  2. What could we get for Bush or Vargas? an open rotation spot for Villanueva?
  3. THe union represents major league players not minor league players i thought i heard that somewhere. not to mention for some teams, if they have to fork over big bucks for draftees, they might not be willing to pay full price on free agents, hurting current major leaguers. considering the vast majority of draftees never make it to the show, i cant imagine the union would care all that much.
  4. Im just curious...lets say that Selig all of a sudden does take a hardball stance on changing the draft. How much of a fight would the players union put up? I cant imagine it would be a lot, so why not just do it already?
  5. it just seems like if you take 1/3 NHL draft (allowing kids to go to college after signing while still retaining the players rights) 1/3 NBA draft (contract caps on rookie contracts/world wide draft) and 1/3 NFL draft (trade draft picks/compensatory picks for losing players but nothing to the extent of 3 extra picks before the third round), you'd have the perfect MLB draft
  6. that really helps....thanks
  7. i am looking at possibly buying a condo. i am trying to find a good website where i can simply put in information regarding the condo i want (i.e. price, # of bed/bathrooms, amenities, etc.) and then have all the condos that fit that data pop up for me to compare. The catch is the condo has to be in the city of Milwaukee. Do any of you have any good websites in mind to help me find a condo that fits my needs and price range?
  8. I agree that all this stuff needs to be done, but i am trying to make people pick one. Ideally, there are 4 things I'd like to change 1) World wide draft 2) Trading draft picks 3) Cap on how much a player can sign for based on round he was drafted 4) eliminate all sandwhich picks...keep rule of giving up first round pick if you sign type A free agent, unless its top 15, then lose 2nd round pick however, the one i would pick if i could only pick one is the cap on signing, since i believe then the best players wouldnt fall into the 20's because nobody wants to negotiate with them. in all honesty, I'm irritated Selig wont do anything like this. He screams as much as anyone about Boras, but a simple cap would clear it all up. Granted the players union wouldnt go for it, but would they really strike based on this alone, especially when the public probably wouldnt be on their side?
  9. i wasnt sure if i should put this in the draft thread because it's more of a hypothetical topic, but move it if its a better fit somewhere else. Now that the draft is over, I was thinking about how to improve it. If you guys could make one, and only one, improvement in any aspect of the draft, what would it be? although its hard not to pick a world-wide draft, i think the past few years shows that the best improvement would be to install a rookie salary cap, similar to how the NBA does it. For a guy who could have gone as high as #2 (Porcello) to drop all the to 27 because 25 teams dont want to pay him what he demands, is really unfair to the worst teams. Instead of taking the best player available as you can do in football and basketball, teams have to take the best player available they feel they can sign. Its unfair, and will continue to hurt smaller market teams unless its fixed. anyone have any other ideas?
  10. if he keeps this up, I cant imagine it would take much to get him, especially if we pay all of his salary. I'd bet two mid level prospects would do the trick, and I'd be all for it
  11. the only problem as i pointed out in another thread, is that in 2-3 years you'll be paying Weeks, Fielder, Hardy, Hart, and Braun big money. Do you really want $14 million tied up in one guy, a reliever no less? I'd say trade him, try to get back a high ceiling starter and a high ceiling position player (first baseman/catcher?), both at AA or higher, in return
  12. wow...i didnt think this would turn into a "rip Dominic James" thread. Badger fans making their mark.
  13. I actually wouldnt do that trade, but i'd do Weeks for Willis straightup in a heartbeat. I'd even throw in a medium pitching prospect like Tim Dillard or a regular like Vargas. Of all the main prospects, Weeks seems to be the only one not exceeding expectations, and in all honesty i dont think he'll ever be more than an average to slightly above average player. We could slide Bill Hall to second base fulltime, and play Gross/Gwynn in center field. A rotation of Sheets, Willis, Capuano, Suppan, Bush would be amazing.
  14. I want to download a song from Itunes. Its off the Napolean Dynamite soundtrack, and its called "the promise" by When in Rome. However, for some reason Itunes wont let me buy jsut that song, i'd have to buy the entire soundtrack. I thought maybe it would be like that for all the songs on the soundtrack, but its not. Does anyone know why i cant buy just that one, or where i could download from?
  15. maybe hes trying to play his way down to a good team http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I believe Inman will be a chip that is traded to shore up part of this team around the trade deadline. My guess is for another arm in the pen. In my opinion, Will Inman is way too good to be used to grab a bullpen pitcher at the deadline. This guy could be in Milwaukee's rotation the year after next, and he could be as dominating as we all think Gallardo might be. I dont think we trade our second best pitching prospect for a reliever. We can get a reliever for someone who isnt as highly touted, like Dillard.
  17. i have two and i dont think i will be able to go. they are in section 423 row 9. are you in milwaukee? i'll sell them to you for $10 each, but obviously since it's tomorrow i cant mail them to you.
  18. I had the same problem with the nut holding the bat. it fell out in one of mine. in the other one, i could barely screw it in at all
  19. Just thought that I would add that I have 32 tickets in hand just curious...did you buy all those tickets just to get 32 bobbleheads so you could sell them?
  20. Do they not teach English at Marquette? thats a very interesting first post. Welcome aboard but I would suggest only writing if you actually have something to say involving the discussion... that being said, James let the hype go to his head. Before the season, all the talk was how he and that guy from Alabama were the two best point guards and were for sure first rounders. James admitted he wasnt concentrating. If he returns, he'd better learn how to focus. If he can focus and play up to his potential, MU is going to have a good team, considering they only lost 2 players, neither of whom was all that good.
  21. Right now I dont think the Brewers have any need for Buerhle, but I'd trade for Dye in an instant if we could avoid giving up Inman. He's exactly what we need, a solid, power hitting corner outfielder. Maybe Irabarren, Parra, and a guy like Lorenzo Cain or Gillespie.
  22. I just read this article on yahoo news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070...on_decorum I am kind of in the middle on this. One the one hand, it seems a bit harsh to not give someone a diploma for something their friends/family did. On the other hand, Im sure this has occurred at just about everyone's graduation and I personally find it extremely obnoxious. 90% of the parents can follow the orders, but its those 10% that are hootin' and hollerin' (or as they say in the movie "Maverick"..."whoopin' around like a bunch of idiots") and bothering everyone else. I always feel sorry for the family after the person whose cheering section acts up because they cant hear their child's name being called. In this case they signed contracts, so you cant really fault the school for taking action I guess. Sometimes you just get the feeling some people think they are above the rules and when they get called on there actions they act surprised and offended.
  23. I saw Shrek 3 and agree it was a little boring. I am really looking forward to the Bourne Ultimatum as well, and also Transformers seems like it will be ok
  24. i wonder who he'll blame for this one. Perhaps a protest outside the federal building downtown?
  25. I was checking out the stats for BC today and noticed that of Lorenzo Cain's 49 hits, only 6 have been for extra bases. That equates to a .320 slugging percentage. He appears to be a good defender and has some speed to swipe bases. He strikes out about once every four at bats, but has a relatively low walk total. People seem to be pretty high on him, but whats the big difference between his game than that of Tony Gwynn Jr.? EDIT - Removed excessive punctuation from subject line. Keep Brewerfan beautiful. - bta
