  1. He's definitely a good catcher. He just can't stay healthy.
  2. Alderson has to play that game because of who his owners are. He's on a strict budget and has little wiggle room. Everything he does has to be approved by the Wilpons. He's using the NY Media to his advantage IMO.
  3. Absolutely. If anything, it's drastically effected the trade deadline. More teams believe they have a shot and, as shown by the KC Royals two years ago, any team can get hot once they get in. With this market, we need to have everyone available and we need to listen intently. If Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea are going for Josh Naylor and Luis Castillo, I don't even wanna begin to think about what Jimmy Nelson would go for.
  4. David Lucroy might get Kopech at this rate. It truly is nuts. I've never seen anything like it in my time following the sport. That 2nd WC spot has completely changed the game.
  5. Luc alone can get Devers and Kopech. Have you seen this market lately? It's insane.
  6. I'd imagine Szapucki would be the primary target in any reliever to NYM deal from Stearns.
  7. I know about the Cashner deal, what was the other one? I posted yesterday about the Indians haul, I think if its the Red Sox we could get Devers, Kopech and Sam Travis and maybe Trey Ball as a throw in. Adalberto Mejia maybe? I'm not sure though.
  8. No thanks on Naquin. His performance right now is extremely BABIP fueled and he's playing way over his head. Don't let a SSS fool ya here. He's not that valuable of a piece.
  9. Bauer is not very good, and anyways would not help us very much given his remaining years of team control. Pretty sure, he's 100% better than any current Brewer pitcher...and there's this thing called a contract extension. Pretty sure that's legal. You guys worry way too much about "team control" you can control a player as long as you want...if you resign him. Trevor Bauer isn't a "significant" piece at all. Davies and Guerra both have been just as good as him. I feel like you don't really understand how baseball works simply by the above response.
  10. I don't get the obsession with mediocre prospects like Clevinger and Allen...they should be secondary pieces in any Luc trade and guys you settle on as 4th or 5th pieces after shooting the moon. They shouldn't be the 2nd prospect in any Luc deal. I don't get the desire to willingly include them over the likes of McKenzie/Hillman/Mejia/Diaz/Sheffield.
  11. Absolutely agree and it's only going to get better.
  12. The tools are there with Medeiros. He's another one that was always going to be a long term project. As I said in my above post, not everyone is on the same timeline. Kodi's flashed some excellent stuff and is a toolshed. He'll be fine. Worse comes to worst, he's a damn fine back end reliever due to having 2 + pitches.
  13. It's not where we thought it would be other than Hader. There are some nice players but there is no Braun and Fielder. The last 3 first round draft picks all look pretty bad. No, the system is not fine. I'm assuming this trade deadline will being back some real difference makers like other teams are doing. Of course there are no Brauns or Fielders. We haven't picked top 5 in a very long time due to the run on mediocrity outside of 2008 and 2011. However, y'all here just loved Bruce Seid but, truth being told, he left this system in shambles and wasn't all that great at growing with the game. The system is in WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better shape than it was at the end of 2014 when Seid passed. Do you just magically expect our system to get better overnight? Some of you guys have a hard time with patience here from what I've read and aren't exactly in touch with how baseball truly works. LIS, the system is fine. Y'all just want things that are flat out unrealistic. Just because we don't have an elite talent just chilling in the system doesn't mean it's "not fine." There's depth for days and a ton of intriguing talent in our system. You know which guys are struggling the most? The guys that Seid drafted/signed. Ray Montgomery has been really good at his approach to drafting and deserves a little more faith from the keyboard warriors who think they know better. I really didn't like Corey Ray and I've said as much here but I'm more than willing to give Monty the benefit of the doubt. I mean, some of you guys are REALLY harping on Gilbert Lara, an 18 year old, not developing how you'd hoped? Dudes, HE'S 18 YEARS OLD. The way you guys talk about him (some of you), you'd think he was a lost cause because he's not matching your absurd expectations. I mean, we also have people talking definitively about Trent Clark, a 19 year old, as if he's some bust already. Some of you folks put ENTIRELY too much stock in batting average. Learn about peripherals and build from there. After all, this is an analytically based front office now. Brett Phillips has had a bad month but his peripherals outside of his K rate are still solid. I mean, perhaps it's an organizational issue because it's not like the kid just magically can't hit the ball. His K rate with the Brewers is above 30% but with the Astros was never this much of a problem. Is there something the staff changed that they shouldn't have? Perhaps they are asking him to work counts? His walk rate has remained in a good to great range while he's striking out which tells me it's a staff approach with him. I'd love to see his contact rates but unfortunately those things aren't readily available for MiLB players. However, from the multiple higher strikeout rates from the AA guys, it also tells me that it has something to do with plate approach. Orlando Arcia's value was ALWAYS going to come from his defense, folks. Anybody who thought otherwise was just out of touch. Anything he contributes offensively is a bonus. SS is one of the few positions in baseball where defense matters most. It's the reason why, at some point, Carlos Correa will be moved off of the position. Cody Ponce has one bad start after a bunch of gems and people lose their minds right away as if these guys are supposed to be infallible machines. I just don't get the "woe is me" approach here. If you expect everyone to develop on the same timeline and have a few develop into superstars practically overnight, well, you're in for a reality check. There have been so many injuries in the system this year that it's going to cause delays in development. That's just the nature of the sport. Our system is fine, it's your expectations that aren't.
  14. Yep. You also have to preach incredible patience with prospects. Not everyone is an Alex Bregman who climbs the ladder quickly. There is no sure fire approach with every single prospect. These kids are prone to slump, learning experiences and adjustments. They are all far from finished products. Things happen and you have to be patient.
  15. Can I ask why you prefer the lower ceiling players in these two spots? Kaminsky is likely a BOR starter and Clevinger is most likely a MOR type guy while Aiken has ace potential, Bradley has middle of the order power bat potential and Hillman is a "get him before he blows up" type prospect. We have more than enough Kaminsky and Clevinger types in this system already. Honestly, I don't see any major difference is between Zach Davies and those two and we got Davies for 3 months of Gerardo Parra, not 1.5 years of Jonathan Lucroy. I mean, Kaminsky got traded straight up for Brandon Moss just last year.
  16. Nah. They also signed Beltre thru 2018. Gallo isn't the guy. Think Mark Reynolds or Russel Branyon, not Dunn. He's a better trade for Smith than Luc. Methinks you don't have a very good feel on Gallo. He's not blocked next season because he'll be able to slot into LF pretty easily even if they place options at 1B/DH. The Rangers aren't going to keep trotting out Ryan Rua in LF. You also keep mentioning Branyan and Reynolds yet Gallo can do something they can't and that's play defense. Those guys were able to put up 2 and 3 win seasons while being defensive sieves. Gallo put up a 0.6 fWAR in 36 games because of his defense in left field. Gallo is fine.
  17. I honestly hope we give Wren his shot soon. I'm not sure what else he needs to do when we're trotting out other teams rejects left and right in CF. I cringe when I see Jake Elmore starting.
  18. Joey Gallo routinely has an OBP around 100 points higher than his batting averages and is known as a 3 true outcome type (HR, BB or K) so I wouldn't say he's not an OBP guy.
  19. JP Breen still thinks the Rangers are the front runners but I would much rather have a Cleveland depth package than a Texas one if both teams aren't sending any of their best prospects (Brinson, Gallo, Zimmer, Frazier, Bradley, Aiken).
  20. Dodger have no reason to chase a mid rotation type, being completely honest. They already have a plethora of them.
  21. Absolutely love the information. Thank you, my friend.
  22. Mothers should be considered good sources, but it'd be nice to hear something from the team. Yeah, you would think so. Situation is kinda weird as we haven't heard anything else concrete from either side.
  23. Just an FYI, there's no real information out there that we signed Brennan Price. Just that tweet from his mom but the Brewers have never confirmed it so we're sitting at 37 of the 41 signed.
