  1. If not a run at JD, they might also be making a run at Moose to take over 3rd. Only drawback with that plan is JD does not have QO signing penalties (like Moose)..
  2. I was expecting Carlos to get above $18M AAV per season so the money is no surprise to me. Happy for him he was able to get 3 yrs plus option yr (17.5M). As a Tribe fan first, I just knew the moment Edwin E signed, Carlos was gone at the end of the deal. Only place I didn't know was the landing spot. I had figured he was going to Seattle but the Mariners went other directions this off season. Santana's D at 1st is much improved over the past year plus (in some places ranking ahead of Hosmer). His track record for drawing walks keeps his OBP high despite a BA between .225 and .250. He is a notorious slow starter with his 2nd half consistently above his 1st half numbers. It will be curious to see how Philly fans react to a 'down' 1st half from him in 2018.
  3. Baltimore has made it clear in reports that they are not giving ANY TEAM a negotiation window with Manny to get an extension done pre-trade. That said, the team trading for him would have the 2018 season to get a deal done or deal him at the deadline OR issue the Qualifying Offer after the season. Manny is in the top 10 players of all of baseball. The debate is how high on that list. At this time, no Brewers are close to that list. The Baltimore GM despises the word "rebuild". He is looking to reload & contend on the fly. So he is looking for MLB & near MLB talent, especially pitching. Brinson makes sense because Adam Jones is a Free Agent after the 2018 season but Baltimore might take a lesser CF talent (Phillips or someone else) instead if it gets them the other necessary pitching talent. The cost is steep (especially as some other clubs with deep farm systems are trying to get Machado (ChiSox, Philly, NYYankees)), but I think it would be more like: Arcia/ Hader/ F. Peralta/ Phillips (Baltimore preference) or Ray (Milwaukee preference) for Machado alone.
  4. I think he is/was with the Halos now though isn't he? Correct. Taken from Anaheim..
  5. Early reports its a 2 year deal in the $12 to $14 Million range (assuming that is total value & not per year)..
  6. It appears the MLB portion is over. Brewers did not select anyone. Brewers did not lose anyone (Note: 2 guys at pick #17 & #20 don't have former team listed but neither name seems familiar)...
  7. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/angels-to-acquire-ian-kinsler.html Another of the 2nd baseman has been moved..
  8. Aria moves to second before Manny does. Machado has been filling in at SS for the past few seasons in Baltimore with Hardy getting hurt. Machado is the better SS (of he/ Hardy/ Arcia) and if playing SS full time, he is easily in top 5 of all baseball (if not higher). Glove/ Bat/ Range. Machado has it all.
  9. There are some rumblings that Houston is landing Joe Smith... Joe DeMayo‏ @PSLToFlushing Hearing Joe Smith is taking a physical with the #Astros and is slated to sign a 2 year deal with the team
  10. Agreed. I really feel the Brewers overachieved in 2017 so perhaps this is for the best. Let the Cardinals/ Cubs bang heads for a few years as the Crew takes a small step backward in 2018, then starts moving forward again. Except in 2019/ 2020, more of the talent in the minors has gotten to the majors & other questions have been answered so the Crew has a better chance at success/ the post-season.
  11. How about this: Considering all the contracts being given in the Relief Market (Swarzak, Shaw, etc), can we agree that the idea of signing Knebel to a 4 yr 18 Million extension is a pipe dream with basically no chance of happening (as he would refuse that extension)?? These contracts make me feel vindicated/ correct from my debate/ argument with clancyphile as the off-season began.
  12. I agree its a lot of money but the relief market/ costs for relievers has been shifting a lot over the past 2 plus years. The contract he signed does not surprise me.
  13. looks to be 2 yrs at a total of $14 Million https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/mets-agree-to-terms-with-anthony-swarzak.html Thanks for all you did Anthony. Best of Luck moving forward..
  14. Breakout: Trey Supak (I suspect he will begin the season in Carolina but end the season in Colorado Springs or Milwaukee).. Bounce Back: Isan Diaz (I feel he has better rebound potential then some others). Really wish I could write Jorge Lopez here, but I need to be realistic. Bust: Ray (if he is still on any top 100 lists going into 2018, he will be removed from them by the mid-season updates). Sleeper: Carlos Herrera. (Agree with previous comment about Lind trade becoming a godsend in retrospect.)
  15. Yes, it is too much to hope for unless you are willing to deal 1 or more of the top pieces (ie from the top 5 prospects in the system). If the Brewers insist on holding onto ALL their very top prospects, Tampa will trade Archer to another club (if they deal him at all).
  16. So a top 100 pitcher (possible top 50 when the updates are done after his performance in the AFL) in Sheffield PLUS two others. Not a chance. Yanks say no at Sheffield alone.
  17. I'm not trying to say Santana for him but I'm a little surprised Joe Panik has not been mentioned. He is in his arbitration years so salary is not too high. Mainly has hit 2nd in the order but has played a little at leadoff. Solid average and OBP hitter along with solid D at 2nd base. Hits above his average at Miller Park (could it be the park or the pitchers he is facing, probably a little of both). Again, not suggesting a 1 for 1 deal of D Santana for Joe Panik but Panik might be the beginning of a solid trade package.
  18. Its not like the Rockies didn't give CS a try. I think the Rockies spent nearly 20 years in CS (which is a higher altitude than Coors). On top of that its not like they went somewhere at sea level. Albuquerque (their new AAA affiliate after CS), at an elevation of 5,312 feet, is more comparable to Coors Field's roughly 5,280 feet.
  19. I don't think it will be enough for Tampa. I might be mistaken but I do not believe it would be enough & Aguilar would bring very little to trade package. Even if Tampa has good reports & interest in the Brewers package, they could likely get even more from another team if the put Archer up on the market. Just consider the teams with farm systems on par (or better) than Milwaukee. What sort of package could Atlanta, NY Yankees, Philly, Houston, Pittsburgh, LA Dodgers, even the Chicago White Sox put together? I would believe at least a couple of those teams would offer a better package of prospects & high-end prospects.
  20. Exactly. This is why I said DS should do something (deal for prospect or sign 1/more of the freed Braves prospects). Otherwise the resource (which cannot be carried over or reassigned to signing a major league free agent/ signing a player to an extension) would be lost/ wasted.
  21. Gordon has 3 years plus an option/ buyout remaining. I would think that is the perfect length. Enough time for the players you mention to develop, not be rushed & have a small cushion in case of struggles/ injuries.. Neither prospect is ready for the majors 2018 and highly unlikely to be ready for the majors at the beginning of 2019. If guys are ready come 2020, deal with the situation then.
  22. Not sure, but the Mariners have to be close to maxed out for their International pool money. Not sure what you mean by Seattle being maxxed out. Don't think there is a limit to the amount a team could acquire. Just that it is acquired BEFORE the team signs someone with the money. Seattle would be getting 2017-18 pool money from the Brewers in this scenario..
  23. saw a comment on MLBTR & thought I should share here.. "Flip him (Dee Gordon) to Milwaukee for more international bonus money and Corey Ray + lottery ticket prospect." Not a bad little move if Dipoto & DS decide to do that...
  24. After the Marlins deal of Dee Gordon & money to Seattle, DS had better make some sort of deal (either signing a former Braves prospect or trade of pool money)
  25. One of the early trade package rumors had SF sending Panik & a couple prospects. Panik does not make much $$ as he is still in the arbitration process, but moving him would free up more space for absorbing the Stanton contract and possibly reduce the amount of money the Marlins would need to send.
