  1. Machado is being acquired to help win Game 5 and not get swept. Also if Stearns isn’t prone to panic moves getting swept in 5 Games should effect nothing. Deciding not to get Machado because of a 5 game losing streak would be a panic move. I was mostly joking though.
  2. Buying my Manny Machado Shirsey if we score zero runs today.
  3. Well with that negative attitude, nope. You won’t be surprised. My REALISTIC attitude has no bearing on the outcome of these games. If you expect anything other than you are being foolish. This team is in serious trouble right now. Maybe they’ll be able to turn it around, maybe not. History is not in their favor at this point. History is completely meaningless. It’s a negative attitude unless you can see into the future. But whatever floats your boat.
  4. Well with that negative attitude, nope. You won’t be surprised.
  5. If you're done with a .800 OPS 3B (which is top 10 in MLB among players w/at least 200 PAs), you're going to be very disappointed with baseball. I recommend you try soccer. Or badminton. Shaw has played with a very sick daughter. This excuse is pretty questionable because there is nothing to back up his personal life effects his play that much. Last year when his daughter had her open heart surgery he OPS’d 1.000 before/after. The month after he had an OPS also of 1.000. I’m not trying to take away with how unfortunate the situation is. It’s terrible and surely effects him. However, using it to explain a dip in performance this year is a stretch. While he has struggled at times he still has a 114 OPS+ just slightly lowered than last years 120 OPS+ mark. I wonder if the injury is bothering him, but hard to know not being Shaw himself or the medical staff. If it was bugging him that much I’d think a DL trip would have happened long ago. But who knows.
  6. Sorry Aguilar, you gotta make contact. Just whiffed into a DP
  7. I’m sending him regardless. Walk Aguilar I don’t care. Yelich is up next. When I say regardless I mean I’m not letting Aguilar decide if I am sending a runner or not.
  8. Sometimes I feel bad for our starters. Getting to 5 innings is impressive.
  9. Not trying to be snarky, but maybe his dream job is being the GM of a team that wins its first ever World Series. His dream job is probably to make the most possible money. Actually I pretty much assure it as so. That being said he should never leave for more money unless we are stupid. GMs don’t make a lot. Not sure how it is these days, but most make under $2mil. The ones that made more it wasn’t much more than that. After money it really depends. If things are going well here I doubt he leaves unless he does have a dream situation (location, market size).
  10. I don’t get the fear of the Astros/Yankees/Red Sox. First of all if we play them we made it to the World Series. This isn’t basketball where inferior teams have the same chance as winning the powerball when it comes postseason time. If we put a good enough team out there to make a World Series we can beat anyone in 7 Games. The best team almost never wins! The best record from each league hardly ever gets to the World Series period!
  11. I don't even think he wanted to, to the umpire's credit I think they checked it themselves just to make sure. Why not. Maybe a foot came off or something, you don't want a game to end on a missed call. In the end clearly out but didn't hurt to look. I wonder if they did it because Counsell originally said yes? Not sure you can change your mind.
  12. Best challenge ever, especially after they challenged that play at third.
  13. Here are 2 players from the start of their career (age 21 season) through their age 26 season; 752 G 899 H 60 HR 189 SB .292/.349/.421/.770 23.9 WAR 721 G 806 H 70 HR 84 SB .290/.368/.435/.803 21.0 WAR The top one is Paul Molitor, the bottom one is Christian Yelich with half of this season still to play. And Paul Molitor up to that point wasn’t an elite hitter. Wildly inconsistent from year to year actually. He didn’t become elite consistently until he was like 30. I could probably find an awful lot of players that weren’t super special with similar stats through their first 6 years or so. Unless you saw into the future and saw Yelich is also destined to become elite after 30 years old, which would be meaningless for us. I could probably count those type of players on a few hands though. I like Yelich a lot, but yah he isn’t an elite player. We paid a premium for control of a borderline All Star type guy.
  14. Economic impact the same? Nah, won’t buy that...definitely not the Brewers. Hotels are filled with fans from out of town, bars a hopping because of the games and offering shuttles. The Brewers draw an incredible amount from outside those five counties, especially in the summer. I’m not convinced the trade off of the Brewers left is close to equal. The out of towners money is a total lose without the Brewers. In the summer I would think many in the five counties would be incredibly likely to use some of that entertainment money elsewhere. Whether that entertainment south (Six Flags, Chicago burbs, Chicago) or elsewhere in Wisconsin (Dells, Door County, North). There is an impact.
  15. That's pleasant. I, for one, will be happy if the team doesn't over pay for Machado (or any player). And I don't think anyone will blame Burnes for something he has no control over. Stearns and the front office? Sure, but not Burnes. As for pitchforks. I really don't see people freaking out. Sure there will be a few people who scream loudly and often, but whatever. But I honestly think most people on this site understand the organization's philosophy. I think you're drastically underestimating the capabilities of people here to spew fire in any general direction they can if the Brewers don't make a big enough splash for their tastes. . Yah and then there are people ready to throw a fiesta the second we are “fading” because the move is to big for their tastes despite knowing nothing about what the Brewers are even offering or would need to offer. Both are a bit overly dramatic.
  16. I think it’s legit. Team chemistry is a big deal and that certainly boosts the inner clubhouse. I mean guys were pumped when they added Yelich/Cain. I think that kind of thing is definitely taken into consideration when considering major moves midseason.
  17. Why are Stearns and the Brewers always invincible to increasing an offer? I always see “Stearns is going to put his best offer and not increase it” or along those lines. How do we know the Brewers offer today will be the same at the deadline? I’d venture to say that is entirely false almost every time. If you are still in negotiations weeks later I would bet the offer has changed. No GM ever just throws his best offer out there. That’s not how it works, there are negotiations. Eventually you win the bidding war or you hit your limit. Do we honestly think the Yelich deal was a one offer deal? That was surely a full blown bidding war Stearns made the Brewers win. I don’t see why Stearns can’t end up on top again with Machado just like Yelich.
  18. I’d like to see the plan at SS next year if they do that trade.
  19. Greatly depends on how willing they are to pick up money. A lot of cases teams don’t want to pick up money and can ask for way too to do so. The Brewers of course should have no problem in doing so because we saved money in FA for this exact reason...and it Attanasio who probably doesn’t care about such a small amount when a WS is possible. The NL preference is interesting and hard to believe in my opinion. If they don’t want to deal to the Yankees because they can’t live with the thought of helping them win it all, fine. It think that is pretty dumb, but the entire AL? Wow.
  20. Local governments should definitely foot part of the bill. In my opinion the state level should pay a huge chunk of a stadium cost. If a stadium lasts 40 years the state income tax alone should pay for half the cost of the stadium. Of course that depends on said states income tax, some don’t even have one. Now when it comes to city’s helping pay that’s where is can get dicey. Obviously there are direct financial gains, but this is when economic improvement etc. is trying to be claimed. As someone mentioned there definitely is, but hard to say to what degree. Saying the owners should foot the bill is silly. They are just like any other company that seeks financial incentatives to reside where they are. Why? Because having one of these franchises is a big deal and it does bring in a lot of money for the local governments. Do the teams need to foot more of the bill? A lot of times I think they do. Hard to know without being on the inside and seeing the specifics. In general the state and local governments should be putting nine figures down for these teams. They bring that type of value on income tax alone. In my opinion the Bucks new arena funding was a pretty good example of how things should be done.
  21. Hasn’t that been done away with for quite a few years now?
  22. I gotta think the Yankees can pretty much dictate the outcome if they want him badly enough. Okay, but so can every team. Not like he requires Top 10 prospects in baseball.
  23. I hope he is heating up, he is on my fantasy team.
