  1. Those Lopez twins seem kinda like a couple of punks to me. Brook seems to be taking little cheap shots at people when they are trying to box him out. I think he could have easily been called for 3 fouls, especially when he landed on Blackledge after Blackledge went up for a layup. He also almost ran over Acker after Acker put up a three. I think if you pump fake on him you could draw some easy fouls.
  2. I am still not sold on Joe Dillon, let alone having him as an everyday player. He had a good few months, but I don't think we can expect him to repeat those numbers. We have no other second base prospects in the system unless they move Irrabarren back, and without Weeks they'd have no leadoff hitter. I am not sure I'd go for that.
  3. I would love to see Patterson in Milwaukee. I think he is better than Vargas and Capuano, and maybe Bush.
  4. I think Matthews has always been in a tough position by being forced to play bigger than he is. Marquette hasn't recruit any decent big men for years, and with James and McNeal, and now lately Acker and Cubillian in the lineup, Matthews has been forced to play out of position. He does not shoot well, but i think he defends ok. As an MU fan, I'd prefer to have Landry only because he is 2 inches taller and they need more bigs. Then they wouldn't have to play Dwight Burke as much.
  5. by calling vandals immature and cowardly? I guess I will re-read it but I dont recall saying whether I support the war or not or who i am going to vote for.
  6. Without turning into politics or talk about the war, I wanted to mention that the Army recruiting station on the east side of Milwaukee was vandalized again today. Whoever does this kind of stuff is nothing but and immature coward who has no grasp on the reality of life. I hope when they get caught the judge sends them to jail on top of making them for damages, so they can actually feel the consequences of what they do. Just like last year when 21 people were arrested for it, I'm sure they think they are being heros for their cause, saying they support the troops, but not the war. Thats a bunch of BS, how can you support the troops when you vandalism and spit on everything they stand for? These people are selfish punks who need to open their eyes.
  7. I'm also a little worried about the lack of competition for the rotation. Sheets, Gallardo, and Suppan should be in, no doubt, and I think Villanueva should be in unless he has a terrible spring, which he's not. I don't mind sending Parra to AAA in order to watch his innings. I think Vargas should be gone, even if he's traded for a low A, mid-level prospect. Capuano and Bush can compete for the 5th spot, with the loser being the long man. Parra or Jackson can come up in a bind.
  8. I was watching spike tv the other day, and I saw this tv show preview. It just showed a picture of space, with that heavy Darth Vader breathing in the background. Then at the end, 04-04-08 popped up. Does anyone know what thats all about?
  9. we need to keep everyone just in case Sheets Gallardo Capuano and Bush all get hurt at the same time,
  10. Why should we put a promissing young pitcher in a position where he pitches once every two weeks. Why should we put him in the minors when he's already had success at the major league level? Vargas is the 8th best starter. Yes, if 3 starters go down at the same time, we're going to need him but is it really worth keeping him on the MLB roster just in case 3 starters get hurt at the same time? Plus, if all he is going to be pitching are the Dessens type innings, then does it really make a difference if it is him or someone else, say Zach Jackson? Dessens last year is what Vargas is this year..a waste of space who should only pitch if they are down by 7 in the 3rd inning. Villanueva, overall, put up very good numbers last season. He pitched a lot early on last season out of the bullpen, so its not surprising he wore down after awhile. However, he put up tremendous at the end of the season when he started. I think its a bad idea not to use your five best starters and Villanueva is one of the five best.
  11. We are also concerned with next year and the year after and so on as much as this year. Give me a break. How is starting Villanueva in Nashville this year going to improve our chances next year? You keep comparing him to Capuano Suppan and Bush......in his one year he was far more consistent than Bush has ever been. I've never advocated getting rid of anyone other than Vargas. If you can honestly say you'd rather have Vargas on the roster than Villanueva than I can honestly say you're nuts! Also, I have never suggested making a move specifically to get him, or Parra, in the rotation. Villanueva is more than good enough to win a spot, especially over Vargas. Parra should be in AAA to limit his innings
  12. I just want to know, barring a really bad spring, how we can justify throwing Villanueva in the bullpen or Nashville. Last year he easily outperformed Bush, Capuano, and Vargas. I'm sorry, I don't agree with saving him so we can have more depth if ii means starting some pitchers who are inferior. The 2 or 3 game difference in wins we would get from him as opposed to Bush or Vargas may determine whether or not we're in the playoffs. You start your 5 best pitchers period. If injuries come up, you deal with them. I'm not suggesting we trade 3 of our 8 starters to get down to 5. You get rid of one, Vargas, who is the worst of the bunch and shouldn't even be on this roster right now.
  13. He has an option and we want to keep our depth. what an absolute horrible reason to start him in Nashville. Seriously...let's put him in Nashville because we can??? I'd rather dump Vargas and hope to avoid injuries than have him in the rotation and Villanueva in the minors waiting for someone to get hurt. Villanueva has had nothing but success in the majors, so lets stop predicting what he's supposed to do based on what scouts say about him and let him pitch until he proves he is no good.
  14. I don't know where all this negative talk about Villanueva is coming from. There is absolutely no reason to start him in AAA. Three is no way Vargas and Bush are both better than him. I think Parra needs to be in AAA to limit his innings. The rotation should be Sheets, Gallardo, Suppan, Capuano and Villanueva. Bush is too inconsistent to rely on. He should be the long guy and Vargas should be gone, with Parra and Zach Jackson being called up in case of injury.
  15. Well I know it will never happen basically because of the travel schedule. Its just nice to see some good, competitive games. Thats why I like that WBBY shootout in Milwaukee, the tournament where West beat Vincent.
  16. I don't want to get into a City vs Fox Valley debate b/c it will never end. Oshkosh West had a darn good team last year, but I don't think you can judge a how good a team is in comparison with one another because City teams, most notable King and Vincent, are known for playing national powerhouses. Vincent this season played 2 teams who spent time in the USA Today national top 25....but like you said..thats neither here nor there. All I really want to see is the WIAA seed the teams in the tournament. Could 1 and 2 lose ahead of time? Of course they could, but why have them play in the quarters while a team with 12 losses is playing a team with 7 losses in another quaterfinal? It just makes more sense to me to do that, thats all. Kimberly still gets a chance to beat Memorial or Vincent or West, but they get that chance it the quarters as opposed to the semis.
  17. 1-2 are going to have to play at some point. better to have them meet in the quarters than not at all. Besides, Oshkosh West had lost 1 game all year at that point, so it wasnt like Vincent or Memorial would be going up against some sort of inferior competition. Besides, just because all these Milwaukee Schools are ranked highly doesnt mean anything. There are a lot of really good schools in the FVA and in other conferences as well. It would seem ideal to have 1-2 meet in the state finals, not the quarters. After beating the 2nd ranked team in the state last season, Vincent went on to play a Kimberly team that was 13-13 and beat them by 25. Can you honestly say you want to see that in the state semi-finals? I am not saying Oshkosh West is a bad team or the FVA is a bad conference, but history shows the City Conference is the toughest and the best. Since 1990 (18 years) a city team has been in the finals 16 times, and won 11 championships. Two times it was an all-city championship. 4 of the best city teams, Washington, King, Tech, and Bay View, are in the same regional, along with Tosa East and Pius, and obviously only one them can make it to the tournament. Its obvious the WIAA is more concerned about having teams from all over the state make it, rather than the best ones.
  18. I say... 1) The Departed 2) Donnie Brasco 3) The Godfather 4) Casino 5) Goodfellas
  19. $10 million a year is hardly a low ball. Ryan Howard is making that, and thats what he asked for. Its a fair deal now, it will keep him happy for at least 3 years, and at the very least, it would basically leave the Brewers blameless for paying him $670k for a year
  20. Prince didn't hire Boras so he could play in New York. If wants to go to New York he will. Prince wants money, and I don't think he cares, for the most part, where it comes from.
  21. I find it real interesting that this is the first time in 30 years a team from Milwaukee didn't make. I know its supposed to be a state tournament, but I've always thought it was a joke how the tournament was set up. The fact that 4 of the top 10 teams in the state (Pius, King, Tosa East and Washington) are in the same sectional every year makes you wonder if they couldn't set it up better. I know its not realistic though. I think one thing they could do that is realistic is rank the teams in the state tournament 1-8 rather than having a formula to see who plays every year. Last year Vincent played Memorial in the quarters even though they were 1-2 in the state. It kind of takes away from the drama.
  22. The difference is that Fielder may have 0-3 years experience, but he is one of the elite players in all of baseball. Thats why he is so frustrated. If we offer him $40 for 4 years, you're right, he probably won't take it. But considering its his first major contract, I think he'll at least think twice about it. Plus, it will tell him we want you, and we are willing to pony up. This is definately a bad first step in the process of re-signing Fielder.
  23. This is going sound dumb, but people in this thread still seem to have the small market mentality. We all assume we're going to lose Fielder, and everyone keeps bringing up the Yankees. The problem is, we continue to nickle and dime our way around while more and more teams are spending the money. I'm not suggesting we spend wildly on average free agents (which we actually have been doing with Suppan and Kendall). But Fielder is the face of the franchise, and we just threw and insult at him. Why not at least offer him a 4-5 year deal worth $10 million a year? In 2 years, 10 per is going to be a steal. Meanwhile we are paying all these players minimum salary, of course they're going to bolt as soon as they can. if anything, I'd sign Hart Weeks and Braun to long term deals, and flat out tell Fielder we aren't going to negotiate with him as long as Boras is his agent. Maybe he'll get it.
  24. It just seems like we don't have any depth at that position. I have never been sold on Weeks, and Irrabarren just got switched to outfield. I guess you could always move a shortstop to 2nd base, but if you move a shortstop it is generally to center, not 2nd. I don't want them to go out their way to pick one up, but if any are around at a good spot, i wouldn't mind seeing them grab one. Jemile Weeks is a good example....he plays second right?
  25. are there any toolsy centerfielders ala cameron maybin and andrew mccutcheon (sp?) that might be available at 16? I hope they take the best available player at 16 and then kind of pick for need with their next 5 picks. I'd like to see them take at least 3 starting pitchers, at least one from college, and then maybe a catcher, a second basemen and an outfielder.
