  1. It doesn't matter though because the throw was not coming from behind him. Thus, according to the umpire and apparently the rule, he can decide to run wherever he would like as long as he stays on that same line. It is no different than a batter rounding first 20 feet in foul territory to run to second, is that suppose to be running out of the baseline? No, because the player isn't trying to be tagged.
  2. Yah, but he was so far from first when he got to Godley. He could have angled over still and honestly he probably could have dived to touch first all while never moving over if we are being honest. The fact he is out by so much is somewhat irrelevant to the rule. He start his path in the grass and eventually got to Godley. Rereading the umps explanation it seems to me the moment of obstruction is when Godley flips the ball and just stands there. At that point Godley is no longer “making a play” on the ball and the ump sees him as an obstruction. This sounds kind of ridiculous (honestly it is), but if you imagine a hypothetical scenario where Vogelbach drops the ball then you would totally see how what Godley did was an obstruction to running to first. The ump seemed convinced Diaz had to slow up before Vogelbach had secured the out at first. This is probably right because Vogelbach did not catch the ball on first and took ten years to actually touch the bag. This makes the play end up appearing much closer than it was in reality. Again, I think the umpire should have used some some common sense and just ate the whistle so to speak...but I am still a bit convinced what he called was potentially correct by rule. This is like the catch rule in the NFL. We all think it shouldn’t be interference...but what does the rule say?
  3. Well the ump is basically saying a base path is irrelevant because the runner to first was not impeding a throw. If it would have been a bunt attempt and Diaz was in the grass interfering with a throwing lane he would have been in the wrong. However, since that was not the case instead the pitcher was in the wrong. I don’t think the ump was trying to be the center of attention. I think he just really knew the rule book and was going to follow it no matter the situation. Of course, again, I am assuming his explanation he gave really reflects the rule book definition. I don’t read the rule book that intently myself
  4. If the umpires explanation of the rule is right, the call was right. You may think it is a dumb rule at that point, but the call would be 100% right. If you watch the video Isan Diaz is way out in front of the pitch and as a lefty that usually causes a lefty to end up pretty far forward when they start to run to first. He clearly started his ‘runners lane’ in the grass, he DOES NOT run over into the grass midway to first. It also really didn’t look like he made any meaningful attempt to run into the pitcher. Isan Diaz started his lane to first in the grass and kept that same direction all the way down. You may argue he would have had to go over to touch first eventually, but he was impeded well before he got near first to do that. Again, I think it is pretty dumb the rule could call something like that interference. You just think, come in man, just not follow the rule by the book and use discretion. It reminds me of how technically a batter is required to avoid a pitch (I think) and suddenly an ump decides to call it a strike for not trying to move. BUUUUT the way the umpire described the rule, it was the correct call I guess.
  5. Hopefully Feliciano turns out to be the real deal. He is certainly a decent prospect on the horizon. Of course I would be more optimistic if he didn't wiff and miss strikes at high rates like Keston Hiura.
  6. Tough luck losing him, but is what it is. Hopefully this one doesn't come back to bite us with Pina being ancient and only controlling Narvaez another year. Always thought Nottingham would be an okay back-up catcher. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be more than that.
  7. Even JJ himself admitted no team wants to touch him with a 10 foot pole. Probably a good reason for that even if he doesn't think so himself. As far as Rick Procello, meh, can't say he is any flashier than the fodder we have sitting around as is.
  8. Funny how pretty much everyone wanted to get rid of Aguilar at the time when his OPS floated around .700 (myself included as a disclaimer). If we did that with all our players from last year and likely this year we wouldn't have enough guys to field a team. Now I wish some guys would hit .700. Our 1B last year and this year have been so unbelievably bad its pretty sad even the Aguilar of then would be a vast improvement...let alone was he has done 2020/2021. Unfortunate realities of a competing team. Just don't have space sometimes to hoard "figure it out" guys.
  9. Youth sports have turned into garbage for the most part. Kids are way too hard on themselves worried about if they are bad or good. If they don't deem themselves amazing they want to quit. Probably due to the endless side coaching by parents on how they can be better etc. I coached entry level t-ball and kids wanted to be so competitive, didn't understand it at all. Hard on kids that weren't good, wanted the best players to play all the time, made comments about how their dad said ___ wasn't good and shouldn't even play. You definitely can't play "just to have fun" and that starts at a pretty young age. Mind you this wasn't in some fancy Milwaukee suburb, this was rural Wisconsin where you are not expected to try and be a college athlete in the future. I get it, I liked playing sports...but to call it 'having fun' just seems like a stretch in retrospect. I won't care if my kids decide to play sports competitively or not. All I care about is they want to learn enough to play in the backyard or in the driveway...where having fun is actually the priority and only requirement to playing. There is still value in youth sports, but overall any time I experience it I just walk away a little disgusted. Intramural sports in college were by far the most fun I ever had playing sports. Because the expectations were zero, your talent level was pretty meaningless, and afterwards the outcome wasn't life or death.
  10. Much like everyone wanting to bench Garcia after his blunder, Counsell getting ejected just to get ejected would have been rather pointless. Appease some fans, maybe, but doesn't do much good outside of that.
  11. JBJ has basically been an average-ish bat over the past 5 seasons of his career, while playing very good defense. If you thought that he was signed primarily for his offensive value, I'd argue that your assumption was statistically unreasonable. Well, all I can say is they didn't give $13mil for him to hit like crap and bring good but not elite defense. Clearly the Brewers themselves had him hitting average at least, if not maybe a bit more hitting in Miller Park half his time. If not they could have signed one of about many dozens guys that could provide no offense and even better defense than Bradley Jr for 1/13th the price.
  12. Sometimes people ask questions in here and I don't respond cause I know someone else will...this is a prime example of why. haha
  13. Possibly gambling on Godley not really be that stretched out or the Brewers not really planning on him going long.
  14. Most of the critiquing is largely aimed at Garcia and Bradley Jr. though. Garcia was definitely acquired for offense and I am not sure why Bradley Jr. wouldn't be viewed the same way. Why would they spend $13mil on Lorenzo Cain defense insurance? Could have done that for $1mil. We already had an expensive likely defense only CFer in Cain...we didn't need another guy that was similar.
  15. I always like Escobar, actually. Regarding JJ, lets be honest, he has consistently be an issue his entire career. Luckily in his time here we avoided it all. That being said the upside is getting pretty limited and he keeps adding baggage every time the bus stops. He can blame his old agent all he wants, but I doubt every team in baseball is avoiding him like the plague over his crazy ex agent saying some stuff. Wish him lucky straightening out his personal life stuff...but I personally don't have much interest in him coming to Milwaukee again.
  16. Who are those players though? Avisail Garcia? Definitely not Jackie Bradley Jr? A good part is expected to be defense, but you don't spend $13mil for good, but not elite CF defense. Billy Hamilton can't even get a MLB deal in the winter. Luis Urias? His defense is fine, but that isn't a defensive first player. Keston Hiura? Definitely not 3B? No Yelich? No Cain? At this point in his career, probably yes Omar Narvaez? No Wong? Probably a good chunk of why we got him Defense or not we signed a guy like Bradley Jr. to probably have an OPS around .725. Garcia they were probably hoping for closer to .750. Obviously both of those guys are well below those figures. Defense should be taken out of the equation when we look at their offense. Are these guys hitting like we expected them to or not? For many of them...no, not even close. Obviously that bar is set much lower for a defensive guy like Bradley Jr., but even he is underperforming by a lot so far. Just because you are good on defense doesn't mean you can just hit for a .450 OPS and not be a problem offensively.
  17. Not necessarily saying people truly believe it doesn't matter at all....just that any time someone wants to critique something offense related many want to shoot it down as a topic because the team isn't made to score 5.5 runs a game. Now if people want to discount it a bit because it is April 28th, fair enough, but many times the argument or a large part of the argument is the fact the team is defense/pitching first. I don't think that is an excuse to not question how we spent $20+mil on guys that can't get their OPS over .700 or didn't spend money on guys with more legitimate offensive track records.
  18. The saddest part about this line up is it is arguably the best line up with the players we have this year and how they have all performed...minus Yelich not being in. If he was healthy you would probably just shift Taylor to CF, McKinney to RF, and Yelich to LF. Hiura sucks, Arcia finally dumped, Cain injured/not playing well, Garcia sucks. While I like me a feel good story in McKinney/Taylor, I hope some of the vets start looking better.
  19. Yah, this is honestly one of the only major things about streaming that bothers me. You just can't hit refresh crazy often on the IGT or just don't allow my dad to come over with his stupid sports app pinging every time someone scores in the game. I don't know how he watches a game on delay and still have his stupid app giving notifications. Regarding ATT TV, are you sure that wouldn't have a delay too? I only ask because it kind of seems like ATT TV is more like a streaming service using internet, so I would think it would have a long delay too. That is how it was with Hulu/YTTV before they dropped RSNs.
  20. Who said that? It was been inferred endlessly any time someone complains about the offense. It is basically something along the lines of, "This is a pitching and defense first team." That is true, but I don't think the people that are complaining are mad the team isn't Top 3 in baseball when it comes to offense. I think they are upset a plethora of Stearns acquisitions/FA signings have been brutal. Bradley Jr. has been pretty terrible and Garcia has been terrible dating back to last year. Additionally, Garcia really isn't a defense first player. He was signed to hit. While Bradley Jr is a nice defensive player I don't think there is any chance he was signed with expectations less than at least average offensively. Its early, but its understandable people are upset we aren't getting more out of these guys. $20mil+ for no offense out of them is pretty brutal as both were signed to improve our offense and in theory probably provide some stability in the line up. Neither has done that in there time here yet. Stearns has got to find way to efficiently find offense if he wants a pitching/defense first team. Last year it was a bit rough and this year has not started off too promising. Hopefully guys like Bradley Jr/Shaw/Garcia can turn it around and be a bit more reliable with the bat in their hands.
  21. In 2018 he lead the league in: Wild Pitches - 17 (2nd place was 11) Hit By Pitches - 12 (Tied technically with two others) So you would want 2017 magic.
  22. Would be kind of annoying. I bought one of those cheaper TCLs for this reason because I wouldn't need to waste money on an Apple TV or similar. I think I would just buy a cheap Apple TV to bridge to gap at that point I suppose. Don't think I feel like switching to Hulu as YTTV has a better line up for my tastes. Have you checked out Sling? The single stream limitation for the orange channels would be a deal breaker, unfortunately. From my understanding I would likely run into problems trying to chuck 3 different games up onto three different TVs in my basement. Of course maybe a lot of the NFL carrying channels or march madness channels would be on the 'blue' side of sling. Regular season basketball/football for college would almost surely be a problem though. ...I know...first world problems.
  23. It isn't more expensive or even close in price in most cases. You don't need a special TV...but most smart TVs have streaming apps already on them, thus no need for an external source. Smart TVs are cheap anyway and non smart TVs are increasingly rare. Even if you need an external box (an Apple TV) it would be a one time cost and you can probably get one for under $100. Way better than the cable scam of making you pay $10+ a month to rent a box. People don't pay for multiple TV streaming services. People may have Netflix etc. too, but that is irrelevant. You either have YTTV/Hulu/etc. or cable/dish/etc. People with cable also juggle Netflix/Disney+ if they so choose.
  24. Which means nothing as far as Tyrone Taylor is concerned. Taylor needs to play. It's obvious to me, it's obvious to most. Hopefully it is becoming obvious to Counsell. If he cools off, sure, sit him down, but all he has done so far is hit! Play him! Yah, maybe the league figures him out and he turns into a fringe MLB bat...but might as well ride it as far as you can. I say the same with pitchers, sometimes those nothing special pitchers make their debut and put up video game numbers even though they aren't that good. I remember Mike Fiers being ridiculous when he first came up. People always think the Brewers have some curse where pitchers make their debut and dominate the Brewers, that isn't unique to us...happens a lot. Tyrone Taylor has been smacking every ball with authority so it isn't just some bloop hit luck. He has honestly played really well.
