  1. Sometimes I pull out all the old games I went to and try to challenge myself to remember one memorable moment from each. Luckily I haven't been to too many dud games where it was non eventful. Some of my notable ones in recent years that weren't "big" games: Cody Ransom Grand Slam Giancarlo Stanton HBP in Face Khris Davis Bernie's Slide HR (one of my favorite in person homeruns) Ichiro's 500th Steal (Mattingly also pulled a pitcher after 7.2 innings of a no-hitter) Brent Suter HR
  2. Projections are cool, but for a guy like Lindblom it usually isn’t high reliability. He has zero recent track record at the MLB level before 2021 unless you go back nearly a decade and he is in his mid 30s. Maybe some stats hint at some bad luck, but he has been pretty horrendous since getting to Milwaukee. Not sure how long you cling to him before you just accept a loss. Now would probably be a bit mature.
  3. Any car dealership can figure this out. People buy cars across country all the time. If it isn’t right next door the dealer will have to do a little more digging on what they need to do, but everyone has the ability. I’m sure any dealer in any state can print of the temp tag for you. I know a lot of people who have gone great lengths for the best deal and every other state purchased in set everything up for them. As for someone paying double tax (like WI plus AZ), no, that would never happen. You pay where you are going to register it. You should ask the dealer before purchasing, but I doubt they will have any problems setting it all up.
  4. I could see it as a problem from a competitive standpoint. It certainly favors the defense being able to add confusion with numbers. Yah, you do film...but for the second, third, or even fourth guy in a rotation? You will know JJ Watt regardless of number, but not lesser known guys. Definitely some room for confusion on the offense. Not sure any team would actually do it, but seems like you’d want some guys with the classic “normal” number and then have the rotational guys have weird numbers. As teams get used to the new number concept a team early in the season it could be pretty advantageous.
  5. I specifically stated that I don't see a scientific justification. I did not comment on social, political, or enforcement justifications. I also did not quote your post nor refer to your post. It was not in response to you.
  6. Seen it a quite a few times, usually hits the batters helmet. Can’t say I recall an instance where someone was on base and advanced though.
  7. This is one of those gift situations you just gotta take advantage of.
  8. Allowing vaccinated people to not wear a mask is a free pass for the anti-mask (and probably anti-vaccine crowd) to not wear their mask. I mean think about it, are you going to have a vaccine card checker at Walmart like you are getting into a movie?
  9. I remember when he was all the rage as a prospect when the rest of the farm system sucked (at least it seemed that way via rankings). Feels like a century ago, but probably only 7-8 years.
  10. How do you even know this? Nobody here even knows how to begin quantifying that. The fact is that these teams don't dole out these contracts from the goodness of their heart. There are so many things you'd need to know to quantify this and attendance is just one. There is value he provides in winning/attendance, then there is retail merchandise, there's community outreach in which he's very involved, there's sponsorships, not just his own, but when Associated Bank or Gehl or whoever partners with the Brewers, you can bet that Yelich doing a 30-second read or posing for a poster they can throw in the lobby is the reason why they do it. It's really easy for Brewerfan to dismiss it and say "nobody opens a checking account because of Christian Yelich," but the fact is that these companies are making those deals because they know it's worth it. That is my opinion. Sure, there are non monetary gains...but whether that is worth the contract or not is somewhat subjective to ones personal opinion on the value that brings. Who knows, maybe Attanasio just likes flexing a MVP player and will lose millions just to have them on the team for the rest of their career. Much like the Braun contract I think the Brewers are dishing it out hoping/betting that he can keep it together long enough to be a HOF talent. That's where the long term value lies and probably what would make a huge difference. If he ends up cratering like Braun and missing the HOF he probably doesn't end up like Yount and live on for decades. Is he a stream of revenue for the next 8 years or the next 50 years?
  11. Yelich provides value past his performance, but it will never surpass the money spent on him. As someone else said part of it is the prestige of just saying you have him or were able to lock him up for basically the rest of his career. I am not overly worried about the contract. I looked it up yesterday and when the Braun contract started he was just outside the Top 20 salaries in baseball. #20 was about $21.5mil and Braun's contract averaged $21mil if I recall correctly. Right now Yelich's $26mil would have him in the Top 20 salaries, but with signings this offseason he probably gets nudged out. Of course both have/had deferred money which makes the contracts more favorable for the Brewers. Yelich's deal should be similar to Braun's when it comes to impact on the payroll.
  12. Well they are power rankings...which basically throws out anything but current performance to that point. Many of the teams with a better record that are below them are teams like the Royals/Giants who do not have real expectations to compete this year. So when you have a red hot pitching staff that is being hyped, a good record, and a good run differential you tend to fly up a ranking like this.
  13. Yah...I totally can't get on board that Yelich is a major reason and draws big crowds from outside the local area to games. The biggest draws to get people 3+ hours from games is tailgating and the roof. Those people usually only go to a few games a year anyway and its more for the experience...not the on the field product. I don't think performance sways the long distance Brewers crowd to much, at least for in game attendance. Certainly there is some increase to games attended, but big attendance swings are via the local crowd.
  14. You say that as if they haven’t tried to lock these guys up and the players said no. I’d bet my life Woodruff has at least been offered a Freddy Peralta type deal in the past. I mean why would they offer it to Peralta and never Woodruff? Maybe even Burnes too. I’m guessing they try to lock up guys a lot and we never end up hearing about it.
  15. We definitely did not play like we wanted to win...can’t score a guy from 2nd with zero outs two innings in a row and can’t run the bases correctly. Then lose with the bat on the shoulder. Losing a series to the Pirates, kinda brutal.
  16. Well, like college football, hope to just tie it up and live for another round. If we score two even better!
  17. Cmon he has had 30 ABs this year, his power hasn’t turned Sogard level...small sample size that looks more extreme since its early in the season. Last year was his career worst year yet half of his hits went for extra bases. Okay? I wasn’t claiming he was going to do it all year. Just throwing out his power hasn’t been there last year or this year. Regarding to the other comment about his homers, yah, he was probably on 30 HR pace last year...but his doubles were way down. His slugging percentage was about pre-Milwaukee levels (.430). That’s not bad...but we aren’t paying him to hit like his Miami days. Also doesn’t help his steals have been non existent the last few years. If that’s not a thing anymore just another way he won’t be adding value. I don’t know how he will fair, but I understand how some are already looking at it in negative light.
  18. Maybe not vintage Freddy, but not exactly uncommon either. Freddy has a lot of inefficient outings. I mean maybe my understanding of the word ‘vintage’, but I think this was exactly like vintage Freddy. Historically he is pretty inefficient and doesn’t go deep into games. Difference is vintage Freddy usually gave up 3-4 runs while doing it...2021 Freddy put up zeros. I’m totally okay with 5 inning Freddy if it isn’t overly common and he puts up zeros. Probably lucky he was facing the Pirates today though....a better team probably doesn’t put up 5 innings of zeros.
  19. I think the concern people have with the injuries is it’s just another problem he is having since he signed that deal. Until he really starts mashing at an MVP level again I think every little negative is going to raise people’s eyebrows. His utter lack of power is probably the most concerning thing because it was what took him from fringe All Star to MVP. He was hitting like pre-Milwaukee days last year and this year he has as much pop as Eric Sogard. If he doesn’t get his power back this deal will be a total disaster even if he plays 162 games a year because he probably just won’t have the .900+ OPS we banked on for over a half a decade minimum.
  20. Reality was they could have: A) Let Yelich walk for a comp pick at arguably the height of competitive baseball in franchise history. (I don’t think there was any chance of them trading him while competitive...much like Fielder) or B) Sign him to this big deal. Much like the Braun deal I think they saw a rare opportunity to make a guy a career Brewer and (at the time it seemed like) have a player enter the HOF as a Brewer. The Yount generation is quickly aging and the younger generations don’t have that all-time great to cling to. Braun probably would have been that if not for his PED fallout. Now we have Yelich who may not be elite anymore, may be injury prone, or both. Too early to predict what will happen with Yelich, but I really hope it isn’t imploding in our face before 30 years old. If he turns out to be a disaster of a contract we should probably stop handing out massive contracts that start going downhill before the ink can even dry.
  21. People like to hype up his defense like it is some positive, but really, at SS it isn’t anything special. Not saying it is bad, but it isn’t going to help him keep a roster spot if his bat doesn’t work. He needs a plus bat to be valuable.
  22. Yah the problem with Woodruff is the age he hits FA. Like you said you would probably need to add at least 3 years. If he signs a deal it erases his only real shot for a huge FA payday...so I would guess he would want to deal longer at that point. So many players take these deals and mention they will always have a chance at big money later on, but that wouldn’t be the case for Woodruff (in all likelihood). Honestly, his situation is really similar to Lucroy. You almost don’t even want him longer than you already do. Maybe another year or two extra...but that isn’t much extra control for all the risk.
  23. Hope Williams isn’t a one year wonder. We have been spoiled with Hader year after year we forget the finicky nature of bullpen arms. Williams was so fun to watch last year, would suck if that 1-2 punch isn’t there this year.
