  1. I remember when everyone wished Favre and Rodgers would become Buddy Buddy after Favre retired. Then they did… I wonder if people still wished they became friends now. I think the same with Braun and Yelich. I bet Braun was a huge influence in Yelich signing that big contract as they became best buds after he came to MIL.
  2. I find it really hard to believe Stearns was willing to back up a dump truck for Scherzer (good enough to get him), but seemingly not any other player they had heavy interest in that was more upper shelf. I will stick to the assumption we had zero chance for Scherzer because he didn’t want to come here AND because we wouldn’t offer enough. And while I agree with the sentiment about some people always assuming we can outbid via money or trade capital I also can’t stand people that just assume we couldn’t get a guy because we couldn’t offer enough or they didn’t want to come here. I hate the “we never had a chance because we are a small market/Milwaukee” when there is zero proof that was the case.
  3. He’s ring-chasing, and hate or not, the Dodgers are the logical choice. So I guess there’s only one thing left to do, in the immortal words of Jake Taylor… Technically reports all said west coast. So Dodgers/Padres/Giants/Angels/etc. Because it would frankly be just horrible for 2 months of your life to be in Milwaukee vs LA. How would you even survive not breathing in smoke from wildfires for 2 straight months? Weird take with constant wildfire smoke over Wisconsin right now. And yes I know you were joking…
  4. I mean we got our bat (Escobar) and a couple relievers (Curtiss, Norris) . I know some people will be disappointed and I guess I'm a little underwhelmed but it's basically the exact moves I figured would happen. Its a decent deadline. If you are disappointed, it is because you wanted a massive player at the deadline. To me, there just weren't a ton of those players this year that seemed like great fits for the Brewers. I am glad I didn't feel like we 'needed' one of those big time players.
  5. For just Henry, I really like that trade. Looks like a solid reliever controllable for a long time.
  6. Yah, anyone dreaming of a trade after 3:30pm is going to be disappointed.
  7. I figured one of the AAA catchers were really likely to be trade bait. Not shocked one finally went.
  8. Either team could get a comp pick, could they not? Wouldn't be the first time a team holds onto their guys.
  9. Scrolling through twitter for rumors etc. reminds me the Cubs are most certainly a rival of the Brewers and a team that definitely bothers them. Their fans love to talk about us.
  10. Who says they haven't? We have no idea what other teams have offered for Hader. It is quite obvious that the Brewers have an extremely high value on him. All this deadline is proving is that when the time comes to deal Hader, regardless of how much control is left on him, they are going to get a nice return. It has been well reported in prior years the Brewers had interest in trading Hader. Not sure that was as much the case this last offseason, but it had been in prior years.
  11. How do the Cubs get that for expensive and old Kimbrel, but we could never find a team to back up a dump truck for Hader?
  12. Fangraphs had him as our #6 guy. And not even on the Top 30 according to MLB Pipeline. Which shows how all over the map these prospect ranking services are with no minor league seasons last year. I personally have found MLB Pipeline to be more accurate on prospect valuation over the years, though. Fangraphs has been pretty bad, IMO. Not doubting that, but it does seem to point to the fact he is an intriguing prospect. Something surprising to give up for a pitcher who has kind of sucked his whole career. Not saying he can't or won't be useful, but it does seem like a steep prospect to give up for Norris.
  13. Fangraphs had him as our #6 guy. Like so many others, Olson had a pretty substantial velocity spike during the gap year and has seen his fastball velo band go from the 91-95 range to 93-97. That extra velocity complements an already deep coffer of secondary pitches, which are so good that scouts disagree as to which is the best. His two-plane, 85-87 mph slider and power changeup, which rests in about the same velo range, are both plus pitches while Olson’s upper-70s curveball is merely above-average. I still have some trepidation regarding Olson’s delivery. He’s a stiff-legged, tightly-wound athlete with more mechanical violence than is typical for a starter, but even if those visual biases turn out to be meaningful, we’re talking about a high-leverage and/or multi-inning relief piece here based on how his stuff looks right now. Were the 21-year-old Olson at a Big 10 or ACC school, he’d be in the mid-to-late first round mix.
  14. Except Pomeranz sucked as a starter and then improved when he went to the pen. Norris sucked in the bullpen and we are...keeping him in the bullpen.
  15. Thought this was a joke...but nope. https://www.treehugger.com/why-millionaire-pitcher-daniel-norris-lives-in-a-van-4868265 I feel like he and Sutter will become good friends. Him and Suter are camping in the Miller Park lot from now on.
  16. Rumor has it Daniel Norris lives in a VW van during the offseason.
  17. Reese Olson to Tigers to complete the trade.
  18. Booking my hotel for late October and taking off work. Clearly one of those instances where they think they can change something in order for him to be successful because on the surface he has pretty terrible numbers. At least the cost won't be high. I think they are simply acquiring him to be a lefty specialist. He is absolutely terrible against RH batters....like .900+ OPS bad. .200 average and .555 OPS against LH hitters. .277 SLG I don't think they really expect to fix that. Certainly not when it is essentially August.
  19. Booking my hotel for late October and taking off work.
  20. I mean if Daniel Norris can be considered an upgrade in the bullpen I am sure we could find someone we consider an upgrade at 1B or 3B.
  21. This makes me think this guy is full of it though. Usually you never know what the Brewers are doing until Rosenthal tweets "X player going to the Brewers". Very rarely do our trades get leaked before they happen. There are two sides to each trade. Even if you believe the Brewers never have leaks come out on their end (debatable) the other side may not have quite as tight lipped of an organization.
  22. Brewers Related Jason Beck @beckjason Tigers in talks with Brewers on Daniel Norris, I’m told. 12:27 PM · Jul 30, 2021·Twitterrific for iOS Adam McCalvy @AdamMcCalvy Here's a possible bullpen arm for the Brewers. Norris has held LHBs to a .200 AVG, .555 OPS this season.
  23. Mark Feinsand @Feinsand The Twins pulled off the biggest deal of Deadline day thus far by sending Berríos to the Blue Jays for two Top-100 prospects, but sources say they're not done. Plenty more to trade, including Michael Pineda, Hansel Robles, Tyler Duffey and possibly Max Kepler or Byron Buxton.
  24. Maybe my memory is wrong, but this doesn’t feel true at all. While some deals are announced after 3pm they are almost always announced in the few minutes after. The prospects involved are usually like any other deal and announced at about the same time, but maybe takes a little bit.
  25. He may have control, but he is into arbitration now. Not sure Vogelbach is really worth anything. If you want to spend a few million on some fringe MLB player the world is full of them.
