll. Maybe I missed a few FA signings, but the Brewers aren't even close. You are referring to the past agreement. Really, that is entirely meaningless when it comes to the next lease/agreement. Unless you think they are going to demand a new stadium or leave. Reality is they likely can come to an agreement to keep Miller Park modern/up to date for a fraction of building a new stadium. Thus, it makes sense for both sides. I am going to guess I die before the Brewers leave or get a new stadium....and I am far from dying...hopefully.
  18. The difference is you have zero negotiating power. You are $1,600 by yourself. A pro franchise is worth millions in tax revenue and other various economic impacts. Big companies have such power to get the tax cuts they do because if supply/demand. Now, I do think government entities are starting to learn emotions have been put into these types of deals too much in the past…thus making it look really questionable how much they have give. Teams have easily taken the other side to the cleaners getting way more than they probably should. But thus, there is that pride to have the team. I think things are starting to swing and be more reasonable. Where the teams will get some incentive, but the city/state will still get benefits on their end too. At least more obvious than it is now. AmFam is well set up to last many more decades…if they proactively keep it up to date. If you let it get run down then, yah, suddenly there will be a need for massive renovations or even a new building.
  19. I mean at the end of the day there really is no reason the state/city would not come forward and help update AmFam. Between player salaries and other higher end personnel you have millions a year they bring in. Heck even ticket sales, concessions, etc....At worst you would throw the Brewers that bone back just to keep them around just to have them around. The problem is, so much of the funding comes via city/county...when the state is the one collecting so much of the tax revenue being generated. It doesn't make sense to have the logic of "I don't want to give them a single penny". Why? If they give $2.5mil to makes $7mil a year of tax revenue...why would you not do that?
  20. Really thought we were going to get a Rodgers decision without a cryptic post, darn
  21. Depends what it is. I will screenshot it on my phone for certain things that can be weird on emailing it…or if I don’t know if it will actually email it. It can be helpful during Black Friday when orders can get really messed up etc.
  22. Ah, there's the "After I had time to reflect...." statement we all knew would be coming: https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/status/1495920691883003906/photo/1 That is the, “This is what you are going to say if you want a job after the next five games.”
  23. I’m not a fan of the ‘you just need to figure out how not to make him mad’ narrative as that’s been used since the dawn of time to enable bad behavior in people who can’t control their emotions. I get what you are saying, but at the same time you have to look out for yourself and your players. What if Johnny Davis had gone and threw a punch? What if they lost Gard for a big game like Purdue? I guess I am referring more to trying and confront Howard…not exactly the timeout itself. Confronting Howard is just playing with fire, especially with his history.
  24. Well he was trying to explain himself…but he was also kinda detaining Howard so he could speak his mind. He grabbed Howard and then stepped in front of him. Howard was looking for an argument/fight though and Gard unfortunately gave Howard a (poor) excuse to escalate that. Was calling the timeout kinda silly? Yah…most coaches are just going to not care that much about the turnovers at that point. 99% of the time coaches will brush off and let stuff at the end go. Clearly Howard is not one of those guys. I don’t know that it was wrong to call the timeout though…and the response towards it was kinda ridiculous. I think it’s a learning moment for Gard to avoid anything that is going to incite some negative response like that in the future. For the most part a coach at that point should just go into cruise control and not care what happens good or bad.
  25. If the price is basically free a lot of people associate that with “Hi, $2, come pick up and dispose of my junk.”
