  1. Oh yeah he has a paywall now. It's an article of lower expectations for this seasons team than most would have.
  2. Can you give any specific examples?
  3. At least trash can wily is ruining AAA playoff chances instead of Milwaukee's.
  4. So I thought this was interesting https://www.bobmcginnfootball.com/columns/lesson-learned-packers-will-not-go-super-bowl/ I don't at all agree with the reasoning, but it is an interesting article.
  5. That is some crazy wind. Great baserunning to score on that too.
  6. I mean if you win both series you'd be two games back all else equal. It's certainly not over if they win the series.
  7. One thing I like this year in September is it seems Stearns is fine with bringing up just about everyone to the active roster. Melvin always seemed to complain about too many people being allowed to be active during September and I always thought that was dumb. The rules are what they are, take advantage of them, put 12 guys in your bullpen, carry a pinch runner, 4 catchers, whatever. I don't care if a few of them are only used once or twice the whole month.
  8. 16-14 heading to the 9th! Looks like Trash Can Wily in prime form
  9. Stupid question or no one has a guess? The pregame roids start to wear off by the 5th inning
  10. Was wondering if all the Georgia fans in attendance would be on our side, but I guess not. Anyways Go Brewers and Go Irish!
  11. I should note, I'm not saying last year's offense was good in any way. It was one of the worst we've had in years, but that was more due to lack of talent. We were in year 1 of a rebuild and we had Ramon Flores, Alex Pressley, Colin Walsh, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and other simlar players getting a ton of ABs. I thought it was going to be more of a system wide approach change that would pay dividends down the road.
  12. What I'm really worried about is our walk rate has plummeted this year. I thought we'd be seeing a different, better approach, and walking more after what I saw last year, but it's reverted right back to where we used to be. You can't lead the league in strikeouts and not walk, that's a lot of terrible at bats.
  13. I've been thinking this for weeks. I feel like I've been disagreeing with most of his decisions for a while. I feel like he overmanages in the wrong spots and has been making poor decisions. I felt like his biggest mistake yesterday was letting Barnes face Votto. I have absolutely no idea what he was thinking letting that happen. Sure Gennett hit a HR off wang, I still felt like the right move there is having Wang face votto. Clearly Barnes didn't have it and he was already around 20 pitches. I'm also not sure why Villar was bunting there, that hasn't been his strategy all season...why switch in September? And then all this tinkering with the lineup, and why in the world has Thames been sitting so much? Is he injured and I'm completely unaware of it? Thames was career 2 for 2 with 2 hr against the starter last night, why in the world would you bench him unless he's injured. I hope he's taking notes of the decisions he's making...as a young manager he should be learning from some of these mistakes. Yeah lately the lineups have kind of reminded me of the old Ken Macha throw darts at a dartboard blind way of deciding a lineup. It can't really be anything analytical when you put Hernan Perez at the leadoff spot.
  14. Why even bother calling up Taylor Williams if you're just gonna use trash can Torres.
  15. That's usually the case when you're all of the sudden putting up runs in a big deficit against a new pitcher. The Reds have plenty of bad pitchers, they also have a good one whose coming in now to probably shut this down.
  16. Failure to use data to make decisions. Thames has a 1.408 OPS vs. the Reds. And he sits for Neil Walker at 1B. In Counsel's defense those are heavily skewed numbers, Thames has been below replacement level since April.
  17. "He showed bunt twice that AB with 2 strikes. They don't have a 'cut that crap out' sign to give him after the first one?" I mean it's Villar, half the time I don't think he knows what planet he's on.
  18. Fair point. I mean I'm not trying to say I'd rather have weak contact instead of strikeouts. The goal overall is to have a higher percentage of hard contact.
  19. Not only do you take the bat out of his hand, you do it with 2 strikes. Bunting with 2 strikes with anybody but the pitcher is really dumb, doing it with a hot bat is absolutely mind-blowing stupid. It's something I would have not been overly surprised with from Yost or Roenicke, but I really thought Counsell was a little smarter than that. Seems to be an emotional move made out of frustration. I think it might've been Villar's decision. Counsel is not a bad manager and you just don't see a lot of the head scratching things out of him that you did out of past Brewer managers.
  20. [sarcasm]BUT STRIKEOUTS DON'T MATTER!!!1!!1![/sarcasm] I always find it funny. In the sabermetric era, velocity and strikeouts are king for pitchers, yet not so important for hitters. You've got to be able to make up for not putting the ball in play by being good in a lot of other areas. Past Brewer lineups could, but not this one.
  21. You can bunt all day, steal bases, play all the small ball you want, if you can't consistently hit the ball, it doesn't matter, you lose.
