  1. Yup I said that deal could potentially be fair if we were picking up no money. With all the baggage and money there isn't a lot of surplus value. I didn't mention the no trade clause, but yes another great example of why the value isn't there. The August trade included more because we were taking McCarthy(total salary dump) to get more. We also have no idea who the prospects were as one couldn't even be agreed upon. Could have been Calhoun/Smith. If we pick up money that deal is probably pretty light(depending on how much we take on), but I was assuming it was straight up for those two. At which point that might be where his value lies. It seems a lot are stuck on what his value "should" be not what it appears to be. I think Braun should net a De Leon etc, but it's looking like MLB teams are not near that. Lastly as mentioned the control is more a bad thing than a good thing. Every team would prefer it be 2 years not four years.
  2. That actually is a pretty fair trade. If that was the deal and we didn't have to take a penny back I would take it pretty fast. Calhoun is a solid prospect(one of the top 2B prospects) and Smith looks to have the making of an every day catcher. Of course I wouldn't expect you guys to understand because it seems you guys tend to overlook contract length, size of contract, age, and injury history when it comes to Braun. If you look at Braun while ignoring age/money tied to him yah it probably looks like a joke. While Braun may be a diamond he is not the best quality one at this stage in his career.
  3. Easiest answer ever...NOPE. Why? Because to lose that many we need to suck...a lot. The teams need to constantly improve. Losing 100 games means a lot of guys are going to flop and our rebuild is a long way from.completion. Doesn't matter though as many great players are picked in the 9-14 range. I'll say one thing on this. ..if it's the last game of the season and we're tied for the worst record in the league, and there's a Bryce Harper type at #1 in next year's draft, I'm hoping we lose. Well of course because that one loss doesn't mean much outside of the draft pick. However rather winning 60 games vs. 73-75...no thanks. Those 13 more losses probably amount to years of extra rebuilding. As far as this teams projection I would put it at 70 and I would be tempted to take the under. A lot of learning, regressions, and a bullpen that will likely take a big step backwards. Bullpens are a big part of squeezing out extra wins.

  5. He was referring to this offseason alone. I could be wrong but that's not how I read it. Him stating that, present day, he expects Braun to be here in 2017 and "moving forward". I take that as him speaking beyond this off-season and season. Regardless, I think we can all agree that there's always a chance any player is moved regardless of what obstacles may be present or arise I guess one could think just about anything from those comments. He hasn't gotten an offer good enough so he expects Braun to stay a Brewer. Which could be a day or forever. By the "if we were going to get that offer I would have expected it by now" was really just referring to this offseason.
  6. He was referring to this offseason alone.
  7. Projections can be a bit iffy. For inexperienced players accuracy will likely always be off.
  8. Well the only way we don't regret it is if, in the next 4 years, Braun leads us to the playoffs as at least a 3 WAR player. Because if that doesn't happen he provides nothing to the end goal. I guess you could feel neutral on the whole situation if he mashes, but really it's all about getting to the postseason.
  9. Only notable sentence was the second one just because I think it is probably true. The rest is just fluff/garbage that any person would say.
  10. brewcrewball.com Typical comments honestly
  11. To Braun moving seems to be a big deal and being in an area he is comfortable in appears to be a big deal. For you maybe not...for him and his family it is.
  12. I think Braun values his family more. Seems to be that way ever since becoming a father. It would be interesting to see if he would change his tune but by what he has said so far, I would think it's Cali or bust for trading partners. Yup, if that full no trade clause kicks in it is a popular SoCal team or nowhere. It may be even more narrow than that. No chance he goes anywhere else even Miami.
  13. Could you go into detail because I am curious how he is going to improve that much. His defense isn't going to get better. Probably slowly worse the next 4 years. The only way his WAR is going to be "much higher" is offensively. Braun is actually more like a 5.5 WAR player, but he sits out a good chunk of games these days it knocks it down a bit. Ryan Braun is not going to play 160 games to increase his WAR and he just isn't the magical hitter he was back in 2011/2012. Don't get me wrong he is still up there among some of the best, but he isn't going to revert back to those kind of numbers.
  14. $2.5 million isn't a lot for a .279 lifetime hitter in over 1500 major league at bats and who's in his prime. The Brewers paid Counsell $2.8 million in 07 and 08 to be a utility infielder in his mid 30s. Worst case, Brewers can use an accomplished LH hitter to pinch hit late in game. He's also insurance if Arcia gets off to slow start and they decide to send him down to get straight as they can move Villar back to SS and put Scooter at 2B. Why Counsell got paid.
  15. Not true. I pointed out valid concerns that will give GMs pause and why Braun's value is not as high as it looks at face value. I never said it was factual he will decline, never said he will get injured, etc. Actually I said he could stay healthy and keep producing a 4+ WAR. However what are the odds of that happening? Probably not as good as one would like for a team that is far from competing and has ten of millions invested long term into said player.
  16. About 27.5M in surplus value. So two of their Top 4 prospects, most likely. .......... I think I hear Aerosmith warming up to do a live version of "Dream On" Way to elaborate. Looking at it Touki Toussaint a few years back was pretty much given away to clear salary and was valued at $10mil. So if we are trying to get to $27.5mil(or close to it) they might have to give up all three of their top prospects. Seeing as that just isn't a likely scenario one could probably get two of them and then a really attractive piece or two from the lower minors. That being said I don't like the Giants as a partner simply because I can't see them taking on a majority of the contract and I can't really see them piecing together $30mil in prospect value to make Braun cheaper. Partially because their system sucks and partially because it would make their system a bigger disaster.
  17. Forgot to quote yourself. You have spouted off the same rehashed thing in 8 different threads. Trade Braun for crap because he can't stay healthy, he's old, his contract isn't as good as what you want to believe.. blah, blah, blah... You do the same thing so what is your point?
  18. About 27.5M in surplus value. So two of their Top 4 prospects, most likely. I don't know if they really have the prospects to get one excited to pay $30mil though.
  19. Scooter Gennett says hello... To be honest...I would probably stick Gennett at 1B over Braun. Only because I know Gennett can move a little bit and can get grounders. Seriously though both are horribly unversatile. I actually forgot Gennett was even on the team for a second because I expected him ot be gone by now. Still do.
  20. All of them
  21. Yah when I think of it that way I just can't see Ryan Braun not being traded no matter what. Stearns loves versatile players and Ryan Braun is the least versatile player on this team right now. Not to mention if we are doing what is best for the team trading Ryan Braun is almost a no brainer. Expensive, old, injury prone, etc....sure he could still bring value to the team if he continues to put up all star numbers while staying healthy, but is that really worth gambling nearly $100mil on?
  22. One problem is we are so loaded on OF prospects there has to be a few that can put up a 2 WAR or slightly more. If we are paying Braun $20mil and he slips down to be a 3 WAR player we are wasting $20mil when we could probably have someone do it for the league minimum. Holding onto him isn't the worst thing if he continues having a 4+ WAR while being healthy, but who knows if that can even happen.
  23. Brewers aren't getting a De Leon or Bellinger at this point. If they are going to trade guys like that it will be for Dozier who fills a bigger need for them.
  24. Well probably not good for the Suter fans.
