  1. No Deal. Cost wouldn't make sense for the Brewers rebuild process. Salazar has never gone a full season in the majors without some DL or injury time. He has never crossed the 200 IP threshold. Last year was not overwork. After being lights out in the 1st half and got named to the All Star team. He was hurt throughout the 2nd half & went down (seemingly for good in September). He worked himself back to be part of the bullpen in the World Series (logging 2 appearances). Many Tribe fans have speculated that a move to the pen might be for the best for Salazar (name when he is on/ Salad Bar went he doesn't have it). I think the Tribe mgmt hopes that time in the pen will get Danny righted (like it did with Carassco a few years ago) but the pen move might be best for all involved in the long run. Shorter stints might make his stuff even more potent (the traditional up tick in velocity, etc) since he wouldn't have to pace himself for multiple trips thru the batting order. Also, Andrew Miller & Cody Allen are both Free Agents after the 2018 season. I highly doubt either gets resigned as market value would be @ $15MM per season (for each guy). Can't envision Cleveland having the finances to pay that. So an effective Salazar (in the pen) might move from general pen work this, to setup next season (Bryan Shaw a free agent after 2017) and a closing role the year after that. BTW - Danny is a free agent come 2021..
  2. Don't know if many people here are regular listeners to the Baseball Tonight podcast but I listen as I have a lot of car/ windshield time each day. Over the past week Buster Olney on a couple occasions noted: 1) that Braun only wants to play in LA if moved from Milwaukee 2) other GMs around the leauge see a few huge issues with Braun - inability to remain healthy, the size of his deal (for a player not remaining on the field) & the PED history 3) he does not see Braun getting moved at all

  5. Assuming Garza continues to perform, DS should be able to get "some value back". Some Value Back is the key phrase. For me part of the value back is opportunity for others in the organization (ie Hader or Lopez) getting playing time in the majors & finishing off their development. It is looking like there will be many more SP on the trade market than anticipated in February so the return to the Brewers will likely be lesser than many want. I think it is key for DS to realize that it will be better to get something (whether a mid level prospect or even a handful lower level prospect lottery tickets) than not making a deal and possibly losing the development opportunity for Hader/ Lopez.
  6. This is still a rebuilding year & the process should not be rushed. It is great and exciting that team is currently doing well (personally I'm happy for the club & its fans) but rebuilding & development still needs to be done, with focus on the pitching staff (rotation & bullpen). Assuming this process is not rushed for short-sighted chases in 2017 & 2018, the outlook for 2019 & beyond is looking very bright...

  8. Hello everyone. I tried keeping a thread updated last season with this info & will try again this year. Again, I will only report on FULL SEASON minor league teams (Low A thru AAA). That way there is a consistent measurement of 4 affiliates for each organization. While winning is secondary to developing players in the minors, winning is important in its own right as it develops a culture of success and hopefully, post-season appearances in the minors (which results in more learning opportunities & development of the players). For this report I will list all 30 teams. In the future I will narrow the reporting (top 10, bottom 5, noting teams of the division if not already listed) Here is the 1st report (with games ending 5/6/17). # Teams W L Pct 1 Boston Red Sox 66 40 0.6226 2 Arizona Diamondbacks 70 44 0.6140 3 Philadelphia Phillies 65 47 0.5804 4 Chicago Cubs 65 49 0.5702 5 Tampa Bay Rays 60 51 0.5405 6 Cincinnati Reds 62 53 0.5391 7 Detroit Tigers 59 51 0.5364 8 Houston Astros 62 54 0.5345 9 Atlanta Braves 61 54 0.5304 10 Minnesota Twins 58 52 0.5273 11 St. Louis Cardinals 59 53 0.5268 12 Toronto Blue Jays 57 53 0.5182 13 Oakland Athletics 58 54 0.5179 14 New York Yankees 58 55 0.5133 15 Pittsburgh Pirates 56 54 0.5091 16 Milwaukee Brewers 55 54 0.5046 17 Seattle Mariners 57 56 0.5044 18 Washington Nationals 53 55 0.4907 19 Baltimore Orioles 56 60 0.4828 20 New York Mets 55 59 0.4825 21 Los Angeles Dodgers 54 61 0.4696 22 San Diego Padres 53 65 0.4492 23 Cleveland Indians 48 59 0.4486 24 Kansas City Royals 51 63 0.4474 25 LA Angels of Anaheim 51 63 0.4474 26 Miami Marlins 51 65 0.4397 27 Colorado Rockies 50 64 0.4386 28 Chicago White Sox 48 66 0.4211 29 Texas Rangers 49 68 0.4188 30 San Francisco Giants 45 70 0.3913
  9. Great point. Objectively Scooter was easily in the bottom 3rd of baseball, perhaps in the bottom 25% or 20%.
  10. Too early to make that assumption. I like Diaz as a prospect but he still has a ways to go. Even if Diaz does continue to perform, its possible that Arcia gets the boot IF he doesn't start to hit AND Villar continues to perform.
  11. Guess we know what the answer to his trade value is now... Zero! He is gone via waivers... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/03/reds-claim-scooter-gennett.html
  12. Texas & Cleveland have played a couple split-squad games (Friday night & today) in San Antonio. The Alamo Dome was converted for the games & it appears there are very good crowds, even with NCAA tourney games this weekend. Dimensions are strange and there are some ground rules like in Tampa (ball of the scoreboard is live) but its interesting to watch and experience. One Tribe announcer likened it to the old Exhibition Stadium setup in Toronto before SkyDome was built.. Just thinking out of the box here: perhaps a club could play there for 1 season while a true baseball park is being built. If others could see parts of these games and comment, I would be interested in reading their thoughts...
  13. No chance. First off, the Tribe has many internal options/ prospects to shift thru. Also Jose Ramirez is a natural 2B. That was his position coming thru the minors. IF Kipnis is going to be out all season, I suspect JRam moves back to second and 3B becomes a mix of many (Giovanny Urshela/ Erik Gonzalez/ Yandy Diaz/ others).
  14. It is this "weakness" in the farm system that still needs to be addressed in the rebuild. While the overall farm system is greatly improved, it is top-heavy. Once the club starts having success on the major league level, the drafts will be impacted by lower picks and less of a signing bonus pool. Now is the time where DS and company can keep rebuilding, lay a solid foundation and more importantly, start getting the talent to help the big league coming in waves.
  15. One major difference: As part of the settlement for the move to go forward, Art Modell had to leave behind the team name, color and all records. The Browns basically were in hibernation for 3 season and returned with a massive thud ever since 1999.
  16. Does anyone here have a subscription to Baseball Prospectus?? They posted their organization rankings but only the bottom 4 clubs are for free (KC 27, Ariz 28, LAA 29, and Miami 30). Obviously I am curious about the rest (1 thru 26) but Milwaukee, Cinci & Cleveland in particular. Anything someone else could post would be appreciated.
  17. Let's put it this way.... On , I take option <_ _> Monday #2 Tuesday #2 Weds. #2 Thursday #2 Friday #2 Sat. #2 Sunday, I consider #3 and take #2 in the morning and again #2 in the afternoon. STAY THE COURSE. Complete the rebuild. There are no shortcuts!
  18. Or he could just play baseball all summer and get paid about half a million dollars to do it. Beats selling insurance. But he won't get half a million playing in AAA. He would be on a split contract, MLB minimum if in the majors, something like $15K or $20K (if lucky) playing in Colorado Springs... That is very common for players (pitchers and position guys alike)..
  19. I would not be surprised if Jorge Lopez broke camp with the Brewers as a member of the bullpen...
  20. Also a possible spot to send off Garza. Let me put it this way: I'd rather trade Garza for something of value to help with the Brewer rebuild (even if in the division), then not deal Garza at all & suffer thru a year of poor performance (a la a repeat of 2015)...
  21. Ok, here are my 2 cents Brewers Record: 69-93 Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Travis Shaw (Kent State product (go Flashes!) erupts as this seasons Villar) Brewers CY Young: Jorge Lopez (in a bullpen role) Brewers ROY: Jorge Lopez (in a bullpen role) First player traded: Garza (Spring Training injury happens in another camp & Brewers are able to quickly strike a deal). Note: Braun does not get dealt. DS asking for too much & unwilling to pay more than $20 MM of remaining contract. Once full trade kicks it, its over). Surprise player: Thames (transitions over much better then many hoped, produces solid but not eye-popping numbers) Disappointing player: O. Arcia (more like Lindor- Lite Lite, ok D, BA in the .240 neighborhood) World Series: '16 Rematch this time Tribe over Cubs
  22. For Comparison: the listing for Cleveland by Sickels.. In bold are the 3 main prospects that were part of the voided Lucroy deal... 19. Mejia, C - B+/A- 32. Zimmer, OF - B+ 43. McKenzie, RHP - B+ 65. Bradley, 1B - B+ 76. Aiken, LHP - B/B+ 129. Kaminsky, LHP - B 131. Allen, OF - B 146. Hillman, LHP - B/B- 184. Chang, SS - B- 198. Jones, 3B - B-
  23. Yes, it is a good one. Bookmarked it last season. Real nice for following your favorite organization or scouting out another team's farm system when possible trades are afoot...
  24. Well, its not happening at this point.. Angels have taken the flyer via trade.. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/indians-trade-austin-adams-angels-deolis-guerra-dfa.html
