  1. Wren would have to make it Willy Mays Hayes style because he was't invited to major league camp.
  2. It is probably too early to bring up the young starters and the reality is most young starters struggle at least most of their first season unless they are super ace type pitchers. The pitching on this team is going to hold them back this year. Stick a league average rotation on this offense and we can talk playoffs as a possibility. Even if a lot of the offense might not be the long term solutions they have talent all over it. Not sure I agree that most starter struggle initially beyond stepping up to a more challenging lever. Sure performance is volatile, but for every Dana Eveland that comes up and gets shellacked; there is a Taylor Jungmann who big league hitters inexplicably cannot figure out for a dozen starts. Which starter is too early? We have limited developmental options with a AAA team at 6,000 feet Luis Ortiz, sure. Woodruff is 24. Do we really need to wait to his 25th birthday if he repeats or builds off of last season? Even if you wait ‘til after the expected super 2 cutoff, its not unreasonable that Hader could get 17 starts/100 innings. If Jorge Lopez continues ~3:1 K:BBs at AA to start the year, you really want to send him back to AAA over giving him a shot at some role in Milwaukee. Even the Brewers fringe types, who have non-zero chances of going on a productive run. I like Wilkerson more than most. Barbosa does a lot of nifty things. Milone, while more track record of inconsistency and mediocrity than fringe, has a past ~3 win season to his name. Maybe Jungmann re-finds his velocity and enough command in the bullpen that he makes a successful couple start run. There is likely scenarios where we suck, granted; but Im not ready to call it a certainty.
  3. If those were the only 6 pitchers they had, I'd agree that they'd be terrible. But they have options. If you have 10 pitchers who have a 10% chance of being a good pitcher, its likely at least one will be a good pitcher. The best 2 pitchers last season weren't on the opening day roster. Could happen again. Also; somehow, pretty much those 6 guys produced a sub 4 era and the 12th highest WAR in baseball in the 2nd half last season. As for Santana, Im not ready to conclude "he is a very average player". May end up that, may end up less than that. But he is only 24 and did hit 122 wRC+ in the second half. Though I agree with the overall point that they will find a spot somewhere when Brinson is ready.
  4. The alternate channel wasn't available on the app. At least not today. The nice thing about Sling is they carry try channel in their regular lineup, so you don't need to load a separate Fox Sports Go app to watch Weird, might be a location thing, but I watched the game just fine on it and Tuesday's game is already listed as "featured."
  5. It's on the alternate channel, if you can get it. I just signed up for a seven day trial of Sling to get it, since it's not on Playstation Vue (we don't have cable in our house anymore). You should have access to the games on the Fox Sports Go App with a PS Vue subscription.
  6. I see Nick Ramirez struck out the side. I don't know if they have stadium guns in Maryville (never been), but anyone see a velocity report?
  7. Find me any projection that has Perez being a better hitter than Susac...... Over 162 games, random illnesses and strange things happen. Additional versatility is not a bad thing.
  8. Unfortunately, the Brewers didn't invite much for non-roster prospects to big league camp. While they could get called up on any day you are more likely to see Stephen Kohlscheen or Paolo Espino than Woodruff or Ortiz. Still exciting but probably not the same level of desire for future impact. I thought I remember the Melvin era including more pitching prospect in camp, but then I have a hard time remembering any pitching prospects in the Melvin era.
  9. Brewers Record: 83-79, 724 RS 713 RA, 3rd in the Central Consequence free prediction! PECOTA has us at 720 runs and I really like our offense though infield depth doesn’t look good. Broxton, Santana, and Thames are all guys I’m targeting in the late rounds of fantasy. 713 runs against might be a bit of a stretch, but only a 20 run improvement. I think our defense will be helped by the improvements of Arcia, Shaw, Thames and Broxton everyday. I think our pitching depth will be more impactful than the projection system credit. Having more 1-2 WAR SP options, makes it more likely someone exceeds their 50th percentile. Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Broxton by WAR, Braun by counting stats Brewers CY Young: Zach Davies, if they do not raise the strike zone or properly enforce it; Guerra (although I trade him below) otherwise Brewers ROY: Aaron Wilkerson First player traded: Junior Guerra Surprise player: Jorge Lopez Disappointing player: Villar, I think he decreases his K rate, but not enough to offset declines in BABIP, power World Series: Red Sox over Dodgers Also to add, John Lackey and his long memory is enough for me to have distaste for Cubs players.
  10. According to an interview with a Brazilian website? and my interpretation of Google Translator, Missaki underwent a second procedure at some point in the last year. Also an interesting note on Eric Pardinho, a 15-year old member of the Brazilian national team with a 94 mph fastball. [iNTERVIEW] Meet Daniel Missaki, another Brazilian who can make a success in MLB Young Thrower Daniel Missaki talks about his future with the Milwaukee Brewers Daniel Missaki playing for the Brazilian national teamDaniel Missaki emerged to the world of baseball in 2012, participating in one of the great moments of Brazilian baseball. At just 15 years old, the young pitcher entered the field in Panama to close the Brazilian victory over Colombia, qualifying the Brazilian team for the final of the World Baseball Classic qualifying round. Less than a year later, shortly after completing 16 years, Missaki signed with the Seattle Mariners and went to try his luck in baseball in the United States. In 2015, when he began to climb the Minor Leagues and caught the attention of the franchise, suffered a concussion at the elbow and had to undergo the dreaded surgery Tomy John. Amidst recovery, he was traded with the Milwaukee Brewers in the business that led first baseman Adam Lind to the Mariners. After undergoing another Tomy John surgery, Daniel Missaki is completing his recovery and should return to the lawns soon. Taking advantage of the month of January in São Paulo with his family, the young talent of 20 years, who was born in Fujinomiya, Japan, gave exclusive interview to The Playoffs with a stage that has everything to do with his profession: The Pitchers Burger and Baseball, the themed bar that is in Vila Clementino. Check it: Tommy John Surgery Recovery "Now it's going well, the Milwaukee Brewers are slowing down, giving more time to rehabilitation, since it's the second operation I'm going through so I can get better." The concussion "I was acting, I was in the 5th inning of a game, and when I threw it, I felt my elbow clatter. How this happens when I find it, I thought it was normal, and I continued. The next pitch did not arrive (at home plate), at the time I called the doctor, he moved and took me out of the game. The chip fell afterwards, but I'm relieved that 90% of the pitchers who go through surgery return to normal play. " Being switched while recovering from surgery "I was informed of the exchange (of the Seattle Mariners with the Milwaukee Brewers) when I was doing the rehab of the first surgery. The Seattle directors called me in the office and told me to pack things up, because I would continue work at the Brewers complex (the two are in different Arizona towns). I changed the complex and stayed two more weeks to get to know everything and continue the recovery. " How was the exchange? "The Brewers folks welcomed me very well, but no one told me anything about plans, expectations. Only the players themselves have said that normally, whoever is traded by an MLB player climbs faster within the Minor Leagues. I feel they trust me, let's see when I get back. " Expectation for 2017 "I have not received any official information yet. What I heard when I asked is that I probably start at Extended Spring Training, already acting, and from there they will send me to some minor league franchise, but there is no definition of what it will be. " Daniel Missaki in BrazilEvolution in the United States "My game has changed a lot. Here in Brazil, you can hold any team with only the fastball. In the United States, you do not have to throw at 105 miles per hour, they will rebound your shot, just watch the (Aroldis) Chapman, if he only plays straight ball, they will rebound. I learned to control, in the first year everyone rebuked against me, there I learned when to play the low ball, when to use the effect, where to command the fast ball. " Feedback from coaches "(If you go wrong in a game), do not say it was good, but you do not scold. There is a lot of talk, they ask what you did wrong and what was good, because there is always something good about your performance, only you have to figure it out yourself. " Home in the United States "I spoke a little English when I signed and I arrived in the United States, but the transition was not so complicated because the Seattle Mariners were Pedro Ivo Okuda, Luiz Gohara and Thyago Vieira, that made it much easier." Contact with Thyago Vieira and Luiz Gohara "Our relationship is brother, one helps the other, when you need something we help each other, when it was acting bad, we always tried to help ourselves." Confidence of the Mariners in Brazilians "Other franchises lack the same. The doors are opening, little by little, but it's still a bit lacking that the franchises will bet in Brazil. " Growth of Brazilians "It's changing the way the MLB franchises look at the Brazilians, because everyone in the United States is showing work, striving hard, and this is catching the eye and creating a good reputation for Brazilian players." Contact with MLB stars "When I was at the Seattle Mariners, Felix Hernandez occasionally showed up on our training camp during Spring Training. In the beginning, I thought he would be very arrogant, but he was very humble, he talked to us, he's a very calm guy. " What will it be like when you reach MLB "It will be a dream come true. What moves me is the will to be able to face the best, every stage you go, every level that goes up, will increase the will, you always want a bigger challenge, and the biggest challenge there is Major League Baseball " . Career in Japan "When I was younger, I always wanted to go to Japan, MLB did not even go through my head, what I wanted to do was to play in Japan. But they rolled a lot and I decided that I did not want Japan anymore, I wanted to go to Japan. U.S. When the Major League franchises arrived, the Japanese people still came back. " Daniel Missaki performing at the World Baseball Classic at the age of 15Experience at the WBC "Having Barry Larkin as coach was an incredible experience for me, it was a leap from one level to another. In the cast, there was no such thing as older or younger, the team was one, so even me being younger, having this age difference, they helped me, anything I needed, any questions I had, they came And they helped me, I gained a lot of experience and learned a lot from those people. " Panama qualifying "We had no idea what was happening, we just wanted to play. The record did not fall even in Panama, we were only able to understand what happened when we returned to Brazil. " The WBC group in Japan "There was perhaps a little organization left. The key game, for me, was the first, against Japan, we did not even expect to play the game against Japan, there was a lack of organization. If Yan Gomes had played the group in the first round, it would have been different, the weight he already had at that time would have made the difference. WBC 2021 "Brazil will have a very strong team. The staff at Minor Leagues will have a lot more experience, and the MLB staff, Paulo Orlando, André Rienzo and Yan Gomes, will also gain a lot of experience, if there is a tournament, Brazil will have a very good team. " Eric Pardinho "I think spending the middle of that year, when he turns 16, should go to the United States. The Milwaukee Brewers people have already asked about him, there were agents who tried to close with him, Pardinho must have plenty of opportunities. " Structure of Brazilian baseball "The CT Yakult (in Ibiúna) is very good, but only has the CT Yakult. Brazil needed one or two options, other training centers of this level, to reveal even more talent. " How to raise the level of baseball in Brazil "For this, games need to be more frequent. In the United States, we play every day, train in the morning and play in the afternoon, here you play a tournament for a weekend and then a month without acting. " World Cup "If I am released by the franchise, I intend to play in the Brazilian Cup, yes, but I am really depending on the release, it does not depend only on my will. Playing with the guys you played when I was in my teens, five years ago, is really good. " Missaki in 2017 "Just wait, that in 2017 I'll come back busting."
  11. Any idea as to how much let's say buying Colorado Springs franchise would be? Asking for a friend. In 2014, members of the Dodgers ownership bought the Oklahoma City reportedly for between 23-25 million. So probably around that.
  12. While I agree with you, so far we are 0-fer in our attempts to churn anything. Maybe I'm misinterpreting this comment or you are just referencing this offseason, but wouldn't last season's 3.0 bWAR, likely 2017 opening day starter be something?
  13. I really enjoyed that Ehire Adrianza made it less likely we were going to give Rivera and DeJesus 300 ABs for no good reason so this move saddens me a little.
  14. His career AAA line is .311/.391/.822 in Fresno/Sacto Rivera's line is: .232/.264/.577 in Colorado Springs Rivera is about as close to him as Travis Shaw is to Kris Bryant. For a bigger sample, Rivera's minor league OPS is .633 and Adrianza's is .694, but I strongly agree with the larger point. This is why I did not want the Brewers to protect Rivera - there will be other guys as good or better who will be available via the waiver wire for free. Would rather have Diaz than Rivera. Sure but that includes what Adrianza over 10 years ago. I know people have mixed feelings about projections, but ZIPs pegs Ehire worth 2.5 more wins/500PA. They aren't really close. I'm not wild about Ehire's present or future, but his offense is pretty much projected to equal to Scooter and Hernan.
  15. I'd consider Nelson for Simmons, but I don't think Simmons could have prevented 2014 collapse so I'll go with Turner over Medeiros as well at this point.
  16. His career AAA line is .311/.391/.822 in Fresno/Sacto Rivera's line is: .232/.264/.577 in Colorado Springs Rivera is about as close to him as Travis Shaw is to Kris Bryant.
  17. If the Brewers are already going through the trouble of purchasing a franchise, they might as well buy one in a desirable or even tolerable location, rather than throwing ~30 million into a park in a saturated, small by AAA standards market. Granted Madison has less going on in the summer.
  18. While I have no idea if it is causation or correlation, this would seem to be the one spot where the organization did not underperform expectations. I'm underwhelmed but I know nothing of the personalities, or the caliber of coaches, but how can anyone in the front office really be satisfied with last season's results of last season?
  19. Weird that Longenhagen was tweeting about Taylor Williams 95-99 velocity in instructionals but didnt even give him a mention.
  20. Nope just the general dismissal of Wilkerson as a viable rotation candidate entering the season is perplexing to me. MLB hitters may or may not be fooled by his fastball, but I would put the odds similar or higher than Nelson or Jungmann throwing enough strikes or Matt Garza finding the fountain of youth. Most projections peg him as our 3rd best starter behind only Davies and Hader ahead of Guerra. Explain to me why with his statistical profile or scouting report why Wilkerson cannot achieve results similar to Mike Fiers. Now you can argue we've evolved beyond needing players of Mike Fiers' talent level but I think we could always find a use for a player who can give us 3.5 ERA/FIP in his first 230 innings.
  21. Stearns didn't acquire Wilkerson to make Colorado Springs better and write him off as a 4A player. If he would have been Rule 5 eligible, I fully believe he would have been up last September. He may be unlikely to make the rotation out of spring training while they sort through any advancement made by Garza/Nelson/Peralta, but he will get his shot and I'd put his over/under at 10 starts this season. Honestly, I'd put him ahead of Jungmann on the depth chart right now.
  22. Or not.. if you wanted me to handicap the odds in any given year that the pick would not move back either due to a FA or unsigned 1st rounder, I would have guess 1 in 100.
  23. One weird stat on Cordell is his BABIP went from .349 in the first half to .230 in the second half last season. Don't know if he forgot how to hit the ball hard or if it was an injury or if he was just went from lucky to pretty unlucky over night.
  24. How poor is this man? Kershaw has had a K-BB% over 27% the last 3 seasons. Gray's is 12.7% for his career. I guess they are both major league pitchers in the state of California, but I see noting else that is even remotely comparable between the 2.
  25. So....when are we going to be hearing about turnover in our development staff? The lack of pitching scouting and development has been discussed alot, but the recent hitting development might be more troublesome. Roache- Hasn't shown any advancement since he has been in the system. Haniger- Didn't do anything until he left the organization Taylor and Coulter- Each has carrying tools, but neither has shown much of a pulse in the last 2 seasons outside of Coulter's BABIP inflated AA run. Harrison and Gatewood- Still not producing. Lara and Orimoleye- Not seeing any results of "development" here yet. Phillips, Nottingham, and Betancourt- all saw dips in production after they came over Clark- The amount of strikeouts in A ball was troubling. You could give credit for Arcia and Reed but both of them took pretty big steps backward last season. Sure, alot of it is scouting misses and maybe some makeup concerns, but its hard for me to think we have a competitive development structure and staff based off what I currently see for results on the field. Maybe changes are taking place here that aren't being reported, but all the talent in the world isn't going to do us any good if we can't develop it.
