The race for the basement is on! Next update - Sunday 6/23/19
  2. I find that offering to be unlikely. I think there are 2 possible models to be followed. One is the Andrew Miller deal of 2016 as a guide/ model. The amount of control remaining, the reasonableness of the money for those contract years, the performance this season by Hand to the year Miller was having at that point in 2016 is all very similar. It could be argued that Hand is performing better this year than Miller was pre-trade in 2016. That model would suggest TWO top 100 prospects (1 in top 50) plus two other pieces. The other model is the Hand deal of 2018. In that case Hand (& another bullpen arm) were dealt for a top 15 prospect in all of baseball (F. Mejia). Ultimately it takes 2 teams to agree. If the offer Briggs made is the best out there for the Tribe, they have to decide to accept it or hold onto Hand for the rest of the season & then determine options in the off-season (keep him or deal him).
  3. How long was the Nelson rehab?? I do not recall the number of days it was for Nelson, but pitchers only get a 30 day rehab assignment (in order to prevent teams from stashing otherwise healthy players in the minors all season)..
  4. Best Guess is Cody Allen will clear waivers & then decline any offer of a minor league assignment with the Angels. IMHO I think Cody is headed to Minnesota where he happens to have a working history with Derek Falvey.. For those unaware, while Falvey was part of the executive team in Cleveland, he was instrumental in putting together the advanced info (scouting, strengths & weaknesses of opposition batters) for the pitchers. He did that thru the 2016 world series. After the Series, Derek left & took the job with the Twins.. Now due to Cody's amount of service time (IF I understand the pay rules correctly) the Twins/ any team signing Cody this season would only have to pay Cody a pro-rated amount of the veteran minimum. Cody would still collect the rest of his contract money from the Angels (minus the amount being paid by the Twins/ another signing team). Sounds like a win-win & a savey move if it happens & works out for the Twins... Improve the bullpen at limited money cost, hold onto the various trade assets for other needs.. If Allen does not improve, the Twins still have time & assets to make another move to improve the pen
  5. Which was part of the reason I suggested O Perez. He is under a reasonable contract this year and has a vesting option for next year (2.75M for 55 games played or 3M for 60 games played).. So far he has 29 games thru 6/14/19..
  6. Another possibility is Oliver Perez. He is having a very good season in the Cleveland bullpen..
  7. Mancini is a good target. Problem is he will cost more than people realize. Baltimore has many needs and Mancini is their best trade chip. That said they have to be overwhelmed to deal him now. Having 3 years of control after this season, there is ZERO reason for the Orioles to deal Mancini now UNLESS the get a King's Ransom PLUS. One other aspect to consider. Yes there have been deals between the Brewers & Orioles over the past few years (generally that is a good thing). How have those deals worked out for the O's?? IMHO those deals have not gone well for the O's so they will likely be weary of making another deal with the Brewers unless they get a VERY GOOD DEAL in their point of view...
  8. I think Homer was joking about Clevinger (which he did not blue). When I responded to him, I put those parts in blue & bold. That said, if your seriously going after Lindor, Yes it would cost Hiura PLUS..
  9. HA. Now that is a funny joke. The cost for Clevinger would be even higher. If you are going for pie in the sky ideas, why not try for Lindor? [sarcasm]It would only cost Yelich, Hader, Hiura & Turang[/sarcasm]... In other words its not happening...
  10. Since I have been asked to chime in... Forget Kluber for a couple reasons: 1) He is unlikely to be back in the majors BEFORE trade deadline of 7/31. Even if Kluber's medical follow up this week determines a timetable for a comeback, he likely needs a full rehab assignment of 30 days to get stretched out. As Yogi Berra once said, its getting late early (for that 7/31 trade deadline). 2) Even IF SOMEHOW Kluber is back and pitching at a high level, ANY team trading Kluber has to decide on both option years (pick up both or decline both, not pick up one & decline the other) within a week of the WS ending in 2019.. Kluber's injury makes that decision near impossible for any acquiring team.. As for Bauer, I don't see a good match between the 2 clubs. Cleveland is not going into a full rebuild so multiple low level high end talents won't be the target. Cleveland will be targeting multiple major league ready talents that have a lot of control remaining (the same stuff the Brewers want to hold onto). Most fans here feel Hiura is off limits. I can't disagree with the feelings. That said Hiura fills a need for Cleveland as Kipnis will have his 2020 option declined. It takes 2 teams to make a deal. IF Cleveland is MOTIVATED to deal Bauer before the 7/31 deadline I believe they will make a large deal with a club willing to meet Cleveland's price, not "settling" for a secondary package. PS: I realize Brewer fans are very excited by Brice Turang (they should be), but I think Brewer fans should take a look at Tyler Freeman (Cleveland's SS prospect in the Midwest League). Both are VERY GOOD and are among the top 100 prospects in the game.. I still SMH seeing Freeman's stats from short-season in 2018 in the NY-Penn league.
  11. Late 6/9/19 Update - Since Boston is so far under .500, I did a little digging and compared it to when teams fell for the 1st time 50 games under .500 over the last few years. This is what I found: 2019: Boston at -54 with report on 6/8/19 2018: Boston & ChiCubs at -51 with report on 8/4/18. 2017: San Fran at -55 with report on 6/3/17 2016: KC Royals at -54 with report on 6/17/17

  14. At least the outage happened after the draft concluded... Never really a good time for a blackout but some times are worse than others (trade deadlines, draft, season opening, playoff time)....
  15. WHIFF (by me, watched the meatball go right by me over the plate and I left the bat on the shoulder)... Guy was LITERALLY playing down the street from me. I got nothing to add.
  16. A little surprised the Brewers drafted 3 catchers in the 1st 10 rounds (2 college, 1 HS). That said, perhaps the Crew senses an area where they could deepen their system and perhaps have talent to deal later for other needs. Finding and exploiting market inefficiencies is critical aspect to becoming and remaining competitive...
  17. 2 lefty pitchers to start this years draft... Interesting
  18. I saw a handful of mock drafts having him go in the 2nd round... I believe he could have been a reach/ safe pick to ensure signing at under-slot as part of a larger draft strategy...
  19. Very possible.. Lets see how they approach the upcoming selections. If they keep taking safer picks it will be disappointing. If they instead try to utilize their savings from this selection on their next few picks then they might be able to add some real good talent..
  20. Jeff Ellis had his final mock (rounds 1 & 2) out just before the start of the draft. This is free content. https://247sports.com/mlb/scouting/Article/Final-MLB-Mock-Draft-Two-Rounds-132564328/ He was correct on the 1st 6 picks... Projected to the Crew: 28 Milwaukee Brooks Lee, SS, San Luis Obispo (CA) 65 Milwaukee Brewers Ryne Nelson, RHP, Oregon

  22. Well we found the 2nd Catcher - Eduin Lugo served as catcher in this game...
  23. Spotted this link and listing for the shared squad over on a Tribe message board. DSL Indians/Brewers 2019 roster http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?cid=617&sid=milb Went thru all the links and it appears of the 32 players listed, 20 are from the Brewers. Pitching staff is evenly split from the organizations (8-8) & the Tribe has added 4 infielders (Baez, Gomez, Meza & Sanquintin). I'm surprised by the addition of Sanquintin to the squad as he had some buzz on the Tribe boards & prospect reporting earlier this year (#26 according to BA).
