  1. Do we have any official word on Crow?
  2. Smith posted an OPS of .545 vs RHB last year, compared to a .785 vs LHB. 2014 was a polar opposite. I don't agree with him at all about Smith being a Wade Davis type but he's really hard to peg down with labels, being completely honest.
  3. Exactly. There are just as many hoops to jump through right now as there will be when he earns the 10&5 rights. Not the same hoops, mind you, but just as many regardless.
  4. Thornburg's fine. I just don't believe he has the same type of value that Smith and Jeffress do due to both Smith and Jeffress being high leverage relievers and Thornburg mainly holding down the middle innings to sometimes 8th inning spots. They all have the same amount of team control left so, and this is pure opinion (obviously), the deciding factor on value would be both Jeffress and Smith holding down high leverage spots. Thornburg has done it some this year but he doesn't have the track record Jeffress and Smith do. They all retain value but I think the price on Smith and Jeffress alone would end up being higher than Thornburg alone. That's why I'd rather throw Thornburg in with Luc than Smith/Jeffress. I just think Smith/Jeffress could bring us more on their own than Thornburg. Again, just my $0.02.
  5. I don't think you'd have to add Jeffress or Smith to that deal. If they were adamant about getting a reliever, give them Thornburg. No reason to add valuable pieces in Jeffress/Smith to a deal where you're not getting a franchise caliber player back. Sheffield, Clevinger and McKenzie is a deal alone that you ask for Lucroy. Adding in Mejia isn't really worth Smith/Jeffress to me. Just my $0.02.
  6. Yep. If Braun gets traded in 2016, it'll be at the Winter Meetings when contracts are off the books and teams have more financial room to play with.
  7. I would be tempted by it and probably wouldn't be able to say no but I, honestly, want quality over quantity in regards to Luc. I want a franchise caliber player in return for him and that's what I'd aim to get. That's the type of deal (above) that you take on August 1st at the last minute because nobody else would meet your top tier prospect demands IMO. Not bad at all but I still try to swing for the elite/borderline elite prospect first.
  8. I'm sorry but I just can't agree with this. At all. Forcing the rebuild is exactly how you become the meddling franchise we became after 2011. And targeting AAA and MLB players is simply not what you do in a rebuild. This isn't the NFL or NBA. Typically, players in A and AA ball can become Major Leaguers within 3 years. AAA is for the option types that you bring up when you have injuries. Guys that aren't good enough for the MLB but are at least capable of spot playing. You don't garner AAA assets because they're not assets at all. We're a small market team. You absolutely need to be patient. Win-now mode is what got the Bucks in trouble with fan interest because they were doing exactly what you just implied. You don't force this rebuild. Period.
  9. That's my fault. I hadn't read much of the thread before that. I saw that and immediately jumped the gun because I thought it was just a completely misguided stance. I mean, Corey Ray is hitting under .100 so far in A+ ball, a lower level than Rijo was at, but I highly doubt we're going to rush to judgement and call him a non-prospect like you implied with Rijo. Age needs to be taken into account when looking at these prospects. Wilkerson is a crafty 27 year old who is likely a AAAA player. He's far less the prospect than Rijo is. Probably for the same reason we left Monte Harrison in A ball for 46 games when he was so clearly overmatched.
  10. Ray Montgomery absolutely killed it. Love that man.
  11. He's got the arm but his range is what is lacking.
  12. SS will always have more value than 2B or 3B. SS's that can play 2B and 3B will have more value than a guy who only plays SS. And please enlighten me here but what SS is out there that can only play SS? : Your point is entirely redundant. :
  13. No problem, my friend. Great breakdown yourself and very useful. I see no reason why we can't get McClanahan, Clark and maybe even Louie Crow with that money.
  14. Top 11 picks (only picks that affect our bonus pool) 1.5 - Corey Ray - unsigned (slot: $4,382,200) 2.46 - Lucas Erceg - $1,150,000 (slot: $1,386,900) 2.75 - Mario Feliciano - $800,000 (slot: $851,900) 3.82 - Braden Webb - $700,000 (slot: $764,800) 4.111 - Corbin Burnes - $536,400 (slot: $536,400) 5.141 - Zack Brown - $401,700 (slot: $401,700) 6.171 - Payton Henry - $550,000 (slot: $300,800) 7.201 - Daniel Brown - $225,500 (slot: $225,500) 8.231 - Francisco Thomas - $200,000 (slot: $183,200) 9.261 - Trey York - $25,000 (slot: $171,100) 10.291 - Blake Fox - $10,000 (slot: $159,800) Total: $9,364,300 Committed: $4,598,600 Available: $4,765,700 So if Ray signs for slot or under, we'll have just under $400,000 plus the 5% threshold for McClanahan and Clark plus others if needed.
  15. SS will always have more value than 2B or 3B.
  16. They've been playing Arcia at 2B as another little ploy to try and build Villar's value. That's all. Orlando Arcia is the SS, not Villar. If we keep Villar at SS when Orlando comes up, it'll be the dumbest thing we've done since we trotted Marcum out for Game 6.
  17. Saved over $115,000 on two guys nobody actually thought were under slot types. Erceg was under slot too IIRC
  18. Penalties that involve being highly taxed and losing picks. If you save $1 Million on senior signs or under slot deals from 1-10, you have an additional $1 Million to spend above the $100,000 limit for picks from 11-40. Here are all the details about penalties... So I was wrong about the 4.9% thing kinda. You get taxed on it but you don't lose your next pick. Anything over 5% you start losing picks. That's from the link I posted above as well.
  19. Not true http://www.bleachernation.com/2016/06/09/2016-mlb-draft-primer-bonus-pool-slot-values-penalties-etc/ You only have a bonus pool for picks 1-10 and anything you save can be used for the later picks but if you go over your bonus pool, you get taxed.
  20. If you still have enough money from your bonus pool, you can give them whatever you want. Otherwise, you get taxed on anything over $100,000. There's also a cut off (think it's 4.9%) that you can go up to before you start to lose picks.
  21. Not even remotely true. Ben Cherington signed those guys, not Mike Hazen.
