  1. Well both of those things are true. It is just baseball, but these losses have also been very painful. You can be on the bad side of variance like the Brewers have been the last few years and it's really painful and awful.
  2. That's why winning that one game playoff in Chicago in 2018 was such a great win. Back when winning the division really meant something. That's still my favorite Brewer game I ever attended, and I've attended three different NLDS wins.
  3. Thing about baseball is anything can happen in a single game. It's tough for people to accept but the results in a short series don't often match the quality of play. The better team only has a slightly better chance to win.
  4. Agree completely. You know today and yesterday I was pretty nerved up about the game. Really made sure to watch every pitch. Makes you realize it's not ever like that in the regular season. It's never like the end of the year in '08 or '18. It seems unlikely that a 90+ win season wouldn't make it in this system and if you are in a tight race for the 6th spot, your team probably isn't all that good and you still have the stupid three game series looming.
  5. If you walk by a roulette wheel that comes up black 2 out of the last 9 times do you bet all your money on red?
  6. That is true. Avoiding the extra round of coinflips is beneficial.
  7. It is. You can go 2/9 on coinflips like the Brewers have since '08 (Not including the covid year). That's not really all that unlikely from a statistical standpoint.
  8. The Dodgers have won the WS one out of their last seventeen postseason appearances. Last year they were swept in the NLDS by a team that finished twenty games behind them.
  9. Payroll disparity only matters with getting to the postseason. Winning a series is a coinflip. Sure, the better team may win 55% of the time if they have a big advantage but you won't get a bigger edge than that in baseball.
  10. Yeah, I just listened to it too on the mlb app archive. Absolutely heartbreaking to hear him call the homerun. I think we've all dreamed of hearing Uecker call a WS win but with every passing year the odds get longer and longer. This current postseason system is absolutely brutal. It is awful to have to now win three series coinflips just to make it to a WS.
  11. Id get someone warming in the pen after that first pitch
  12. No better time than now for a Menards Big Inning!
  13. There is a lot of luck involved in short postseason series but making terrible decisions time and time again certainly hurts. There is no reason Montas should have started this game and there is no reason he should still be in this game.
  14. Random variance for the most part. Each season is a different team with many different players. Less so in 2020 though. That team gets lumped in with other postseason losses but that team shouldn't have been there and was significantly worse than the dodgers.
  15. Yeah but there's nothing more that can be done than try to build a team to have a great regular season and hope for the best. This postseason system is terrible. Any team can win one or two games against any other team and in the postseason when teams are this close together every series is a coinflip. Sure I think the brewers may be slightly better than the mets this year and if they played this one thousand times in the longrun, the brewers win the series 53% of the time. But there is no long run. It's one series. Anything can happen.
  16. Giving up three runs in four innings is not good enough.
  17. One of the biggest negatives to this game, is the guy who should be tomorrow's game 2 starter is currently pitching in this game in a lost cause.
  18. https://x.com/SamKuffelWx/status/1841151024314085631?t=luriARno4Op5MzsLM3gAiA&s=19
  19. Yeah the other day in the gym I heard he's up to using the 10 pound dumbbells.
