  1. It isn’t officially Spring Training until Braun says it.
  2. No certainty that the Brewers were willing to meet in the middle though. They might have been confident in their case and not willing to compromise their baseline for Hader by meeting at 5.25 or whatever. Maybe they were willing to negotiate as high as 4.5M and Hader wasn't interested in settling that far off his ask. There may have not met in the middle, but I am sure they would have gone somewhere a touch under $5mil...maybe right on $5mil. Probably not past that.
  3. His projection was $4.6mil...and those are extremely accurate all things considered. He gambled instead of meeting in the middle thus lost some money. Not really the Brewers fault they were trying to make a huge statement case for relievers and lost. Big loss for Hader probably worth a solid $15mil+ in earnings. He has three more years of arbitration and that amount x4 alone is $8.2mil (including this years loss). Then you have to take into consideration the raises for the next three years of that lost salary.
  4. Innings limits are largely age based these days. Teams don’t follow the strict guidelines they once did. At 27 they likely wouldn’t limit him. I’d be concerned about his overall effectiveness if he started pushing 180+ just because he isn’t used to that.
  5. A hamate bone fracture is a tad more predictable than a throwing shoulder injury... I wouldn't bet on him being opening day ready, but I also don't think it matters much. He is Luis Urias...not Christian Yelich. Opening Day or 2 weeks late, it isn't much of a loss.
  6. Rehab assignment is tricky because minor league games don't start until a week or two after MLB games. Most likely he'd hang in extended spring if he only need an extra week or two. It's one thing to be ready to play, but it's another thing for a guy who has yet to have major league success...to be ready to succeed at the MLB level. Extended Spring Training, I believe they play games.
  7. Where in a heck is Joc Pederson playing? He would have been a nice target pre-Garcia...but not really now. He cannot play a goof CFer so I don't see him all that useful. Stripling? Yah, I wouldn't mind that. I think he is a pretty good player...somewhat underrated.
  8. I don't think this was a league-wide problem. Any information of trash can banging or similar for any other team...nope. Any evidence of live sign stealing like that anywhere else? Doesn't appear so. If sign stealing was to these extremes anywhere else it would have popped up by now. Also it appears while the Yankees may have been ahead of the times, the quote makes it pretty obvious it wasn't Astros level bad. If it was why would McCann ask them to stop doing it. I think Beltran wanted to be "ahead of the times" in Houston which meant even worse than what he saw in NY. Sign stealing isn't a new revelation...nor is using technology to some extent. They didn't suspend players because they wanted them to talk...I think that was the main goal. It would have been nearly impossible to find enough information on their own to figure out what was going on let alone suspend players over it.
  9. They need to just stop doing that. No one cares about those stupid games. It is an 81 home game schedule. No one wants to pay Opening Day prices for an April weekend game or any other weekend for that matter. It is an even worse deal these days because the Brewers intentionally avoid putting giveaways on those days because they don't want a bunch of Cubs fans to get them just to resell on eBay. The games are simply a terrible value for a Brewers fan. Cubs fans go because for many it is closer than Wrigley and it is way more convenient to get to regardless. Many come from the western 'burbs because it sucks that bad to go to Wrigley. Our stadium is simply that much better and prices are comparable. So when the Brewers make it Opening Day prices it doesn't faze Cubs fans because they are used to paying an arm and a leg for a normal game.
  10. Yup, he has been a popular topic in the whole thing due to his perceived frequency of the sign stealing and huge outlier year at the same time.
  11. While I think Wisconsin holds themselves to a much higher standard than other universities when it comes to athletics/athletes...it is foolish to think it is perfect. I am sure there are bad apples, poor characters, and shady things happening. I think people assume Wisconsin is this perfect university with no problems in athletics, it likely isn’t.
  12. Marwin Gonzalez first player to put forth a somewhat true apology. I believe Gonzalez was a major recipient of trash can bangs too.
  13. At least we aren’t the Royals begging fans to buy Opening Day tickets with no fees.
  14. It isn't hilarious if you understand anything about statistics. That scenario involves every single player have the best possible year and being nearly 100% healthy. If you bet on under 90 wins your potential winnings would probably have to be paid out in half pennies. The graph is cool and shows the perceived floor and ceiling. Also the likelihood off said ceiling. You can see the Cubs have much more scenarios that see them overperforming as their "ceiling tail" stays fatter a lot longer. I think those graphs are probably fairly accurate if you just ignore the numbers they represent. Kind of shows the volatility of each roster.
  15. 7 playoff teams? Okay. The clown show proposed, no thanks.
  16. To be honest I think they need to invest high in the draft and in FA at WR. I think they greatly need someone able to step up and be reliable right away, but Rodgers is 50 years old. Getting the next great WR in the mix for 2021 and beyond is really important too in my opinion. I also don't think they have invested in the WR position all that much. They have been terrible drafting, but what do you expect when you are using 5th round picks or worse? There is a reason those guys are 5th rounders or beyond. Skill positions on offense are usually high draft picks. There are diamonds in the rough etc., but to get a sure fire guy the first few rounds is where they are. Past the 3rd round here are recent Packer WRs that had 1,000+ receiving yards in their CAREER: MVS - 2018 Draft Pick (5th Rounder) Donald Driver - 1999 Draft Pick (7th Rounder) It is probably about time to just take a trip to the jewelry store for a diamond instead of aimlessly digging a hole in the backyard hoping to find one.
  17. 4-3 is fine, anything worse knocks them out barring a very deep Big Ten tourney run. As I mentioned before those losses would look really really bad. From here on out they are either playing other bubble teams or just flat out horrible teams. If you assumed 4 losses that weren't Nebraska or NW you are assuming they lose 4/5 of: Purdue, Rutgers, Michigan, Minnesota, and Indiana. Considering this would give them double losses against 3 other bubble teams you really are not doing yourself any favors. Hard to be put in over a team when they beat you twice. I think I would bet on them going 5-2 over 3-4 though.
  18. The Q1 wins are nice, but it is kinda hard to ignore a barely above .500 record and a below .500 conference record. Not to mention their remaining schedule would be two teams that throttled them, Rutgers who beat them, and then a road game against Michigan. The rest are not too scary. The best case is probably only two losses in that stretch, realistically. That would leave them at 18-13 (with a hypothetical loss today). I don’t think they can afford many losses at this point when you consider the losses are either against other bubble teams or they would be really bad losses (Nebraska/Northwestern). Not really any games you’d expect to lose like Maryland/Mich St. Of course there is always the Big Ten tourney to make some noise and look good...but not exactly something you want to depend on.
  19. Almost seems like the Badgers need a win today. If not they really have used up all the wiggle room they have. A home loss to another bubble team is just not impressive. Their schedule isn’t terrible comparatively to some of the other bubble Big Ten teams, but it sure isn’t a cake walk either the way the season has gone. They could really use a win to help get off the bubble and then try and get out of the 8/9 seed line possibility.
  20. These are indeed “moment” bobbleheads too. They released a pic of the Hank Aaron one and it was like his return to Milwaukee. No one wants a Juan Nieves, fine...but make it the Yount diving catch. Too bad. Oh well I suppose.
  21. They are terrible for the crops etc...while it sounds wasteful to kill them and leave them if you read the article it does explain why. A) They are not eligible to be donated and B) Critters/birds get to them fast where they go bad. Oddly it is a decent way to kill a bunch of them efficiently. It sounds bad, but they are incredibly destructive. Also oddly enough it is good for the economy that people can make a business out of it and help landowners/farmers at the same time. Many people do indeed shoot them and recover them to eat. That is most common. The problem is there are so many it gets to the point you don’t want the meat and as stated you can’t donate the meat.. They love when out of staters come to shoot them because not only are they obviously helping kill some, but they also want the meat. The whole helicopter thing is not very common...makes a good article though.
  22. Didn’t they just pass something so the carriers had the ability to block it before we even get the calls?
  23. I think the Braun contract would have been a fine overpay/bad deal had he not destroyed his image. The Brewers hadn't had a true franchise player in a long time. Braun was a HOF potential talent that they could be a modern day Yount figure. Having such a player can help put you on the map and excite an entire generation of fans that don't really connect with Yount. Once they had a chance to do that with a deal that was possible for a small market, they took it. Of course he ruined his image in less than a year, then eventually got suspended, and then had his production start to become shaky with all the injuries. He really doesn't hold the post-career and off the field appeal they were banking on. The contract looked like a mistake before it even started. I am sure they will pitch a similar extension to Yelich eventually, but him saying yes is likely reserved to your dreams.
  24. Doesn’t really sound like King is using this to his advantage. I don’t know what exactly gives that notion. If that was the case he would be throwing this coach under the bus and claim it is why he left. This incident wasn’t mentioned in his reasoning for leaving or even inferred. All the stuff he broadly explained in the interview soon after his announcement seems to outline more serious problems than a coach quoting a racial slur in a NBA player quote. He specifically blamed Gard. He thanked this coach in his announcement and again after this coach resigned. When he mentioned this incident to UW officials it doesn’t even sound like he mentioned the name of the coach. If he is trying to spin this as some BS way to get a waiver he is doing a pretty darn poor job.
  25. That was the same logic used for Braun. Didn’t work out. Yelich is pretty irrelevant to TV deals I would think. He alone does not put us on national TV by himself either...you have to be a good baseball team. A good part of his national attention is because we are good right now. I’m not sure how Stearns can be regarded as cheap and hand out a mega deal at the same time.
