  1. You pull those figures out of thin air? Seems random. Look 5 posts higher than Joseph's. Ahh thanks. Yah no chance he gets that. Would be pretty shocked if he breaks the record for a relief pitcher either yearly or as an entire deal when he is unsigned days before opening day. Once way he breaks the yearly AAV is on a one year deal MAYBE a two year deal if teams are actually offering 3-4 years. I really doubt that though. If we have serious interest I am betting all the offers are coming in at 1-2 years with maybe some 3 year deals with notably lower AAV.

  3. The Domingo Santana grade had to happen. Not really any room and he really wasn’t a 4th OFer type. Brewers didn’t have much leverage and probably knew they were going to get the short end of the stock. Scooter Gennett trade was similar. Had a talented player who had an AS level season and like any team went with that player. Said player then regressed, couldn’t really figure it out, and Genmett went to shine elsewhere. Khris Davis was quite similar to Domingo Santana oddly enough. Khris Davis was essentially pushed out for the younger brighter Santana who did well in 2015. They also had to get Braun out of RF where he was an absolute atrocious fielder. They just had too many garbage not versatile OFers to keep them all and split time to see who was good or not (between Davis/Santana). They opted to sell high on Davis knowing if they keep him and Santana outplayed him Davis would have little value coming of a year being a back up or even in AAA (Hey...much like what happened to Santana). When you start fielding a good team and start having multiple guys at one position who are competent you will have things like this happen. If you are finding yourself in these situations and often times taking a deal you probably don’t want to do, good. Means you need to clear space cause your team is that good. I really hope he does well. He is a solid player, we just decided to upgrade at his position pushing him out. He sat at AAA all year and came up in September to help us win a NL Central title we likely don’t get without his efforts in a few key situations.
  4. Last year K/9 numbers: Jeffress: 10.4 Knebel: 14.3 (#5) Kimbrel: 13.9 (#7) Hader: 15.8 (#2) That would be quite a bunch. Not to mention Taylor Williams is a 10+ K guy and if Peralta or Woodruff end up in the pen they are both likely 10+ K guys too. Then there is Claudio sitting pretty at about 5.0 K/9.
  5. Kentucky Virginia MSU (and they won’t beat Duke to get there) Michigan I fully expect to be wrong on one of the Michigan teams just because that matchup seems so unlikely. But I think one is there. Duke seems destined to disappoint. There are so dependent on everyone major being on the court or they struggle.
  6. Yes, thought it odd too. My favorite was stearns “no comment “. I’m sure he’s boiling over all the talk. With all the players comments, I think it puts extra pressure to get a deal done, for fear of disappointment and letdown. Talk about getting thrown under the bus when the fanbase and team starts penciling him onto the team and looking for an available jersey number.
  7. Interesting fact no one has really mentioned...atleast as far as I have read this thread: Kimbrel costs a draft pick and since we already burned one on Grandal it would cost us notably less than a different team in that aspect. That coupled with our apparent carelessness to short term payroll bodes well for us as a suitor. Would not shock me if he demanded $18mil, breaks the salary record for a relief pitcher, and Boras exclaims it a success. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Brewers are simply mulling if they have the money to do it or if they are getting over their heads. The Brewers are acting like me when I play MLB: The Show. Before the year starts I blow ridiculous money on 1 year deals until I can’t afford to sign someone for $25,000 to the A-ball roster. Attanasio is treating the payroll like a video game payroll and profits are irrelevant. It is pretty great.
  8. If we get something done with him I would have to guess it would be somewhere in the 2/$30mil range. For us to be in on him his market had to of just fell through the floor. I don't see us spending $20mil a year or giving a deal 3+ years to improve something that is probably already the strength of the team. Maybe 3/$45mil, but jeez...I just don't us spending that kind of money on a bullpen arm. Some people dont think our pen is a strength at least compared to last year. And it’s becoming apparent stearn’s might think so too. We’re not the small market team of the past. We can support a 150 mil payroll for a few years while contending for title IF Mark forgo’s A certain profit. We’ll see what happens No, all Stearns sees is an improvement with a plummeting cost to acquire. It’s essentially another version Grandal. On another note I see everyone is going to nitpick the heck out of what a “needle mover” is. Not sure about anyone else, but needle movers are usually major additions. Like a big impact positional player or an ace. A reliever is almost. Obviously any improvement is a needle mover, but adding a reliever is usually not a “needle mover”. Once again I am always fascinated by an elite bulllpen and welcome any addition to make it better. However, I have my doubts the Brewers would shell out a yearly salary to rival the biggest given out in franchise history. And while not impossible and while I don’t doubt the Stearns lead Brewers would do it the odds we shell out $20mil on a bullpen arm to make a strength stronger seems low. Small markets don’t do it and usually for good reason, especially on a fickle position. That being said if any team were to break such a trend it would definitely be this team. I will believe it when I see it, but I would predict if we end up with him his salary will be under $20mil and at most three years...likely 2. THAT being said I don’t read Attanasio’ mind and with the most promising Brewers team in franchise history he is the owner to literally make money no object if there was one.
  9. No...no reason to wait now. Which now makes me realize by signing this contract he really is only sacrificing one year of FA. Due to this deal the White Sox won’t hold him back (assuming they would) to control him an additional “year”. So basically this year will count instead of the White Sox trying to play the system. His hypothetical team control money is that $43mil plus whatever the 7th year is worth. If the same as the 8th year that is approx. $60mil during the team control period of 7 years he was stuck there regardless. Divide that money up over 3 arbitration years (where he would have made his money had he not took this deal) that is an average of $20mil!! Who is his agent? They need the highest honor possible.
  10. I think it really is a "move the needle" transaction though, no? Even if the pen is the strength of the team this still is a difference maker. Move the needle? No, probably not...at least not by the popular definition. I would probably say signing an uber good starter would be a move the needle type acquisition for us. I think the Brewers like their chances this year...a lot. It would not surprise me if they signed Kimbrel and still made big moves in July. There financial resources and depth in the minors will lead to a lot of opportunities to make the team better (as we have seen already). It isn't common small market wins 96 games, gets one win from the WS, and has major resources to improve the next year. I just can't see them throwing another $20mil at this payroll...especially considering that won't be the end and more would be added in July.
  11. That is what I was thinking. That is a steep price to pay when he is a total mystery. Also $43mil through arbitration is a lofty number to reach as is. They are really banking on him being a star. All that risk to get two years of FA at a cost of $17.5mil a year? Hardly a discount for enormous risk. This all coming from a team that already has one mega prospect flaming out at the MLB level (Moncada). More I think the more I hate this deal. It may very well end up working out for them well or just "meh"...but they didn't get the discount needed to incur that much risk.
  12. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/whitesox/2019/03/20/eloy-jimenez-white-sox-contract/3225674002/ $43mil assured! WOW! If he is good enough for the club options it is an 8-year deal potentially worth $77.5mil. Rarely have we seen this type of deal. I always find them to be fascinating and great talking points. Locks up money for life at the expense of just two FA years. I recall an Astros 1st baseman doing a similar deal and totally flopping (way less money though). I haven't run the numbers, but wow...what an insane deal for Eloy. That is a ton of money over 8-years or a ton if he totally flops. White Sox are only getting a deal here if he is a total star. Anything less and it will probably be close to the market rate. Hard to predict that though without a total breakdown and future salary predictions across baseball.
  13. Haudricourt and other beat writers in Milwaukee are worthless. They are worth nothing when it comes to rumors. They are so far up the Brewers rear end you would think the team employs them. They won't do anything that may anger the Brewers front office. Never have never will.

  15. Well we can thank Attanasio if this happens. Because I would imagine it to be quite the rich 1-2 year deal...probably 2 years. Looking at the Moustakas and Grandal signings I am pretty confident they are making a big push if he is down to looking at a 2 year deal. Also helps we love using the pen and it would make it just that much better.
  16. Honestly I don't know many people who enjoy working at a corporate office.
  17. K Mart just flat out failed to stay with the times, that is why they flopped big time. Shopko just wasn't unique. There wasn't anything defining about them. Target mainly survives because they are essentially a high end Wal Mart. It has some other factors that help it, but mainly continues to find success due to attracting a higher class of customers. Exactly why you see many Targets getting a facelift to look even more high end looking. Heck if in a really nice area the Targets have huge liquor sections with a complete glass outer wall...pretty impressive. Kohls has it quirks, but really it is hard to squash a clothing store like that. People don't tend to buy clothes online even if returns are quick/free.
  18. Agreed. I have a feeling he will never really get his due because he will probably never play for a contender. Crazy to think he might be the best player of all time and no one really talks about him all that much (relatively speaking). He could never play a game again and be HOF worthy. He already has like 65 WAR, 2 MVP Awards, 4 2nd place finishes that honestly should be MVP awards, AND IS 27. UNREAL. He almost has as much WAR as Miguel Cabrera and very well could pass up Derek Jeter THIS YEAR.
  19. Yup, not that he cares...but yah. A shame how much of his career has already been wasted on losers.
  20. I will temper my excitement since he hasn't pitched enough to really know how his command is, but that pitch he threw there was flat out unhittable. Start on the corner and broke away late. With two strikes that is an absolute nightmare of a slider. From bits and pieces he looks good and his velocity sounds like it has ramped up.
  21. We had one of the hometowns in my small community. It actually did really well all things considered because there really wasn't anything like it within a good 25 miles and even farther for some other communities. We are flooded with dollar stores, but those are typically too low end for my tastes. They don't carry name brand stuff. I was hoping they were going to be able to cling on with the hometown stores, but obviously it just was too late to save their new concept. We actually have two pretty new buildings in the town now with both businesses now gone. One Shopko and the other a grocery store that built in then went to crud financially. I just don't know what is going to ever buy that Shopko building. It is quite large for a small town of about 3k. On the bright side there was already a store looking to buy the defunct grocery store building and it seemed eery similar to the Shopko Hometown( believe it is called Freds, mostly in the SE). Smaller size, but more name products. I am guessing it is pretty likely they end up coming to the town now that Shopko is gone and their competition would be essentially zero. Will be interesting to see if they will take the old Shopko building that is atleast 4x the grocery store building they were looking at. I liked Shopko, it was a great company that treated people well. People especially loved that Hometown store.
  22. Sounds like the Wade Miley talk from last year. Totally different years and different situations. Wade Miley was previously a solid starter. Tomlin has been nothing but pure trash and has only proven that in ST.
  23. - Is it an outlier? Fact, though one can interpret outlier however they want. Calling it an outlier is not predicting the future. - Could he regress regardless of the injury after "figuring it out"? Yes, just like thousands of other players before him. Show me the people saying it is an outlier AND he can't change that or that he will end up exactly how Peralta did. I will wait. No one is trying to predict the future except you so you are the only one at risk of eating crow. Everyone else is just pointing out how he very well may never be the same. No one is saying he will never be the same.
  24. So lets say hypothetically that Greedy Williams falls to 12....a guy most thought would be a top 5, even a top 3 pick a month ago, would you be in favor of taking a lesser talent(the talent difference is going to be small, but for the sake of argument) in order to help the offense? Like for instance a Jonah Williams or Hockenson? I guess maybe I'm a bit too enamoured with Fant's 4.41 40 time and not impressed enough by Hockenson who can do everything and who's 40 time was 4.70 compared with Finley's 4.67. Add that one's essentially a Funchess type WR'er and the other is complete and I can see the love for the "slow" Iowa TE. I am just guessing a new offense mind coming in will get a flashy offensive target he likes. I just can't see them not going out and getting one. One of the top TEs makes a ton of sense and obviously has been a trendy pick after they went pass rusher happy in FA. Maybe Graham coming back makes a TE unlikely and I would venture to say they have a solid TE corps...but idk, I could see the pick. A big time TE in the red zone would be pretty huge for the offense. The only reason a specifically said edge rusher is because A) I think it is a focus for them now and B) I see a lot of edge rushers being floated in the Top 10 range where I could easily see one fall that they highly value. Really it could be any defensive player they highly value. I guess I also could see them easily going defense just because Top 10 offensive players are pretty far and few in-between this year. RB class sucks, WR class is poor and I don't see us targeting one anyway, OL class isn't all that impressive up top. The TEs seem to really be in our pick range though...which helps make it a trendy pick. Something about sticking Fant/Hockenson and Graham on the field at the same time seems fun.
  25. There is no way Tomlin gets a spot. If someone swoops in and we can't send him to AAA all the power to them. Why would we give a spot to someone who has sucked for nearly 1,000 innings and is 34? Not like he is proving much in ST so far. It is like considering Jeff Suppan for the rotation.
