  1. He's an MLB-caliber SS in his early 20s with upside. If he were actually a great player right now then then there's no way the Brewers (or any other team) would be trading him. He is 25...I don't think that is early 20s. Early 20s to me is 23 or younger. While 25 is still young, for an international prospect that is quite a bit of pro experience under his belt. This whole "potential" thing just seems like wishful thinking with not much to back it up. I have seen flashes of being decent and having some gap power, but that could just be a hot streak like any other player goes through. I'm sure he is worthy of more than his current production because he is still youthful, but you can't avoid the fact he has been below average for two full years now. Right now he has proven to be nothing more than a low end MLB -caliber SS. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I haven't seen any signs to make me worried.
  2. What is it going to take before people realize Segura is nothing special? Outside of his 2-3 month hot streak in 2013 he has been well below average with the bat and his defense really isn't anything special. I really just don't see the excitement that makes him worth a really good prospect(Nimmo etc.).
  3. Agree that there is no right way. Even in the professional lists you can see a lot of variance on how they rate prospects. Here I see a lot of people that love production, some like potential, some like youth, some like a players position, and some like a big mix. In the end we all will probably miss gauge a lot of prospects. That is just how it works. I personally like balance in my rankings. I like to spread out my experienced prospects and brand new prospects. I see a lot of you guys rank the newcomers low while I like putting a player or two high. I always enjoy fan made lists because of all the different view points on the players.
  4. The thing that has me the most excited about these small sample sizes is the lack of strikeouts. If I remember right a lot of the newer guys have not struck out too much. This current system as it stands could be really really good if some of these guys could start attaching production to potential.
  5. Well mid season can really effect value and Aoki wasn't the best corner outfielder. He did not have any power(minus dumping some over the RF porch in MKE), his offense overall was quite average, and his defense was average. You almost had to be looking for an OBP guy to have any interest in him and even then a .351 OBP isn't anything to get you drooling. Parra should bring back something better than Smith.
  6. No it stems from building a winning franchise, the Brewers haven't come close to being consistent, just 2 blips on the radar, and 2008 was gifted by the Mets. Gifted by the Mets? I am sorry but that is when you know you are just trying to be as negative as you possibly can. They earned it in 2008...no one gifted them anything.
  7. Ron Roenicke is no longer the manager. Also throwing average bats(if that) in center to hope they stick doesn't seem like the best use of time. They all lack quite a bit with the bat and would need to have some pretty nice defense to be worth a lick in CF...if that was the case I think we would know that by now. I just don't think it would be good for their developement. I'd like to see if they can hit and making them devote a lot of time attempting to play CF may give false readings.
  8. Pretty sure Schafer takes over right away. Whether or not that changes towards September I don't know. There really aren't any other MLB ready options. They won't rush someone to fill a spot on a team going no where.
  9. Interesting to see how people will lose their minds over a hot first half, but when a guy struggles at a new level a little bit they drop like a rock. There have already been multiple people rate Jungmann high and drop Tyrone Taylor waaaay down. Hard to believe 30innings at the MLB level makes you a highly touted prospect, but some slight struggle at AA(hardest level to many) just kills your value. People really liking performance/stats over potential/projectability. Nothing wrong with that...just something that caught my eye.
  10. I don't think it is anymore likely than it was when they flopped mid April. Has been a steadily 10% since than I would say. Carlos Gomez on the other hand looks likely to be trade before July 31st. From everything I have seen the speculation is that Gomez is the best player they end up trading.
  11. Gerardo Parra should net a better return than what the Brewers gave up. He is playing well now while last year he wasn't doing to hot. I think a lot of teams view him like a legit starter. However GMs weren't born yesterday and know that this little stretch isn't very accurate of what they will get. Teams will view him like his career norms maybe slightly above. I doubt many think he is going to have some career year. The demand for him will be the real factor on what the return is. Teams know that the Brewers have to trade him and that they can't give him a QO(and him decline it). What are you going to tell a team, "If you don't give us more we will just hold on to him and get nothing."?
  12. What is easier...holding a lead after 6 or after 9? A dominant bullpen means you can have a pedestrian starting rotation because what they give up is usually it for the game. If you have a really good bullpen and rotation...oh my.
  13. Everyone is trade-able if the price is high enough. We could probably get Sano for Gomez & Lucroy Right, but at that point it is heavily in the Twins favor. It would have to be that lopsided to consider moving such a prospect.
  14. I hated Jackson as a person and I really didn't like his music....but wow I could watch a music video or performance all day long. Guy was a genius.
  15. Yah I am not so sure how he will fare once he gets to the big leagues. The low walk rate is great, but you still have to have good pitches. You can't just throw it over the plate and pray at the MLB level. The low K rate and tendency to be a fly ball pitcher is a bit of a turn off for me. Doesn't sound like the best bullpen prospect for those two reasons and sounds a bit small to be a starter. So he is a bit of a tweener and his stuff doesn't blow you away. I am working on little information, but this is my understanding of him. Sounds like a fringe prospect.
  16. Nothing wrong with Lucroy being competitive and wanting to win. However, sitting down and complaining about not winning when he himself flopped like a rock in July/August last year and was a joke to start off this year is a bit low. Nothing better than a guy who piles the excuses on everyone else but himself. A competitor doesn't care about record. He goes out every day to win and goes 110%. A guy like Carlos Gomez is a competitor. 0-161 and that guy would jump face first into a wall to make a play. Scooter Gennett is a competitor. He worked his tail off to make it back to the majors and succeed. A competitor would rally his team and not moan and whine on a radio show. Jonathan Lucroy sure didn't look like a competitor when he was struggling to start the year. He just threw the bat out there and slowly jogged to first. Then his defense started to suffer. Just looked lazy behind the dish. I guess it just turns me off when a guy likes to complain about everything else and seemingly act like he is not part of the problem.
  17. If they don't want to trade them I don't think Taylor or Williams will make them consider it anymore.
  18. You get a blooper! You get a blooper! You get A BOMB!
  19. +1. Hopefully these comments go a long way towards encouraging a trade sooner than later. It leaves a black hole in the organization but if it brings back a possible future ace its worth it. Yes, a possible future ace that many on this site will want the Brewers to trade when/if he hits his prime. We don't want any proven players, we want guys that may some day become proven players so that we might be able to someday trade them for more guys that someday may also become tradable. Jonathan Lucroy won't be on the next competitive team. Unless of course you sip some of the kool aid going around and think they have a shot in 2017. This is something a team like the Brewers must do to stay relevant. If that "future ace" nears FA and the Brewers aren't contending I would expect the same thing.
  20. Glad you have a crystal ball and know what this team will look like a year from now. What, you're going to wait until the team is contending to bring him up? He might be stuck in minors until he's 30. Elite talent needs to play against the best to reach their full potential. Facing the type of pitching guys face in AAA doesn't test elite players. Just look at how the Brewers battered the Phillies AAA pitching staff last week. Fun to watch, but probably doesn't make them any better against better major league staffs. I suspect he'll be brought up around June 1st next year. Segura will go in a deal this winter, and they'll use a stopgap be it Sardinas, Perez (who could also be at 3B) or Gomez for a couple months. All young players need some time to adjust to major league pitching. The idea is that in a year or two, when Arcia is reaching his full potential, he'll be able to help make this team into a contender. What are you talking about a crystal ball? All I did was state my opinion on what I think the Brewers will do and partially what I think they should do. I'm sorry but if you can't handle someone's opinion a forum is not for you. I did nothing different than what you just said yourself. Actually it gave me a good laugh. I am glad your crystal ball is working too!
  21. Why would it shock you? He's putting up the season he's having as one of the youngest people in the Southern league against a bunch of the pitchers on the same list (Berrios, Stephenson, Snell,...). It's possible he will be ranked higher. He is killing the ball and playing high level MLB defense at 20. He's a stud. He's our very own Addison Russell. The last guy we has like this was Escobar, but I don't think he was ever this good; he certainly wasn't ranked this highly. Not to be picky but it think he is more a Fransisco Lindor. Not quite Russell talent/potential since he lacks to power. I guess it is just more surprising a guy like Orlando Arcia has even made his way into the Top 10 conversation. He had no previous track record to really push him(high pick, high international guy). He has just worked his way up from nothing. I mean Top 10 prospects are guys to build around and be perennial All Star at the next level. That is truly elite status. I also thought that Top 50 midseason lists were greatly effected by that years stats, but their 2014 Top 10 looks to be nearly identicle to their 2015 pre season. Now he just has to convince every one else he is a Top 10 guy. Baseball Prospectus rated him in the #25 range. Amazing how far one can come in just a couple years. I have always been an Arcia believer. Always thought he would end up in the Top 25.
  22. Lucroy is wrong because he wants to compete, period. That was the whole point of his rant. He thinks our first rounders aren't helping us compete. THAT IS FALSE. I really don't care if they are garbage major leaguers. They helped us compete and to Lucroy that is what matters. If we trade our first rounders for a Cy Young caliber pitcher that somehow is not helping us compete? That is not panning out? If you acquire a player and he builds trade value you cash in on he has panned out for you. Past that who cares. The fact that we have failed to draft talent to impact an MLB roster and put up some stats is a totally different subject. We have not maximized our value in the first round. Like drafting some solid MLB players, but we still have come out with some decent value...we just accomplished it in other ways by trading them while they were still prospects. I guess in Lucroy's eyes LaPorta has been more valuable to the Brewers than Segura because he helped the Brewers compete. Unlike Segura who has technically provided nothing in 3 years because the Brewers have not competed. And for the record a guy like Odorizzi is still paying off for us. Odorizzi turned into Greinke who turned into Segura who some think will turn into another legit prospect or two. So yes we are still riding that wave.
  23. Lucroy just trying to make a solid club house atmosphere.
  24. Jeffress, Odorizzi, LaPorta, and Lawrie were all huge parts of the 2008/2011 runs. The fact they didn't pan out elsewhere is not the Brewers problem. They did their job for the Brewers by being valuable trade pieces. Lucroy is flat out wrong saying Braun is the last good thing they got out of the 1st round. They ended up with great value from 2006, 2007, and 2008.
  25. What exactly did he say that was so knowledgeable? Your expectations must have been rock bottom. All I heard was: Our first rounders have done nothing since Ryan Braun(which is false and pretty narrow minded). We are a mid market that can't go out and sign players to massive contracts.(pre school level baseball economics)
