  1. Nice try at this. Its never easy doing it from scratch and trying to do all the organizational levels. Unless I missed the designation on the sheet, one suggestion regarding the starting pitchers: you might want to designate guys that would slot into piggy-back roles (ie Player A goes 4 or 5 IP in the start and Player B finishes it out. Next time thru the rotation, the players reverse with B starting and A finishing the game). I know a number of clubs, including the Indians do this with one (sometimes 2) rotation slots from the High A level on down. It allows for another person to get "starting pitching development" as it gets guys into set routines and patterns. IF DS has not already implemented this practice with the Brewer development plans, I imagine it is right around the corner in intro since there are so many extra players (especially pitchers) needing a place to play and develop further.
  2. A year ago at this point I figured there was no way the Brewers would be able to move Braun and that the contract would be an anchor attached to the neck of the franchise. Now that it appears he might be movable, I think the Crew needs to make the trade before Braun tweaks his back, hurts his hand, etc AGAIN (even if during workouts/ spring training/ etc). Further, once the 10/5 rights are fully in place for him, I think the possibility of moving him narrows even more. Yes, Ryan has a list of teams he would accept a deal to but think of that in reverse. He has to give a list of so many teams, even if he really doesn't like said place. He might only like half or a quarter of that list, but he has to provide X number. Those clubs off the list are those he has ZERO interest in going to. Once 10/5 is in place for Ryan, it could be team A or team B and that is it. Such a limited market would be extremely difficult for DS to maneuver in. My fear is DS (and most Brewer fans) OVER VALUE Braun and as such, viable trade packages have been rejected/ passed over. I'm not suggesting DS deal Braun for bag of balls, but a deal worth 85 cents on the dollar is better than a deal worth 50 cents or 25 cents on the dollar (be it from Dodger/ Giants/ etc). I look at this off season as the last 'close to value trade opportunity' exit on the tollway. Once it is passed, we are committed to keeping Braun come hell or high water.
  3. About 27.5M in surplus value. So two of their Top 4 prospects, most likely. .......... I think I hear Aerosmith warming up to do a live version of "Dream On"
  4. I understand your point and I share it to a degree. Sadly what some (you & I) would call hazing can be called team-building by others. Answer this: if the new ritual included "trust falls" and someone refused to participate, how would that go over?? If you were that person's teammate (that refused) could you fully support him or completely believe he had your back when things go wrong??
  5. ReillyMcShane brought up the Indians earlier in this thread but he left off a small tidbit that the Brewers might be able to follow. A few years ago, the Tribe really liked the depth of its system and it had a middle area pick in the 1st round. Many Tribe fans/ posters/ website guys were curious which route the team would take in the draft. One name/ pitcher was out there but everyone knew he just had TJ surgery and the Tribe often avoided undue risks. To everyone's surprise (& delight), the Tribe spent its 1st pick on Brady Aiken. Now, I'm not saying Aiken will definitely make it all the wall back to the player that warranted him as the #1 overall pick the year prior but it is possible. The Brewers system is VASTLY IMPROVED over where it had been a few years ago. As a result they might be able to take a little more risk here and there to try and draft that eye popping talent they might otherwise pass over (due to injuries/ attitude/ other Red Flags).

  7. Understand your point but I think you missed my suggestion/ idea. Will amend it to make more clear. Consider an April or May trade of Corey Ray (or other Brewer top 10 prospect) & the Comp Pick for Player X.
  8. Says absolutely nothing about Nottingham's future. He alone, controls that. If he shores up his defense and hits the way people think he can, he will have a future at the MLB level. It's really that simple. It does say something about Nottingham... he needs time to develop and not have the pressure of fans asking each month: 'Is he (Jacob) ready yet??' Only downside to move I see is the step down in pitch framing metrics (MM> Jeff Bandy). That directly impacts the pitching staff and has greater impact on those w/o the raw abilities. DS has earned the benefit of wait and see with the other talent he has brought in. I will give him the time and space to prove/ disprove the benefits of this deal. Lets withhold judgement on this deal for at least 6 months..
  9. Agreed, this is part of it. Out of the box thinking to solve a problem is another part. For example: the only draft picks that can be dealt are the Competitve Balance Selections and the Brewers are fortunate enough to have one of those trade able items for each of the next 5 drafts. Use that resource for more then just a selection/ adding money to the bonus pool. Find a club that has one of the talents we seek (preferably a club that has no 1st round due to a FA signing) and send away 1 of our 'good but not generational changing' prospects & that years comp pick for that talent. EDIT: Allow me to amend so my idea is more clear - take Corey Ray (or other Brewer top 10 Prospect & Comp Pick to another team for top prospect X. Making the move in April or May when comp pick is still available for 2017 and the Brewer prospect is performing at or better then expected levels. I'm talking upgrading of a talent that last step, not from ground floor to the top floor.
  10. Welp... the move of Eaton to Washington kicked over another domino/ deal...... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/nationals-trade-danny-espinosa-to-angels.html Two minor leaguers to the Nationals but that is not the main part of the story. This move seems to remove a possible landing spot for Scooter Gennett in a trade. Unless the Angels view Scooter as a natural platoon partner for Danny.. One can only hope..

  12. Clearest evidence that Dubon was targeted by DS. I think the trade is a win for the Brewers unless all 3 guys they received fall on their face...
  13. Cheez - neither reason you gave makes any sense. 1) If player is selected from team A, team A is unable to protect others after that selection. The protected list was put in place before the winter meetings (& therefore before the Thornberg trade). 2) Players drafted in June XX are able to be dealt right after the conclusion of the world series in XX PTBNL can't be on the 40 man roster so perhaps DS & company want a little more time to review some scouting reports/ medical info before they name the person.
  14. Please enlighten the rest of us on "HOW THEY ABSOLUTELY KNEW".
  15. Its a common practice... Heck, the Padres were working multiple deals and they had the #3 pick of the draft..
  16. Jeff Manship (RHP) should be a target. Had a great 2015 and solid 2016 for Cleveland. Was non-tendered at the deadline. Could be someone that is sneaky good and able to be a decent trade chip to flip at the deadline in July...
  17. Was this counting done before the winter meetings or after it started (& moves made). I'd think some changes would result with the various trades...
  18. Jeffries also seems to struggle when not with the Brewers. There might be a match for the clubs to make a deal..
  19. Normally I would agree with you. But a lot of reports have the BoSox trying very hard to avoid paying any luxury tax this season and the moves already made have them within a couple million of that threshold. Signing EE puts them over.
  20. Glad he landed there. One less place for EE/ Trumbo/ Napoli to land.. Cleveland might be able to get someone at a more reasonable contract. Although are any of the major league FA contracts "reasonable" by normal person standards??
  21. I understand your point but the role or Scooter changed with the Thornberg trade today. Pre-Trade there were more questions about 3B and Villar was more in that mix (thereby opening 2B). Scooter had a playing role. Post-Trade, Shaw is at 3B (with Perez as primary backup) and Villar is able to be 2B (and SS back-up). Scooter has no playing role. Every club has 1 or 2 guys on their 40 man that are 'easier' cuts in the event of injury need/ etc. At this point, Scooter is in that role for the Brewers.
  22. No it doesn't. They might want to keep Gennett in case Arcia struggles out of the gate and they have to move Villar back to short for a while. We're all assuming Arcia's here to stay, but maybe they'll decide to get him more work in AAA. At worst, Gennett becomes a nice late inning PH option from the left side and allows Counsell to do some double switching in the infield. He's not making so much that having him as a bench player is out of the question. That said, I'm a huge Scooter fan myself and feel he's been underappreciated by many. Yea, there's a chance Arcia STARTS the season in AAA. Not likely, but wouldn't shock me. I'm a Scooter fan too. Just too bad he can't play another position. Short of injury or major discipline issue, I can not come up with a single legit reason to have Arcia begin 2017 in AAA. Scooter got a new contract for2017, but realistically he should be released when his roster space is need for someone else.
  23. More likely the Dodgers are being proactive for the injuries that will come. Urias & DeLeon fill in the holes that occur in the rotation. Also there were reports that Kazmir was on the trade block over the weekend.
  24. Javier Baez at 2B for Puerto Rico. That INF is sick..
