2018 Standings and Playoff Race Discussion
MadThinker88 replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
FYI - Rally Together has been a slogan in Cleveland for multiple years. I am also noticing that each team has a home version like Defend ..... and an alternate version (Boston = Do Damage) Saw many "Defend Tribe Town" shirts etc with the clinch celebration... Also saw a Defend Fenway during the Boston clinch celebration. -
I don't think a AAA game at Miller Park would draw that many people (10-15k). Think it would be more likely to draw 6-8K. That said, how does a small crowd look in Miller Park vs a place designed for smaller crowds? Additionally, what would concessions & parking be like? Do all the normal workers come out to deal with a game that is bringing in MAYBE 50% of a normal crowd?? I could see the AAA team coming in for an exhibition vs the parent club OR relocating for some games that must get played when its own facility can't meet the need (weather or other facility issue) but that is it.

Couple that with a decent chunk of the AA team that gets bumped to a non-launching pad AAA team. I think AAA is going to be crazy loaded with top organizational prospects next year. It was my understanding that in comparing ballpark to ballpark, each PCL park was a launching pad when compared to the IL parks. It was just a matter of degrees of how much of launching pad each place was. Unless there is a drastic move, all the AAA affiliate openings for 2019 are in the PCL so the Brewers are still dealing with some sort of launching pad..

Free Agent Starting Pitchers for 2019
MadThinker88 replied to Eye Black's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Danny Salazar might be a late addition to the list. He hasn't pitched all year & he had shoulder surgery during 2018. It is unknown if he will fully recover or even be a starter if he makes it all the way back. The Tribe has to decide to offer a contract tender (& likely go to arbitration with him for the 3rd of 4 trips with him) or cut its losses and use that money elsewhere. His salary during this injured 2018 campaign was $5MM. I doubt he ends up with a paycut thru arbitration.. -
It was my understanding that the PDC had to be in 2 year groups (either 2-4-6-8 etc). I learned last week (as Cleveland & Lake County in low A Midwest league announced their extension) that the agreed to PDC can't go beyond the current CBA along with being a 2 year cycle. I guess that is a newer wrinkle.

2018-19 Offseason Trade Candidates
MadThinker88 replied to pacopete4's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I completely agree with 1st part written by FVBrewerFan. As much as I understand why the Brewers (& their fans) want to improve their team, I am baffled why anyone would think Aguilar would be a fit in Cleveland. Cleveland already has Yonder Alonso AND Edwin Encarnacion UNDER CONTRACT for 2019 and holds club contract options on both players for 2020. On top of that they have another 1B prospect (in their system) almost ready for the majors & other options. IF Cleveland traded EE or Alonso for other pieces of need, it would be to open space for Yandy Diaz or the prospect (Bobby Bradley).. On a different note: Jesus is not worth any top 100 prospect by himself, let alone a top 50 pitching prospect like Triston. Lets turn this around, let's say some other team had Jesus Aguilar and wanted to trade Jesus to Milwaukee for either Burnes or F Peralta (both were top 100 pitching prospects at mid season), would the Brewers or their fans make that deal?? I don't believe they would.. -

Allow me to pick up my jaw..... No way.. No how... Triston McKenzie is not being dealt, yet alone for Jesus Aguilar. In terms of pipe dreams, that one for one deal is a pipe dream's pipe dream. -

As part of the end of season updates, I will show not only all 30 teams by full season affiliate, but also all 30 teams by percentage with ALL affiliates (short-season/ rookie & foreign listings included).. -

OMG.. I'm watching the Facebook game (Minn at Clev). Oliver Drake just came into pitch for Minnesota & it was announced that Drake (after appearing for his 5th MLB team this year) had the ball that finished his prior Minnesota appearance set to Cooperstown. 5 teams in a single season is a new record... This yr its been Milwaukee, Cleveland, LA Angels, Toronto & now Minnesota Think I might puke...

At least the schedule makers have the Twins hosting a divisional opponent (Cleveland) in those March games. It makes it easier for make up games. After the set at Target field, Cleveland goes home to host the Chiox for 2 (over 3 days) before opening a 4 game set with Toronto... Cleveland travels to Toronto in July. BTW - Cleveland plays 2 of its inter-league series in September. Last home weekend (3rd week of Sept) vs Philly. Final weekend of the season on the road at Washington. Thank god for expanded rosters. More hitters on the bench available to replace pitcher when the time comes. One real crazy aspect of the Tribe schedule - they play on the road at KC on July 4th (a night game). They then have an OFF DAY on Friday 7/5 as they travel to play a 2 game set (Saturday & Sunday) at Cinci. That leafds right into the All-Star break that is in Cleveland in 2019. I get being on the road leading up to the Break (other activities (like the Futures game on Sunday 7/7) & getting place ready for Al vs NL), that part makes sense. Having a scheduled off day on the Friday/ day after July 4 holiday - that has me shaking my head...

I'm not trying to suggest that Baseball America is gospel. I only knew they had released a mid-season update (like Bleacher Report). Thanks to And That for communicating the BA updated ranking of 22. I really like the work done by John Sickels. I don't feel he gets enough credit.. Personally I like to gather all the sources and average the results. I have been doing that for the past 4 or 5 off seasons. Before the start of the 2018 season, the 11 sources I found had the Brewers at 14th overall w/ an average ranking of 14.273. Unfortunately some of those rankings were before the Yelich trade and some were after. The highest ranking given was by the Minor League Analyst Book (#7, before the deal) and the lowest was by Prospect Digest book (#22, released after the deal). Time will tell where the Brewers end up after all the 2018-19 off season sources announce their thoughts...
-
It will be an interesting offseason as the various sources release their farm rankings. Bleacher Report had the Brewers at 19 post trade deadline. As players (like Freddy P) graduate from the system that ranking will be impacted. Did anyone see where BA ranked the Brewer system last week?? I don't have insider access so I am unaware of their full update..

Fresno has direct non-stop flights to Chicago, Dallas/Ft Worth, Denver, LA & Las Vegas. Getting to any 1 of those should then provide a direct flight to join the team within the USA. If the club is so concerned about connecting flights, I am sure there is a charter service somewhere in California that would pick up a player (or players) in Fresno & bring them to meet the team.

The Game Notes are posted on the Brewer website before every game. Just a matter of when it is posted. Today they were up @ 4 pm Central time (for a 7:10 first pitch). Yesterday it happened some point after 5 pm Central time (for a 7:10 first pitch)... We need someone with MOD authority to start copying the link into the thread opener moving forward so it is easier to locate during the course of the game/ discussion...
