  1. Smith's looked like vaseline on the arm. I wonder if he gets any additional trouble for trying to snatch the baseball away from the ump on his way to the dugout.
  2. Evidently the fresh prince doesn't like it when people see his arm junk.
  3. That pitch was straight out of the homerun Darby. Did you see the grin on his face when he got in the box? And then Sanchez just grooves him a hanger that probably half of us fans would have gotten out of the infield. Not a bad Brewer debut for Knebel tonight, too.
  4. jjkoestler Yeah I'd noticed some talk about lack of pull HRs for Braun, and was thinking how I didn't remember him going to left a whole lot after the first 3-4 years, so did a little investigating. I'm out in Bethel, AK. Looking forward to a summertime trip to Wisconsin and seeing some Brewers and Timber Rattlers games.
  5. I'm not really concerned about that. He's got 24 HR to left from 2011-present, so it's not new. He only had 4 to left in 2011 MVP year.
  6. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I just was curious what the people who were lucky enough to watch yesterday's game thought.
  7. On MLBN they were just going off about how Lohse should have gotten to the chance try the 9th at 107 pitches. I could only follow the game online so I have no eye test on this one. I generally, with my heart, as a baseball fan believe in giving a guy a chance at a shutout if it makes sense. Heck at his age, nothing's a given, that might be Kyle's last shot at one. Obviously I don't want to see somebody get overextended. But that said, CG shutouts are special.
  8. Watching that play of his tonight ought to help fans forgive Rickie for not wanting to try the outfield last year for Milwaukee.
  9. You jinxed him! I literally just came here for the purpose of writing a formal apology to everybody for tonight's loss. This one's on me, folks.
  10. The 2001 68 win Brewer team had a stretch where they went 25-18 as an example. So true. Like in 2003 when our currently 48-75 club banged out 10 in a row. That was big fun.
  11. For the darkhorse pick I'll go Blazek.
  12. I thought yesterday's shakeup was quality. It was nice to see C. Gomez have a nice night batting cleanup. His '13 and '14 splits vs. LHP are fine, maybe we'll see more of him in the 4 spot vs. LHP at least, even if CC plans to generally put Lind there.
  13. One time I was looking up the pitch counts of the infamous Spahn vs Marichal 7/2/63 game, and I came across an interview with Juan Marichal, and this quote from it has always stuck with me: "Pitch counts? You're not going to have a strong arm if you don't throw. That's why I think I threw so many complete games, because I used my arm. I loved to throw. The only way you can get a strong arm is by throwing. Today, 70, 80 pitches and you're out." I think there is a lot of truth to that, but I also tend to agree with what 'stache said with regards to pushing the envelope and higher arm stress. I think the eye test can get you to the crux of what is at play. Look at some video of any 5 MLB pitchers from say the 50s or 60s. Compare the fluidity of delivery and evident arm stress to video of 5 current MLB pitchers, especially some of the younger "flamethrowers." The difference is certainly notable.
  14. Agreed. One interesting stat from yesterday: Milwaukee pitchers combined for 72 more pitches than LA. Granted they pitched one more inning, still that's a lot of a pitch differential for a game they won.
  15. It isn't bad, it makes some sense. However, in a bad season it sure would be nice to have at least one thing to hang your hat on. For me, if i got to have my choice of one silver lining on a season like this, I'd like that silver lining to be Milwaukee handing the Cubs' hind ends to them.
  16. One very irritating Brewers tradition: with 2 outs, walking the opponent's weak #8 (or in this case with Maddon emulating LaRussa, #7) hitter, thus allowing them to clear the pitcher.
  17. Wow the guys on MLBN sure had themselves a good laugh at Segura on the Parra bunt popup DP.
  18. Everything 'Stache said, and I'd like to add: If the Brewers do win the World Series someday, it won't really feel right without a crazed Uecker sound clip to go along with the win. Imagine if they got a K for the final out to put it away, it would be the HEEEEEEeeeee heard 'round the world.
  19. I bet Milwaukee could put on a $.10 beer night that would give Cleveland a run for their money.
  20. No argument there, but it was my understanding that the 25th spot this spring was between Logan and Herrera. In any case, when Carlos returns I hope Logan goes to Colorado, and when Scooter returns I hope Herrera stays up. Not that it matters what I hope, but...
  21. Why Logan made the opening day roster over Herrera is anybody's guess. Elian comes in off a hot start and hot spring, switch hitter. The way the bats have been, Elian should probably be somewhere in the lineup every day while he's up for us.
  22. Tom Brunansky, Bill Hall and Franklin Stubbs are some I remember hearing booed loudly during the opening lineup at games I was at.
  23. I definitely think he needs an honest chance, but if he gets completely eaten alive for a month, starting him against LHP for another month might not be such an easy pill to swallow.
  24. I was at this game in Milwaukee as a child. I remember parking on Bluemound, watching Dempsey, and walking back up the hill in the rain. It is one of my favorite baseball games I have ever gone to. Beat me to it. I too was at that game as a kid. Growing up we made it to only a couple games per season as a family and it always seemed to have a rain delay. For a player known for an oddity...One that stands out is how Glenn Braggs would break bats on his own back when swinging through a strike.
