  1. This is actually the most realistic trade proposal of the entire thread so far. Not really. It's questionable either Verlander or Kinsler even have positive value due to their contracts. Ian Kinsler probably has a little positive value, but not a whole lot. Justin Verlander though? I doubt it. I doubt a team would even take the contract alone. I think you are overrating old players who aren't performing. Ryan Braun was at least performing and there were only two teams willing to touch him(Braves/Dodgers) and NEITHER would take him as a salary dump.
  2. Jonathan Villar is an overpay in my opinion. Kinsler is old, not playing incredibly well, and owed a good amount of money. You are vastly underrating Villar's value due to a bad year. Keon Broxton would be a little closer in value. The problem with Keon Broxton is if he burns his last option and fails to produce well at the MLB level the rest of the year I don't think he has much of any value this winter if we want to trade him since the receiving team is forced to have him on the 25 man or risk losing him once next season starts. This might be our last chance to extract any type of value out of him. I'm not really into chasing Kinsler though.
  3. What year are you in? 2011?
  4. The "looking to add big" comment seemed as an assumption since they have been connected to so many big names...however not sure that means they are aggressively trying to do so at all costs. I think they are interested in adding big, but not desperate. The Attanasio comment you guys are taking the wrong way. It says Attanasio will do whatever DS wants. So let's all calm down. It didn't say Attanasio is going to force DS to do anything.
  5. I think the Brewers demoted Broxton because he is garbage. Brett Phillips is getting a chance because he was already here(since they prefer giving him sporadic playing time vs. Brinson) and in that sporadic playing time has looked competent. Now he will get to have lots of playing time and prove something to the Brewers. Showcasing a guy with no MLB experience for a week is not a great idea. Most normal players are going to look terrible trying to adjust. This is about Keon Broxton sucking and Brett Phillips getting a chance to capture the CF job. Could they trade Phillips? Sure. I don't think they are using this to market him though.
  6. If he comes as a salary relief for them I'd be interested. I think he would be an improvement over the current guys...but not a lot. middle infield would be our last need if you ask me.
  7. I'm guessing his defense is still good? Only way I could see it making sense. Offensively it makes absolutely no sense. Sure Sogard is gone after this year, but Ian Kinsler is pretty darn expensive. Could easily just bring back Sogard or sign some other dude similar to Kinsler for less. Must want the defense to help the pitching. Getting him to hit against lefties is a good point, but really worth money and prospects?
  8. Guys with zero MLB track record aren't prime bullpen candidates in a postseason race. That is the biggest problem.
  9. I am man missing the excitement on Wilson. I really don't see how his value is near Will Smith value. Will Smith had way more control at the point of trade. I am sure the injury earlier last season didn't help matters, but I would much prefer Will Smith(healthy obviously) over Justin Wilson. Also I am not sure what Phil Bickford being their top prospect has to do with anything. Not our fault their entire farm system was poop on a stick last July.
  10. Road woes continue as Braves walk-off Shuckers again on Thursday Blake Allemand was 2-for-5 and reached base three times in the loss By Biloxi Shuckers Blake Allemand had two hits and lined out sharply twice in Thursday's loss to Mississippi. (Mark P Driscoll) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Jon Perrin pitched four innings while giving up three runs and striking out five. The bullpen followed him up with a few solid outings, but the offense couldn't get a big hit when they needed it. Mississippi walked it off for a 5-4 win in the 12th off of Jorge Lopez. Offensively it was a quiet day with only one extra base hit in the twelve innings. The one double came off the bat of Angel Ortega. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Jon Perrin (4.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB, 5 K) started the game while Hiram Burgos (3.0 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, 4 K), Nick Ramirez (3.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K), and Jorge Lopez (1.0 IP, 2 H, ER) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Jacob Nottingham (2-5, R, RBI, BB) Blake Allemand (2-5, RBI, BB) Angel Ortega (1-5, R, 2B, RBI, 4 K) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Biloxi Shuckers' chalk up another walk-off loss. Mississippi Bottom of the 12th Dylan Moore singles on a line drive to right fielder Clint Coulter. Austin Riley hit by pitch. Dylan Moore to 2nd. Tyler Neslony singles on a ground ball to center fielder Johnny Davis. Dylan Moore scores. Austin Riley to 2nd.
  11. I tend to agree with most on the thread. We get verlander and take on most salary, they get something like Clark plus jungmann plus Zack Brown. Clark and jungmann can be touted as 1st round picks to their casual fans. Most of our other talent should be cheap enough to keep some payroll flexibility even with most of his contract added on through 2019 when he drops off and 2020 when Brauns drops off. The tigers already signaled they were dropping out of contention for at least this year when they punted Martinez for salary relief and little more. Clark? Trent Clark? No thanks. Why give up real assets for a guy who is pretty questionable. He may do well the rest of the year, but what about the other two years? Could end up a total dumpster fire at his age. Too risky.
  12. Actually the three guys we got are already worth more than Adam Lind was. Lind had a -0.3 WAR for the Mariners and our guys have been worth 0.0 WAR without throwing a pitch. Lind was a FA and signed with the Nationals.
  13. lol that's funny. No they don't. Brewers have 1 more loss than the Cubs. I could give a damn about winning pct. And 3 more wins. Winning is better than losing!!!
  14. Well it's more like play out the season entirely or bet your entire season on one game at the very end.
  15. The season is over according to most on here that post and we still lead the division!!!
  16. I'd give the scouting department all the credit on that one. They weren't very highly rated prospects at the time so kudos to the scouts for finding a gem in Freddy Peralta. Any GM can trade for top prospects easily. To find legit guys outside a teams Top 30 takes some help from the guys at the bottom.
  17. Always loved Santana from the get go. We got legit prospect at a young age that already showed competency against MLB pitching. Thought of him as a Corey Hart type player and he looks to be very similar value wise. Not at all surprised he has a good head start on being the best player in that deal.
  18. You question that Anderson is a core player for this franchise? At this point in time, yes. You could probably put him in the possible category with Nelson. He had the ace like 2nd half last year so that is a full year of pretty elite results. I am a little more confident in Jimmy Nelson than Chase Anderson. In my opinion a starter has to be a #1 or #2 type to be a core player. Don't know I would label a mid rotation guy as a core guy. Then again I put Keon Broxton as possible and that is brutally generous. Must have been chasing my child around putting that together.
  19. Teams go on hot streaks and cold streaks. Silly to make any conclusion about anything after 4 days. Assuming this is a sign of the Cubs speeding up or us slowing down is way too soon. The Cubs won 5 games in a row at the start of June. I bet everyone assumed they were speeding up then too, but they followed it up with four straight losses.
  20. Ortiz returns to form, but Shuckers suffer walk-off defeat in opener Luis Ortiz tossed six innings of one-hit baseball on Wednesday night By Biloxi Shuckers Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Luis Ortiz brought no hit stuff, but the offense went flat only busting out two hits. Ortiz went six innings while striking out six and only allowing one hit. Luis Ortiz managed to do it on just 75 pitches. The only hits came on a Jacob Nottingham RBI triple and a Dustin DeMuth single. The Shuckers lost the game 3-2 in the ninth inning. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Luis Ortiz (6.0 IP, H, 6 K) started the game while Josh Uhen (0.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, K), Tayler Scott (1.2 IP, H, K), and Quintin Torres-Costa (0.2 IP, 2 H, ER, K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Jacob Nottingham (1-3, R, 3B, RBI) Dustin DeMuth (1-3, R) Clint Coulter (1-2, RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Mississppi wins it in the 9th. Biloxi Top of the 6th Mississippi Bottom of the 9th Wendell Rijo remains in the game as the second baseman. Pitching Change: Quintin Torres-Costa replaces Tayler Scott, batting 3rd, replacing second baseman Blake Allemand. Joey Meneses pops out softly to first baseman Dustin DeMuth in foul territory. Tyler Neslony strikes out swinging. Travis Demeritte singles on a ground ball to center fielder Johnny Davis. Kade Scivicque doubles (11) on a sharp fly ball to left fielder Tyrone Taylor. Travis Demeritte scores.
  21. Not sure why it is Ortiz' fault they pull him with 75 or so pitches.
  22. Some of you are in full panic mode and it is hysterical.
  23. Luis Ortiz has a lot of potential. Don't understand why so many write him off like he is nothing. Everyone knocks his weight weekly like that matters. There are a plethora of fat pitchers doing pretty well right now.
  24. All the negative Nancy's yet no one jumping on golden boy Orlando Arcia who is responsible for the other run? Spread the hate guys, come on.
  25. Yep. Hope we wait as long as possible and don't make a move on an already sinking ship. I trust Stearns though. Seemed reluctant for a big splash move anyway. Could you let us know when we are going to win the World Series too?
