  1. Corbin Burnes...what the heck man.
  2. I don't think we will need anyone for the rotation.
  3. What if we rented Quintana and traded Quintana in the winter? Trade away prospects that are more expendable(say Ray/Dubon/Diaz/etc.) and then trade Quintana in the offseason for something we need more like pitching. We then replace Quintana with a FA signing because we have lots of payroll room. MindBlown *turns off MLB: The Show*
  4. Where does this divisional lead rank all time at the All Star break? 5.5 games is a pretty big lead. Since this is the optimism thread I am going to say this straight up: I truly think this team is going to win the division. This team is very balanced across all boards. We have solid depth to make up for any injuries. I think Stearns makes a little noise at the deadline to make this team even better. This team should be a pretty safe bet to put up a .500 record or better the rest of the way as long as there isn't major regression. Do that and the Cubs or Cardinals would need to be 100 win ballclubs the rest of the way out to make up the deficit. I don't see that happening. Simply put this 5.5 game lead is massive if you think the Brewers will win at least half of their remaining games. EDIT: Just looked at the standings again. The Cubs...are closer to LAST PLACE than FIRST PLACE. Unbelievable.
  5. The voting literally has nothing to do with the amount of players we have go. Unless you really feel someone who was voted to start shouldn't even be an All Star.
  6. 50 wins at the break. 5.5 game lead. Rest of the division has been terrible.
  7. Keon Broxton back to hitting like a pitcher and have mediocre stats overall.
  8. I wish I could play in MLB with a near .400 OBP and on pace for 40-50 HR. Man I would make a ton of money. That OBP was well below .300 last month.
  9. If Stearns would have traded that Braun guy who plays on the injury report I might wonder if he is human.
  10. Ivan isn't on the roster because you can't option him back. Only way Ivan gets a chance is if Sogard has a season ending injury and a full bench spot is available. Rivera can still be optioned so for short term replacements he makes sense.
  11. Davis, Choice spark thrilling comeback win for Shuckers over Wahoos The Shuckers scored a season-high seven runs in the eighth inning Saturday By Biloxi Shuckers Johnny Davis celebrates with Javier Betancourt after scoring a run during the seven-run eighth inning on Saturday (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Luis Ortiz has struggled of late and it didn't get much better giving up four runs in 4.2 innings. Luis Ortiz was doing well through four innings, but ran into trouble giving up all four of his four earned runs.Things were looking dim for the Shuckers who went into the 8th inning down by two runs 4-6. However the offense exploded for seven runs, capped off by a Clint Coulter homer to win 11-6 Pitching Summary: On the mound, Luis Ortiz (4.2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) started the game while Tayler Scott (1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, K), Jorge Lopez (2.0 IP, 3 K), and Matt Ramsey (1.0 IP, K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Clint Coulter (2-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR) Johnny Davis (3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) Dustin DeMuth (2-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, HR) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Massive 8th inning turns deficit into blowout. Capped off by a Clint Coulter homer. Biloxi Top of the 6th Biloxi Bottom of the 8th Defensive Substitution: Alberti Chavez replaces pitcher Domingo Tapia, batting 9th, playing second base. Pitching Change: Zack Weiss replaces Domingo Tapia, batting 6th. Dustin DeMuth lines out to second baseman Alberti Chavez. Gabriel Noriega singles on a sharp ground ball to left fielder Tyler Goeddel. Angel Ortega lines out to right fielder Aristides Aquino. 12. The Yankees have like 40k filled a game on average. That is a lot of people.
  13. Yup, could be the next Jungmann/Guerra. Probably pitching over his head, but he can be a huge help this season for a good stretch.
  14. The ushers have gotten exponentionally more strict in recent years. Now they ask for your ticket in the infield on the field level and a lot of time the loge level. It is kind of annoying sometimes to be honest. I hate getting asked for my ticket when I literally go in right away to go by the dugout or take a good loge level picture. Leave me alone unless the game is getting close. They aren't strict in the bleachers or terrace because there is a plethora of empty seats every game and they are cheap tickets. There isn't a need to be strict in these areas. I am not going to feel robbed if someone buys a cheap terrace ticket and they end up by me in the bleachers.
  15. Haha seriously though. On another note that Fielder/Kinsler trade was terrible. That looked terrible for Texas immediately and that is exactly how it ended up. Saying Fielder played so many games the 5 previous years is picking stats to fit your argument. The guy was fat and had a body destined for failure at 30. Texas lucked out that he got so hurt he couldn't play so insured saved them.
  16. Personally I think Sonny Gray still has ACE potential. I think the A's will get quite the haul for him. I agree, but. I don't think I want to pay the price for the amount of risk he carries.
  17. Invest in better players = better product on the field = higher attendance/merchandise sales = increased revenue = projects that will yield dividends in the future. - Recent graduate from a Top-10 public university MBA program Yes, but restructuring Braun's deal does not allow any extra investment for better players. There is no gain to be had here in my opinion because his salary will not make us max out our budget in the future. If that is the case there is no purpose to restucturing when financially it would have a negative impact(or none if we alter it to be less to equal what the percieved present value is). The only argument to be had is if you think Braun's contract will cause us to avoid spending money on other players(or other means) between now and the start of the 2020 season. I just don't see that when our payroll should be nowhere near a max budget north of $100mil.
  18. Peralta's quality start not enough in loss to Wahoos Freddy Peralta struck out eight on Friday and has 27 punchouts over three Biloxi starts By Biloxi Shuckers Freddy Peralta logged eight more strikeouts on Friday night at MGM Park (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: The Shuckers jumped out first scoring a run on a Wendell Rijo double in the 2nd inning unfortunately that was the only highlight for the Shuckers offense in the 3-1 loss. On the bright side Freddy Peralta continued his strikeout frenzy sitting down eight batters via the K in his six innings of work. Overall it was a solid start for Peralta only giving up two runs on the day. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Freddy Peralta (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 8 K) started the game while Travis Hissong (2.2 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR) and Javier Salas (0.1 IP) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Clint Coulter (1-4, 2B) Wendell Rijo (1-4, 2B, RBI) Dustin DeMuth (1-3) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Shucker's lone run. Biloxi Top of the 6th Biloxi Bottom of the 2nd Michael Choice called out on strikes. Dustin DeMuth singles on a ground ball to right fielder Aristides Aquino. With Javier Betancourt batting, Dustin DeMuth advances to 2nd on a balk. Javier Betancourt pops out to first baseman Gavin LaValley. Wendell Rijo doubles (3) on a fly ball to left fielder Josh VanMeter. Dustin DeMuth scores. Dustin Houle flies out to right fielder Aristides Aquino.
  19. I think he is just pitching a lot because our starter had a short start due to rain. It's not like this was planned. He simply is a guy who has been stretched out this year ready to do the job tonight.
  20. No...just no.
  21. The way Villar and Santana play defense makes you question if someone else helps them put their glove on.
  22. Cause you are assuming the future with the apple cart will be much better. People say it is too soon, but what if this becomes a decent shot? What if Santana isn't for real? What if Shaw is the next Villar? What if Nelson/Anderson go back to mediocre pitchers next year? Then next year we are a 75 win team and then then we fight with .500 the next... If you have a shot at the division you better make an effort to improve your team. Maybe you don't think we should trade major pieces for a Quintana, but a back end starter or bullpen arm is just as important for a team. The Cubs looked set up for many great teams and the season after winning it all they are flirting with a <.500 record at the deadline. People are already overly attached to our farm system when we have made a competitive team hardly touching it. We have plucked just a few players for from it and have 20+ legit prospects sitting down there. I doubt this is our best team we will have in our competitive window, but I'm not sure how many chances we will get to win the division and this is a good shot.
  23. They can all they want. Good luck spending enough to get back the three headed monster in the rotation. Arrieta will be gone, Hendricks was likely playing over his head, and Lester is going to decline here soon too. They aren't going to be a super team. Will they be competitive for the most part in the upcoming years? Sure. Doesn't look like a consistent 97+ win team though. Wouldn't be surprised if a down year or two is in that competitive window too.
  24. My concern when they ask "many scouts" is who exactly they are asking? There are dozens upon dozens of scouts. Because while they talked to "many" that don't like him as much anymore all the time I see scouts glowing about Corey Ray. Ratings for prospects vary so greatly between each team it's hard to put a lot of stock in them when it comes to trades. There didn't seem to be a wild goose chase for Travis Shaw after last year, but it only took the Brewers to believe in him.
