It would be surprising if Kris Bryant is not voted in from the final 5. All final 5 are deserving but I think having the mass of chicago fans behind him & being ROY & MVP the prior 2 seasons will garner much voting for Kris..

Perhaps his value has dropped in the eyes of others, but those on the South Side of Chicago do not feel his value has dropped one bit. In fact with the pending trade deadline, they want even more at this point (compared to last off season). They want a kings ransom. ChiSox are in no hurry to deal Quintana. Should he pitch even better in July, the price tag goes up even more. -

Trying to determine another "contender" that would want him... List of possible destinations appears rather small. The big markets are all filled & he is having a sub-optimal year this season (offensively & defensively). Cleveland is a solid "NO" at this point. Having Francisco Mejia in the wings for later in 2018/ 2019 is preferable.. Maybe Colorado or Arizona... Perhaps Minnesota for next season & moving forward... -

A lefty that throws 95 is equivalent to a righty that throws 100. Look how dominating Hader is a 94. Quintana had a 1.78 ERA in June. He got off to a slow start this year which was in part attributed to all the trade talk surrounding him. He's been remarkably consistent his entire career and is one of the best LH pitchers in the game over the past 5 seasons. Guaranteed Rate Park is a launching pad. Compares to Miller Park as a hitter's park. Quintana's got excellent stuff by the way. His career K rate is a solid 7.5 per 9 and this year it's 8.9 per 9. Over his career, Quintana has been the victim of poor run support. But he's touched 200 innings for 4 straight years and he's on pace to get close to that this year. I'd do Ray and Derby in a heartbeat. Not sure that would get it done but Ray and Woodruff might and I'd do that too. Brewers have a boatload of OF. Coulter and Cordell offer would get laughed at. Only guys I'd consider untouchable are Brinson, Ortiz and Burnes. Quintana would make this team a threat not just to get to playoffs in 2017 and 2018 but he'd give them a shot at advancing teaming with Nelson and hopefully a healthy Anderson in the playoffs. As Mark Sweeney said during yesterday's game. Rebuild is one thing but they need to "honor the guys on this roster that put them in this position." Adding a quality arm like Quintana, says to this team, "We believe in you guys". Surrendering 2 of your better prospects and possibly a 3rd marginal one is a cheap price for a guy who's a 21.5 WAR player over his first 6 seasons. Worst case is they don't contend in 2018 and you deal Quintana a year from and likely get 50% of what you paid to get him back. Either way the syetem is still a strong one, and the major league roster is full of young controllable talent. Solid post. Reasonable thought process. While it is important to understand what the Brewers could afford to part with, the other part of the equation is what do the ChiSox need. They are not dealing Robertson or Quintana just to do it or for salary relief. Moves are being done to improve their own organization. Would Ray & Woodruff be enough to tempt them? Does it address needs that they have?? The prior deals of Sale & Eaton brought in a boatload of talent already. What do they see as needs at this point? What gap are they addressing by dealing Frazier/ Robertson/ etc to another team?? Do those acquired players fill the holes that Ray/ Woodruff might have otherwise filled?? -

Brewers claim Stephen Vogt on waivers
MadThinker88 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The winning aspects for me in all this is the good clubhouse presence AND the remaining years of control. Besides providing greater depth behind the plate, he has been dealing with younger player groups in Oakland for a few years now. That suggests he will be a good guy for CC to lean on for the next few years. The remaining control means an improved Vogt can be easily hung onto. If the performance does not improve, the business of baseball will continue to move forward.. -

I understand why you target him. But unless you overwhelm them, the Tigers will hold onto Greene. What do you propose in dealing to the Tigers for Greene??
-
Perhaps he should target Durham (currently w/ TB).. Having the High A club already in Carolina might add to the draw for the Brewers getting in there (compared to someone in the FSL). The TB High A affiliate is still in FSL..

Hearing this news & reading this thread I thought of the scene from Animal House. During the disrupted parade, a 'playboy bunny' gets launched thru a bedroom window. Inside a teenage boy is looking thru a magazine and sees what is now laying across his bed. He looks up at the ceiling and goes "thank you God!" and the scene shifts away. Had the exact same feelings. Have to imagine a number of Brewer draft picks from 2016 & 2017 are saying the same thing..

Relief Pitcher Probabilities
MadThinker88 replied to BrewCrewBlueDevil's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Robertson is regarded as the top trade deadline candidate & the best relief pitcher on the market. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/top-50-trade-deadline-candidates-for-2017-2.html On top of that the White Sox have no need to dump payroll. Washington thought they had a deal in place for Robertson over the winter and the Sox backed out.. The Sox will be looking for a kings ransom. Although a nice thought, the Brewers are better served targeting other options and not negatively impacting the overall rebuild process. Stay the course and it will be a fun multi year run for the Crew (2019 thru 2023).. -
I thought Tony LaRussa tried something similar with Oakland during the summer of 93... Starters only went 3 IP and then it was turned over to another pitcher for 3 IP and then 3rd pitcher or matchups to finish the game...

For a team rebuilding (ChiSox) that has a market of clubs looking for experienced late inning closer help (lets start with Washington) & could afford to retain his salary on their books, why would they take a lesser prospect package & move the salary?? Please explain that reasoning... This season reminds me a lot of the 2014 season when the Brewers jumped out ahead with a flawed team & capitalized on other clubs suffering some key injuries. Then after the All Star break the Brewers suffered the injuries & others got healthy. In the end the club finished in 3rd place only 2 games over .500 Imagine if the rebuild started that offseason with Lucroy getting dealt away right after the great 14 season. The haul for him ALONE would have been greater than the haul he & Jefferies combined brought back from Texas.. The rebuild is working. Don't rush the process.

Something to consider: What is Super Two? Players who qualify for “Super Two” designation — that is, the top 22 percent of MLB players with between two and three years of service time — will be eligible for arbitration four times as opposed to the standard three that the rest of the league will qualify. Basically, teams can hold back a player beyond the super two deadline to retain 1 additional year of control before arbitration (saves tons of money). Here are the last service times for previous super two deadlines: Format: 2.130 = 2 years + 130 days 2016: 2.131 2015: 2.130 2014: 2.133 2013: 2.122 2012: 2.140 2011: 2.146 2010: 2.122 2009: 2.139 Each MLB season counts as around 183~ days of service. So basically, a prospect needs to be called up after 183 - , so for 2016: 183 - 131 = 52 It's pretty safe to assume the 2017 super two date will be between 2.120 and 2.140, or 63 and 43 days respectively. Since the season started on April 2, 2017, this puts the super two date to be between: May 13 and June 4 Most teams will want to be positive they miss the deadline, so they will probably call prospects in mid to late June to be safe.

Pohlman Field in Beloit

I vote dump. I drove down from Eau Claire during summer 2015 to see Lake County visit for some games. Went to Sat n Sunday games. After seeing the place I wish I had gone to games elsewhere. At least Beloit is off my list of stadiums to see now.. Fox in Appleton looks like a palace in comparison... -
Pitching is still the name of the game. Without it you do not get far. When you think you have enough, the smart move is to look for more. Its also why it is so expensive to acquire in trade or free agency. Listen, the Tribe is still kicking itself for letting Hector Rondon get away to the cubs via the Rule 5 a few years ago & dealing away Chris Archer (yes, the one in Tampa) while he was still in Low-A ball. Barring injury McKenzie is on track for the getting to the bigs at some point in 2019, when he would be 21 yrs old. Will he dominate? Will he fall flat on his face? Time will tell but that is a talent that does not get traded. IF there is one thing that DSterns has done well with the rebuild its getting a boatload of talent in certain areas so he could (in theory) use it to make trades OR ignore talents at certain stocked positions to make draft selections & international signings where he currently has lesser talent. A few years ago the Tribe system had enough depth that they took a risky pick in Brady Aiken. At this point it does not look like a good gamble but the point is they had the depth to make the selection. They also had the depth to complete a trade for Andrew Miller & nearly get Lucroy while still having Zimmer, McKenzie & others in the system..

You may not be wrong as teams have their own internal evaluations of prospects and tend to really like their own (as thats why they have them). However, is there any independent source that has ever rated Mckenzie ahead of just Ray alone as a prospect? MLB.com, Baseball America, Fangraphs, Baseball Prospectus, ESPN all have Ray higher. I don't think a slow return from knee surgery has hurt Ray's prospect evaluations as much as with box score followers. Each of those sources listed had it before the season started. Come the mid-season update (with graduations already this year and the completed draft), we will see many changes. Here's a couple of Indians-related responses from today's Fangraphs' Q&A (5/30/17). fangraphs.com/blogs/eric-longenhagen-prospects-chat-530 12:26 Rob M : Where does Triston McKenzie appear on Top 100 lists next spring? 12:26 Eric A Longenhagen: Probably in the 30s. From Milb.com w.milb.com/milb/news/toolshed-mays-prospect-numbers-of-note/c-233351998/t-185364810 By Sam Dykstra / MiLB.com | May 31, 2017 12:45 PM ET Around the end of each month of the Minor League season, Toolshed will explore the most eye-popping statistics from the previous month. This edition explores MiLB leaders in various categories from May 1-30. .117, Triston McKenzie, Class A Advanced Lynchburg, average-against: Carolina League batters are finding it incredibly difficult to hit the Indians' No. 3 prospect, who allowed only 12 hits while striking out 43 over 31 1/3 innings in May. Their best method to reach base has been the free pass; McKenzie allowed more walks (14) this month than hits. As soon as the 19-year-old right-hander can pitch more in the zone, the hits could increase, but he should be an even more dominant hurler overall.

First off: you need a lot more than Santana & Ray to get McKenzie.. It would probably be cheaper to get Salazar and that proposed package would not get it done for Salazar. Now I can understand the interest in McKenzie (a top 100 prospect already and on the rise into top 50 per some outlets) but if Cleveland was unwilling to discuss him last season in deals/ proposals for Andrew Miller & Lucroy, why would they consider moving him this season??
-
Didn't see this elsewhere... It looks like the Brewers will have 1 1/2 teams in the Dominican Summer league. Their own squad, and a team they will share with the Indians The two teams are scheduled to play on opening day, tomorrow. milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?cid=&lid=130&org=&sc=&sid=milb&t=league&ymd=20170603 Building a better minor league pipeline is always a goo idea, regardless of who you partner with,,,
