  1. Super excited... Will be interesting to watch what the future holds for the Brewers and Red Sox regarding their decisions with MVP players.
  2. For everyone suggesting a post-season ban-why would MLB do that? Players would rest, attendance and viewership would fall, and the team would jettison any quality player they had in that window of time. It’s absolutely absurd and would hurt the MLB more than it would punish one team.
  3. I get the frustration. I’m not saying Burnes should be starting but I do know Suter shouldn’t have been starting. I’m no scout, but I have also never watched Suter pitch and say, “Wow, he has the stuff to be a major league starter.” The fact is, he’s not. He doesnt command his whiffle balls that well and can’t pitch through a lineup more than two times (if he can even get through that). I don’t know who the organization thinks is better than him but I can think of guys with way higher upside who cannot possibly be as bad. If we are seriously considering ourselves contenders, the Brent Suters/Chris Navesons/Braden Loopers of the world cannot be starting in this rotation.
  4. Like him or not, what he just did to the Red Birds feels really good!
  5. I get it. Closer/set-up guys have monstrous years and then fall off the map. I understand the worry. I hoped he would be a godsend from year one (after the trade). He was not. He had flashes. He was hyped! I became less enamored with him. He reminded me why closers are sucky. He just had a possible career year. But, heck, he was dominant. He was groomed for this role. I see he has four years left of team control and we’re wondering what he’s worth? Even if it’s three years, you have to be insane to trade him, especially part of a package.
  6. Do I expect Villar to be a perennial all-star? Absolutely not. I also don’t expect him to have a repeat of last year. Again, I like the idea of Walker but he could fall off the map at any point because of age. You hammer Villar for being a terrible base-runner and defender while glossing over the fact Walker offers zero on the basepaths and also is a below averge defender. Villar is also, already, very cheap. It’s not all roses with Villar but Walker isn’t exactly a knight in shining armor in comparison.
  7. Villar isn’t good defensively but if he’s capable of a line close to that average, he is more than adequate to man second base. People love to hate on his defense but seemingly forget the two gold glove quality players who manned the position in Milwaukee before him. If the bat is there, it will play. Regardless, I’d love Walker on a one or two year deal (his age scares me) but I have no idea what he’s looking for or what offers he may have.
  8. Aguilar has no trade value since he’s still an unproven part-time player. Even if some teams were interested they would be likely to just wait for him to be DFA. Also, with the surplus of outfielders we currently have, I don’t want to see Thames anywhere but first or DH.
  9. Nah... Blazek to Peralta gets me even more excited!
  10. I always minimized a LF's arm until Davis couldn't even be accurate with it. It became embarrassing watching him throw. It was like watching little league-just sending kids when the worst arm had the ball. I know he had an injury and his arm was apparently never the same. But, it always amazed me a guy with his power and stocky frame suffered from a shotgun arm. Reminded me of Kyle Orton-couldn't get it downfield and really had no idea where it was going. I always thought he got a decent jump and tracked the ball fairly well. Not a blazer by any means but he was adequate for his bat. I mean, if Lance Berkman can play right field...
  11. Gagne! Maybe he heard they finally got the dirt on the mound figured out.
  12. I disagree. Arcia had a longer throw and a faster runner. He got up and planted and generated that throw basically from all leverage and arm strength. You can't just shake off Escobar's though. It looks like his legs start slipping and fires that ball entirely by arm. It can bounce. It had plenty of heat on it. Both plays were great by great defensive players.
  13. Arrietta always had the stuff but he magically found pinpoint control. That shot him up from an older long shot into a Cy Young winner. Amazing how volitile MLB pitching is-starting or relief.
  14. Saw some other video of him and it looks like he uses more of a toe tap. Regardless, that kid is huge.
  15. I would assume him not being on any team is due to a combination of failing a physical, age, and poor defense.
  16. My jeez... Here was a "kid" who invigorated a large population and gave people laughs, enjoyment, and hope. Nobody knows what he may have been dealing with. There are still too many details to know-and we may never know. Either way, none of this makes him a bad person or the accident any less sad. It's a tragic mistake that proved costly. Every...single...day, my paper is littered with second, third, and fourth OWI arrests caused by people from 30-50 years old but nobody bats an eye. It's just assumed that this is the world we live in. I don't condone any of it but c'mon...
  17. If I can tell if a call is good or bad via the television broadcast and their replay before the next pitch, there isn't a reasonable excuse the current system takes so long. I'm on board with the time limit. There have to be ways to speed this up substantially.
  18. I liked Davis. That being said, we needed to make room for Santana. Santana lit up AAA and had nothing else to prove. I don't think we sold crazy low on Davis but I don't have a problem with the return since we had to make room for Domingo-a guy who isn't a center fielder and better fits the direction of this team. We got what we could for a player when the prospect behind him was ready. It wouldn't have made sense to have Carter and Santana in a platoon. You wouldn't get value for Davis and Santana would lose valuable playing time (lost due to injury but you can't foresee that). So for me, the timing of the trade has no effect on how I view the return.
  19. If I recall, Wren isn't on the 40 man whereas Reed is.
  20. Tomo Ohka gets my vote for best switch-hitter!
  21. I went to a game earlier in the year and sat next to cubs fans who drove up to watch the crew play the Reds. The lady told me they live about 15 miles from Wrigley and it is quicker for them to drive to Milwaukee than to Wrigley. Then she went on to gush about the atmosphere and the stadium. Was a surprisingly nice conversation we had. My cousins are "real" Cubs fans. I was lucky enough to miss that. That being said, the last game I went to (against the Astros), I was luckily sitting next to a Cubs fan. He was talking crap the whole game and I finally had enough and started asking about his team and his favorite player-Rizzo. [sarcasm]Good thing the Cubs drafted and developed him. He has never been traded.[/sarcasm] By the end of the evening he wanted to fight. At least his friend was sober.
  22. Actually Villar would probably be pretty similar. Strong arms, but make a handful of errors. Only difference would be Villar being a bit more agile than an early career Weeks. Villar's range is a plus over Weeks. Gloves might be a wash but Rickie would let so many balls trickle under or past his glove. Villar seems to at least be able to get in the way. I'm not necessarily saying its a huge upgrade but we got along just fine with a poor defensive second baseman for years. Weeks' offensive potential was higher but even if Villar regresses a little (hopefully not a lot), I think we'd still be sitting in an OK position.
  23. This team had Weeks slotted at second base for years and was deficient defensively. I would project Villar to be better than Weeks ever was at second.
