  1. Phillips dropped off their list after last year too. How's that working out? Well he is having a good year and still not on it...so... I'd be interested to know Brett Phillips general value. He has had a good bounce back campaign though it is in a Colorado environment. Would be one of the better prospects I would look to package for deadline help. Hader is up there too along with Diaz/Erceg. Not that I don't like them, but I find them more expendable. Only concern with Hader is I believe he could be big help for the bullpen the rest of the year. Not a fan of addition by subtraction. I have seen Domingo Santana as a possibility and for the same reason I don't want to trade him.
  2. Yes, but it is moot because I doubt we are maxing out our budget in 2020(which is guess would float in the $110mil range). If our payroll is that high holy cow what did we do? If we have him just pay him on schedule. We don't need that payroll flexibility.
  3. Ahh I see, I forgot all baseball officials follow Baseball America like sheep.
  4. I'm not sure how much the Marlins will need OFers, for whatever that's worth. Yelich may be having a down year but they've got 2 guaranteed OF for the next 5+ years and I'm sure they've got something in the system if Yelich isn't the 3rd. They probably want to trade them too for money reasons...at least that is what was reported months ago.
  5. No that would just make his contract more costly than it is. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. Not sure how much frontloading you are talking, but it could cost us millions more. If you are worried about payroll concerns I doubt Braun's contract will ever be a big deal. Mark Attanasio and Co. would never do such a thing.
  6. I won't bite on the TOR starter hype, but I do think either Davies/Guerra get booted by then. Nelson Anderson Garza Davies Woodruff
  7. No, it is not lucky to guess the Rockies fade. They were on pace to win 104 games with a trash rotation on June 20th. Everyone and their brother knew that 104 pace was going to crash pretty hard. Not to mention they have to play the D Backs and Dodgers all summer long. The Brewers were predicted to fade early in the season because their pitching was terrible and we depended on our offense. It isn't possible to stay over .500 that way. Since then the bullpen has improved and the rotation has done amazing. Now no one is predicting us to fade. Most have us at at least 85 wins when the current pace is 88 I believe. Most view us as a legit contender now that the pitching has joined the offense in doing well. Can't compare the two.
  8. Every just needs to take a breather. David Stearns didn't suddenly become a Mark Attanasio controlled Doug Melvin clone. David Stearns believes in having lots of young talent. However they won't all play for us as we have to much talent/depth. When we are competing we should be trading prospects for MLB talent. This team looks real and is holding a strong lead on the division half way through the year. They are doing preliminary homework on Quintana. When they hear the price in a few weeks it may be 10x what they ever would have spent on him. Just because they are the interested in Quintana doesn't mean Stearns would even be willing to sell the farm. When you are a contender you keep tabs on every single option out there. They did it a few years ago when James Shoelds(s) was available. They barely made any deals.
  9. Who cares honestly. All the participants are power hitters with good HR numbers. Hardly a crime that Thames isn't included. Besides it is likely to be even more terrible than it usually is being at Marlins baseball Park. Anyone who doesn't pull it down the line won't last long.
  10. Check out the rumors section we have on the forum where this thread should be. Also pretty sure we have a thread well started on this topic.
  11. Unless you are picking up the entire contract or something I imagine some team(probably the Red Sox) would view him as a starter and overbid us. It would be a nice add, but our bench is pretty good right now and not that big of a need. I would bet the bullpen would be a major focus. Maybe even a starter if Guerra/Davies can't string something together here quick.
  12. Pensacola's Lopez stymies Shuckers on Thursday night Jon Perrin tossed five solid innings in the loss By Biloxi Shuckers Tayler Scott made his league-leading 35th appearance on Thursday night at MGMP Park (BENTON REED) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: It was a pretty non eventful day for the Biloxi Shuckers. Jon Perrin had a solid day throwing 5 innings of two run ball and Nick Ramirez continued a fantastic year throwing two scoreless. Unfortunately for the second time in three days the offense was belly up. They had three hits combined none of which went for extra bases. The Shuckers lost 0-2 Pitching Summary: On the mound, Jon Perrin (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 K, HR) started the game while Nick Ramirez (2.0 IP, H, K) and Tayler Scott (2 IP, H) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Clint Coulter (1-3) Wendell Rijo (1-2) Gabriel Noriega (1-3) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Shuckers offensive struggle ends on...a low note. Biloxi Bottom of the 9th Pitching Change: Zack Weiss replaces Jose Lopez, batting 9th. Wendell Rijo grounds out softly, third baseman Nick Senzel to first baseman Gavin LaValley. Jacob Nottingham called out on strikes. Michael Choice strikes out swinging, catcher Joe Hudson to first baseman Gavin LaValley.
  13. Not really.... still a small lead in the grand picture. If we lost the last two instead of winning, the lead would be 1.5 games. Now, If it was September 6...... they would be sweating. In the grand picture it is notable though. If we round it up to a 5 game lead if we finish out 37-37 the Cubs would have to go 44-34 to win the division. That is 92 win pace for a team that is currently and has been playing .500 ball all year. The Cubs have already dug themselves in a hole. .500 ball much longer and they could be in big trouble. EDIT: For what it is worth if we stay on our current pace (40-34 rest of the way) the Cubs would need to go 47-31...98 win pace to win the division.
  14. Maybe this is the Brewers earth? Maybe. Just maybe, these stat gurus that tell us how great or bad these guys will be were wrong? Because baseball isn't played on a computer. Haha right. I remember two weeks ago hearing the same thing and now we have rattled of wins in 7/8 of our last 8. I guess they don't specify when...maybe 5 years or so? Seriously though the team is playing well and keeps doing better when everyone expects gravity to bring us down. This team has legit players doing legit things. They haven't had a bad losing streak all year. This team can keep it up.
  15. Strong conclusion when he has had one good second half in his brief career. Maybe he just isn't good and had one hot streak?
  16. Why do we need a top of the rotation pitcher? Nelson and Anderson are pitching like aces. Stick to that and at the end of July get a back of the rotation arm if you think you need it. I would mostly look for cheaper bullpen options. If we really look good this month splurge on a controllableone if need be.
  17. Yah they are very narrow. Long...but narrow. I think they are being renovated this winter.
  18. Dude I love this guy more than the first pitcher!!!!
  19. The thing I like about Ed Sedar is he sends guys assuming the throw won't be perfect. Most of the time it isn't perfect and Ed Sedar makes a good sense. However sometime it is like he assumes a terrible throw and out guys are out by miles. He just makes way to many poor sends to make up for his good aggressive sends he makes. We call him the human windmill for a reason.
  20. I'm not sure how much value he would really hold. I mean enough to trade him in a postseason spot race? Believe it or not he has been easily our third best starter this year. I feel he keeps it up all year he could be an interesting offseason trade candidate. He will have the very attractive option. We have a lot of young rotational depth we could turn to and trade Garza for some prospects(or bullpen help) etc.
  21. That was the most Wisconsin thing I have seen on this forum in a long time.
  22. People keep saying the wild card doesn't seem in play, but do you guys even look at the standings? The Rockies hold the second spot and are trending down pretty fast right now. Their rotation isn't good and at Coors that is going to bring them down. They are good, but I expect them to have a record that sports <90 wins. They only hold a 3 game lead over us right now....we have a bigger divisional lead than that. If and when the Rockies continue trending down look at the Wild Card contenders not including the Cubs. It is the 40-42 Braves and the 40-44 Cardinals right now. We hold a 5 game lead over the Braves right now(who are directly behind the Cubs in the Wild Card race. There is not a single winning record in the NL that isn't currently holding a playoff spot. STOP WRITING OFF THE WILDCARD
  23. You said the same about Segura too I bet right?
  24. Never thought the Brewers would be in an article with this kind of title this year. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2719713-one-reason-each-mlb-contender-wont-win-the-world-series
