  1. Why not just say you don't want to give up what it will take to get Gray instead of saying you like Phillips so you would offer a bunch of lesser prospects? Ray/Harrison/Medeiros? Come on that's not even a competitive offer. Ray is a good prospect, but those secondary prospects do not have that much value.
  2. Why is this not good for the White Sox? They traded a 3B baseman rental who isn't even that good, an expensive closer who hasn't been that impressive the last couple years(1.5 years left on deal), and a young reliever who may be something. The only argument against this is the fact Kahnle could be something special in the pen, but his current value isn't all that crazy. They got an elite OF prospect in Blake Rutherford for some old has beens and a young bullpen arm. They also got another former first round pick in a left handed pitching prospect. I hope we can make a deal like this next time we are rebuilding!
  3. What a free fall. We have lost 1.5 games in the standings. Time to tear down and rebuild again.
  4. Where can I pick up my Keon Broxton Colorado Springs jersey? Do we know the jersey number yet?
  5. Heard that two weeks ago. Take a breather people.
  6. Pretty sure Villar is optionless. You cannot option him.
  7. I'd consider anyone who plays above average or better as a core player. They also have to have 4+ years of control(3.5 right now) and typically young. Because these players are usually cheap and good luck finding someone to outplay them. I personally would label someone as part of the core if they aren't in the MLB Likely ones: Arcia Santana Knebel Shaw Possible: Thames Broxton Nelson Don't rule them out: Villar Anderson Because he has to be: Braun
  8. Giancarlo Stanton isn't moving anywhere unless someone backs up a diamond mine dump truck right into Marlins Park. That return would be a joke to the Marlins for Stanton alone. Two other guys...? Look at it from the Giants perspective. They get Stanton for Samardzija and two decent prospects? If that is all it takes I will trade for Stanton instead. Yes the contract is huge, but he still is a premier hitter. Not cheap.
  9. If one thinks Josh Hader has been good they must be stuck on his ERA. Most advanced stats(and the eye test) shows he is erratic and not truly dominating hitters like some think. He is walking 7 per nine innings. That is nothing short of terrible. Opponents BABIP .138...over the long run that is going to rise dramatically. His BABIP in the minors is pushing .300 most years(yes even before Colorado). He is also stranding 96% of runners. Anyone really think that is even close to sustainable? The only good thing going for him is his 9.6 K/9, but honestly that isn't all that impressive for a bullpen arm. Certainly not good enough to be successful with so many walks. Hader has simply not proven to be effective enough to get more innings. I don't think this bullpen is desperate enough anymore where we just throw Hader on the fire and see how he does.
  10. Taylor leads offensive outburst in Shuckers win on Monday Tyrone Taylor went 4-for-5 in Monday's win over the Barons By Biloxi Shuckers Tyrone Taylor had a double and three singles in Monday night's drubbing of the Birmingham Barons. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Aaron Wilkerson and Freddy Peralta were a solid duo leading the Shuckers to a 8-2 win over Birmingham. Wilkerson started things of with five solid innings of two run ball and Peralta followe up to pitch four scoreless to seal the deal. Peralta, the strikeout master, racked up another six in his four innings. The offense was in full force lead by Tyrone Taylor's four hits and homeruns by Blake Allemand & Michael Choice. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Aaron Wilkerson (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) started the game while Freddy Peralta (4.0 IP, H, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Tyrone Taylor (4-5, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) Blake Allemand (2-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR) Michael Choice (2-4, 2B, R, HR, 2 RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Blake Allemand hits third homerun of the year. Biloxi Bottom of the 6th Pitching Change: Thaddius Lowry replaces Scott Snodgress. Javier Betancourt grounds out to first baseman Keon Barnum. Johnny Davis strikes out swinging. Tyrone Taylor singles on a ground ball to left fielder Courtney Hawkins. Blake Allemand homers (3) on a line drive to right field. Tyrone Taylor scores. Michael Choice flies out to center fielder Hunter Jones.
  11. Not a fan of giving up two pitchers at AA or higher and not letting Burnes go unless it for a legit ace. I am not super high on Burnes stuff, but the control has been making his results unreal. Can't risk having that prove out to be highly effective. -Brandon Woodruff or Luis Ortiz -Mauricio Dubon or Brett Phillips -Clint Coulter or Tyrone Taylor -lower end prospect Some combination of the above is probably what I would expect to pay. If that's not enough shrug your shoulders and move on. HighHeat I unfortunately don't agree with your logic there. Gray is a proven commodity while our pitching prospects are totally unproven. Wily Peralta was once a Top 50 pitching prospect and did nothing. Jorge Lopez was one and proceeded to fall of the face of the earth. Jimmy Nelson was one and took YEARs to show real promise and who knows how real it is. Depending on those guys in the coming years is likely to be a big fat fail. We need more proven guys to help lead the rotation. We can only try and depend on 1 MAYBE 2 unproven guys in any given year.
  12. Wild finish results in a 6-5 Barons win over Shuckers on Sunday Blake Allemand's controversial ground rule double not enough for Shuckers By Biloxi Shuckers Blake Allemand stands next to manager MIke Guerrero after reaching third base on a hit in the ninth inning. Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: It was a wild finish for the Shuckers in their 5-6 loss to Birmingham. Taylor Williams started the game on the mound and didn't have great stuff. He walked two batters while giving up two runs in three innings. The Shuckers went into the bottom of the 9th down by just two runs. Blake Allemand came up with two on and hit a game tying triple. However after a huddle the umpires ruled it a ground rule double erasing one of the runs. The foul poles at MGM Park are in play and the ball landed by the pole. Unfortunately for the Shuckers the bad break costed them the game. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Taylor Williams (3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) started the game while Tayler Scott (3.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K), Josh Uhen (1.0 IP, H), Quintin Torres-Costa (1.0 IP, 3K), and Travis Hissong (1.0 IP, R, BB, K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Johnny Davis (1-5, R, RBI, HR) Tyrone Taylor (2-5, R, 2B, SB) Dustin DeMuth (1-4, R, RBI, HR) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Blake Allemand goes from game tying triple to a double leading to 5-6 loss. Biloxi Bottom of the 9th Javier Betancourt doubles (12) on a line drive to left fielder Courtney Hawkins. Wendell Rijo singles on a ground ball to left fielder Courtney Hawkins. Javier Betancourt to 3rd. Johnny Davis strikes out swinging. Tyrone Taylor strikes out swinging. Blake Allemand hits a ground-rule double (18) on a fly ball down the right-field line. Javier Betancourt scores. Wendell Rijo to 3rd. Biloxi Shuckers Manager Mike Guerrero ejected by 1B umpire Alex Mackay. Brandon Brennan intentionally walks Michael Choice. Jacob Nottingham grounds into a force out, shortstop Jose Vinicio to second baseman Jake Peter. Michael Choice out at 2nd.
  13. I think a package centered around Tim Dillard would suffice.
  14. I know our pitching down in the minors has been terrible for years, but getting overly attached would be a total travesty. Trade Brinson instead of Woodruff/Ortiz? Yikes...I don't know about that. There is a pretty massive talent/value gap between those guys in my opinion. Preferring to trade a 5 tool OFer over a mid rotation guy is a bit concerning. Now wanting to trade Erceg over Peralta because you want to keep the pitching is a little more understandable since their value would be more in line.
  15. Some of you guys are literally throwing together deals of players you don't like and/or are outfielders. Good luck getting a deal with your damaged goods. If you aren't willing to give up a player you would truly hurt to see leave good luck getting any big time player.
  16. Zach Davies is really a good hold candidate. He is about to be passed up on the depth chart by both Woodruff/Burnes and probably Hader. Suter has made some noise in his small stint too. If the Brewers don't get a proven controllable starter before the deadline I am betting they find one this winter somehow. That's a whole lot of competition for him. If a team values him in any capacity I wouldn't be too sad moving him. If he gets passed up in our rotation he will be worth peanuts.
  17. If people thought that deal was even remotely a good idea when the ink was wet I would agree...but this was sadly soooo obvious. Aramis Ramirez sure worked out.
  18. When I look at Hader I don't think he has played all that well or been that valuable. However I really believe down the stretch he will be a big part which is important when you flirt with the idea of trading him. I also take into account his value in future seasons. I think he will be a major bullpen arm. Knebel and Hader could be a pretty good 1-2 punch at the back end. Maybe he is only a bullpen arm, but when you can be elite at it that is a pretty valuable player. I don't want to trade him or Brinson. We could make a competitive offer(possibly win) using players farther away from the MLB level.
  19. I am think it is a little more legitimate than the logic behind Hamilton. We need a starter pretty badly and a connection to the pitching coach is a tad more meaningful than Narron being Hamilton's baby sitter back in the day.
  20. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/nl-news-rumors-braves-brewers-phillies-rockies.html?fv-home=true&post-id=97244 Sounds like the Brewers aren't sure what they want to do. Everyone keeps waiting for reality to come, but instead we are going on an absolute tear. Are we a team contending because of weak competition or are we a legit contender? If we are a force to reckon with I am betting Stearns wants a more major move. It's just hard to commit to that when we are led by people with little track record.
  21. Corbin Burnes' pitching and Jacob Nottingham's 4 RBI power Shuckers to 6-1 win Burnes, MiLB ERA leader, throws another gem By Biloxi Shuckers Corbin Burnes tosses 5 innings of one run ball Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: It was a [sarcasm]rough day[/sarcasm] for Corbin Burnes who went five innings while striking out five and only giving up a single run. Burnes cruised for five innings on 66 pitches before being pulled in what appears to be the start of controlling his innings. As I have mentioned elsewhere the complete dominance this year is causing Burnes to rack up innings at a fast rate. It wouldn't be crazy at this point if they are controlling his innings to help in some roll this year's MLB team. While that theory is fun to think about it could also be a move to make sure he doesn't have to be shut down early. The offense was lead by a Jacob Nottingham three run shot and the bullpen helped seal the 6-1 lead. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Corbin Burnes (5.0 IP, 4 H, ER, 5 K) started the game while Nick Ramirez (3.0 IP, 2 H, K) and Jorge Lopez (1.0 IP, K) [rovided the relief. Hitting Summary: Wendell Rijo (2-4) Dustin Houle (2-4, 2B, R) Dustin DeMuth (1-2, R, RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Jacob Nottingham HR Biloxi Bottom of the 5th Biloxi Bottom of the 5th Johnny Davis flies out to right fielder Mason Robbins. Tyrone Taylor walks. Michael Choice walks. Tyrone Taylor to 2nd. Jacob Nottingham homers (4) on a fly ball to left field. Tyrone Taylor scores. Michael Choice scores. Clint Coulter grounds out, shortstop Eddy Alvarez to first baseman Keon Barnum. Angel Ortega doubles (10) on a line drive to right fielder Mason Robbins. Pitching Change: Robinson Leyer replaces Jordan Guerrero. Rene Garcia walks. Javier Betancourt flies out to right fielder Mason Robbins.
  22. Brewers have 5.5 game divisional lead Tied with Rockies(who hold #2 WC) 2 games behind the D Backs(who hold #1 WC)
  23. Monte Harrison has been really been hitting the ball this year. Decent average, good On base skills, and a high SLG%. Sits on an OPS over .800 on he year.
  24. Looks like Corbin Burne's innings are starting to be limitted. 5 innings and only 66 pitches. Get him through the full MiLB season...or something more?
