  1. Rays select Adam Haseley at 1.4
  2. You may not be wrong as teams have their own internal evaluations of prospects and tend to really like their own (as thats why they have them). However, is there any independent source that has ever rated Mckenzie ahead of just Ray alone as a prospect? MLB.com, Baseball America, Fangraphs, Baseball Prospectus, ESPN all have Ray higher. I don't think a slow return from knee surgery has hurt Ray's prospect evaluations as much as with biox score followers.
  3. Padres select Hunter Greene at 1-3. If he is there, I see no way the Padres are passing.
  4. Reds select Hunter Greene at 1-2. McKay being relatively local and they may like his proximity to the major if they think they need to make another run with Votto, but the Reds needs some impact talent and Greene has that.
  5. While Wang’s ERA is sparkling so far, his secondary numbers (K%/BB%) aren’t nearly as good as last season when he was left off the 40 man and not given a NRI to spring training. Though he will not help in the BB department, I’d personally bet on Barbosa getting a MLB shot first if they look internally for a pen lefty.
  6. Twins select Kyle Wright at 1-1. Hunter Greene price tag to the Twins and risk will outweigh his upside. Im guessing Wright will settle for less cash. I think the Twins prefer Wright as a pitcher over McKay but really I have no idea.
  7. I'll bite. While hitting well in Colorado Springs is far better than not hitting well in Colorado Springs, making meaningful statistical evaluations on less than 200 PAs half of which are 6000 ft above sea level is dangerous. Even more dangerous when they come with a 30%+ K rate.
  8. Call me Helen Keller. Stating Medeiros as a “repeat pitcher with a 5+ ERA” may be factually correct, but it isn’t an encompassing player profile. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Medeiros was the youngest pitcher in the FSL last season. He has improved his K-BB% from 0.2% to 15.3%. Reports are his velocity is up. His prospect status is rising currently.
  9. Medeiros ran out of gas, but was dominating a RH-heavy lineup (7 of 9 hitters). The last inning was a ERA buster, but he is at least back on the prospect map even if he is trending toward matchup reliever.
  10. 2 aces doesn’t make us a perennial World Series contender. If it did, the White Sox would have been habitually terrible with Sale and Quintana. You can argue that Quintana isn’t an “Ace” but 15 fWAR in 3 seasons cannot be far off. Prep arms aren’t the only way to get upside. You can cite Bumgarner and Kershaw as prep arms, but its not like a college arm couldn’t have the same upside. Mad Max and Sale were available at 1-9. Had we just drafted Stetson University pitchers after round 3 we could have had deGrom and Kluber… I am fine with taking prep arms if it is at the top of the board, I just don’t want to take Dylan Covey over Christian Yelich or Kodi Medeiros over Trea Turner (Even if Kodi has re-established dominance over left handed hitting), because we are looking for something that isn’t there. Its possible Groome is the best player in that draft, but if you let me redo that pick, I’m taking Puk at this point.
  11. Since 08, here is the list of high school pitchers in the top 10 or the first one taken. Certainly several of them are decent pitchers once you get past their Tommy Johns (Wheeler, Taillon, Bundy) or prospects, but not exactly a list of franchise players. I’m on board if they go HS pitching but they need not limit their board. 08 (Wow this was a bad draft…) (15) Ethan Martin 09 Matt Hobgood Zach Wheeler Jacob Turner 10 Jameson Taillon Karsten Whitson 11 Dylan Bundy Archie Bradley 12 Max Fried 13 Kohl Stewart Trey Bell Phil Bickford 14 Brady Aiken Tyler Kolek 15 (14) Kolby Allard
  12. Unfortunately with the current arbitration system there is millions of dollars of reason. The system rewards the save stat. The Brewers would be financially better served, probably better off in the W-L column and Knebel would have more value as an asset, if Feliz would regress his HR rate and Corey could be used in high leverage situations earlier regardless of who the better player is. Agreed that these motivations are poorly intended, but in a system that leaves the Brewers with an annual 9 figure revenue gap they are at further disadvantage if they do not push that line.
  13. Was he asking you for an eye exam? I really wish MILB.tv would get a ROKU app. I suppose I could figure out a way to get it to the TV with VGA or HDMI cables but then its the pain of cable management around the living room. To answer the question, usually the first half of most weeknight games. I have early work in the morning so even 7 pm starts are too late for me to watch the whole game.
  14. Well that and he signed with the organization whose AAA team with the most hitter friendly environment in baseball for hitters without power. He has a .742OPS on the road, he isnt having some late career breakout or anything.
  15. I have zero interest in watching Eric Sogard play baseball. Yippee he might put up a .050 ISO!
  16. It will be interesting what kind of price tag Boras will now float on Romero. He let Funkhouser take a huge loss by refusing to lower demands. And that was without the off the field concerns. What leverage does he have? I assume he has to sit out a year to go to another D1 school so that about leaves D2/NAIA or independent ball. Its hard to believe he can rebuild his stock at those levels better than it is now.
  17. I'm not sure what more people want to see our of Lopez at AA, but he is probably ready for his next developmental step.
  18. Tough crowd when 150 wRC+ doesn't get you "all that well". While a 30% K rate may be ominous for his future, but he is showing the most power of his career. Though I agree his future seems to be in another organization at this point. Before we start give away Santana's spot, I'd like to see Cordell, Brinson, or Phillips get their OPS above .800 on the road. Santana is still sporting a 106 wRC+ with a BABIP 70 points below his career average. We'll see where things are at in July.
  19. How are the under-sanctioned Cubs expected to sign the #30 prospect?
  20. I was hoping for Romero or JB Bukauskas, but Im doubting the Brewers are taking Romero at 9 after reading this article. With Boras as his agent, maybe bonus demands make him fall to 34? Realistically some large market team who can afford to whiff on a pick will probably pop for him in the 20-30 range I'm guessing.
  21. To be fair Haniger looks very good right now and McCullers was a top 15 talent who took a $2.5+ million bonus which would have been quite difficult for the Brewers to gain without punting on another of their top 3 picks.
  22. The Brewers liked Wilkerson enough to pull the trigger on a trade 2 weeks before the deadline to get him. His FIP is currently 1.3. He had a nice spring. I still think he is higher than Espino and Burgos if the need arises. Maybe his demotion to AA was a sign the Brewers have soured, but I suspect it was more protecting his confidence and building some momentum.
  23. Weird there is no financial details announced. I would assume an 18 year old in Mexico’s top league gets some bonus and his team put some value on purchasing his contract.
  24. Ok, I don’t mind getting Scahill up here because he will not walk guys which seems to be a problem so far with our current bullpen as constructed. Ugh, choosing to defend Milone again. Going into sat night, his xFIP and SIERA were both below 4. His K:BB rate is 16:2. Betting on volatile home run rates to regress may be a failure so far, but it’s not the worst place to look for under-valued assets.
  25. None of these guys should see the team in May, that would be a huge mistake. This team is not winning this year, you do not bring up prospects in May on a team that isn't built to win, it is just silly to do it. But yeah the pitching looked ugly going in and has been pretty bad so far. This shouldn't be a surprise. This is a playoff offense with a somewhat weak defense and awful pitching. You aren't fixing that this year, it is a problem you have to target next year and beyond. The Brewers should do what is best for development. Lopez has nothing left to prove at AA. The only thing more AA time would cause boredom leading to skill regression. Now between winter league and the WBC, he has pitched a lot of innings and putting him in the bullpen could allow his stuff to play up increasing his chances for initial success. But if you are suggesting the Brewers need to manipulate his service time, he isn’t even a top 10 prospect. They already control his rights to 2023. The Brewers need to focus on making him a successful MLB pitcher.
