  1. The draft is deep, and deep at the top, but there is not that franchise saving type of player I was hoping for. Those players are becoming more and more rare as the NBA draft is becoming like the MLB draft in that almost every pick now is based on potential. Players ready to contribute immediately are few and far between as more and more college players are leaving before they are ready. While there are no franchise saving players in this draft I'm happier that we get a top 4 pick in this draft than, say, last year's draft. This is a good draft to have a high pick in. It'd be a very good draft to have two first round picks in. Unfortunately the Bucks front office is too incompetent to have gotten that done like Philly and Orlando did. I agree though. Above all Milwaukee needs a new arena. There will never be support to get in done with taxpayer money though so we are left to hope that Kohl sells the team and contributes hundreds (not the "s" at the end) of millions of dollars to get it done.
  2. The Brewers need to draft high upside guys but they need to draft high upside guys past the first round. I think they did good with Williams and Neuhaus last year but after that their draft was a joke. One other HS pitcher and a ton of low ceiling college pitchers. Denson was a good later round selection but they need to draft high upside with more than 3 or 4 picks.
  3. We know Evolution won't last because the names are too big to all be in the same stable for very long. But man was that cool to see last night. Evolution was probably one of my three favorite stables of all time, along with DX and the Horsemen. Three man stables seem to be the thing now. Obviously you have the Shield and Wyatt Family. Evolution now. I'd be willing to guess they'll form some sort of stable under Heyman as well.
  4. a new owner I think the first thing a new owner would do is replace the GM and coach so that's what I'm hoping for. And man would Wiggins or Parker look good in a Milwaukee uniform next year?
  5. I think Holmes is a guy that a lot of us want right now. If we walk away with him or Ortiz I'll be happy.
  6. This can be our Closer of 2015. Closers are a dime a dozen. I don't like the idea of grooming someone to be a closer unless its a) someone who has always been a reliever or b) someone who has proven they can't succeed as a starter. Thornburg doesn't fit either of those. I think Johnny Hellweg is the guy who should be in the bullpen. I have no problem with Thornburg not being in the rotation right now because Estrada has earned the opportunity. I do think Thornburg should be starting in Nashville though. In my opinion Burgos and Fiers have no future as MLB starters. Thornburg does. He excelled last year as a starter and should have been given a fair chance to win a spot this year. But since he wasn't the least you could go is let him be the #6 starter, the first guy to get the call when a starter inevitably goes down. As far as the future goes. All 5 starters are locked up through at least next year. Given that we have Thornburg and Nelson basically ready now, and a plethora of guys who could be ready soon, I think they'll have to move a pitcher either at the deadline this year or in the offseason if they are in the middle of a playoff run this year. I don't know what type of prospect you could get for an Estrada or a Lohse but given how weak our system is I'd settle for just about anything. Perhaps we could even get one of those "competitive balance" picks included in a trade. A pick somewhere in the 40's could be fairly valuable.
  7. Aiken, Kolek, Holmes, Ortiz, Gatewood, Jackson, Cease, Gordon, Davidson, Toussaint etc. I'll agree with all of those guys except Toussaint. I don't want another hard throwing no control type guy. One thing I forgot to mention regarding the possibility of selecting an outfielder. On top of all the guys I mentioned, all four outfielders on our current ML roster are under control long term. Braun 2020 at the earliest, Gomez 2016, Davis 2020 and Schafer 2019. That doesn't mean they will be around that long of course but it's just more depth at the already deepest position.
  8. Our system isn't good enough to pass on someone more talented to fill a need. I think in this specific case our outfield is deep enough that you can and should pass on an outfielder in the first round. I generally agree with the best player available philosophy but we're are so thin at so many positions (3B, SS, 1B, SP, C) that I don't think we can pass on one of those positions if a player is available that is not too much of a reach. I understand that our talent isn't that great but we have several outfielders that project as every day players (Roache, Haniger, Taylor) and several others who could possibly fit that projection as well (Kentrail Davis, Michael Reed, Gindl, Richardson) We have nobody that projects as a major leaguer at third base right now (depending maybe on how the Jason Rogers experiment turns out). We maybe have one at SS in Arcia, POSSIBLY two at 1B with Morris and Denson, though they are both far from sure things. Catcher we have nobody unless you think Coulter will stay behind the plate. Second base we really have nobody though that's not generally a position you use a first rounder on. And we could always use more SP as I don't believe anyone who profiles as anything higher than a #3. I just don't see how you can select an outfielder when so many other positions are so weak. Unless of course that talent gap between the best outfielder and the next best player is really big but with the #12 pick I don't see that happening.
  9. I was watching Raw last night. Man fans just HATE John Cena. They need to stop pushing him as a face and move him to a heel. He could be the most hated wrestler in the organization if done right. He could just go off on the fans for their lack of support and tell them that he's sick of trying to be the good guy when nobody likes him. As far as the titles go. I remember when the IC title was reserved for the up and comers and would push them to the next level. Or it would be big name guys who just weren't in the world champion picture at the time. Guys like The Ultimate Warrior, Diesel, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels. The Rock, and HHH all had multiple IC reigns before hitting it big time and moving onto multiple heavyweight championship reigns. Now it's just like an after thought and something they throw at guys that they know will never get a chance at the heavyweight title. Speaking of Reigns I think Roman Reigns would be the perfect IC champion right now and would be a good way to move him away from the Shield and onto his own. Or honestly even give it to Brock Lesnar. I know he doesn't wrestle very often but if a big time superstar holds the belt for awhile it may bring some attention back to it.
  10. The two guys I really want right now are Holmes or Ortiz. However if that mock is the way it goes down I'd be pulling for Gatewood, Davidson or Cease. On a side note, I have a feeling I'm setting myself for a major disappointment in this draft. We all assume the Brewers will take the most talented guy or the with most upside but the Brewers have shown us in the past they don't always do that. For some reason they seem to have this thing for big bodied college guys. And since he fits the mold and is left handed I would not be surprised in the least bit to see Sean Newcomb as the pick.
  11. I'm hearing more and more about the prospect of an international draft? I'm sorry if this is being discussed elsewhere but I am wondering a couple of things. 1) How likely is this to actually happen? I know Selig wants it but is there enough support from the players union and MLB execs? 2) If this does happen would it be an entirely separate draft or would the international players be included in the main draft? 3) Are there any details at all proposed or is it simply in the deciding whether to even do it stage?
  12. In 2005, I really, really wanted Ryan Zimmerman. Alex Gordon was the guy I really wanted. You have to be honest with yourself and accept the misses with all the hits. I was ok with Jungmann and Bradley as picks, though I was a little worried about how much Bradley had been dropping. He had been considered a top 5 pick at one point. I actually was big on Taylor Guerreri that year too.
  13. Here's to hoping for a big year from Coulter. This organization desperately needs it. And here's to hoping for a position change. Ideally it would be third base but I'll be ok with a move to first base.
  14. I have no idea what the plan is for either of these two going forward, but it just seemed very strange for me. My thoughts are that we'll see a re-match next year which will be built up as the Undertaker getting his revenge. He'll win and then retire. This comment has really nothing to do with Wrestlemania but the WWE in general. Remember when the Intercontinental title actually meant something? Now it's not even contested at Wrestlemania? How sad is that. And as someone who admittedly has only recently started watching WWE again I thought this whole stupid thing with 2 separate world heavyweight champions was done. But Orton was always walking around with 2 belts. Now I assume Daniel Bryan will walk around with 2 belts? If the same person is always the champion what's the point of giving them two belts? Why retire one and build up the IC championship again?
  15. It always happens that the guy I start to really like makes a move and come draft day is gone before our pick. in 2012 it was Addison Russel. In 2011 it was Javier Baez and Francisco Lindor. This year the guy I was really hoping for was Brady Aiken but it looks like he'll now be gone before we pick at 12. Thank god for that pointless late season push we made season.
  16. Apparently the report was premature. Too bad. But I'm hopeful that if Kohl can get somewhere in the $500 million price range for the Bucks he would then turn around and offer something like $400 million for a new arena. I am as fair weathered a Bucks fan as there is but it would be really bad for the city to lose the Bucks. They need a new arena and it needs to be a part of a bigger project to help improve Milwaukee's inadequate facilities.
  17. One good draft, a couple solid international signings, a trade, and development of current players in the system and rankings can change dramatically. How long do we have to wait for this "one good draft"? There's a draft every year yet we never seem to get those high ceiling players that we need. And there's an international signing period every year too. Who is the last international free agent that has turned into a high end prospect for us? We signed Wily Peralta 7 years ago. And Alcides Escobar 9 years ago. Anyone else? Arcia may turn into something but he's a long ways away. That's the whole problem with this system. While all we need is one good draft that good draft never really seems to come. I still have hope for the 2012 class even though there's still no pitching. And in 2010 we got Nelson, Thornburg and Morris. But when is the last time we drafted a guy with #1 potential? Probably 2006 when we drafted Jeffress. That's 7 drafts without drafting one guy who profiles as a #1. And maybe even a #2 depending on how you view Odorizzi. Meanwhile in 2008 when had 6 of the top 62 picks. 4 of those guys were absolute busts and none of them remain in our system. In 2009 we had 5 of the top 73 picks. None of those guys profiles as anything more than a bench player. In 2011 we had two of the top 15 picks in a very strong draft and as each year passes it looks more and more like we blew that one too. For the record that is absolute failure in 3 drafts in 4 years, all of which we had a golden opportunity to build up the talent in the system. So yes, all we need is one good draft. But what about this front office and scouting/draft department has given you confidence that we are capable of having the one good draft, let alone two or three good drafts in a row?
  18. I didn't want to start a new thread on this but I am really getting frustrated with the Brewers' player development and I think this year's minor league rosters show a complete lack of organizational plan. Recent drafts have been pretty bad and recent personnel moves, in my opinion at least, are very head scratching. I agree with RightFieldCoder. I think the people in charge of this type of stuff are completely inept and the system will not get much better until they are replaced. Just a few examples to show what I am talking about: - Thornburg in the Milwaukee bullpen with Burgos, Hellweg and Fiers all in the Nashville rotation. I think Thornburg is the only one of those guys who even has a chance to stay in the rotation, yet instead of having him pitch every 5th day in Nashville and using someone like Fiers or Burgos or Hellweg in the bullpen it's the other way around. I'd even prefer Rob Wooten or Donovan Hand in Milwaukee's bullpen. Quit screwing with Thornburg. - I realize Josh Prince and Kentrail Davis didn't set the world on fire in Nashville last year but did they really deserve demotions? I'd rather have Davis playing everyday OF in Nashville than an MLB has been like Jeremy Hermida. And Prince should have never been move off of SS. Again, I know he doesn't profile as anything more than a bench guy but he's more valuable as a bench guy at SS than a bench guy at CF. - I don't care what position he plays but Jason Rogers should be in Nashville. Again, why the need to sign a Jeremy Hermida when you have your own drafted players that can play the position? - Why are Orlando Arcia and Yadiel Rivera on the same team? I thought it was a mistake to put Arcia in WI last year. He did ok but he's young enough that another year down there may have helped his offensive game a bit. He's our top SS prospect and now he'll be playing 2nd base at least some of the time. So in addition to continuing to improve his offense he has to learn a new position. - Speaking of new positions isn't it about time we gave a new one to Clint Coulter? At 6'3'' and all of 0 decent fist base and third base prospects why not move him now and let him get as much time at the position as possible? But if you insist on letting him catch then let him catch. Quit putting him at DH every other game. - Finally while I appreciate the confidence in David Denson I'm concerned his promotion to Wisconsin will look a lot like Clint Coulter's ill fated promotion to Wisconsin last season. Hopefully he holds his own and stays healthy but I think a trip to Helena would have been better for him. I realize this is just my opinion and there are people who will disagree with every one of the points. It just seems to me that a organization that lacks talent as much the Brewers do should be more willing to reward prospects who succeeded last year and be a little more cautious with guys who didn't.
  19. I noticed in last night's BC game that Arcia was playing second base so Rivera could play SS. I swear only the Brewers could manage a logjam at a position where they only really have 2 prospects (and I consider Rivera a borderline prospect because he's shown absolutely nothing with the bat). I understand Rivera is very good with the glove but Arcia has the higher upside and he should be the full time shortstop. If not in BC than in Wisconsin. I have issues with the placement of so many players organization wide.
  20. When have they been killed by it? Rickie Weeks is another contract that is killing us right now and the jury is still out on the Gomez extension. And while he wasn't one of our young guys the contract he gave Suppan was ridiculous given Suppan's career numbers up to that point. Plus we kind of lucked out that long term deals with McGehee and Axford never panned out despite the conversations.
  21. Duke always seem to have a ton of guys who can drill 3's too. I don't really see any quality shooters on next years MU team.
  22. Probably not too much of a surprise but Jake McCabe signed with Buffalo and will not be back next year. I have a feeling next season is going to be a LONG season with so much scoring graduating and now our (by far) #1 defenseman leaving as well. Does anyone know the likelihood of Kerdiles coming back?
  23. I think the writers/producers/whoever was in charge of the show mistakenly believed people actually wanted Ted to end up with Robin, kind of like how people wanted Ross and Rachel to end up together on friends. Accept that we didn't.
  24. Bennett just won the ACC reg season and tourney, and was a #1 seed. Why in the world would he leave a team that has arrived in the ACC for a job in a lower level conference? It would have to be ONLY about the money, and Bennett isn't like that. Like I said if he's not interested he's not interested. But Bennett has ties to the state (he played at UWGB and his dad is a coaching legend there as well as at UW, where Tony was an assistant). Yes he just had a very nice season at Virginia but he had some nice seasons at Washington St as well. That didn't stop him from leaving. Nice seasons are what get you better jobs. And while Virginia won the ACC this year they are hardly a consistent powerhouse in the conference. And don't discount the money. Williams was making something like $800,000 more than Bennett was this year so even if you paid Bennett what you paid Williams it would be a very significant raise for him. As far as the conference thing goes. I guess my opinion is that the school matters more than the conference. The Pac 12 and SEC are far inferior to the ACC in basketball but I bet all things being equal just about anyone would rather coach at Kentucky, Florida, Arizona, or UCLA than at Virginia, Wake Forrest, BC, Virginia Tech, or Miami. Everyone's opinion is different of course. But what harm would have come from asking?
  25. This comes as no surprise to me as the Brewers continue to ignore the future for the sake of the "win now" mode. I'd be ok with that.....if they were actually winning. I hated the Kyle Lohse deal as it cost us a first round pick and I didn't feel like we were a Kyle Lohse away from competing in the division. I did not really like the Matt Garza signing either as not only did it cost Nelson or Thornburg a rotation spot but it was that much less money available to spend on the draft or international free agents. I know this is like heresy but I wouldn't be opposed to the Brewers having another first half like they had last year if it gets them to move some of their older guys like Ramirez, Lohse, Estrada and KRod and opens room for guys like Thornburg and Nelson. It would also give them another much needed high-ish draft pick. The Brewers have got to hit on this upcoming #12 pick as well. There are three HS arms I really like (Aiken, Ortiz, Holmes) and I wouldn't be upset with a guy like Braxton Davidson, Jacob Gatewood or TiQuan Forbes. If they continue to settle for high floor low ceiling players I'll be furious, especially after last year's pathetic draft.
