  1. So far Gamel seems to be handling third base ok in Milwaukee. If he can stick there it would be such a huge bonus for the Brewers. I still wouldn't include Parra or Gallardo, but I'd more or less let SD pick two pitching prospects plus Escobar and another mid level guy like Irabarren or Gillespie. To me, it seems like offensively they are set for the next few years but pitching is a major concern. You'd be trading from a strength and improving a weakness. With Gallardo and Peavy, you basically have two #1's for the next three years, and you take some pressure off of Parra. If you can keep Bush for another few years, you have a very solid rotation while giving your system some time to hopefully develope some of these young arms like Scarpetta, Odorizzi, Braddock, Lintz, and Anundson.
  2. I wouldn't include Parra, but I would include Jeffress and any other pitching prospect they want. To me, it defeats the purpose of acquiring Peavy if you trade the pitcher with probably the second most potential behind Gallardo. I was thinking something like Escobar, Jeffress, Braddock, and Irabarren. If you wanna swap Hart and Giles too, I'd be all for that as well. I was a huge Corey Hart fan, but it seems like pitchers have made adjustments and he hasn't.
  3. In all seriousness, it mentioned something about had the meteor actually hit the earth instead of exploding where it did, humans would have been rendered extinct. I thought I heard that the meteor exploded at just about the worst point it could have exploded. Does anyone know which one of those is more accurate?
  4. Or so says a Russian scientist regarding the Siberian meteorite explosion in 1908. Interesting, but quite a leap from the proof that he has. http://macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/6868/56/
  5. Depending on what he asks for, I would consider giving him a deal that would go through next year. They are probably going to lose Looper, and could always use an upgrade over Suppan. An offseason would give him more time to get his game back together and he;d be in a contract year as well.
  6. He got roughed up in his first appearance in BC, so I wouldn't count on it. I just don't understand how someone can be so unable to throw a strike. I'd rather have him give up 3 hits per inning and walk none than for him to keep doing what he's doing now.
  7. I think they got the Mafia-Yakuza one wrong too. I think in real life the Yakuza would destroy the mafia.
  8. He said "give up" not "give up on". I think he was just talking about including Parra in a trade. Thanks BrewCrew....I didn't mean give up on, I meant I wouldn't include him in a deal. If we lose Parra and Looper at the end of the year, we're probably going to have to overpay for an average at best starter again next year.
  9. Has anyone seen this show on Spike? What an awesome show. It basically takes two groups or individual that have never faced off against each other, such as the Mafia against the Yakuza, and basically simulate who would win. They compare things like short range weapons, long range weapons, and fighting style, and then put all their information into some computer and show a simulated fight at the end and guess who'd win. It very interesting. They have shows that include the Mafia vs. the Yakuza, the Maori vs the Shaolin Monk, the Green Berets vs. Spetznaz, the IRA vs the Taliban, etc. If anyone is looking for somethinng to Tivo and watch when the get bored, I recommend this show.
  10. I wouldn't give up Parra. I know he's struggling this season, but we are still counting on him to be the backbone of our rotation for years to come. Someone said a few posts back that they have little for MI prospects? Perhaps Irabarren would intrigue them as well? He's never really been given a shot. Though his value certainly doesn't match what Escobar's is, he is a player SD could stick at 2nd right away. How abour Jeffress, Escobar, Irabarren, and a younger pitcher like maybe Frederickson?
  11. Is Braddock going to go back to starting soon? He seems to be very dominant in his current role.
  12. Doesn't San Diego need a SS too though? Escobar is a top notch prospect, Jeffress still has potential to be a #1 starter. I think a lot would depend on how their scouts view him. You'd probably have to throw in another pitcher or two (like Braddock, Scarpetta, Anundson), but I think its a stretch to say we don't have the pieces to get Peavy. The biggest obstacle would be to get Peavy to accept a trade here. If he does I'm sure something could be worked out.
  13. They should take this oppurtunity and go get him. Escobar, Jeffress, and Braddock/Anundson/anyone else. Let's face it, even if Jeffress does pan out, at this rate you won't be able to count on him for another 3 years probably. Escobar, yeah I hate to lose him but its not like you don't have another option. Peavy and Gallardo at the top of the rotation have the potential to be as good as or better than a healthy CC and Sheets combo was, and you'll have it for 3 years at least. Throw in Parra and Bush and with this offense you'll be in the middle of the playoff run for years to come. The salary will be an issue, but so what. Its an extra $15 million per year. If he doesn't want to come to Milwaukee....so be it, at least you tried. But he is an elite pitcher who could really put us over the top.
  14. Its hard to imagine what this could be. I'd be disappointed if they went out and got a second basemen now as I'd prefer to see the in house options (McGahee, Irabarren, Gamel) be given oppurtunities first.
  15. I'm a little more disappointed then a lot here seem to be. Jake Peavy is only 27 years old and is signed for 3 more years. He is an elite pitcher. I was initially a little hesitant to give up Escobar and Jeffress, but neither one is exactly making claim for minor league player of the year this season. If we could have gotten Peavy for Escobar, Jeffress, and Zach Braddock, I would have done it in a heartbeat. Obviously you'd have to extend Hardy maybe at 4 years, $45 million. But can you imagine a rotation for the next three years of Peavy, Gallardo, and Parra, with hopefully Bush at 4? Prince is here 2 more years, Hardy would be here for 4, Braun for like 6. Gamel would be here. Cain and Salome and Green hopefully within 2 years. Gillespie and Lawrie, Lucroy and Gindl. We'd still have plenty. You clear up tons of salary within 2 years (Cameron, Suppan, Kendall, Hall, Hoffman, Riske) which would help offset costs. Yeah you'd have to raise the payroll to cover the contracts to Peavy and Hardy and raises to Fielder and Weeks but you really wouldn't need to spend a ton on free agents as just about every position would either have an incumbant or a prospect. If this deal falls through, I hope Melvin contacts San Diego.
  16. The #1 priority should be something more attainable like Gallardo or Hardy. Thats what I was going to say. Gallardo number one. Hardy number two. I think a bigger priority will be finding a replacement for Fielder.
  17. The gap may also clear up once some of the other DNA tests come back.
  18. http://www.shorewest.com/ Thats probably the best website you can use. Just put in your price range and what you're looking for. Then write down the MLS numbers of the ones you like and go look at a bunch of them on one day so you can compare them to each other. I bought a house last November, and I am kicking myself for not waiting like 6 more weeks when I would have gotten $8000 for nothing.
  19. I don't know why, but I have a feeling we are going to miss Brad Nelson in a year or two.
  20. Why not give Irabarran a shot? He's hitting over .300 in Nashville. Granted he's only got 8 walks, but he also only has 17 k's in 119 at bats, so he puts the ball in play. You don't have to make him the every day 2nd basemen, but why not see what he can do? I guess though.....making Gamel the every day third basemen and moving the Hall/Counsell platoon to 2nd base wouldn't be terrible. Even though the defense at third base takes a huge drop, the defense at second base improves a bit.
  21. I'm still rooting for Scarpetta, and I've been following Caleb Gindl quite a bit. I am hoping Odorizzi has a successful season yet. I've also been really interested in following the progress of Wooten and Mercedes as they seem to be dominating A+.
  22. In 17 innings, he's got 13 saves, given up 1 earned run and has 24 strikeouts. It doesn't seem to me like he has anything left to prove. He also seems to be a little old for A+. Why not give him a chance in Huntsville and slide Roque Mercedes into the closers spot in BC to see if he can handle closing?
  23. Another shaky outing by Jeffress. Is it to the point where his control problems are getting into his head? I sure hope not.
  24. It sure is nice to see Taylor Green back in the lineup. How long is he going to be in Wisconsin before he gets bumped to Huntsville?
  25. I think if he goes on the DL you call up Irrabarren. You need to see what he can do, plus he'd be another left handed bat. I don't think you move Hall. He's having a fairly productive year at third base so I don't see why you move him. In my opinion Gamel is going to get sent back down after interleague play anyway (at least I think he should)
