  1. The rumored list of Phillies prospects they were looking at was a bunch of guys not having great seasons from what I saw. You can only put so much stock in guys having good years and ones having bad years.
  2. At least these DL trips are happening when we are about to not play for awhile. A good chunk of a minimum DL trip will be the break.
  3. And if he is throwing well? Then what? Yah everyone complains about the bullpen being over rested thus rusty. Are those people in favor of pulling Chacin early to give Hader two innings?
  4. With arguably our best starter on the mound might be a preview of a one game playoff game scenario where we just unload the bullpen. I’m sorry let me rephrase: Preview of the World Series clinch game.
  5. Probably a different situation, but I’m sure it would increase ticket sales quite a bit. Maybe not to that kind of crazy excitement and certainly doesn’t help we took the week off before the break.
  6. But if our fans care about the end of 2017 and will really care about another flop shouldn’t Stearns care? After all if you start angering fans that’s going to hurt the bottom line real fast. Now I’m not saying Stearns is sitting in his office finding a way to sell the farm so we can make the playoffs, but he must feel some sort of “We really need to try and make the postseason this year” after last year. Since 2011 we have barely missed the playoffs in 2012, 2014, 2017, and 2018 hypothetically. That’s pretty bad to look at and the other years we sucked. So in seven years since our last playoff berth we have fell short in 4 and sucked in 3. Three of those short misses were implosions with little deadline moves while 2012 was more of a push. (Once again hypothetically assuming we fall short this year to show how that might look)
  7. The aggressiveness on Machado got me thinking if there is an urgency to make the postseason this year after how 2017 ended. I know it sounds a bit of a stretch, but think about it. We bombed 2017 in the second half and we did little to nothing at the deadline. Can you imagine if 2018 goes down similarly? Getting off to a good start and what you did in previous seasons is the biggest impact on fan interest for the year. If we bomb after a good first half two years in a row and miss the postseason I feel like that would have a huge nagative impact for next year. You’d be like the little boy who cried wolf. After a few let down seasons in a row it would be hard to get fan interest going. I don’t think it is crazy to think another close miss could negatively impact next years attendence/interest in a big way. People on here are already just assuming “Here we go again” or “Typical Brewers”. If that truly happens again getting excitement for next year is going to be brutal and even if we can get to a good 2019 start. I must wonder how much pressure there is to do something this year to avoid another 2017. Not even the FO wants to see that happen again. I don’t think the question is if there is pressure, I definitely think there is. How much is that effecting our deadline plans?
  8. Who was the last player to get injured in the All Star game? These guys don’t try hard. It would take a total freak accident. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Orioles have him pulled earlier than usual for a starter to reduce risk. I think there is no chance he gets traded during the All Star Break (minus the day after the actual game). Getting traded while in DC would create a rather uneccessary circus. Their games have been meaningless all year yet they risk him getting hurt every day. The AS Game is really no different. It’s like 3 innings max at 50% effort, the chances are lottery odds low to get hurt. Obviously the media attention is huge regardless, but even larger in DC next week. Not to mention it’s suppose to be a spotlight time for many players across the league. To make Machado get an uneccessary large amount of it for little reason is just a poor move. He doesn’t need to steal headlines around the AS festivities when you don’t have to make it happen. And man we really don’t need another awkward Jeff Samardzija situation. I hope MLB has talked about what they would do with Machado if he got shipped off before the AS Game. Because said situation has not happened in the meaningless game era.
  9. Yup, pretty much going to get traded the day after the AS game. I only say that because it seems like a giant douche move by the Orioles if they traded him during the festivities. Probably inappropriate with all the media attention he would get in what should be a somewhat relaxing time.
  10. Hey, that's your opinion and it's a reasonable opinion. However, if the team is saying September then having the opposing opinion isn't unreasonable either. Calling those with that opposing view point "foolish" isn't going to get you anything but animosity. You're point is valid, make it without being hostile about it. Geez, some of you need to stop being such snowflakes. First a full blown religious rant and now calling people snowflakes. Not sure what is falling faster: the Brewers or the forum tonight.
  11. No, his return is a legitimate possibility. As you said he is throwing off a mound. They labeled it as lightly so I assume it isn’t fully throwing off a mound, which means he probably isn’t a month away. 6 Weeks? Maybe realistic. Also I don’t think anyone said he would be a major contributor. Pretty sure the first post tonight mentioning it had a disclaimer.
  12. Why? He is starting to throw off a mound. He should be ready come September if he ramps it up within the next few weeks. I’m not going to make any deadline plans assuming he will be back, but he certainly could be. Regardless Ramos and Machado would be really nice. Taking out two black ones and inserting good hitters would transform this offense in my opinion. Right now those guys are murdering rally’s. I’m not as big on promoting Hiura, but that’s just me. Brad Miller is fine. I’d like to see a starter added, but at some point flip flopping Burnes/Peralta isn’t a bad idea. I don’t think the Brewers are doing that tough. I think if Burnes survives the deadline he is bullpen only. I just have a hard time seeing them not add a starter. Once Peralta hits an innings limit what do we do?
  13. I also thought trading Burnes just wouldn’t make sense because of contributions at the MLB level, but there are a lot of ways to minimize that loss. Obvious is a Britton/Machado package so you replace him with another reliever. They could also add a starter (I find this likely regardless) and shift Peralta to the pen. They could simply trade for a reliever after getting Machado. Not advocating for it, just think there are ways to trade Burnes and be fine. I’d definitely want to keep Burnes if he can contribute at the MLB level.
  14. It’s been a tough stretch for sure. The offense has been one of the problem though and Machado helps that greatly. I also don’t think the offense has been that bad. We haven’t scored runs, but we have consistently been putting guys on base. We just haven’t gotten the big hit at all. We get Machado and that is 4 All Stars in the line-up. Sometimes everything is going right at the sometimes and sometimes it is all going wrong. It’s way to early for people to be giving up on the season...that is panicking. They are doing exactly what they don’t want to see Stearns do...a bit ironic. Unfortunately we can’t wait it out to find out because the Machado deadline is at the end of the break. Or maybe it is fortunate because if we get him it will happen sooner than it might if the Orioles wanted to wait it out to the deadline. Could be a bad or good thing. If Stearns passes on Machado because the price is too high, fine. He will make moves to help the team that he feels are acceptable prices. If he makes no moves...well, the team better just flop in the last couple months. Can’t barely miss the postseason two years in a row in my opinion. If we get Machado, Britton (if the package rumor comes to fruition), and a controllable starter that in my opinion is a great haul for us at the deadline.
  15. Rallies in the 9th that don't lead to victories mean nothing. It does when it means they just didn’t stop caring and people claim they have lately. Or however you want to word it.
  16. If the Brewers were so defeated like some think they wouldn’t keep making rally’s in the 9th.
  17. My thing with Machado is I think he can make a massive difference...if he is truly an elite hitter (like for any position). If that can continue, huge help. It knocks out a trash hitter AND gives us another middle of the order bat. If he hit more like Cain/Yelich he is still a huge help, but maybe not enough to commit. You can say Machado isn’t enough, debatable and possible...but if we get Machado I doubt that is the only move. No way.
  18. You are never as good as you think you are when things are going well and you are never as bad as you think you are when things are going bad. Very true honestly. Sad to say the Brewers are unlikely to ever have a bonafide contender with little holes. Even the 2011 team wasn’t good until the bullpen went nuts in the second half. Hard to predict how players will fair in the second half. The starters could turn a corner for all we know. I’m not necessarily vouching for a big move, but this team is certainly pretty good and postseason good...in my opinion. Many ways to go about it and you won’t know which is best now.
  19. No, it is just the talks reaching the end honestly. Machado talks have been going on awhile and have obviously been ramped up recently. We were a big time player before the skid. Obvious Machado is going to be traded before the end of the AS break.
  20. Did that swing and miss hit his foot? You can run to first even if it hits you?
  21. Well Nottingham was coming up. Get in position to maybe score on a wild pitch.
  22. Sucks he was safe, but ya know...gotta have 100% proof. Unless it is against us and “looks like it” usually settles it.
  23. I’m going to hope that was on Villar not windmill. Just brutal. Looks like he safe, should be safe. But I bet out cause the view isn’t great.
  24. How many positive posts in the last year have you had? Aguilar has been brutal lately though. The All Star hoopla and the burden of trying to carry the offense singlehandedly seems to be taking its toll. Well eventually he is going to regress. He isn’t a .300 hitter and his HR rate is bonkers for him. Will be interesting to see where he ends up long term.
