Piggyback to perfection so far! -
One inning is an opener, maybe two but that's pushing it, three or four innings is a short starter. The next guy that comes in is the piggyback assuming they're in to pitch multiple innings. You could also see short starter pitch like 3.1, stopper get out of the jam, and then the piggyback pitcher come in a clean inning. Of course all of this only applies if it's planned. A starter leaving early due to injury or ineffectiveness and a long reliever coming in to eat innings isn't really a piggyback.

Don't look now, but this team is starting to come together. Just as all their pitchers are getting healthy too.

It was a rhetorical question. Many teams have outliers. I watched the red sox the other day score 13 runs in the bottom of the 8th. I think at least 7 runs off a position player. It all averages out.

Probably. I think if I remember right he has some innings based incentives in his contract, so they will definitely cut him before he gets to those.

Yeah but there isn't much you can do about that. They either hit or they don't. A manager can definitely make better decisions in managing the pitching staff.

Turned the game off the second I saw Alexander on the mound. Another dumb early hook of a starter.

Used to be 120 pitches you go to the bullpen, then 100, now 80, all while injuries continue to skyrocket

Good idea on paper but it all falls apart when the piggy back pitcher is pulled after going one inning and giving up four runs.

I think we're at the point now where you just have the starter go out and throw 105 pitches regardless of the score and outcome.

Pitchers have never been paid more, never pitched less, and never gotten hurt more often than in today's game.

I mean yes it absolutely is how the human body works. If he was sitting at 25 ip so far and was often being used 4/5 days that would be much worse than the actual situation.

Megill hasn't been used that much this year. A team should be fine using their closer in 4 out of 5 days.

Yeah looks like from what I see online the ability to call a game early due to weather is still in place. Now on a less important note, does anyone know if the stats count from this inning or do they consider the game over after 5 innings?

If I'm seeing the radar correctly, it looks like it's going to rain for a while. Does anyone know the current rules for ending a game early, or suspending a game, or how that works in 2025?

Well if everyone gets healthy they're about to have more starters than they need. Chad Patrick could be someone who does this, maybe DL Hall. Could even get a call up of jacob misiorowski. Remember how Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff were used in 2018.
