  1. CheezWiz- That is fascinating data. I'd be interested in seeing how it trends further back in history, but I'm not sure how to dig up this particular data on baseball reference.
  2. I guess it reminded me of it because of the similarities of the signings. Team looking for an affordable FA, sign a lefty in his early thirties coming off his best couple years since he was 25-26, to a 3 year deal that in all likelihood will be the last big paycheck of his career. Wolf had a better body of work before our contract, sure, especially in innings pitched. But in either case, it's a 33 year old with a career ERA around 4. Edit: No ill feelings towards Wolf here. He was pretty solid for us for the first 2 years of the deal.
  3. This reminds me so much of the Randy Wolf signing. I'm glad to feel confident we won't see signings like this for Milwaukee for the foreseeable future.
  4. We'll see how this contract plays out. I have to admit, I halfway hoped the cubs would be the ones to sign Price.
  5. I didn't like seeing Klitschko lose that way today. Just a really passive fight, not really showing the will to win, against somebody he could have handily beaten with a different mindset and strategy.
  6. If we're using twice through the order as a benchmark, a guy could technically go 6 innings max. I'd think anyone would be hesitant to pull a guy who's faced the minimum through 6, or is in a similar groove. Have his pitching partner work an inning or two to finish the game, then maybe extended work in a bullpen session or make him "pitcher A" 4 days from now. I'm sure there are plenty of managers who could work it out. Probably not Ned or Ron, but some could...
  7. I think some pitchers would be on board once they started to maximize their effectiveness. With smart game planning, I think a team could get pretty good performance out of mid level pitchers. Sure maybe their win totals would be lower but in theory so would their ERA.
  8. KROD to the Tigers for Betancourt and PTBNL Not to stray any further off topic here, but: I have for years been fascinated by what possibilities might be for a team to commit to playing a season with the "tandem starter" approach the TLR tried in 93 with Oakland. The main premise being to eliminate hitters seeing a pitcher for the 3rd time through the order, have 2 guys paired up to throw say 4 innings each in a game. One of the big hurdles is keeping the starters satisfied, knowing they can't earn a win. It would take strong leadership, young guys, and complete buy-in to commit to something outside the box. Of course it won't happen, but the 2016 Brewers, with their young guys vying and hoping for rotation spots, as well as low expectations, would be as good a team as any to give it a try from day 1. It sure would be interesting.
  9. If there were a "good" off season to be looking to add FA SP, this is it. My nightmare is they sign Gallardo and he has the best year of his career with them.
  10. I thought he might possibly get a crack at 2016 3b or utility infielder. Hopefully he doesn't come around to bite us some day.
  11. Per the article, the Brewers received $80k. I guess I just don't see it as a big deal for anyone involved.
  12. I am just relieved that at least I don't have to suffer through seeing the cubs or the cards go to the WS. Now I can just simply root for good baseball.
  13. I would have liked a better look at how good of a chance Gimenez had at a dp throw to 1b without the takeout cleat slide from Pompey. Espn has it omitted from their clips, I can't find a look at it. Because if Texas turns 2 there, Odor is playing 2b at normal position instead of DP position, and easily catches Donaldson's flyball to end the inning. That takeout of the catcher might well be the straw that broke the Rangers' backs. Oh well, good for Toronto.
  14. At this point I'd live with anything but the cubs. What I wouldn't give for a sequel to the Bartman incident.
  15. Saw this on espn. Hopefully things work out for the best for the big man. http://espn.go.com/newyork/mlb/story/_/id/13822358/subtle-warning-signs-seen-baltimore-newyork-yankees-pitcher-cc-sabathia
  16. I can appreciate that sentiment. Step 1, have a seat yankees. Step 2, bye bye cubs. Step 3, cards season ends. After that I guess the Dodgers are in my crosshairs, and from there may the best team win.
  17. ^ This... Go anyone who plays the Cards from here on out as well! (Even the Cubs!) I think we are all in agreement here.
  18. In July Manfred said Montreal would have to agree to build a new stadium in order to be considered. Another thing that I think could be difficult for a team in Mexico would be in getting players to play for them. Not just MLB but 5 levels of minor leagues. Then again, who knows, maybe it would be a non-issue. It would certainly be interesting.
  19. Manfred's short list is Montreal, Charlotte, Portland, Vegas, OK City, San Antonio, New Jersey, Mexico City and Monterrey. So if it were to be two from this list, what would be both viable and tolerable?
  20. My first look at Barrios. Certainly like what I see, seems like a good return on the Aramis trade.
  21. Well I had Koufax and Gooden on the carsoup trivia, beyond that was scratching my head.
  22. Always a sad day when the season ends. For me, a bittersweet tradition growing up was listening to Uecker on the radio for the last game of a (usually) disappointing season. There was just something about it. We have a lot to be excited for, moving into next year. Casual fans, not so much probably. But for the kinds of fans that post and lurk here, the next year ought to be quite interesting.
