  1. Maybe if they let Bay walk they'd be willing to give up a little more to get Fielder. For one thing, they'd have a hole in their lineup to fill. Also, they'd have some more money available to sign Fielder to a long term deal. Trading for Braun though, after he just signed a VERY reasonable 8 year contract....that is funny. I don't know, what do you think Boston would be willing to give up? You'd think it would start with Bucholtz and Anderson. After that, what do you think they'd give up? As much as fans from other teams like to bash Fielder for his weight, he is a top 5 hitter in all of baseball. Who wouldn't want him in their lineup?
  2. and the pitching including a top of the line prospects in Bumgarner and Alderson Just a minor detail but didn't Alderson get traded to Pittsburgh in the Freddie Sanchez deal? I think SF would be a logical place as well due to their dire need of offense and their overwhelming pitching depth. I actually wouldn't mind combining Fielder and Hardy in a deal with SF to bring back some serious pitching talent, starting with Bumgarner. Tha being said, I disagree that Boston doesn't have enough to get him. Bucholz, Bowden/Hagadone plus Anderson (we have no 1st base prospects in the entire organization) and Daniel Bard, in my opinion, would be a nice haul.
  3. Apparently Buster Olney is predicting Fielder will end up in Boston next season. Which begs the obvious question, who would we get in return? Obviously Clay Bucholtz would have to be the starting point. Would they be willing to include Lars Anderson and another high ceiling pitching prospect? Daniel Bard maybe? Perhaps in order to get another high ceiling pitcher we'd also have to include a lower level pitcher of our own, someone like Periard or Frederickson.
  4. I would prefer Gamel at 1st and Green at 3rd over vice versa. Green is the better defensive player. I would too, but some people seem to take offense at the idea of Mat Gamel playing first base.
  5. Heether looks like he has done well in AAA this year, but might be another Casey McGehee type who is having a peak year as an older AAA player. Where would you play him if you're calling up Gamel as well? He might be, but he might be a Casey McGehee type who could do what Casey McGehee is doing this season. He can play third, second, or short, and he'd be a perfect bench player for next season. I really think that if he doesn't get called up that Melvin dropped the ball. I mean, really, what does it hurt? The team is not making the playoffs. Are they worried about having to pay him? He deserves a shot at the very the least to come up and pinch hit a few times over the final few weeks.
  6. I can understand that. But Ben Sheets' upside is so much higher than Suppan's ever was. Perhaps the amount is too high, but I was just implying that I wouldn't even hesitate too much if it is going to take a two year deal to get him.
  7. I don't know if I'd put too much stock into that. It's nice to hear Sheets speak positively about a possible comeback, but he is probably just keeping all options open at this point. Even so, you have to at least look into it. If we can sign him for 2 years at $14 million or even one year at $7 or $8 million, it'd be worth it. He's the same high risk high reward type players we've signed in Gagne and Hoffman. We have a lot of money coming off the books. They have to look it into it.
  8. If nobody has any to trade and would be interested in buying them, let me know. I have no idea what a fair price is for bobbles, and I'm not looking to maximize profit, I'm just trying to get rid of the extra bobbles. Like I said, I'd love to trade them for some I dont have, but if someone wants to buy them let me know.
  9. I'd say Cameron if he's back. What about Todd Coffey or Villanueva? Maybe Dave Bush.
  10. You know, if he would be willing to listen I'd definitely offer him something. That being said, from everything I've heard, he's not going to come back. I do think they should re-sign Capuano and Mike Jones though.
  11. Per the intro the grades haven't been updated just the notes. Yes I did not read that part http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  12. Nice little recap, but I wonder about those grades. Cutter Dykstra gets a higher grade than Jonathon Lucroy? Jeremy Jeffress gets a B?
  13. As much as I like Counsell, I think we need to move on. Adam Heether is cheaper and younger and can play the same positions. I'd offer Lopez arby, if he takes it, great, if not, we get the picks. I think ideally I'd say Gamel, Escobar, Weeks, Fielder, Heether, McGehee. If we trade Fielder, then Gamel, Escobar, Weeks, McGehee, Heether and Lopez. The only problem with having both Weeks and Lopez is who plays and who sits? I like Irabarren but there is just no room for him. If we can't trade him, I'd say play him in center for Nashville all year.
  14. Ok thanks. I wouldn't be opposed to him staying this in Huntsville/Nashville next season.
  15. I looked at the roster they have posted on USCHO and they don't have any goalies or freshmen listed. Does anyone know if they brought in any decent freshmen? Try as a might, I just cannot find a good site for up to date college hockey recruiting.
  16. Is Adam Heether not going to get called up? If not, I think its an insult to him. He deserves a shot not only to come up, this season, but to make the team next season. He can play 3 infield positions and would be an ideal utility player. It would save us from having to sign someone else and would provide nice depth for the infield. If he doesn't come up, it would be one more straw to throw on the back of my confidence in this teams front office.
  17. Well i never said he was going to replace Fielder next season. I was just wondering if his playing first base is temporary or if they're going to keep him there for awhile. Also, if he has a strong AFL season there is no guarantee he'll have to repeat AA.
  18. Prince is absolutely not replaceable. I don't think anyone will argue that. However the more I think about it, the more I believe we have to trade Fielder this year. With 2 years left on his contract, and him coming off arguably his best overall season, this is when he'd bring in the most. If I had any confidence in Melvin to go out and get the pitching we needed without trading Fielder, I wouldn't say this, but the free agent crop is weak, and people like Hardy or McGehee aren't going to bring back the kind of pitching we need to return to the playoffs next year. While no one player can replace Fielder, I would hope that the additions of Gamel and either Rivera or Salome would upgrade those two positions. McGehee could play first place next season. Fielder could being in return a young first base prospect and at least one high ceiling pitcher, which would allow us to basically start anew in 2011, even though most of the team would remain the same. Basically I don't see us doing whats necessary next season, and if we keep Fielder for 2011 we risk losing him with nothing in return. I will no longer favor settling for draft picks over trading for prospects after seeing Milwaukee get screwed over in the Sabathia situation.
  19. He has seemed to be playing first base a lot lately. Is this a move that is likely to be permanent? It's probably not a bad idea. With Gamel and McGehee he probably can't crack third base. Even though he doesn't have the power numbers of a Fielder he is a contact hitter more in the mold of a Lyle Overbay. He could be ready to replace Fielder after next season.
  20. I came across an extra Suppan bobble from this year and Corey Hart from last year. I am just looking to trade them for 2 bobbles I don't have yet. The bobbles are both in good condition, but the Suppan box is a little crumpled so if you're looking for pristine conditioned I'll tell you right now that you probably won't want these. I'd love to get some of the sausage bobbles bc all I have is the one from this year (polish I think) but I'm pretty much open to anything. I'd even trade them for 2 of the mini bobbles from a few years ago. Let me know if you're interested.
  21. Fielder is still relatively cheap for the production he brings. If you are going to maximize his value, you trade him this year as he has 2 years remaining on his contract. If you feel you can contend next year, you hold off. Only Melvin knows because only Melvin knows what he's going to do with the pitching. I think we all can agree that without a significant upgrade to the pitching staff, which isn't going to come from within, this team is basically a .500 team. As far as teams....what about San Francisco? They are loaded with pitching and are hurting for offense. Maybe package Hardy and Fielder and get a package starting with Bumgarner.
  22. Parra has had one bad season. Why give up on him now? His value is probably as low as its going to get and we desperately need pitching. Trading him makes no sense at all.
  23. If we trade Fielder this offseason to Texas, does anyone think they'd part with Justin Smoak (Nate mentioned it earlier in the thread)? If we can get Smoak and a top pitching prospect, I say go for it. 2 years of a top two offensive player in the NL for a team on the cusp of making the playoffs, without them having to give up any major league talent......its possible. It would solve our first base problem for years. Next season might be forgetful, but the year after that who knows. You'd have the Riske, Hall, and Suppan deals off the books. The core of the team (Braun, Escobar, Salome/Lucroy, Gamel) would still be there. Smoak would probably be ready to play first. Is this a realistic asking price? Would Texas be interested in Fielder?
  24. I don't think Jones will ever see the majors except as someone's Mike Burns at some point. He's going to be 27 next year so he's long past the prospect stage. Even when he's been healthy enough to pitch, his results have been pretty ordinary. Six years have passed since he went 7-2 with a 2.40 ERA as a 20 year old in AA. That's an awful long time. I disagree with this to an extent. While he is 26, its not like he's been toiling around in the minors for 7 years, bouncing from team to team. He's been dealing with injury after injury. He was having pretty good success before he got hurt. While his numbers are fairly average this season, don't forget that 1) this is his first full season in years and 2) He has pitched at 3 different levels, including a level he's never pitched at before. His second start in AAA was really good, so it's not like he CANT do it. He just needs some time to get his pitches back to where they were and to regain his confidence. The more I think about it, the more I hope he gets called up to pitch out of the bullpen after the Nashville season is over.
  25. If Escobar sits on the bench so JJ Hardy can get playing time, I going to have even less respect for Ken Macha than I already do.
