  1. As expected the Brewers will be represented by: Yelich Grandal Moustakas Hader
  2. Christian Yelich could actually surprise one in the derby. He hits that ball hard almost every time he swings. Even his ground outs often after rockets. Going for homers he could smack a lot of them out. I’m surprised people still believe it ruins a swing or it is the reason players struggle in the second half. Someone did a pretty deep study on the topic and there was no correlation between second half slumps and the HR Derby participants. Non HR Derby participants struggled just as much and sometimes notably worse than HR Derby participants. The All Star game is simply loaded with half year wonders and people that are on unsustainable paces. A notably worse second half is just reality.
  3. Why does his defense make him a liability instantly? Being poor in the OF is a lot different than sucking in the infield. While I don’t think anyone can sleep on the importance of good OF defense it doesn’t have a huge overall impact in the grand scheme. As a 130 OPS+ player he can be poor on defense. Everyone thinks Moustakas is just mashing it with the bat and Santana isn’t too far off that offensively. I guess I always find it interesting defense can carry you, but offense can’t.
  4. Santana WAS a 4th OF for the Brewers. So they traded a 4th OF and got back a 4th OF and a pitcher. Plus now the 4th OF is a decent defender who can play all 3 OF positions. Santana was and never will be a 4th OFer. He just had nowhere to play here and had an impossible road back to playing time here after early struggles. We 100% gave up the better and more valuable player...but we got something we needed for something we couldn’t use. I think people are really trying to find any way to devalue Santana, but the guy is still solid. I don’t think we have some huge loss on our hands (or any loss really), but let’s not pretend Santana isn’t a good player. I don’t regret them trading him because we flat out had to and he had nowhere to play here. They weren’t eating Braun’s contract and dumping him. Santana>Braun...but let’s be honest and just accept that wasn’t ever going to happen. Even then it isn't like Santana is some 4 WAR player. He is just solid.
  5. I think the Mariners won this trade on paper...but reality is this is a win-win trade. We couldn’t keep Santana and had to trade him. So the fact we got a solid 4th OFer is a pretty good get in all reality. I mean sure the Mariners got an actual starter and we got a 4th OFer, but we didn’t need another starting OFer. Gamel serves a purpose, Santana just did not. These things will happen when you have a good roster and are competing.
  6. Well if we assume Hader would command similar (I don’t think he would), yes. But those kind of idiotic packages aren’t sent by teams often. That was a ton of crazy good MLB ready talent. And seeing what they have done now makes the answer quite obvious. You would probably need that kind of massive MLB ready package to even consider it.
  7. Personally I would have gone with it being a Travis-ty. This is amazing. Go grab yourself your preferred beverage and a bowl of corn flakes.
  8. If the Brewers even considered trading Hader whoever responsible should be require to eat sugarless pissed in corn flakes that are past their best by date. If they want to compete in the short term you aren’t trading Woodruff, Yelich, and Hiura. There are a few other guys where trading them makes little sense if we are trying to compete next year etc....but maybe you could find a way where it is okay.
  9. You can come piss in my cornflakes cause I wouldn’t eat those nasty things anyway.
  10. My gosh at least wait for us to not be in a postseason spot.
  11. Bat speed can do magical things. Weeks had 30 homer power on that alone too. Though Weeks was much much more a line drive hitter and really never tried to hit homers. I expected Hiura to end up the same way and have more doubles power, but this year a lot have left the park. Not sure if he changed something going into the year to get more launch angle or not. Regardless it will be interesting to see if the HR power is legit or if he is having a bit of luck this year.
  12. Any year where we compete that doesn’t include a major collapse or require a major streak to end it just to be “in the hunt”. So translation 2012 and 2014 weren’t successful to me. For the Brewers being in the race start to end is success in an incredibly hard sport. I suppose you could have successful rebuilding years, but that is getting way too technical. If you look at our history and other similar teams just competing is successful and a postseason birth is special. Sad reality.
  13. For all the flak huge contracts at 30+ get...Max Scherzer, what a contract. Someone go back in time and offer him 10/$300mil.
  14. [sarcasm]No one is going to mention how the offense sucked and blew the game once again?[/sarcasm]
  15. Or maybe a guy doesn’t need to bat at the top of the order constantly. No one said bench him and as I said even in his best years he isn’t a huge bat anyway. Any regression makes him average. His walk rate last year was also a notable outlier compared to any other season...expecting that as the norm could be wrong.
  16. Cain was one of the top WAR guys in baseball last year and now you don’t even want him in the lineup? His WAR is double that of Bryce Harper’s this season... I am sure you could have understood I was referring to higher in the line up and not in the line up instead of him. Mostly because everyone knows they play entirely different positions and neither could do the other position. I am not sure what this years WAR was to do with anything (as all his WAR comes from defense) or why Bryce Harper for that matter. But of course I wasn't talking about dumping Cain to the bench so it doesn't really matter I guess.
  17. I would put Keston Hiura over Lorenzo Cain in the batting order quite confidently and I am not a Hiura bandwagoner. I don't think it can really be stated how absolutely terrible Cain has been this year at the plate. At 33 years old who knows how well he can hit long term. In all reality he was never a big time hitter anyway. Small sample or not, but I feel like Hiura hitting for an .800 OPS is way more likely than Cain doing it at 33.
  18. Thought Davies was throwing painfully slow today. He has been on a steady decline for what seems to be the 5 start in a row. Though here in the third he is getting up to 88mph or so a bit more consistently than the start of the game. https://www.fangraphs.com/graphs.aspx?playerid=13183&position=P&pitchgraphs=true&statArr=&legend=1&split=base&time=game&start=2017&end=2019&rtype=mult&gt1=15&dStatArray=SI&ymin=&ymax=
  19. I don't know the explanation....but having to do with being homegrown or not I promise you has nothing to do with it. That just doesn't really make any sense to me. Also Knebel isn't homegrown and his demotion lasted a grand 3.2 innings before getting recalled on September 1st. Likely only demoted to shuffle the roster until September. Hardly much of a demotion.
  20. I don't see them demoting him. Overall this year he has been pretty passable. With that being said dating back to the start of last year his sOPS+ has been 45 or less 5/9 months (including this month). Of the other four months, two of them were about 85 and two were 125. You just cannot be that level of suck that often. If recent weeks are a sign of more 40 OPS+ times that just is not good (which way too early to know that for sure). He needs the consistency he had in 2017.
  21. I disagree that Medeiros was a bust. He brought back Soria in a trade, and Soria was a huge part of the shutdown pen in September that they rode to the playoffs. He has not looked good so far for AA Birmingham in the White Sox system, though. He had an ERA north of 6 in September/October last year and was a human trash can in the NLCS too. Soria was pretty terrible for us and the fact two months of a reliever is all our former #12 could net us is a solid sign he was a bust for us. Not to mention he was pretty expensive on top of that. I mean, sure, he was apart of the shutdown pen. He wasn't the shutdown part of it though.
